A sylvan elf sat at the bar counter playing with his hair as he looked focused at the drinks in front of him. How was he supposed to get the attention of his peers? How was he supposed to show everyone how great he was? He knew he was incredible, beautiful, intelligent, strong, and most importantly incredibly humble but recently, no one realized that. It frustrated the man intensely, a feeling of indecency washed over him before leaving in a moment replaced by a sense of pride. Nieven would go down in the history books as the greatest noble to exist ever, he just knew it. But how was he going to start, well that in part was why he was here at the Druid’s Satchel. There was no better place in Charon to show people who you are than a tavern, after all that’s where bards sing songs about you, where people cheer your name, it was where all manner of people gather and spend time. But how was he supposed to show people who he was and how amazing he was?
He took a second to think before laughing loudly, “Of course! How could I forget? I’m rich!”, and stepping on the bar counter clearing his throat before exclaiming, “Hello, ladies, gentlemen, and people in general! I am one Nieven Oakenthorn and I’m offering one of you lucky fans of mine a free hour of drinks for me. Be careful not to trample over each other even if I know that this is the best day of your lives”, before sitting back down and waiting.

It had been hours of travelling for the lonely cleric. The healthy forests were always a welcome sight, but she grew weary as she traveled longer than usual. There had been many people to heal, even more to bury and families to console. A rough week, indeed. The sounds of A Druid's Satchel greeted her, however, welcoming her to the end of this leg of the journey. She smiled and hid her supplies nearby before entering.
The moment she enters, she is greeted by the sound of a rather handsome Sylvan elf offering an hour of drinks to his... fans? "Oh," she thought, "one of these guys."
It could have been the weariness of the travel, the allure of his eyes, or even just a craving for a bit of chaos, but she decided to approach the man and lower her hood. Silvery hair spilled out over her shoulders as her intense blue eyes stare into his. "Mae govannen,1 Nieven. I am Elvira, a wandering cleric of Lunala." She looks around to see the eyes of the patrons staring judgmentally at the man and fires a look back to them. They go back to their drinks and meals, not biting on his offer. "It seems you've made quite the impression here, heldo.2 I suppose I'll take you up on your offer... unless you have someone else in mind, that is?" She looks up to him with a knowing and teasing smirk on her face.
1. Mae govannen - "Well met," a formal greeting 2. Heldo - "Friend"

Nieven turned his back facing the barkeep with a sly satisfied smirk on his face as he awaited his adoring fans. The fellow closed his eyes anticipating the bar to be filled with people trying to win his attention. It was then that his attention was grabbed as he heard the sound of someone speaking to him in a slightly familiar language. He looked at the person in front of him up and down their beauty captivating his sight. So it was true his fans were the most adorable and beautiful people that existed ever, he knew it.
It took him a moment to process what she said to him trying to think back to his elvish lessons when he was younger. Her eyes as blue as the ocean distracted him for another moment before he spoke, “Why hello there Elvira Traveling Cleric of Lunala. the pleasure is all yours I’m sure. After all you have won the blessed chance to speak to me and that is truly lucky. I'm certain that everyone here is jealous of you now", he says before turning around, "But please rest assured all I love you all equally...kind of...not really”.
He then motions for Elvira to sit, “Please my friend have a seat and prepare yourself to have the most magical evening of your entire life”, he then sits himself at the bar and looks into Elvira’s eyes trying to play everything off as normal and cool.

Elvira laughs. "You seem confident in yourself, no? Perhaps overconfident, even. One must not forget that it is a rare treat to see a cleric like myself outside of our work. Most of those who meet me are wounded, dying, or have already passed on." She quickly eyes him up and down, giving a soft smirk. "You seem to be no exception, Nieven. I can sense wounds on you. Emotional wounds that changed you."
The bartender hands her a plate of food, revealing that she had been here many times in her travels. "A Scribe's Daiquiri, please." The man nods and scoots off, beginning to make her drink. As she turns back to him, there's a strange smile on her face. Her voice drops down to a hush. "You seem like the kind of man that would be good with their lovers should you choose to let your walls down, dear. It's a shame, you are rather handsome."
With that, she turns and focuses on the cocktail that the bartender placed in front of her. An elegant looking drink, looking even more so in the gentle hands of the cleric. After a sip, she look to him out of the corner of her eye and gives that same charismatic smirk she gave upon approaching him. "As for that magical evening? I do wonder if you might even be able to handle me."

