There's a time in most every young child's life whereupon hearing the tales of brave and powerful adventurers they crave the idea of such a life. The marvel at the recognition and fame enjoyed by such luminaries. They gasp in awe of the incredible talent and training needed to achieve such feats of martial prowess. They sigh in wanderlust at the thought of traveling the world, visiting a new city each week and taking in all this world has to offer. In time, however, the somewhat dimmer reality of life manifests itself in the minds of such daydreamers, who eventually realize most of the glitz and glamour of the adventuring life they heard tell of was conjectured by folks who have little to no actual experience with the subject. Such was the case with Sylvari, who looked with incredulous irritation at a massive boulder that was blocking a trade lane in King's Valley. You've got to be kidding me. How many godsdamned rocks are going to keep appearing in this area? Adventuring is up to about twenty percent mining at this point. With a heavy sigh beyond her years, Sylvari nonetheless dutifully walked forward toward the obstacle, hammer in hand, aware of the real consequences for common folks if such a stone was not dealt with. Quest Name: That's a nice boulder
Participants: Two or more
Location: Ashlands, Dragon's Cradle or Zeinav Desert
Post Requirements: 5 post per person, 200 words per post
Reward: +1 Renown
Description: The recent eruption at Mt. Drakolt has caused hundreds of massive, flaming rocks to soar across the eastern coast of Charon. The primary roads and countryside around the Ashlands, Dragon's Cradle and Zeinav have all been littered with the giant rocks. They block travel and trade routes, as well as disrupt the local wildlife population. Some have landed in local farms, destroying important crops for the winter, and some have even landed on unsuspecting homes or wagons. Adventurers are needed to help rid the east of these giant stones, some still extremely hot from their time inside the volcano. How you get rid of them is entirely up to you, you can move them to a better suited area, or break them up into tiny, more manageable pieces. It does not matter how you dispose of the boulders, as long as they are removed.

Nieven had finished his business at King’s Valley having a tea party with some orc fellows and dwarf going over the most classiest of table talk. After which he bid them adieu and left towards the main path seeking to rest his weary head on an inn's bed. He was frankly exhausted from the day although he did enjoy just speaking with such like-minded individuals it did take a lot of his precious energy. He was about a couple of minutes into his long winding walk when he noticed a very large boulder in the middle of his path.
“Oh no, what is this?”, he exclaimed walking in front of it and examining its contents, “Why no this can’t do at all. What manner of hooligan simply leaves a giant boulder in the middle of the road? Why it has to be the most scamperous of goons, as a gentleman of honor I cannot let this transgression happen without fixing it”.
He then held his lance with his right hand about to bring it forward with all his strength when he noticed a very lovely-looking female knight on the other side of the boulder.
He lowers his weapon and exclaims, “Why hello there miss, it appears you are also one filled with honor such as myself. Can you believe this? I mean just rude and uncouth? What is this world coming to if you simply can't even walk through the forest at night?”.

Sylvari's disappointment that she couldn't simply summon her servants to make quick work of the boulder on her own was tempered with her curiosity at this newcomer. His words, though undoubtedly close to where Sylvari's own heart was on the matter, flowery and flagrant though they were, did not seem to match his fine appearance, at least in her estimation.
Embroidered clothing, fine jewelry, practiced speech, a custom cape: this man is assuredly a noble. I've never known a noble to care for such mundane things as impediments to travel, but then, I haven't met many nobles in the first place. I need to temper my expectations, as the world seems to delight in subverting them.
Sylvari raised a gauntleted hand and gave a polite smile in greeting to the newcomer. "I must concur, my lord. It is the reason I have set myself against this, though I would certainly not turn away assistance in this endeavor. Forgive me, my lord, where are my manners? Sylvari Dawnsage, a most distinct pleasure to make your acquaintance."
Sylvari hoped this noble would not harp on propriety as she bowed, meticulously as Romarii had taught her. Curtsies were needlessly complicated while one was clad in armor.

Nieven’s smile increased slightly approving of the fair lady’s response but trying to play it cool, “Ah yes it is great to see someone of the same mind and sensible attuide such as yourself. I find your resolve to help the common man to be quite admirable and I’d be more than delighted to work with you to take care of this dastardly roadblock at once”.
He returned Sylvari’s bow with one of his as he held his right arm over his shoulder courtesy of Sylvan Elf tradition as he did so before rising back to a normal standing stance.
He then looks her right in the eye and says, “It is an absolute pleasure to make your acquaintance Lady Sylvari Dawnsage, the great and radiant one that you’re speaking to right now, is none other than I, Nieven Oakenthorn, former third son of the Oakenthorn Family".
After he waited for the charming knightly to take all of his mighty glory and presence in he then asked, “Alright Lady Sylvari how should we destroy this detestable piece of rock? I have a lance on my side and the ability to change the weather to fight my whimsy”.

