Red had never really frequented the surface until recently, so she had a lot to discover. Living on the shores of Moonglade was all good and well, though she knew Sol city would be a great place to visit. A bustling city with inhabitants from varying cultures, a great place to learn new things.
After bidding farewell to her family's kelp farm and her community as a whole, Red headed east, swimming just below the surface of the Luna Sea. The sea elf had never been so thankful for her aquatic assets, it truly made traveling more convenient. Her webbed digits [1] allowing her to swim quickly and her gills [2] allowing her to breathe underwater. Her smooth and slick skin allowed the sea elf to cut through the waves like butter. Occasionally, Red would propel herself skyward to gracefully leap into the air before diving back in with minimal splashing. Was she showing off? Yes, definitely. But she also did this to ensure any nearby fishermen knew she was an elven individual and not some abominable sea creature to be hunted.
The venture seemed never-ending and she grew more exhausted as time went on. Luckily, she spotted some ships heading toward what looked like Sol city. Keeping a wide berth between herself and the ships, Red continues to make her way to shore while only remaining partially submerged in order to take in her environment.
When she manages to escape the waves and wakes of these ships, she finds a bit of shore that seems largely undisturbed. Red makes her way closer to land until she reaches a point in which she needs to emerge from the sea, crawling indignantly on all fours as her respiratory system kicks into gear to breathe that surface air. Normally she's a lot more elegant at emerging from sea, but alas her exhaustion prevented it.
Red slowly stumbled into a standing position, getting used to the gravity and having her feet planted firmly on the ground. A few stretches was all she needed to adjust. Now to make herself look semi presentable: Red wrings the water from her long hair and ties it messily behind her; then she proceeds to do the same to her thin and flowy dress she's wearing. It was very wet and clung audaciously to her body, but it would dry soon.
Strolling confidently toward the city centre, Red walked along the bustling streets, wondering what she would get up to first.

The sun shined high overhead as Ulmiyda walked through the bustling streets of Sol City. She’d never seen so many people, even the busiest days at the Frozen Docks could hardly compare to the traffic of the capitol. She loved how free she felt in this city, what a wonder it was to be able move without having to worry about snow. Her eyes took in many sights and sounds, peering through shop windows and eyeing up the various food stalls that offered all manner of dishes; yet there was one thing her eyes kept returning to, The Sun’s Keep, resting high up at the center of the city. The young girl turned to face her cold shadow, who had been matching her every step since they arrived. “Cervayhn! What are we doing here? Are we going to rob the royal family? Please tell me we are going to rob the royal family. Those entitled sun elves think they come from Solaria himself!” The older dark elf pulled the young girl to himself as he leaned down to talk directly into her ear. “Ulmiyda, hold your tongue. Those words could get us arrested if heard by the guards.” With a heavy sigh he rose up and started walking forward, holding the young girl's hand. “We are here looking for potential employees, apparently your father thinks I could use some help, or at the very least a vacation.” “Oh, you mean I’m getting a cult. How many members do I need to get a cult? Do I have to fill out any paperwork?” Ulmiyda asked with an excited smile. “That’s not-. Sure Ulmiyda, let’s go with that. We are looking for anyone who is fireproof enough to withstand your warmth. You don’t want to hurt those who are there to help you right? You can’t start a cult if all your members are ash.” The dreary man replied as his expression switched to a smirk. Ulmiyda looked up at him with a pout. “Of course I don’t want to hurt people, it’s not my fault so many burn so easily.” The young girl glanced down with a sad expression, clutching her retainer’s hand slightly harder. “I just want them to feel the same way that I do...” With a small smile, her vassal led her towards the city’s center. “Come on Ulmiyda, brighten up, you will be doing the evaluations after all. You don’t want to make a bad first impression.”