The sylvan elf simply laughs harder in response, very amused by Elvira’s comments, “Yes I think confidence is an important trait, my friend, however, I’d say I'm perfectly confident. Not too overly, not too underly, just the perfect amount of confidence for a person”.
He throws his hands up as a joke, “Woah there my dear I am not wounded, dying, or dead”, he motions to his body, “I’m alive and thriving. Count yourself lucky as well it’s a rare sight to see such a handsome and beautiful man like myself”, he liked the cleric already she was a little odd but that was alright everyone in Charon he’d come across seemed out of the ordinary.
He’s taken aback at her emotional wounds comment, and the thought crosses his mind, “How does she know?”, before he chuckles, “Not all my dear I’ve always been this perfect since birth and nothing has affected that”.
He looks over to the bartender as he gives the lady her drink, handing him a large amount of solars as thanks.
Nieven slyly smiles at the strange lady, “Yes I am indeed the best lover ever Elvira I’m starting to suspect you’re some sort of mind reader, my dear. As for walls I’m not sure what you’re talking about I have no walls I’m an open book”, he forces a charming chuckle. For whatever reason the cleric truly was reading him like a book and he found it both alluring and perplexing”.
The sylvan elf catches the attention of the waiter ordering his favorite of drinks, “May I get a glass of Moondrop Mead please”, and watches as the fellow goes to work.
Focusing back his attention on the lady next to him he smiles as he speaks, “Oh I am sure I’ll be more than able to, the real question here is can you handle someone as great as me dear”

She seemed to know the effect her words had on him. A bit of softness fills her expression as she reaches out and touches his hand. As she does so, a soft, warm glint flashes in her eye. "I apologize, my charismatic friend. I see so much pain in my line of work that I forget it is sometimes none of my business. There is a familiarity to your look, however. One that makes me wonder if we are similar, if not the same, in our personal pains."
There was a bit of a pause before she suddenly shifted tones. The smile turns into a devilish smirk as that peculiar glint in her eye flashes once more. "As for you being the best lover, I think I would like to be the judge of that." Another pause as she finishes her drink. "Tell me, does the great Nieven Oakenthorn like to dance, or is he perhaps not as confident as he would like us to think?"
Before he could answer, she motions for him to follow. The tavern had hired an orchestra for the night which, as she approached the floor nearby, began to play the "Ghost Waltz." She began to dance on her own, eyeing the Sylvan elf as she twirled and glided on her feet. It became clear that she had been dancing for a long time. Her hand reached out to take Nievens, beckoning him from across the room.

Nieven’s eyes widen, a little surprised at the woman’s forwardness, “Oh my”, he chuckles softly as he looks up and matches her gaze. Her eyes were stunning and filled with a familiar warmth he hadn’t felt in his life almost at all. He couldn’t help but be distracted by them as she spoke. He takes a moment to let it go through his ears before responding trying to recover from his stupor, “It is alright my friend I will say I feel the same about you feeling familiar. I’m not a cleric like you but I definitely can see we have things in common like our incredible beauty”, he chuckles trying to return to his normal dashing bravado.
For whatever reason this woman had disarmed him the only time Nieven had ever been disarmed was when he was a kid sparring with his brothers and those memories were not pleasant unlike this.
The sylvan elf puts back on his smooth charming smile and smirks at the woman, “Oh. Would you be my dear?”, it was then that his drink arrived placed in front of him but he paid it no mind too focused on the verbal dance between him and Elvira.
The man’s smile turned to a grin as he heard her invitation to dance, “Why yes he does, and of course not there is nothing in this entire world that could make a man such as me feel unconfident”.
Before he could get up from his seat she’d already beat him to it. He hopped off his chair trying to act as calm and composed as ever while inside he was a little shocked. Usually, it was he who swept people off their feet but in this case, it was Elvira who was setting the pace and that threw the man off drastically. Usually people were too afraid too approach the man becomes of his dashing good looks and radiance but that wasn't the case this time.
He obviously could tell that the cleric was skilled in the art of dance by seeing her motions in front of him. He stepped forward and felt his hand getting taken by Elvira as she pulled him. If anyone would have seen the great Nieven Oakenthorn at that moment they’d be able to tell that his cheeks were of the deepest shade of red as he followed Elvira getting lead by her hand.

