Kamille
Gender: Female
Age: 109 (Looks like she's in her mid 20's)
Race: Half-Elf
Nationality: Crescent Island
Appearance: Unhinged beauty, like the raging sea glistening on the sunset, is not uncommon between those who share elven blood, and Kamille is unapologetic about it. She has almond shaped eyes - dark, blue eyes - inescapable as the tide, a small, straight nose and high, rosy cheeks. Kamille has smooth, fair skin, framed by black locks of hair that cascade down to her waist. She usually keeps her hair loose, letting the wind play with it without restraint. Kamille dug deep into her own perceived status as "The Witch" of the court, wearing black dresses and robes, corsets and slitted skirts, but mostly prancing around in pants, high boots and a cape of black, raven feathers around her neck. Her feathery cloak is, indeed, considered her trademark piece of clothing.
History:
The Apprentice
Kamille's father, Benethuil, was the Court Wizard back in the days, but around a decade ago, was silently "retired". The King is thankful for his life-long services and loyalty, but it became clear that he is no longer fit for the job, and the gossip runs hot: people say Benethuil had gone mad. Kamille disagrees, and usually gets quite defensive over her fragile father. They live by themselves, by the grace of His Majesty, in a small cabin near the castle, and Kamille was taken under the wings of Valatar, now Court Wizard in her father's place.
Valatar is good to her, but haven't got the talent to teach her magic, and instead treat her like a secretary - which just frustrates the young woman. Adding to that, she developed a strong rivalry with Valatar's actual apprentice, Baram. Kamille likes to read and study, but it became abundantly clear that she's not a Wizard like her father, Valatar or Baram. Despite showing talent for spellcasting at an early age, her abilities are more chaotic, and for most part she had to take the training of her abilities into her own hands. She is also known for being kinda nosy and curious. After solving the murder of a Councilmember, some people at the Court started to regard her with a bit more respect, though most still see her as just Valatar's secretary or errand girl. Some people of the Court also started to see her as a threat.
Growing up at the court, she found a good friend in Charles Sonnaught, the son of a noble family and older brother to Baram. Charles went to squire for sometime, away from home, and when he returned a couple of years later, ended up being knighted. They quickly rekindled their friendship - not only that, but Kamille ended up developing a huge, painful crush on her childhood friend, who became a handsome, charming and chilvarous knight. The gossip that runs around in the court says the young knight is also infatuated with the sorceress, but his family will probably put a stop to it.
Sometimes, Valatar trusted her with tasks that involve minor adventuring into the woods, either for collecting reagents, items or helping getting rid of minor threats. Kamille leaned hard into her perceived status as a "Witch", and what started as something to ruffle her Master's feathers became her true self. She often received ladies of the court and commoners alike to help in domestic and womanly affairs. More often than not, she charges information, and not money - a coin she learned with Benethuil to be more valuable than any gold.
The situations surrounding her leaving the Court are cloudy and tragic, as it turns out her father's illness got the better of him, and the crazed old mage tried to hurt his own daughter. Benethuil's behavior becomes more and more erratic as the years go by, until he has to be actively locked away as to not harm others. When this happens, Kamille sets out to search for a cure to his illness, seeing a glimpse of hope in the discovery of the Sol Stone. Along with many other adventurers, she sets out to find it too, taking up residence in the calm Moonveil forest, where she starts to build a name to herself as the Witch of Moonglade.
The Witch of Moonglade
For years, Kamille quickly builds her reputation and experiences an immense peak on her power once she's away from the Court. She sells potions, spells and information, quickly assembling a network of spies and informants she comes to call Crows and Sparrows. It is by this time she takes under her wings three assassins that were headed for the gallows and grants them another opportunity at life and at erasing all their crimes from before. Thus, the Black Quills were born.
For most of the time, while she searches for the Sol Stone and a cure for her father, she does what Benethuil taught her to do to survive: snoop and spy and gather information, for information is power. Although the persona of the Witch of Moonglade and the Mother Raven became her identity, she starts to wonder what her own father's motives were before his sickness took his mind.
Worst of all, some happenings shed a different light over her memories, which makes her question her father's intentions from the beginning...
Despite of that, she is quick to make friends and connections, and rejoice at the opportunity to create attachments. Kamille joins the Mage's guild, the Golden Consortium and a lesser known society. She thrives and increases in power, adopts a young, wild girl named Astrid as her grandaughter, as welll as fall head over heels for the Lord of Ghouls, Bellighul.
The Death of the Gods
The discovery that the Gods had been dead for centuries hit Kamille hard, but not the way she expected...
Benethuil hated the Gods, and his beliefs have seeped into Kamille's childhood without her realizing it. Not only that, but Kamille actually uncovered some unsettling facts about her father that makes her believe he'd been faking his illness from the start. From manipulations that led to the death of innocents, to other that framed her childhood in an entirely different way, it looks like Benethuil is not at all the person she thought he was...
Adding to that, Kamille's power has been behaving a bit more wildly than usual.
The dissappearance of the Lord of Ghouls also took a toll on her usual positive and bright take on life in general, painting it with strokes of distrust and cynism for the first time.
