It had been a week since Nieven had met and been swept off his feet by the cleric of Lunala, Elvira Elendil. He had been trying to keep himself busy and not letting the whole magical night get him too giddy. But by the gods, it was that hard he would be in meetings and important business when the memory of her lovely face would hit his mind randomly. That night had cemented into his mind and he couldn’t stop thinking about it. He was enamored with the cleric more than he’d like to admit and it drove him crazy. So crazy that he had to talk to the most wise and intelligent person he knew, himself. The sun elf thought about what to do and paced around his inn room for an hour before finally slumping against the wall and tucking his head into his knees in frustration.
It was then when the second most wise and intelligent person, the sylvan elf, gave him an annoyed meow, his most loyal companion, Sir Amadeus Taftworth Dantel the Fourth. He sat on the other side of the room on his bed simply sitting and glaring at the young man in irritation.
“Yes, Sir Amadeus Taftworth Dantel the Fourth I am aware that I am just wallowing in my frustration right now. I just don’t know what to do, I like her but don’t want to mess this up at all. How am I supposed to follow up that most wondrous night once more without looking like a complete novice?”.
The snow-colored feline simply gave him a single amused meow and it was thanks to that he had an idea.
“Yes you’re right a picnic date at the Sunshine Glade would be the right amount of wondrous and magical to follow that up. I’ll write a letter right away and you can deliver it to her, my loyal friend”.
Amadeus simply rolled in his bed facing away from Nieven while the young man began writing at once.
The letter read,
“Dear Elvira Elendil
I hope this letter finds you well and safe. Thank you once again for that good time that night moon dancer. Because you took the time to show me a great time on your times I believe it is only fair to show you the same. I am gracing you with my presence once more and inviting you for another most amazing time. Meet me at the Sunshine Glade around noon around an area surrounded by hearts. You’ll know where I’ll be by my incredible presence alone. I hope to see you there I am delighted about the event and you can consider it a date
Sincerely yours,
Nieven Castiel Oakenthorn”
And then towards the bottom was a doodle of three red hearts next to his signature. He tied it with a red ribbon, placed it in Sir Amadeus’s tiny blue jacket pocket, and sent him off to find the cleric hoping to hear his invitation was accepted. Eventually, after some time the manul taftbird finds Elvira and lands directly in front of her giving her a bemused meow and motioning towards his jacket.

Elvira was nose deep in her chores. Her robes were hung up to dry and the fire was cooking some meats for the travel. As she watched the fire, she was carefully sharpening her scimitar. The holy light of the blade seems to flash and glow with each grind and swipe of the tool. That was when an unfamiliar sound makes her jump to her feet.
She hadn’t heard the strange creature approaching, which is why that meow was alarming. Seeing the signs of a domesticated animal, however, she relaxed and laughed. When the feline gestured to the envelope with a red ribbon wrapped around it, she gave them a few rubs of the head and took the note.
She had barely finished the note when she jumped with glee. After folding and retying the note, she placed it into the bag next to her before making another note in return.
“Dear Nieven Oakenthorne,
May the Moon light our way as we travel to meet and the Sun warm our hearts as we embrace one another. I struggle to hide my excitement to feel your touch, for the fire between us the other night burned high. I will see you in my finest threads, dear. A rarity reserved for those few whom I deem worthy.
With a racing heart, Elvira Elendil”
After lining it with a drawing of intertwining vines creating a heart, she folded the note and placed it in the pocked of the feline. A few chin scratches for the animal later, she begins to pack her things for the trip.

