Mark gave his life for this, River thought in remembrance as she stood at the railing of the merchant cargo ship as it approached the Docking Coast on Arid Mesa. She’d never forget how he spent the last moments of his life helping Kamille and River put the literal pieces together they needed to continue their quest. Patting her pack where the cloth book covering, book and tablet pieces safely resided, River took a deep breath. Finally, a real clue to the location of the Sol Stone. Something she had been searching for for a long time. The scholars at the Arcane Academy had been able to decipher the markings on the tablets, and everything pointed here to Arid Mesa.
River strode briskly down the gangplank, disembarking the boat with a renewed sense of hope. A broad smile spread across her face as River set foot onto the dock. One more step toward the Stone, she thought, anxious anticipation evident on her face. The trek from Maazerik Island had taken a few weeks, and now that she was here, the excitement she had been holding back caused her pulse to speed up.
River’s gaze moved along the docks looking for a raven and a half-elf woman clothed all in black with raven feathers adorning her shoulders. Kamille and Mischief should be easy enough to spot. Kamille and River had begun this trek together, and they were bound to finish it together.
River made her way to the Keg and Kettle where Kamille and she had agreed to meet when they had spoken using the Talking Heads before River had left Maazerik Island. As she approached the tavern, River turned into a small alley and moved into the shadows. Tapping the cord hanging from her belt, River said, “Kamille, it’s River. I’m here at the Keg and Kettle. What’s your time table?” She paused. “I’m so excited, Kamille. Get your ass over here,” she added, laughing with all the pent up enthusiasm she'd been holding in.

The cold air didn’t get to her anymore, but she felt it play with her hair, refreshing and exciting. She's never been to the Arid Mesa before - such barren, dangerous place, with few specimens that brought her enough interest to warrant a visit. And now, the utmost specimen finally brought her to meet that rocky, god-forsaken place. The Sol Stone. River had left her with one of the Talking heads, and it ended up being a surprisingly convenient move on her end. She noticed when River tried to communicate with her and picked it up, barely containing her excitement - finally she had the idea they were going somewhere, that this quest was finally moving forward. Keg and Kettle, if the informations were right, would be right after that turn.
"I'm on my way, River! Can't wait to meet you again! I brought someone along, and you won't believe who is it!"
She almost didn't believe it herself. Kamille put away the Talking Heads and turned to face Kalos. When the pale elf showed up at her door, she was so surprised she slammed the door at his face. After the initial shock fizzled out and they got to talk, Kalos actually opened up and asked for her help. Kamille assumed River would be surprised by his presence, since they departed on...... uneasy terms. But a lot has happened since then, and she felt she got to know Kalos enough during their journey to trust his nature. It had been a pretty great travel so far, where Kamille tried to teach him a game that involved dice and a cup they got from a sailor.
"Let's go. It must be somewhere close, I guess."

Destiny was a weird one, full of mysterious and unexpected twist. Never in a million years did the wood elf think he would be with Kamille again, on yet another journey to hunt down this mythical Sol Stone. And yet here he was, learning funny games on a boat headed towards the Arid Mesa. Just a few weeks before he had surprisingly come to Kamille's home in the search of help, a dark secret he possessed and was in need of help from a witch.
It was a rather awkward encounter, having threatened her life the first time they met. However they had managed to smooth out their differences, and in return for her help, he had agreed to help her discover the location of this stone. In truth he had no real interest in the stone, apart of him doubted it even existed, but after everything he had witnessed in the last year, who was he to offer any rebutle.
They had finally made it to the meeting spot when the woman started talking into...a head? He was still getting use to the nature of spell casters, many of their habits and techniques odd to him. They were scheduled to meet up with another, someone else hunting for the stone. In a strange way he found solace in the fact that both Kamille and River had stayed in contact after that night in the forest. If he was being honest with himself, he too was rather excited to meet the woman again, having left both of them on not so friendly circumstances.
His job here was simple, act as a body guard for the two and help them when needed. A simple enough job, but only the gods new what was in store for the trio deep beneath the forgotten desert. Following Kamille, Kalos stayed close, keeping an eye on things while they prepared to meet back up with River.

River was still smiling as she entered the Keg and Kettle, excited that Kamille was on her way. As soon as she opened the door to the tavern, the familiar smell of stale ale and freshly cooked food assailed her senses. From the looks of it, the tavern had been around many years, though it appeared to be in decent repair. The soft lights of the lanterns strewn throughout revealed an inviting setting with several tables scattered about. As it was quite early in the day, only a few patrons gathered, engrossed in their own discussions, and paying her no mind.
Glancing around, River moved over to an empty table in the corner, and took a seat situated so that she would face the tavern door. Who was this mystery companion with Kamille? River wondered as she opened her pack and took out her journal. She had made extensive notes when she was at the Academy, detailing the supposed exact location based on the deciphered tablets compared to landmarks shown on maps of the area. The ruins of the temple were nearby if these tablets were to be believed.
What if it’s all just a false lead like so many others in the past? River wondered with a sigh. If the ruins turned out to be a myth, she wasn’t sure if she would continue to pursue the Sol Stone. It had become a burdensome journey in so many ways. But as soon as that thought crossed her mind, River realized that she didn’t regret any of it. She had met some new friends along the way while also ridding the world of a few nasty cultists. And now, they might actually be on the verge of finding the Stone itself. Could it be for real?

