Items and Skills
Some play-by-post RP forums use an extensive system of items and statistics to determine what your character can do at pretty much any point in time. Others are completely free form, allowing you to create and use anything you want for your characters from the beginning. Our item system is midway between these two extremes. There aren't any statistics or complex math you have to worry about -- you're trusted to play out your capabilities reasonably in the narrative -- but most special things your character can do have to be purchased. You have a lot of freedom in interpreting and even modifying the things you've bought for your character. Two characters with the exact same capabilities can and will be entirely different in virtually limitless ways. It's a really exciting system that avoids some of the problems of the two extremes while being just plain fun to use!
We believe that you should own your adventures. One of the best parts about RPing in a fantasy setting is that your character gets so many opportunities to experience different things, struggle through unbelievable conflicts, and grow as a person. When that growth involves becoming stronger or better at something, our item system allows you to literally own those advantages. You can use the Solars, our gold system, you earned from RPing your character's tribulations to give them tangible payoff.
Solars are an out-of-character currency that you earn by making in-character posts or contributing to certain special forums. This is the currency you'll use to buy and sell most items, so the more posts you make, the richer you'll be! You receive 5 Solars for every in-character post you make. Special events and Guided Role-Plays also award large amounts of Solars. There are a lot of ways for you to get this currency because we want you playing around with all the cool stuff our item system has to offer!
Everything your character would use on site will be obtained from a shop or an event, as either a purchasable item or as an event reward. Because everything is pre-made and purchased there is no application process and you do not need to wait for anything to get checked or approved! Once you have purchased something it can be added to your inventory sheet and used in future topics! Purchasing things are just as simple, all you really need to do is fill out a purchase template and post a topic in the sales counter! Once a member of staff has filled your purchase the items are all yours!
While the rules and mechanics of the items are listed in the description of each item, the overall look and flavor of the item or spell can be changed to fit your own desire. If you want to change the color, shape or design, that is all freely customizable as long as the item is still the same thing that was purchased. While you earn Solars for posting on the account tied to your character, that money or even items can be transferred between any character you own or can be gifted to other players!
Skill System
Everything your character can do when it comes to combat or in character abilities is dictated by a list of skills. It is assumed that everyone can do basic things like swing a sword or throw a punch, however these skills function as a tier list, determining how good someone is at a specific skill. These skills also determine what items you can purchase and what shops you can buy things from. For example, in order to buy a sword from the Blade shop you must have Novice in Blades. The skill levels and what they allow are listed below.
Novice Skills
A novice in a specific skill is someone who has begun to train in that skill, learning the basics needed to train and start to hone their abilities. Being a novice also allows you to purchase items from the shop related to your skills.
Master Skills
A master has trained enough to master the basics, learning tips and tricks when it comes to their specific trade. They are set apart from others, able to masterfully wield or use their skills. You can now purchase enchantments and master abilities from the shop related to this skill.
Exalted Skills
Exalted characters have gone above and beyond, unlocking god like potential when it comes to their chosen field. You have learned all there is to know and have even begun to create your own techniques, redefining what it means to be a master. Certain levels of prestige classes will require Exalted members to obtain them.
Skill Types
Each of our Skills can be divided into three different types: Martial, Arcane, and Utility. These classifications determine the base function of a skill and has wider reaching affects when it comes to the different types of classes or abilities you have access to.
Martial | Arcane | Utility |
Unarmed | Earth Domain | Shield |
Blade | Sky Domain | Armor |
Blunt | Sea Domain | Stealth |
