The moon hung high in the sky as Adam made his way down a well traveled dirt path. A small smile was plastered on the half-elf's face as he gazed upon the wonders that was the night surroundings of the Luna Valley. This was quite the opposite of what he was used to growing up in Sol City, a mixture of feelings ranging from anxiety to curiosity circled around in his stomach. The only sounds he could hear besides his footfalls and the 1dull hum emanating from his floating bag were the droning of the nearby crickets and nocturnal animals scurrying in the underbrush. The forest around him didn't seem to care that he even existed he was just a small intruder in this giant ecosystem, and he couldn't tell if that thought scared him or fascinated him. Nonetheless something was pulling him onwards and he wasn't quite sure entirely where he was going but he didn't need to see the threads of fate to know that they were guiding him somewhere, and like every other time he followed without question.
With each step the force that pulled him forward got stronger and stronger until he found himself in at the edge of a clearing, and as soon as he took a step out of the tree line and into the exposed portion he knew this was where he was meant to be tonight. He cautiously made his way to the very center of the clearing, keeping his guard up as he knew that fate sometimes had a bad sense of humor when it came to guiding him. Flowers and other wild plants littered the ground of this small hill, the smell rose up with each step causing Adam's nerves to calm with each whiff, and with his final step into the middle he felt the urge to sit and relax. Thus he did, crossing his legs over each other and pulling his hood over his light blue fluffy hair. He took a deep breath and tried to relax the spiral of emotions that were a constant inside him.
Ever since he started taking academy tasks outside of Sol City he had started to make a habit of mediating. It started off as a way to calm his nerves from the constant travel and being away from what he'd grown to know, but now it seemed to serve a different purpose. "Fate, show me why I'm here" His eyes started to glow a dull gold but before a full vision could begin a stick breaking behind him pulled his attention away. All he could see coming from the tree line seemed to be someone's thread of fate guiding them towards the clearing, he soon jumped up and shakily shouted "W-who's there?!"

Stealth had never really been Sylvari's forte, so whether it was testament to the gloom afforded by the trees in this place or the preoccupation of the half-elf she watched that she was not discovered was anyone's guess. She had come out to train, away from the city, away from the wretched temptations of dark thirst that plagued her. She felt thirsty in the daylight as well, but the waning hours of the evening evoked a special longing within her. And so, here she was, as away from civilization as she could be without becoming hopelessly lost. She was still unfamiliar with Moonglade and preferred to stick to well-traveled paths.
[Chaos Touched] Sylvari had felt the gentle thrumming of arcana flowing through his veins well before she would have noticed him through mundane means, and the discovery sent a bolt of surprise like lightning through her body, causing her to stand stock-still and watch as the stranger walked into the clearing. He walked to the very center with movements that indicated he was pulled by some unseen force, as he sat down and crossed his legs. It appeared he intended to meditate. Thirst flared within Sylvari's breast once more, an urge that would not be denied. Surely a nibble wouldn't hurt. This one doesn't seem the perceptive type. Hopefully he'll remain meditating 'til I've finished my drink and been on my way.
Immediately, upon making motion towards the man, Sylvari stepped on an old dry tree bough, splintering it loudly and causing the man to startle. Sylvari inwardly groaned: stealth had never been her forte. Well, conversation it is, then. Perhaps he'll even let me have a drink.
Still, as a precaution, she pulled her customary black and silver veil over the upper half of her face to conceal her glowing crimson eyes and wore a closed-lip smile as she approached. "My, my, what have we here? Don't you know that monsters lurk in dark, desolate places, my dear?"