Sir Amadeus was very pleased with Elvira’s head rubs, approving of her immediately worthy of his airheaded master’s attention. He simply sat watching the young woman react to Nieven’s letter unimpressed and bored, wanting to return to a nice warm bed already. Sir Amadeus was relieved after being given Elvira’s letter to deliver back to his master; he bid the lady a small bow before leaving a pampered and posh little fellow much like Nieven.
It didn’t take long for the winged messenger to return to Nieven who had stayed in the tavern room renting it out for the next few days while he waited for a response. He had been pacing around the room with a mix of anxiousness and self-confidence that would at times combat each other within him. It wasn’t until he saw his furry friend return that those emotions would evaporate leaving him with utter pride and excitement as he read the letter. His heart melted at reading Elvira’s letter jumping for joy rolling in his bed and kicking his feet with utter glee. After that, he simply relaxed and straightened up apologizing to his beloved pet for such an undignified demonstration. Now Nieven was stuck with the hardest decision of all, what to wear to this most special occasion? Well, anything he wore was bound to be perfect considering he’d be in it but at the same time, he wanted to be extra perfect for their date. After all, it was his turn to woo Elvira after the lovely night under the stars that she gave him. He took his time picking his outfit and spent the next couple of days lurking every possible high-end tailor and fashion boutique until he found the perfect combination to create the perfect outfit. The day was set and it was time to depart and meet up. He bid Amadeus goodbye at their tavern room and rubbed his chin before promising him plenty of treats when he returned.
The Sylvan elf walked around with pride and confidence as he tucked a special gift he planned to give to her. He made his way through the wide valley with a certain pep in his step as he walked. Nieven was singing his heart out with delight spinning around while he made his way. Eventually, after some time he found the meeting spot he’d scouted out a few days before. He immediately got to work and gathered leaves around it forming a large heart. He placed down an expensive red picnic blanket and waited for his date to arrive. He was antsy as he stood a mix of excitement and nervousness.

Elvira had also been hunting down the best tailors and threads. It was clear she was nervous each time she entered a shop, never having really had herself tailored for in the past. After multiple days of trying, she was ready to give up when it caught her eye, the perfect clothing for a man like Nieven. It was - in all honesty - not her usual style, though she had always wished to try new things. Might as well now, right?
The day of the date was warm, though a strong, cool breeze blew in from Moonglade. Clouds dotted the skies, giving the occasional break from the beating Spring sun.
When she arrived, her pale lavender skin seemed to glow in the sun. Her shoulderless top revealed the markings on her arm went through her chest and collarbone, ending just below the neck. The vine-embroidered pants accentuated her figure as the flowy and see-through shawl threw in an elegance, only adding on to the display she was clearly putting on for him, as evidenced by the smile she donned. Devious, yet elegant itself. As she walked over, the moon and star accessories in her hair glinted as the gemstones dangling from them refracted the light onto the ground, leaving little rainbows at her feet as she walked to greet the man.
The second she had arrived, she beelined her way to him and wrapped him in a warm, cozy hug. She hadn’t even noticed anything else, merely caught up in Nieven’s eyes and features. She noted his clothing and gently held his cheeks, looking up into his eyes.
“I see you missed me, Nieven. You are just… Gods. You are stunning. You bought this outfit to impress me? Heh… I suppose I did the same.”
That was when she noticed his display. A soft gasp as she saw the heart, something that she thought little of through the letter. Dining in this display though, it was a lot more to her. “You did this all for me? I-I’m amazed. I thought you wouldn’t be swept off of your feet so soon, hmm?” She gets closer to him, placing her hand on the underside of his chin and smiling teasingly. “Let’s just hope the dinner is equally as delightful as you are, Nieven. I can hardly wait to see what you have prepared.”
She finally releases the tension by placing a gentle kiss on his cheek and smiling warmly. It immediately became obvious she had fronted to get close to him as she now looks skightly nervous. “Now we are even after you stole that kiss from me before leaving, jerk! Come on, I’m hungry. Finding these clothes while traveling as a Cleric of Lunala was exhausting. ‘Oh this is too indecent for you,’ ‘oh you don’t have money for that,’ ‘how about this wayyyy more expensive item,’ bleh! Gods, I can’t wait to just-…” she paused, nearly freezing. “Nevermind that. Lead the way, Nieven.”