Along a road, a red Lizardman walked through the crowd. He was tall, his spikey reptilian head standing out among the others. Many people seemed to be avoiding him as much as possible as he walked past, not wanting to get involved with him. That was fine with him. His expression was completely blank and emotionless as he walked. The axe and dagger sheathed on his waist rattled slightly with each step. The air around him seemed oddly warmed than the rest of the street as if he was exuding heat from his scales, a slight orange glow coming from the space between each scale as if they were red rocks atop a pool of lava. He most assuredly didn't make anyone who looked at him feel welcome to approach him.
Xalmann really didn't like the city very much. He was far more used to living in the Marsh Flats, where it was far less crowded with annoying people that wouldn't stop talking to each other. He could hear people he'd barely walked past already gossiping about him, commenting on his hostile aura or his lack of shoes or shirt. Talking behind his back about his weapons that they didn't like him having here in a civilized place that he didn't belong. He didn't care what they thought of him. He just ignored them and kept walking toward the town center.

As Red neared the city centre, she began to notice a theme among the decorations in her vicinity. It seemed there was an event going on nearby so she quickened her pace toward a plaza that was more heavily decorated than anywhere else. As she took in her environment, she recalled that today was indeed a holiday, hearth day, to be precise. A day to celebrate close connections or even make new ones. Red deduced that this event celebrated the latter; it was a family friendly opportunity to meet new people, be it romantic or platonic. For someone who doesn't know many people on the surface, this was a great place to be!
There was so much to take in in this plaza, a grouping of stands selling hearth day paraphernalia, a tented area seemingly dedicated to some event related games, a bard playing wonderful music, and so much more. Not knowing where to begin, Red wanders around to take in the sights, though she didn't realize that this made her look like a lost tourist more than anything.

As they approached the city center, a look of confusion overtook Ulmiyda. The stalls of the city center had more than just food for sale. Various trinkets and small gifts adorned the tables, with many a person perusing over them. Clearly these items were more than just tourist souvenirs. Her attention was then drawn to a tent in the center of the plaza as well as the music emanating nearby. With a look of slight frustration, she turned back to Cervayhn. “You didn’t tell me we were going to a festival. I would have dressed better.” “Oh yeah today is Hearth Day, I completely forgot.” The older dark elf said with a slight smirk. “It’s a day where you celebrate those close to you or meet new people. You’ve never experienced one these festivals because it’s always too cold out this time of year.” Ulmiyda's annoyance only grew with his words. “Another thing I’ve missed out on due to that blasted cold. From now on I’m going to this festival every year.” She replied with a newfound determination. “Why do I open my mouth?” The tired vassal muttered to himself as his teasing had inadvertently landed him yearly work. “Anyway, do see anyone who interests you? Any potential employees?” Ulmiyda scanned through the crowd until she spotted a tall figure with red and teal hair. It was a race she had never seen before and that piqued her curiosity. She tugged on her retainer’s sleeve as she stared. “What is that?” she asked as she pointed through the crowd. “That’s a sea elf, they are pretty rare, you’ll probably never see one in the Pale City. They probably hate the cold as much as you do. You should introduce yourself, they'll be working for your family after all.” The man said as he pushed the young girl forward. With a slightly nervous expression, the young girl began to approach the sea elf.

The town center was even worse than Xalmann had expected. It was bustling with activity even more than usual. Stalls were selling Hearth Day foods and memorabilia all over with exciting tourists visiting the city swarming about. Couples holding hands and families enjoying themselves at stalls that offered small games. Tossing rings onto bottles, trying to fish wooden ducks from tubs of water. Annoying.
He tried to take up as little space as possible as he made his way through the now even denser crowd than before. One overexcited kid that was running around didn't pay attention to where he was going and bumped into the Lizardman, falling onto his butt in front of him. Xalmann just glared down at him in annoyance. The kid immediately started to cry and ran off again, probably back to his parents or something.
Xalmann just kept walking until he found a bit of calm in the crowd, an empty bench beneath a tree off to the side near a redheaded Sea Elf that looked lost. Hmph. Tourists.