Adam blinked and the thread disappeared, though a figure replaced it standing at the edge of the clearing where he was a couple moments ago. Had this person been following him why? and for how long? questions ands nerves bounced around his head as he locked eyes with the figure and he let out a small scared yelp. Well where he assumed eyes were since there was a veil covering the top half of the their face. Their smile made it look like they meant him no harm but their words shot a chill up the half-elf's spine, his whole body trembled as he froze in place. He attempted to swallow his fear but the sheer presence of this figure made the air surrounding them heavy and it weighed down his attempts to think of a plan. Then like a jolt of electricity a small amount of courage ran through Adam, he was trained in the arcane arts and godsdamn he was going to use them.
His trembling hand whipped to the small spellbook holstered at his hip, he held the pages towards him as they seemed to warp the area around them and crackled with arcane energy. The sudden outburst of energy caused the hood of his short robe to fall back to show a tanned and freckled face with an expression of trying to be brave but with hints of fear within it. "H-hey! not one more step. I-I'M NOT SCARED OF YOU!" his declaration wouldn't fool anyone he was scared of her. Despite his fear with his other hand he traced a sigil out in front of him and spoke a few incantations, 1causing the crackle of lightening to flow down his arm and build at his finger tips. However he didn't fire the spell, he hadn't actually used a spell on a living thing before and he seemed to hesitate when the thought of it sprung into his mind. His breath was heavy as he weighed shooting the spell or not until his eyes glowed a dull gold once again. The threads of fate revealed themselves, well the two threads that were present revealed themselves, and it seemed that their threads were wrapped together. He quickly wiped away the floating sigil and dismissed the energy building in his hand, fate wanted him to interact with this person "Oh, I ... I think I might be here for you, I don't know I'm not sure though." His spellbook remained open just in case fate was for once mistaken.

Though her hands were held up, high and visible, in a gesture of peace, Sylvari couldn't restrain the half-smile tugging at one corner of her mouth as they stranger trembled with obvious fear. Still, an impressive amount of arcana to bring to bear for one so green. Sylvari tried, and failed, to take all patronizing notes out of her voice as she responded to the half-elven mage.
"Easy there, Archmage. I promise I'm a better conversational partner for you than an enemy. You've piqued my interest." The arcane sigils the man had traced in the air in the evocation of his spell were waved away as quickly as they were created. At his proclamation of their meeting being intended, Sylvari broke into a grin, her lips straining to keep concealed the hungry fangs behind them. "Here for me? Most suitors would approach me directly, rather than lure me into a magical trap, but points for originality." Oh my gods, he's adorable. Is this a bit? No one can be this naturally cute.
Sylvari slowly stalked closer, keeping her hands upraised. "Well then, my little Archmage, you have me all alone. Will you tell me your name and the purpose of our meeting?"

"Archmage?" Adam gripped the spine of his spell book a little tighter, feeling a little uneasy that fate wanted him to interact with this person, but fate has a strange way of working and who was he to question it. "r-right conversational partner, um how have I piqued your interest exactly?" His body had stopped trembling at this point seeing that she had her hands up to show that she wasn't any immediate threat to him, nonetheless his heart felt like it just jump out of his throat. It just about did when the stranger's lips curled upwards into a full smile, though something was off about it but he couldn't pinpoint what exactly. what ever it was made the half-elf's nerves go on high alert for a second, instinctively he took a single step backwards.
He cocked his head in confusion at the statement following the smile, "Um, suitors? magic trap? what do you mean?" A second later his eyebrows shot up with realization along with his cheeks flushing with a dark red. "Oh! t-that wasn't meant as a romantic gesture. I apologize for the misunderstanding, but I already have my eyes set on a half-dragon I met back in Sol City." At the mention of his feelings for Ai his cheeks darken even further as he pulls the hood of his short robe over his head to hopefully help hide the very apparent blush. He took a deep breath to try and calm himself as best he could "Adam Hollyleaf is my name, and I am not told the reasons for why I am fated to meet anyone. I normally just figure that out by talking to them." As she slowly approached the most he could attempt was another step backwards "You're not going to hurt me, are you? he shakily asked