Nieven stood for a few more moments alone, his eyes darting all around him for any signs of Elvira. For a moment there he thought his great travel instructions perhaps were not understood by the moon maiden. However that worry was dashed as he saw her, his jaw dropped in wonder as he set eyes on her.
He felt her warm embrace blushing and was barely able to speak too stunned by her beauty to make sensible words.
“Uhhhhhhh erm uh um yes indeed”, he quickly shook his head not wanting to embarrass himself, and faked a cough returning to his calm and suave demeanor. He wrapped his hands around and hugged her back looking down to her and meeting her gaze.
“It’s nice to see you again Miss Elvira Elendil. I see our time apart has only made you grow hungry for my amazing presence. It seems you are the one who missed me the most by the way you're squeezing me”, he chuckles trying not to look too desperate and seem cool.
“Thank you I see you are a woman of taste and of course dear, I am the best dressed Charon after all. What would I look like showing up to our date looking my most average”.
He looks at her again, getting butterflies in his stomach, his voice going softer for a moment, “You look beautiful today Elvira, and I see that the moon dancer isn’t just brilliant under the moon’s light but equally as so during the sun’s embrace".
He lets go of her and smiles motioning towards their day’s setup. A basket was in the middle of the red blanket surrounded by assorted leaves of many colors.
“Yes indeed this is to be expected of the greatest lover of Charon, Elvira you showed me a night I won’t ever forget the last time we met. It’s my turn to show you the same under my terms”, he blushes for a moment as he says, “I wasn’t swept off my feet it was you who was swept off your feet by my excellence”.
His blush returns as she touches his chin and smiles at him his heart flutters with warmth not used to such touch from someone, “Um, yes it will be the most perfect dinner that Charon has ever seen just wait and see dear”.
It's when she kisses him on the cheek that his face goes crimson red and his ears go burning hot he fidgets with his fingers completely overtaken with emotion to say a word.
“I-erm oh-oh my”, he manages to stutter out, not able to speak confidently, cheeks flushed red. It's only after a moment that he recovers and rests his chin on his right hand, “Oh dear it seems someone has missed me since we last left off. Calm down, I have prepared the most wonderful lunch for us to partake in. I appreciate all the effort you went through for this date. It's truly a delight”.
“But yes”, he remarks, going over to Elvira and leading her to her spot on the blanket across from him. He then walks over to his spot and smiles, opening his wooden basket ready to dazzle and impress Elvira with his charm. He had spent the past few days learning how to prepare the best meals to impress her. Usually, he’d have his butler Theodore make food for him or simply order from the most expensive restaurant but this time was different. This time he put his efforts into making something for someone else. He just hoped that it was equally as tasty as intended, pulling out two elegant-looking plates and passing one to Elvira. He then opened the basket once more and placed some homemade fresh spring rolls onto both of their plates to start their picnic date off right.

Elvira smiles as she takes the plate and spring roll. With a playful suspicion, she inspects the spring roll and gives him a look. In a teasing voice, she speaks as she raises the roll to her lips. “You prepared this? I didn’t think the great Nieven Oakenthorn would prepare his own food!” She gives a dramatic pause, playing up fear. “Oh my! Should I fear for my life? Will I get food poisoning? Is my date trying to poison me?!?”
With a laugh she bites into the roll. The crunchy outer layer gave way quickly, releasing the flavor of the juicy vegetables beneath. The steam that flowed from the roll simply added to the experience. The cleric’s heart thumped as she began to realize just how much effort he had placed into this dinner and display. She smiled and blushed, her voice softening just as much as her expression did. “T-Thank you Nieven, it’s incredible. You did very well.” Her hand fiddles with something in her pocket as she looks away, the blush on her face growing.
She coughs softly, more to clear her thoughts than her throat. “Nieven…” she starts to speak but, after a moment’s pause, she shakes her head and smiles once more. “What’s next, my sweet chef? I’m rather excited now, you’ve surprised me with round one, let’s see if you keep it up!”