Sylvari wordlessly looked at her massive warhammer slung over her shoulder, conspicuously emitting a tiny snowstorm around its head as always. Does he not notice my weapon? Or perhaps he doesn't think I've the skill to wield it effectively against a stone of such size. No matter. Underestimation suits me just fine. It gives me an opportunity to see what the young noble has up his sleeve.
Sylvari put on her most winning 'damsel in distress' visage as she looked back to Nieven while batting her eyelashes. "I must say, my lord, if you could assist me in this manner, I would be ever so grateful. Unfortunately, I may have the heart for this sort of work, but I suspect your arm may be more suited to it."
A blatant lie, but Sylvari's oath did not prohibit momentary dishonesty in the service of a greater good. She was keen to see Nieven's capabilities and to determine if he was a possible threat. She had seen no indication of ill will as of yet form the young noble, but Romarii's warnings and her own nasty experiences had burned the naivety from her mind of believing everyone to be who they seemed.

Nieven puffed up his chest and placed the most dashing smile he could as he saw Sylvari bat her lashes at him and asked her his help, he couldn't help but feel a great motivation as he heard her plea.
He bowed and said, “Why of course, it would be my absolute pleasure to assist you in this matter. I am not very well accustomed to this type of work, I left most of the tasks like this to my butler Ericard but alas he is not here. I shall have to show you my great skill and arm".
He then stepped forward facing the rock and glanced over at Sylvari, “I shall perform my strongest technique yet to finish this quickly”, he then raised his hand to the air and whistled, closing his eyes and feeling the air around him. He sent out magic into the sky and summoned rain and gusts towards them.
He then steps back holding his lance with two arms as he thrust forward driving it into the giant boulder’s center as it is now covered with rain hoping that’d at least weaken it slightly.
He impales it into the rock and causes a large piece of its center to break off. He sweats and wipes his brow, chuckling, “This’ll take a little but rest assured this atrocious rock will be out of the way, you have my word as Nieven Oakenthorn”.

Sylvari was pleasantly surprised to see the noble pack an admirable punch into the boulder with his shoulder-charged lance. She also noted with interest the swelling of arcana within him as called forth a light rain shower to fill in the gaps her made in the rock [Chaos Touched], in an effort to break up the internal sediment. She remembered, perhaps a moment too late, that she was playing the part of the hapless battle maiden and covered her head with her shield, as daintily as one might lift such a mighty defense.
She enjoyed the sudden rain shower and felt a small inclination of guilt worm its way into her heart, watching the man break up the boulder on his own. Now I've gone and done it. I can't very well help him now, or else I ruin my façade. Maybe just a nudge to make it easier. Gods above, please don't let him know the power of this spell.
Sylvari stepped forward meekly and began in as soft a voice as she could, while still being audible over the din of the lance charges. "Pardon me, my lord, but it pains my heart to see you working so, while I do nothing. If you would humor me to step back for a moment, I believe I can utilize the moisture you have so graciously provided to aid in you endeavors."
Sylvari waited for the noble to step back before she began incanting and moving her arms to invoke her spell. "Blizzard," she commanded, under her breath. Immediately, the ambient temperature took a severe dive as the rain around them turned to snowfall and the water within the cracks of the stone swelled into icicles [Sheer Cold].
As quickly as she summoned the spell, Sylvari severed the connection, confident the inclusion of the icy crystals within would make sundering the boulder an easier task. She smiled sweetly and humbly at Nieven. "Hopefully it's a bit easier for you now, lord."

Nieven pleasantly felt his smile increase as Sylvari volunteered to increase his greatness with her magical ability, “Why of course fair ladies do not fret how could as great and mighty as am be deluded into not accepting help. Why that’d be most rude and disrespectful please go ahead”, he steps back his gaze on Sylvari as he watches her cast her spell.
He was honestly amazed at her ability as suddenly his rain turned to snow and the water on the giant boulder turned to ice causing small cracks in the stone to freeze over.
He bows at Sylvari and says, “Why thank you Sylvari you’re just the kindest and fairest person I’ve met today”, he takes a moment to think before mumbling, “Well actually the second since I looked in the mirror and say myself today”.
He then walks over to the boulder again and pulls back his halberd once more focusing his energy and strength on a single point as he thrusts pushing with all his might his lance impales through the hole he’d made earlier and it goes right through the boulder now a sizable hole in the middle of the rock. He turns back and snaps his figure as almost on queue the boulder then snaps in half thanks to Sylvari’s earlier work and the boulder falls to the ground below into two still sizable pieces of rock.