Sylvari crossed the rest of the distance to the half-elf in a graceful stride that seemed to be only a single motion, like the clearing was a covering of ice and she was perfectly balanced on its surface. She set her eyes on him and smiled gently, a bittersweet pang shooting through her heart. She was happy he had someone dear to him, but that only made her lack all the more apparent.
"Peace, dear Adam. I do not mean to snatch you away from your beloved. Nor do I wish you any harm. In truth, I just happened to be training nearby and noticed your passing." She looked down to the spellbook that Adam held, blue and yellow marking across its surface to match his outerwear. The tome was obviously well cared-for and in frequent use, further evidence the arcana Sylvari had sensed earlier was no fluke.
As Sylvari considered the man before her, a flight of whimsy settled into her mind. He can hardly become more afraid of me than he already is, yet he is standing his ground, as best as he is able. Perhaps I could show him. Perhaps he would see me.
Sylvari leaned close to Adam, hands against her mouth in the pronounced posture of a secret to be shared. "Let's talk, little magus. We can find out the reason for our fates together. I will even show you a secret if you wish." Sylvari's words exuded confidence, but a civil war raged in her mind, the need for acceptance raging against her paranoia.

Adam let out a small gasp as Sylvari quickly closed the gap between them, he fought the urge to raise his arm and gust thrust himself away. Now that she was within distance to strike at the half-elf, he braced himself for whatever was next. Though whatever he thought was going to happen, never occurred she just loomed over him with a gentle smile. His fear started to melt away into curiosity, and despite his less than stellar people skills he noticed a shift in her demeanor after mentioning Ai. He took a deep breath to attempt to get the rest of his nerves out of his system, followed by closing the covers of his spell book and returning it back to his holster.
"Right peace, and she's not my beloved ...yet. I just really like her and I think she's a wonderful person, she's got this bright laugh and she inspires me to become a great mage-" He quickly stopped himself before he started rambling even further about her, he cleared his throat and reset himself "Anyways that's besides the point, and it seems like we were both out here to get some training of sorts done, though why did you feel the need to follow me? I mean I'm just a historian from the Arcane Academy, I'm nothing too special" He cocked his head once again as he questioned the veiled figure, for once not frightened of her.
He did lean slightly away as she leaned closer to him, once she was done speaking he let out a small chuckle as he returned to his crossed legged position from before. He patted a patch of grass just ahead of him "Alright, let's talk. It's funny that most of the people I have met in the past while had been from these fate types of meetings. Though it's mostly me accidentally running into them but that's neither here nor there. Though tell me a little about yourself and do not worry I'm good at keep secrets, I even harbor a few of my own"

Sylvari let out a laugh, clear and pure as a bell ringing, as she sat next to Adam in the offered space, curling her legs to the left side of her body. "Don't sell yourself short, dear little magus. You've been thoroughly enchanting in our brief time together. Continue being as sincere and true to yourself as you have tonight, and your sweetheart won't know what hit her."
Sylvari paused as she looked at him and nodded, seemingly finding what she sought. "Please forgive my breach of etiquette, you've given me your name without a response in kind. My name is Sylvari Dawnsage, a pleasure. As for my interest... I could sense your arcane acumen and was simply curious."
Sylvari turned away to bite her lip, anxious about the possibility of revealing her nature to another. It has to be sometime; I can't live like this forever. Maybe it will be better this way than what happened with Romarii. "Now darling, promise you won't run in terror; my commitment to peace still stands." At her words, Sylvari slowly reached up to the clasp holding her veil to its position on her face and released it, the fabric falling away to reveal closed eyes.
As she slowly opened her eyes, a soft, faintly pulsing crimson glow could be seen. Sylvari had no pupils, only a pervasive red covering the entire surface of her eyes. She tried to manage a full smile, but after so long of hiding her nature, a half smile with her fangs slightly visible was all she could manage.