Before he digs into his scrumptious food he waits for Elvira to try it first, excited to see what she thinks of it.
He clasps his hands together in excitement, “Yes indeed I did”, he blushes for a moment, “Well I just figured I would give it a solid attempt considering I wanted this day to be as special as I’m expected to make it. I cannot have my great reputation tarnished as Charon’s greatest lover now can I?”, he chuckles amused at his charm.
He quickly gets a little nervous and waves his hands, “No of course not I would never poison anyone ever, such a thing is preposterous. As for my perfect cooking ability I guess we shall see won’t we”.
Nieven stares at Elvira as she digs into the spring roll and twiddles his thumbs ready to hear her review. He was hoping she would like it, why wouldn’t she? After all, it was a Crescent Isles signature dish and it was incredibly delicious…but maybe something more catered to her cultural palate or a dish related to their current environment would’ve suited the picnic better he worried. The man was a perfectionist striving to be the best in everything he did making this the perfect date was no exception, especially with the stakes on the line. For what if he failed? She’d think him some sort of lame boring noble, he would not have that at all.
It was once again her delicate voice that took him away from his inner world, he smiled widely as he heard her praise. He looks away trying to play up his self-assurance, “Why of course it was excellent that is to be expected of the great Nieven Castiel Oakenthorn. Anything less than that would be a false advertisement and you could ask my business associates "I do no such thing”.
Before he could continue on his self-aggrandizing speech he stopped hearing her signal for the next course, “Why of course I will that was just the beginning of our day let’s get into the next stage”, he then reached into his basket and placed down traditional barbeque pork-filled baked buns. These were an old family recipe of his butler that he simply begged him to learn. It took days and a lot of work but he was sure such a tasty dish would win Elvira’s heart.

Elvira smiles at his charm. Despite the front he put up, he was actually really good at being a charming host and Elvira could see it. In truth, she could see past a lot of his walls. Regardless, there were still mysteries that had yet to be uncovered about this man. It’s what she enjoyed about him. Well, one of the many things.
Upon being handed the baked buns, she tilted her head curiously. It was strange to her to have merely bread as an entree, but she shrugged and smiled. The presentation was impeccable, a perfectly browned bun with seeds and seasonings on top. It looked like something straight out of a cookbook. When she bit in, the pork surprised her. It was perfectly cooked, causing juices to drip down her chin. She quickly grabbed a napkin and covered her mouth, a massive embarrassed blush covering her face.
One of the more obvious facts about Elvira was her upbringing. Having come from the temple, it had been hammered into her to be “lady-like,” whether that be through lectures, hands-on lessons, or strict punishments. This left her with a lifelong fear of looking… off.
This simple incident caused her to shiver with fear, worrying she had just done something to turn him away. It became extraordinarily obvious that she was worried, horrified even. She kept her face hidden as she spoke.
“I-I… wow. It’s… It’s extremely good. I-I-I love it. I… um… I need a second, though. I’m sorry… Just...”
Before she could finish her thought, she quickly stood up and stepped over to a bush, beginning to hiss at herself. “Why… why am I like this… why?!? I’m ruining a perfect date… Gods, I already ruined it… I might as well just… gah!”
At this point, she had tears streaming down her face. The frustration boiled over and she growled softly at herself as she sat down behind the bush, trying to hide her powerful and negative emotions from Nieven.

A chuckle would come out of Nieven as he looked on at the lovely moon maiden in front of him eating the efforts of his work. Even with some pork juice coming from her lips she still looked as amazing as ever. Something that coming from his sworn brothers would completely upset and disgust him simply made Elvira all the more endearing and cute.
Although for a moment the sylvan elf was carefree and excited to see the fair lady in front of him receiving his food well he did notice something was a little off. She shivered and began stumbling over her words, before he could give her any flirtatious or teasing words she got up and walked away towards a bush. Quickly alarms begin ringing in his head, “Oh no did she not like it? Is she allergic to an ingredient gosh I should have checked with her about that before oh no. Does she simply not like me anymore?”, all these thoughts raced through his head as he stood up and walked towards her.
He managed to hear her talking to herself and crying. His heart was filled with so much emotion but he pushed his insecurities aside and knew it was time for him to step up.
Nieven looked on as Elvira began crying and stood in front of her crouching down and touching her hands and smiling, “Hey now my dear nothing’s wrong okay? You are doing amazing right now and I am enjoying my time greatly with you. You are not ruining this date whatsoever, you have been nothing but the best picnic guest I’ve ever had in my life and that's a step competition I tell you that includes Sir Amadeus Tanworth Dantel IV, Theodore, and my mother. Something as silly as juice dripping off your mouth doesn’t ruin anything for me it makes you all the cuter my dear. You have such grace and passion I find incredibly wonderful and I can't help but want to see more of it”, he pauses and takes her hands pulling her up and looking into her eyes pausing for a moment before saying, “I like you Elvira”.