The dance was a spectacle for the patrons of the bar. The swaying their bodies, the flowing of their clothing, the cleric’s twirling. It all came together to put on a stunning show that even the orchestra conductor looked over at. As they flowed across the dancefloor, Elvira’s smirk only grew. Her eyes glistened in the moody light of the chandeliers, gazing into Nieven’s as his hands held her. There was something else there, just behind those blue windows into her soul.
By the end of the song, the two were breathing heavier. Elvira’s heart raced, thumping loudly in her ears. She stared up at the man, hands still in place from the dance. The right hand moves to his chest as she gave her charismatic smile, this time with such a warmth that it seemed to light up the room. Through her heavy breaths, she spoke. “So, you were not lying through your teeth when you said you danced! In truth, this only makes me wonder more about whether you lied about being the ‘greatest lover’ in Charon. I suppose I will just have to see after what you say is set to be the ‘most magical night of my life!’ Perhaps a magical night might lead us outdoors amongst the magic of the stars? I leave the decision to you, as you were the man who promised such an experience”
She giggles slightly, giving a smile and a blush.

With elegance and grace, that was the way that Nieven moved as he danced alongside Elvira. Each movement was controlled and refined, his footwork was exactly as he had been taught as a child. The Sylvan elf prided himself on his dancing ability, it being one of the things his lovely mother praised him for while growing up. A far example of his adopted brothers whose brash and weird movements could hardly be qualified as dancing. He found Elvira to be an excellent dance partner even if her style was different it was equally as enchanting. Well not enchanting as his he quickly reminded himself trying to regain his mental footing. Her movements were passionate and flowy making him pick up his pace a little. He stared into her eyes his only focus at the moment as the music played and the people looked on in wonder. For as odd as this was he couldn’t say that he disliked it that was sure.
As they finished and he held her hands a thought crossed his mind, “This is the first time I’ve held hands with someone else besides family isn’t it”, the thought made him extremely nervous as his ears became warm.
He quickly recovered although a scarlet color flowed through his cheeks as the cleric touched his chest. As much as the man oozed confidence and bliss, he was used to being in charge. He was the humble idol that the general populace adored (at least in his mind) someone whose brilliance left so many people in awe it caused them to keep their distance. However, for once someone was getting close to the sun and able to handle his greatness without being awestruck.
He takes a deep breath attempting to recover and calm himself after their intense battle of rhythm and step.
He playfully responds with a sly smirk on his face as he speaks, “But of course, the great Nieven Castiel Oakenthorn never tells a lie ever”, his eyes glimmer, “That means every statement I make is true dear as for being the greatest lover in Charon that is also true”.
He ponders whether or night to go outside amongst the stars looking around at the patrons of the bar all speaking amongst themselves, “Why I’d love to my dear after all what is a magical night without the stars shining above us?”.

It was a glorious night, one that matched the theme of Nieven’s “Most Magical Experience!” The stars dotted the sky, shining and twinkling brighter than ever. The few clouds that crossed the sky looked like the flowing manes of celestial horses, racing across space and time. Shooting stars danced and raced across the skies, seemingly inspired by their earlier waltz.
“A fitting night. Lunala graces us. The beauty of this night nearly matches that of your own,” she says, spinning around and wrapping her arms around his hips. Her eyes seemed to glow in the night, just as her smile warmed up the coolness of the breezy air. “You have given me a good time, Nieven Oakenthorn. Let’s make it great.”
Her hand grasps his, fingers intertwined with a confident and caring grasp. She leads him into the woods. Deep into the woods.
Once they were at a small clearing, Elvira began to unpack her bag and set up camp. After starting a fire and setting up a hammock, she looks up with a teasing smile and places a hand on his chest once more. “Have you ever set up a camp before, pretty boy? You don’t seem the type. Come, sit next to me by the fire. I promise you’ll have a good time.”