Kamille seemed to be trying her best to keep Kalos involved and talking without boring or tiring him. After she learned his story, she clearly sympathized with the elf in a way she couldn’t before understanding where he came from. Once everything was settled, she put away her end of the talking heads and interwined her arm with his, like a proper lady, to guide him to the place.
"It's supposed to be close here, somewhere........ There! Come!"
She hurriedly pulled him into the tavern, bursting into the stabilishment with a loud bang. River was spotted in no time.
"RIVER! IT'S BEEN SO LONG!"
Kamille excitedly giggled as she dragged Kalos into the place, just releasing him to throw her arms around the other woman’s neck and pulling her into a hug.
"I can’t believe I'm seeing you again! I missed you! How you've been? Oh, let me show you who I brought along... I'm sure you remember him, but anyway.... River, this is Kalos. Kalos, me and River have started this together, and will probably end this together."
Kamille stepped to the side so River and Kalos could greet. She assumed there would be some degree of surprise involved from River's end, but seeing as Kamille was so at ease with the elf might put her at ease too, she hoped. Their first encounter was.... spiky. And she never thought she'd work side by side with someone who seemed to have the exact opposite goal than her. But then again, Kamille was good at compromisinf and looking for the middle ground.

It was still weird to be in the woman's company, exchanging small talk and acting like best friends. It had nothing to do with Kamille, in fact she was doing her best to make the situation seem more comfortable. He himself was just not use to having companions, of any kind, and to now find himself arm in arm with a witch, on the way to meet yet another "friend" was still a bit weird to the elf. He was learning how to live in this new world, how to have a life of his own.
He and Kamille had finally made their way to the place they were scheduled to meet up with River. Their trip was filled with awkward silence, random small talk and the occasionally odd glance. The awkwardness wholly came from him, as he was still learning how to interact with people. As the duo pushed through the doors, arm in arm, Kalos quickly scanned the area, reverting to his normal hunting nature. He had recently come to trust Kamille, even if only a little, and he trusted River enough to atleast not fear an ambush. But plenty of people were looking for this stone, and he could only assume if they had uncovered its location, then others would to.
Kamille was the first to react, noticing River right away and greeting her like one would a long lost friend. Kalos simply stood behind, forced an awkward smile and waived at river. The last time they had meet they were fighting off cultist who were also looking for this stone. As he watched the two women embrace, an odd sensation began to well up inside of him. Was this what having friends felt like? Apart of it scarred the hell out of him, but the other part was welcome to the idea.
"Hello River....it um, is nice to see you again. "

River hadn’t noticed them enter the tavern being preoccupied with her notes, but she sure couldn’t help but hear Kamille’s greeting. River had barely stood up to greet her when Kamille grabbed her in a big hug. “Hiya, Kamille,” she mumbled into Kamille’s shoulder. It was so good to see Kamille again. They had been through so much.
Who was this with Kamille? Kalos! How on Charon?!? River frowned, not sure how she felt about seeing the elf again. He had been troublesome during their last encounter with his intense aversion to the use of magick.
River studied Kalos who appeared to be a bit ill at ease. What had happened between Kamille and him? They looked almost chummy. Interesting. Something to ponder upon at a later time. There were more pressing matters to attend to right now.
River’s frown turned quickly into a warm smile. “Hello, Kalos. Glad to have you on board. We can use all the help we can get.” River’s attention returned to her notes. “Sit, sit. Long story short, the tablets we found lead us to a ruins a few miles out from here. Whenever you’re ready, we should get a move on. There’s no telling if the cultists are in the vicinity as well.” River spread out the map on the table to show her two companions.

Kamille knew this encounter would be tense, since all River had to go by was a few minutes of interaction with the ranger that put him on a not very favorable light. But she had seen another side of Kalos, and hoped that he had also seen another side of her as well - this could either work wonderfully or go horribly wrong, and Kamille was willing to take the chances.
"This is excelent, River!"
She sat beside River, taking a look at the map she showed her. She never came to the Arid Mesa before, but she tried giving the map a look to be not completely lost when she arrived. Mischief could always scout ahead when needed. She assumed River went to the Arcane Acaademy like they had agreed to try and solve that mystery. And while all of that happened, she had been rolling around the dust of Dragon's Craddle, squabbling over a mysterious flask on the hands of the cultists she still couldn't understand. She owed River a lot. " How do you guys want to do this? Scout ahead? I'm guessing River could do some scouting if she's willing. Mischief too, obviously. And then what? I'm assuming there will be cultists there, or some other kind of danger. This thing wouldn't stay there, unguarded, if it's the real thing. I could always provide a distraction to lure them out, if needed." Kamille was not the stealthy type, so she could certainly provide with a big enough distraction. Her pyrotechniques certainly could draw anyone's attention.