A wry smile found its way onto Sylvari's face. Her expression was partly due to her happy surprise that the young noble turned out to be quite capable to the task at hand, albeit with some assistance. However, the bulk of her pleasant surprise was at the supreme confidence that Nieven felt in himself and his ability. As a person who was raised to doubt herself when measured against the standard of perfection from the time she could walk and carry a weapon, a mindset that had only been exacerbated with her recent blood curse, such natural confidence in another person was as alien to Sylvari as if her new companion was to spontaneously sprout a third eye.
Her light applause following the boulder's destruction was as natural as it was genuine, though it was directed at the source of the event, rather than the sundering itself. She was sure Nieven would see her honest intention.
"Splendidly done, my lord. Now all that remains is to remove the fragmented pieces from the roadway." Sylvari began wordlessly moving to the scattered remains of the stone, a layer of ice extending from her feet underneath her targets, to aid in their removal [Ice Bridge]. With her spell in place, she began the tedious work of moving the myriad shards off the main thoroughfare.

Nieven couldn’t help but let out a deep cackle of pride as he heard Sylvari clap for his brilliant display of strength. He bowed gracefully and with a confident smirk said, “Thank you, thank you. I know that type of greatness you don’t see every day, especially from guys who look as perfect and beautiful as I. I am truly the full package brains, and brawn, ahahahahaa”.
He walked over to Sylvari and bowed before her before rising and sleeping a rose from his coat into his hand and handed it to Sylvari.
“Here take this my dear, a token of my greatness, Lady Sylvari, that you met the great Nieven Oakenthorn, that in itself is an accomplishment”.
He then shifts his focus towards the two slightly less large rocks on the road in front of him and says, “Yes you’re quite right, fair one we do have to get rid of this entirely for a job half-done is no job done at all. No matter what that silly merman says”, he thinks back on his lazy sworn brother as he says so.
He stood back as Sylvari used her spell skillfully and made the clean-up process a whole lot easier.
“Splendid job there Sylvari”, he then rolls up his sleeves and gets to work right beside her picking up broken chunks of rock and placing them outside of the road. For all his confidence and snobbiness at the end of the day, Nieven is a dependable person who doesn’t mind getting his hands dirty for the sake of chivalry, well sometimes at least.

Sylvari smiled gently and stifled a small chuckle at the rose that Nieven presented to her. She waited until his back was turned to shake her head slightly and laugh softly at the young noble's rakish audacity. Confident indeed. Well, I shan't be the one to steal his thunder. He's earned a bit of self-satisfaction for his efforts here. Honest work ethic should be met with equal grace, as justice dictates.
Sylvari worked alongside Nieven to roll away the scattered remains of the large stone, ceaselessly moving until all the major pieces were off the roadway in neat piles on the side of the thoroughfare. She wiped her gauntleted hands together to shake them clear of any lingering debris, before bringing them to her hips and letting out a satisfied sigh.
Surveying the other half of the workspace, she saw that Nieven was still working, and decided to sit on one of the removed fragments and wait for him, rather than intercede and possibly trample on his pride. In short order, he finished the task as well, prompting Sylvari to arise from her seat and walk over.
"Well, my lord, it seems our task is completed in full. I thank most humbly for your assistance in this matter. I'm certain that you have other appointments to attend, so I shall bid you farewell. Perhaps we shall run into one another again one day soon, gods willing."

Nieven stood tall holding himself up on his lance that he impaled into the dirt wiping off the sweat from his brow from all of the hard work. Finally, it was over and this trail was left in its proper form, without having some ugly disgusting-looking rock in the middle of the way. He glanced over to Sylvari and offered her a smile of relief thankfully for her slight help, it truly made his job as a gentleman a lot easier. He breathed in and out hard trying to catch his breath although his spirit was always up to the task of helping others his dainty noble body was not and needed to relax immediately after such a task.
“Oh, where should I go next? I heard that a nearby town has a divine sweet shop and a massage parlor, why does that sound delightful?”, he says out loud blessing Sylvari with his inner monologue.
His concentration is broken as Sylvaari speaks up and bids him farewell, he bows towards her and raises a large genuine smile on his face as he speaks, “Indeed it appears I have made this road a better place, a testament to my legacy going forward. Although it was indeed I who did most of the heavy lifting today I can’t help but thank you as well Lady Sylvari after all if not for your magic this task would’ve taken a lot longer than it did. I hope to see you again another day if indeed the gods permit it after all it was nice talking to someone of the same excellent manners as I”, he then waves her farewell before turning the other way intending to get some sweets and relaxation after such a long hard day's work.