"I really hope you're right, It's been a little bit since I've seen her and ... well I miss her.". He gave a deep sigh, he hadn't really understood what it was like to miss someone before. Keeping people at a distance was the way he operated for the longest time and now someone was actually close enough for him to miss, it was a bittersweet feeling. He gave a small half smile "well ya know what they say, absence makes the heart grow fonder" though he questioned the next time he would see her, she was all the way in Zienav and he was here.
He smiled as he knew they were fate-bound, so he decided to focus on the here and now instead of worrying about the future. "oh right how rude of me I completely forgot to ask for you name, and it is a pleasure to meet you as well. Despite the little hiccup we had when you first left the tree line, I just wasn't expecting anyone to be following me. and I see, though again I am definitely no Archmage. I haven't even casted a spell on a living thing before, that's why I hesitated to zap you back there" He said with an expression of slight embarrassment at his lack of practical experience, he was an academic after all so he learned all his spells from books and scrolls.
Being an anxiety-ridden person himself it was easy for him to clock the rising nervousness coming from Sylvari. He nodded to her request "Don't worry I promise" He held his right hand up in a gesture of assurance. He watched with baited breath as she slowly removed the veil only to reveal her piercing red eyes. To say a chill ran up his spin at first would be an understatement, she looked like could peer into his very soul. His eyes then narrowed in recognition, remembering a passage in one of the academy logs red pupil-less eyes, no, is she what I think she is? His speculation would be further supported as he spotted the tips of two points fangs protruding from her smile. "Oh gods, you're a vampire" For a brief moment an instinctual fear rose in the half-elf but as his academic brain soon clicked into gear, he saw an opportunity in front of him. He quickly reached into his satchel and produced his trusty notepad and pen, and flipping past his notes and sketches he landed on a blank page. Titling it Sylvari Dawnsage Interview with a vampire, he smiled excitedly "ok so I have never encountered an actual flesh and blood vampire before, I've only read about you all through the academy logs and archives. So I would love to ask you some questions and take notes on your answers, are you alright with that?" Letting his excitement get the better of him he didn't wait for answer "And please do not be afraid to tell me if any of my questions are rude, so let's begin with two questions. Firstly is it true that vampires are able to live for centuries with barely aging. That seems like something that would be boring pretty quickly but who am I to say I'm only 25 and I've already got eyebags for days. Secondly how do vampires feed, I've heard a lot of different theories over the years, the most common one I've heard was the blood sucking method, but I wanted to confirm for myself that's how it's done." He looked up from his notepad and smiled with anticipation for her answer.

Well, there's a twist. 'Interview' was not a possible reaction I had thought of. Sylvari sat there, stunned briefly by the unorthodox nature of the situation, taking a pause to shake clear the lingering doubts she held and face the situation head on.
"All right, then... I have heard the same, in regards to aging. It would seem that the ravages of years do not touch my kind as easily as others."
Sylvari winced slightly, having to voice her opinion out loud. There were certain realities she was aware of but had made a conscious effort not to think about. The thought of being a monster, for centuries on end, seemed a never-ending hell for her. It was part of the reason she was so focused on fighting all the evil she could. Her foes would one day best her, and all Sylvari could hope for was that she managed to take them out as well in the process.
"Unfortunately, I can't say for certain. I was not born as such, and the length of time since the change has been... insufficient to make any definitive statements."
At the question of feeding, Sylvari's sense heightened again, feeling the individual streams of arcana flowing through Adam's body with his proximity. A line of drool appeared at the corner of her mouth, which she quickly wiped away.
"Blood is... the easiest way. Specifically, my type, I suppose you could say, requires the arcana of others to survive. I think, in theory, that means I could find a way to subsist solely on donated spell power, but I haven't been able to test that. It would certainly be less invasive for my... partners." Though Sylvari genuinely wanted to cause as little pain as possible, the thought of forgoing drinking blood sent a wave of revulsion through her body, as her dark thirst intensified.