Elvira’s moment of self hatred and wallowing was quickly dismantled by the touch of her date’s strong and affectionate grasping of her hands. After a quick and shaky release of a breath that she didn’t know was held, she looks away from him with an embarrassed expression. With her hands in his, she blushed heavily and listened to his words with intent, occasionally sneaking in a peek every now and then…
…and each time she felt her heart flutter. The way his hair fell over his shoulders, the way his eyes peered deep into her soul, and the way he smiled. Everything about him cane together to create a symphony of a man, each “instrument” taking a solo in her eyes and playing their own virtuoso.
The climax of this piece, however, featured his final words.
“I like you, Elvira.”
Her mouth fell agape for a moment as she whipped back to meet his gaze, tears forming anew. Yet, these tears were different in that they were joyous. She seemed to decompress, a new happiness flowing through her. “I’m… I’m sorry. I was raised to be ‘ladylike’ as much as I could. The priests and priestesses would say ‘no fine gentleman wants a swine, lest he be a farmer.’ Those priests were released but… the words… they stick with me.”
She looks down and shakes her head, clearing her thoughts. She shyly looks up and runs her hands up his sides, resting them on his cheeks. “But… I like you too, Nieven. I want to be with you. These nights have been the best of my life and… well… I can’t wait to spend more with you.”
It was then that the first drop fell.
Then another…
Then another…
No sooner than the clouds had snuck in had a rainstorm developed. Elvira, for a moment, seemed annoyed. Instead of lashing out, however, she laughs. A hearty laugh. One that lasts longer than one might typically expect. “Nieven, I think this is a sign. A sign that I must stop seeking perfection from myself, for I already have you. Nieven… I want to be with you. I admit it, you swept me off my feet that fateful night. I want you to do it again, and again, and again.”
She looks up to the sky and brushes back her soaked hair. Looking back down, she gets close to him once more. “I want to dance with you once more, Nieven. To the hells with the band, let us make nature’s symphony our music. What say you, Nieven?”

A flush of embarrassment would overcome Nieven’s face and a large red blush would appear on his cheeks as soon as he confessed.
“GODS DID I JUST CONFESS FIRST? WHAT TYPE OF NOBLE AM I?”, he would scream to himself in his mind while still looking at Elvira. Before he could walk down that mental blow to his ego he instead focused on the lady in front of him.
“I was taught and raised to act as a tool of my noble family so I understand what that means Elvira. I enjoy following such rules and conditions placed on me by the upper levels of society. I like being polite and respectful and the morals and ethics that may seem a little silly to you are what drive me to make the decisions I do. I am a product created by those who gave me my life. I say that all to say I don’t expect that from others, I don’t expect that from you. I like you because you are Elvira. I don't care what some priestess or priests do and so shouldn’t you. You are ladylike in so many different ways and exude a level of grace and passion that no member of the church could teach”.
“I want to be with you Elvira too and can’t wait to spend time with you as well”, he said hugging her.
Before he could turn around and continue with their planned date his plans were ruined by the one thing he thought he could count on. He listened to Elvira's words, taking them and trying to keep himself calm.
“I would like to dance with you to Elvira in a heartbeat but give me a moment I cannot let this day come undone. You deserve better, you deserve perfection”, he mutters that last part.
He quickly rushes to the picnic basket taking off his jacket and placing it on top trying to salvage any of the rest of the food he could muster.
“NO”, he yells, “NO NO NO NO NO THIS CAN’T BE”, his hair and clothes are drenched under the rain. He pushes his hair to the side and rolls up his sleeve standing up and raising his hands to the sky. He places magic within the air and tries to clear up the weather (1) tries to return things to perfect…But it doesn’t change anything. The rain continues to pour and Nieven continues to try; he puts more and more magic and energy into the spell but it doesn’t work. But that doesn’t dissuade him from trying again and again and again as he begins to get drained from the futile battle against the weather It doesn’t matter to him though what matters is that he can make today perfect.