Before he left the Druid’s Satchel he turned back and gave them a most humble bow announcing his departure loudly. Nieven then turned forward and walked outside with Elvira beside him he looked up at the sky just as magical as always. He was used to seeing the ray of brilliant shine in the sky spending his formative years on a pirate galleon. When he wasn’t stealing the bed sheets of his adopted brothers before he slept he liked to look up at the sky and just wonder. It was those nights that made him feel a little small, thinking about all the infinite possibilities, the infinite stars above him. Each with their own story and name that shone even among the night sky. It inspired him each time he looked up at it and reminded him that he was going to reach that same brilliance and wonder someday,
The man blushed a little hearing Elvira’s words although true and often hearing them, it felt different coming from her. She wrapped her arms around his hips and sent him into another mental trip. Wasn’t he supposed to be the one wooing her with his greatness? He thought for a moment before chuckling, “Thank you dear I’m glad you have equally as good taste as you do skill at dancing. And of course, this night can only get greater with my continued presence here”, he held her hands following her once again with the same scarlet color that appeared before springing itself on his cheeks again.
He did get a little nervous as they arrived at a clearing, normally he wasn’t familiar with spending time in the great outdoors. He’d often spend his nights up at the Dancer’s Den or some type of tavern or hotel but tonight felt magical. He stood by awkwardly looking at the moon cleric curiously, he wanted to help her set up but didn’t even know how to. So Nieven did what he did best and that was sit still and look pretty.
“I’ve never set up a camp in my life. Usually, during my time at sea, we’d rely on my brother’s fire magic to light something up. However this is far more exciting and magical”, he said walking towards her and sitting next to her his heart beating quickly with each step.
His nerves started to overtake his mind as he sat next to her trying to look cool and unfazed, “So my dear moon dancer, what have you thought of the night so far? I'm sure that I've been practically perfect in every but is there anything that the night is missing?"

Moon dancer…
Gods, did that young cleric blush in the deepest red she could possibly go with her pale lavender cheeks. She looked back to Nieven with a shocked expression. With just a few simple words, she was officially swept off of her feet. Somehow, she half-composes herself and looks back to him. “Well, I… I suppose the only thing would be to get to know the man behind the dance, hmm? The inverse would go for you, I assume, so I will start.”
“My full name is Elvira Elendil, which translates to ‘The Seeker of Truth, and the Lover of the Stars.’ I live by my name as much as I can. As I have told you, I am a cleric of Lunala who wanders Charon looking for those who need me most. What you don’t know is that I carry a celestial being with me. The first of my family was born of the bond between Lunala herself and a celestial being. I also carry with me a harp-lute. Though I may not be the best, I tend to enjoy passing the time with a song. I originally wanted to be a composer but… well…”
She weighs her words for a moment. “My parents were assassinated when I was at the age of 10. I became a cleric to do my best to stop other children from receiving that same news that I did. It’s… it’s tough at times. Recently, I found myself wishing I had someone who I could come home to so that the bleakness of a scarred land such as Charon might not eat away at my spirit. It’s silly, I know, but my past attempts with lovers were… well, they were good in the moment. I… I have no clue what happened. One day they just… disappeared.”
She quickly straightened up, realizing she had gone off the script that she had laid out in her head. “My apologies, my burdens are not yours to bear. Please, tell me about yourself and, if you wish, ask any questions you have for me.”

Nerves continued to overcome the young former noble as he waited for Elvira to react to his words. Gosh, he hoped she liked the nickname and thought it was sweet…Wait, why was he having these odd doubts? After all, he was Nieven Oakenthorn and everything he did was perfect..wasn’t it? He was pretty anxious still as he looked into the dreamy eyes of the cleric next to him.
His voice was soft and gentle this time around as he spoke, “Of course after all now that I’ve seen you’re worthy of my time and attention I would like to know you better”.
He then idly listens to the woman speak, his eyes staring back at her entranced by her voice letting the words fall into his ears. It truly appeared that the person beside him was almost as wondrous as he was.
“Well nice to formally meet you Elvira Elendil, that’s a name I’m sure I won’t ever forget. So you have the blood of celestial inside of you? That explains quite a lot, to be honest dear, after all, what else would explain that out-of-this-world charm of yours? It was almost as if the moon kissed you and blessed thee with its beauty. Oh so you’re some sort of musician are you?”, he says cheerily remembering one of his adopted brothers for a moment before focusing back on the conversation.
He takes a moment to think about Elvira’s tragic history wanting to say the right words in response he moves his hand over to hers and holds it tight as he peers into her eyes.
“I am sorry to hear that what happened was not fair whatsoever, you are quite strong enough to be able to recover from such a traumatizing incident. The fact that you’ve chosen a life to better this world amongst the darkness that surrounds it means so much. I can relate to that feeling a lot, to be honest, and sympathize. I’m also sorry to hear about your past lovers, truly you’ve had a rough time. But on the upside, I’m here and I promise that I’m never going to vanish. After all, a star as bright as mine will never be extinguished".
He continues to hold her hand and uses his other simple motion to calm down, “It’s alright don’t fret just because it’s not my burden doesn’t make it any less important. I am here to listen as much as I speak, and if that means just being a marvelous presence then that’s okay too”.
“As for questions I have none, you have explained everything so well and I don’t want to pry and make you uncomfortable. Tell me whatever you’d like without fear of being too much because trust me dear it’s fine".
He then shrugs his shoulders on the topic of himself trying not to be insensitive even if a part of him wants nothing more than to babble on about his glory, “Although my story is not as tragic and painful it is very epic and I’ll tell you anyway. My full name is Nieven Castiel Oakenthorn I am the third born son of noble House Oakenthorn. I was raised like any other noble brought up in luxury and wealth. I can’t say it was a horrible childhood but it wasn’t the best either. I was raised by the mansion’s servants and ill mother instead of my father. My father considered me some sort of cosmic accident, some sort of mistake on the part of the gods. He shunned me and ignored me all my life, placing my two older twin brothers on center stage. Even when I was kidnapped and taken hostage by a group of pirates playing pretend as some sort of sailor, he didn’t care. Surprisingly enough though it was those same band of miscreants that served me more of a family than they ever did. As rambunctious and crude as they were, they were my brothers and sisters in arms. Ah, I’d even say that those years at sea serving as one of the vice-commanders were some of my best. I even had a bounty out for my head, you know, 160000 solars, although a little too low for my liking”.
His voice lowers in sadness, “But all good things come to an end eventually and those times have passed too early. I returned to my family expecting a hero’s welcome instead I came back to my father forgetting my name and thinking me a deadman. Instead of a warm and proud welcome he rebuked and insulted my very existence. I was so furious with him that I simply knocked him on the head and left the life of nobility with a dream of making it back to nobility on my hard work”.