As soon as Sylvari started her answers Adam's hand moved like lightening, he scribbled down any and all details that he thought would be interesting. In between her answers he added tiny sketches of details he spotted to add a visual competent to his notes, mostly just her pupil-less eyes and her fangs poking out from her lips. "Hm? so do you know the average lifespan of a vampire or do they just keep on living until something happens to cause death. Again I imagine that living that long would get boring after a while, but who am I to judge my mother's an elf she's going to live forever." He gave a small half shrug, trying not to think on his unknown lifespan being a half elf. He wasn't sure if he would more human or elf, and never having met his father didn't help in figuring that out.
"Oh, if you don't mind me asking. Tell me if this is rude but how did you become a vampire?" Then for a second he realized that could've been a traumatic experience for her, so he shook his head "you know what? you don't have to answer that one if you don't want to ... Let's just move onto the feeding stuff." His head shot back down to his notepad as she described the details on how her type of vampires gain nutrience, he nodded in understanding bring the tip of his pen to his chin; accidentally leaving a small mark behind. "That is fascinating, I had always believes it was the nutrience in the blood itself that vampires consisted off of, but what you're saying is that it's the arcana housed within the blood instead?" Then for a split second a curiously morbid thought entered his head, I wonder what my blood tastes like? should I ask her ... no that would be weird. Once he looked up from the pages he noticed her red eyes locked onto to, and there seemed to be a hint of thirst in within them. This caused a quick shudder, but he brushed it aside hoping she was still going to honor the peace between them. "Right moving on, So how long have you been a vampire? how different does it feel from before you were changed? what kind of abilities and disadvantages did you gain from the transformation?" As the seconds when on it was clear that Adam was shifting into his teacher/academic mode as he quickly started to hound her with even more questions. He was also still trying to ignore her hungry eyes locked onto him but ever so often a chill shot up if spin when he made eye contact.

Sylvari smiled softly and blushed slightly at the barrage of questions. For so long, everyone around her had reinforced her beliefs that the change was an unadulterated curse, yet here Adam was, eagerly scribing her answers in the moonlight as if she was the most interesting girl in the world. I understand what that girl sees in him. Adam has the ability to make everyone feel important, even a monster like me.
Sylvari cleared her throat, and her mind, to focus on the questions he posed. "I couldn't really say. I've never met another vampire, at least none that I've had a conversation with. Our interactions tend to be a little more violent. I can't abide how they prey on the weak and take joy in suffering. When I think about the idea of existing forever, at least until someone does me in..." Sylvari shuddered at the thought. "Let's just say I plan to fall in combat well before that becomes a concern."
As Adam asked about her conversion, thoughts leapt to her mind, flashing images of that day: the ritual, the device which trapped the young boy, the bloodletting of crazed cultists organized by the closest thing Sylvari had found to date to represent evil incarnate. Sylvari pressed her hand to her head, as if the memories physically pained her. I can't repress them forever. No amount of wishing will turn me back; I have to face the monster I am, or a true monster I will become. At least if I do it here and now, Adam may get some use out of it.
"It was... about four months ago," Sylvari began with shuddering breath. "I was on patrol for my Vigil, a sort of rite of passage for my people, to demonstrate our commitment to justice. I just happened upon it: a vampire puppeteering a group of cultists in a blood sacrifice. There was some sort of device in the middle of the room, with a boy restrained atop it. I killed them all, except the vampire." Sylvari gritted her teeth and flushed in anger at the memory.
"After it got away, I freed the boy, and I smashed the thing, as I saw it a device of evil. Dark red liquid flowed against the laws of nature into me, and I began to feel the symptoms in the middle of that same night..." Sylvari pressed her face into her hands before continuing. "I wanted nothing more than to devour the boy I had fought tooth and nail to save. My hunger for justice was perverted into a dark thirst for blood. Sometimes it's a dull ache I can suppress, but some times, especially at night, I feel like I'm going mad, like I'm teetering on the boundaries of my sanity..."
Sylvari abruptly closed her mouth and turned away, suddenly aware of how frightening she must be, talking of her barely maintained control. She continued in a whisper, tears gliding down the grooves of her face. "It's why I train alone outside the city. I'm... I'm afraid. I don't want to hurt anyone else..."