Elvira was fully lost in his words and his eyes. The care, the compassion, the way he spoke to her like she was the only person in the world, and the way he managed to turn her emotions around completely. To her, this moment was perfect. She wanted this moment to stay.
“Nieven… I-“
Unfortunately, the rain upset Nieven more than expected. As he darted over, she spoke to herself. “What the hells was that, elf? You were just about to confess? No, no, no… that’s how you ruin this. Ease up or-“
The train of thought was derailed by the angered and worried shouts of her date attempting to fight off the storm. It was oddly cute, a man having fought for her to have a perfect day. Unfortunately, he couldn’t get the storm to change. In fact, it seemed to rage on a bit harder to simply spite the man. This made her giggle softly.
That was when she did something that not even she would expect.
Her voice began to cut through the white noise of the storm’s winds and rain, a serene melody filling out the empty opening. As she sang, she slowly approached Nieven. By the end of the first chorus, she had wrapped her arms around the man’s neck, her eyes gazing up longingly into his. She rocks slowly side-to-side with him, soaking up the passion of the moment.
“Once there was one sea that grew into two Wonders of nature surround me and you And in the beginning, when land touched the sea The Earth was created around you and me
Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
And in the beginning, when land touched the sea The Earth was created around you and me And we keep on spinning from now on and on Tumbling and turning till all becomes one Becomes one
The trees in the forest, they cover my head They act like a shelter from what lies ahead And I'm left to wonder how it began The story of life, creation of men
Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
And in the beginning, when land touched the sea The Earth was created around you and me We keep on spinning from now on and on Tumbling and turning till all becomes one
And in the beginning, when land touched the sea The Earth was created around you and me We keep on spinning from now on and on Tumbling and turning till all becomes one Becomes one”
As the song ends, her smile could have scared off the darkest of thoughts. There was only one thing on her mind right now, and that one thing was in her arms. She was close… so close. Close enough to feel the heat of his breath on her cheek, see the galaxies in his eyes, and the softness of his lips.
She couldn’t help it… it had to be said…
“Nieven… I love you.”

Frustration filled Nieven’s body as he tried and tried to stop the rain from continuing, this wasn’t right. He picked a perfect day when the weather was at its greatest, how dare the insolent clouds change his plans. It wasn’t fair he needed perfection, he needed the perfect day not just for himself but for Elvira. It was expected of him at this point so seeing the rain disrupt his plans just made him all the more upset. He didn’t strive for perfection; he simply was in his eyes perfection, the adoring clamoring of his fans all across Charon (at least in his mind), the expectations of his family, all of it was something he simply wanted to maintain. For the clouds to change such a lovely day outside and ruin his plans he just couldn’t believe it, he had someone to impress, someone he wanted to show that perfection.
“YOU FOOLS”, he screamed at the top of his lungs, “OBEY MY COMMANDS AND STOP RAINING”, in a desperate and delusional bid to have the weather change.
Suddenly before he could continue his desperate rant on how the rain should stop a voice rang that invaded his mind and soul. It was so beautiful the chaos and stress of the moment seemed to hold still for eternity. His eyes shimmered as his gaze met hers as she sang the most beautiful song he’d ever heard. Nieven was enamored, simply completely entranced by the maiden of the moon’s melody. As she finished, a feeling of calm sank deep into his heart. Maybe the day wasn’t that bad, her performance was perfect. For once the sylvan elf was left without words as he simply looked into her eyes with care and affection and heard the four words that melted his heart.
He’d heard that before from many fans and others but this was different, this felt real, it felt genuine and unlike before where he’d flippantly respond with, “I know” or “I love me too”, Nieven said, “I love you too, Elvira”.