The moment his hand grasped hers and he stared into her eyes, she melted. It was obvious, too. Her entire body relaxed as she gazed into his black and green eyes, staring deep into his soul. She could feel the metaphorical fire growing between the two as they sat next to the literal fire.
With every word he had spoke, she seemed to hang on to. His story fascinated her. In fact, many things about him fascinated her. His eyes, his clothing, his hair…
…his heart.
Only the gods could know how much she adored him at this point, but she wished that she could tell him. She was just… tired. Scared, even. Tired of the life alone, tired of chasing after people who never cared or didn’t turn out to be who she thought.
Scared that things would never work out.
The stories he told, though. They were wondrous. Even that of him striking his father and leaving to make a life for himself, she found that to be a thrilling yet noble cause. By the end of the story, her eyes had become full of sparkles, lit up with excitement at the thought of knowing this man, and even more at the thought of another date. In fact, she secretly prayed to Lunala for a few more meetings with Nieven.
That was when she surprised herself by leaning in and laying her head on his shoulder. The moment her cheek made contact with his clothing, her heart raced a mile a minute. “So it seems our burdens are rather similar, indeed. Well, I… I’m here for you, Nieven. I’ve had an incredible night. I would love to have another night, should you wish.”
She looked up to him with a warm, soft smile and hope in her eyes.

There was a different air around Nieven as he finished telling his past a slight wash of melancholy and pain came over him as he thought of all the people that he cared about. The majority of them were most likely dead and the others rebuked his existence itself. He’d lost everything that he knew at home, everything that made him feel good. For as much as he prided himself on his greatness and amazingness he was in a lot of ways truly alone. Why was he being so open and honest with someone he just met? He thought it strange. Usually, he was more than happy to reveal his greatness but this felt different this time. This felt deeper and more meaningful. He was sharing his life story in such an intimate way but it wasn’t regretful. Elvira had proven herself to be able to lower down walls that he honestly didn’t think were there. He spaced out for a moment deep in his thoughts when he was returned to the moment by a warmth that spread throughout his body. He looked over and noticed that Elvira had her head on his shoulder, a small blush that was now the usual with her returned to his face as he looked into her eyes. A building warmth was spreading from his cheeks to his chest he could feel his breathing intensify as he listened to her intently responding, “Thank you my dear I’m happy that we have both been able to learn about each other and bear our tragic but epic histories”.
He met her wondrous gaze and lowered his voice, being as gentle and soft-spoken as he could, “I’m glad to hear that I have completed my original proposal of an amazing night as is expected from someone as great as me. I would wish for another night of grandeur with you Elvira, this has been ever so enjoyable I’ll say. You know moon dancer, it’s strange but I feel a connection with you that I haven't felt with others before. I enjoyed your company tonight and would like to get to know you further”.
He holds her hands while keeping the same level of intimate eye contact as he does so.