Adam's quizzical face shifted to one of concern as Sylvari mentions how she wants to go out "Though you want to live a fulfilling life before that happens right? I mean with all of the trouble that your vampirism has given you, it has given you something that a lot of people only have a finite amount of; time. You have an almost endless amount of time to do the things that you want to do before you go." He couldn't imagine what causes someone to think that dying in combat is their preferred way to go, he'd heard stories of heroes wanting that. Though he couldn't wrap his head around why Sylvari would want that, Until her head ended up in her hands.
He knew he had asked something touchy the moment the question left his mouth but her reaction caught him off guard. She seemed to be in physical pain from remembering the experience, Adam froze at the sight unsure of what to do. Then she began to speak, her words carried untold anguish and sorrow. So much so that the half-elf gasped at the her experience and covered his mouth with his hands in shock, though the gasp wasn't out of fear. "Oh gods ... I am truly sorry. I had a feeling asking that was going to be touchy for you, but I had no idea the suffering that you have been put through. I am not going to pretend like I understand what this is like for you but I want you to know that you truly have my sympathy. You are not a monster, just someone who is cursed with something that should've never been brought upon them. Though I do understand how it feels to be cursed. As I have my own" At this moment Adam wasn't without fear but before him he saw someone who has gone through hell and back, he knew that she was a good person and how she struggled to remain one. He brought his hand to his pocket and 1floated a handkerchief into her lap, "I don't know if this will help your training or make it harder, but do you need a drink". He then rolled up his sleeve to expose his arm and held it towards her, inviting her to take some of his blood.
He then took a heavy sigh, "now I feel like I should tell you about what I'm cursed with, it's something I've ever told my family and they think I'm crazy because. Thus it's something I keep very close to me, I haven't even told the one I've fallen for yet. Though before I do, let me ask; Sylavri, do you believe in fate?"

Sylvari looked at the handkerchief resting in her lap, unable even to process Adam's words at this point, She took it slowly, reverently, in both hands and held it close to her unbeating heart, ignoring completely the tears that continued to fall like rain that the cloth was intended for. He wants me to wipe my tears. He's concerned for my pain even as I talk about killing a child and threatening his safety.
Sylvari pushed away the tears with her gloved hand, refusing to sully the token that she had received. She looked at the exposed arm, and, though every instinct within her screamed to take the proffered blood, she mustered every ounce of willpower she had to slowly roll his sleeve back down. He had given her plenty.
She turned to look at him, having dispatched her tears, with a brighter smile than she had mustered since her change, and for the first time, her crimson eyes did not carry the dull ache of hunger but the sparkling of happiness.
"Fate like the kind that brings the kindest boy in the world to meet a mon-a girl that needed that more than anything else?" Sylvari gave an impish smile. "I'm beginning to. But truly Adam, you owe me nothing of your secrets. You've given me far too much to ever repay already..."

Adam smiled for he felt like he knew now why fate brought him to this clearing, to comfort this person who has struggled more than he could ever imagine. He was pleasantly surprised as she rolled down his sleeve, though the academic part of him was a tad bit disappointed as he wanted to know what his blood was like; but either way he respected her decision on the matter.
Bringing his arm back to his lap, he intertwined his fingers together and let out a small sigh "Sylvari, you have given me valuable data and you even poured your heart out to me with that secret. I definitely owe you one of my own and plus I'll need some practice on revealing it. Since the last time I revealed it to anyone, it didn't go super well" He shutters as a memory of his family's faces flashes in his mind, he almost considered stopping and trying to play it off as a joke. Then the sincerity of Sylvari's words pushed him further, she would understand ... she wouldn't think he's crazy. He took an even heavier sigh as he searched for the right words "The reason I asked about Fate is because I am what I like to call fate-touched, I have these visions and hallucinations that make me to see the fate of other living things ... I can see the threads that connect everything and everyone together. It's beautiful at times but most of the time it's so overwhelming, and whenever these visions happen ... It hurts, Sylvari. A pressure wracks through my skull and if the vision lasts for more than a couple seconds it feels like my head will split apart. I feel like Fate is always watching me and pulling me, making my decisions for me" His eyes dart back and forward as he can almost feel what he's describing, he knew that pressure all too well.
Tears start to well up at the corners of his eyes as his hands cup the sides of his head "I ... I don't know how or why I was given this curse and I want to know so badly why a nobody like me had the immense burden of fate thrust upon his shoulders, I felt like I was going to get eventually crushed by that weight. But a spontaneous half-dragon, pulled me from the depths of my own psyche. Though at times I can feel myself slipping back into old habits again ... Sylvari, you have no idea how loud the threads are-" Almost mirroring Sylavri just moments prior the half-elf clapped his mouth shut and his hands shot up to cover it. she surely thinks I'm crazy now he thought as he avoided eye contact and looked at the moonlit grass in front of him.