Not quite knowing what to do with herself, Red leaned onto a sturdy looking tree that was casting a comfortable shadow over an unoccupied bench. She isn't familiar with these kinds of festivals, at least the ones held on land; things were a little different back home. At that moment, Red decided now would be a good time to engage in a little bit of people watching, just to get a good idea of what the folks around here get up to.
So far she'd spotted some couples strolling by, hand in hand, as they perused the stalls to buy each other a little token of their affection; how cute. She also noticed some families taking their children here to play the little carnival games, also pretty cute. Red didn't notice many single individuals unfortunately so she felt a little out of place.
Though after a short moment, she spots a new face in the quiet corner of the festival she's found herself in. A very tall, muscular lizard man with a set of dangerous weapons sheathed on his person. A very impressive looking individual; not someone you'd expect to see at a festival like this, but that only intrigued Red more.
Just a moment later, their eyes met and Red was suddenly dumbfounded. The man's piercing yellow eyes bore into her own and she could feel a sternness emanating from him. Despite this, the sea elf was still interested in engaging with this individual since he didn't seem to have anyone else with him and this whole event is about making connections anyway.
Keeping her gaze fixed on his, Red cracked a smile, showcasing her numerous sharp teeth. She pulled away from the trunk she was leaning on and took a step toward this mysterious stranger. The sea elf raised her hand to offer a little wave and said a quick "Hello there!" While this was happening, Red could sense a little girl in her peripheral, though she didn't know how to react right away since she was focused on the lizardman before her.

Ulmiyda pushed through the crowd the best she could at her stature. The young girl was inexperienced when it came to traffic of this size. Her nervousness started to burn away as her annoyance grew. An unaware man, too enthralled in his partner’s gaze, nearly knocked over the short girl. She grimaced as she held in her urge to set the man’s coat ablaze.
The sea elf she had taken notice of was now leaning against a tree by her lonesome. Clearly the woman had arrived alone, making her a prime target for her future cult. She eagerly picked up her pace before stopping suddenly as an epiphany ran through her mind.
How would a sea elf know anything about fire? She’d never heard of a flame existing underwater, if anything water was closer to an enemy than an ally.
Her doubts began to restrain her until another, more radical idea, entered her young mind. Maybe this sea elf was on land because she hated the sea just as much Ulmiyda hated the cold. Perhaps she too wanted to shed the shackles of her homeland.
With renewed vigor, the girl sprinted over to the sea elf who had just left her position against the tree.
“Hello! Warm out today, isn’t it?” The girl asked in an excited tone that masked her more nefarious intentions.
Her expression dropped once more as the sea elf didn’t take notice of her greeting. The elf was seemingly distracted by some other...
Is that a dragon?
All thoughts of the elf disappeared from her mind as she noticed the large lizard approaching them.
She stood there, mouth agape, as she also stared at the reptile.

There was something about prosperity and civilization that comforted Leopold. He wished he could stay longer, bask in the presence of the refined, but he simply did not have the coin to do so. Today, though, he would make the most of what he had. Ocean-blue eyes perused the sea of merchants, alight with excitement from the scents that Hearth Day brought with it. Perhaps he would find a good bar of chocolate, or a nice stick of cinnamon. They were small comforts that helped him feel more man than beast, especially when he was alone, out in the woods.
After some time, the werewolf had found what he desired, but realized that he couldn't quite afford them. And so, with a sad sigh, he went back to wandering about the city, imagining what he would do if he had the coin.
Absently, he caught sight of several people who stood out among the refined crowd. There appeared to be a noble staring at something, accompanied by what he guessed was her retainer. Then, close by, a tall reptilian man sat quietly on a bench. Leopold narrowed his eyes when he realized that the noble was staring at the man - it made his hackles rise to think that he himself might be stared at in such a way, too.
But all of a sudden, there was an elf -a sea elf, Leopold was certain- who approached the lizard man. She didn't seem to be rude. Perhaps she was even lost, as she was quite far from wherever home might be, for her.
It seemed that the noble was interested in the unusual presence of the sea elf, her short legs carrying her to the woman with frightening speed.
The scene was starting to look more and more like something in a joke, and so Leopold couldn't help but stay and watch how it would all play out. His ears were pricked forwards, despite the aloof expression on his face, and his tail swished in a nervous rhythm.

Not only did the Sea Elf come over and begin talking to him, but some little girl with a man following her around also began to stare at him with her mouth agape and a wolf that was walking on two legs was watching him from a distance. Xalmann didn't consider himself shy, but all of the sudden and unexpected attention was a bit much for him. He was trying to get away from the crowd and now he practically had his own gathering around him for some reason.
Well, he guessed the first one he should deal with was the touristy Sea Elf who was addressing him. All he'd done was make eye contact with her for a second and now she was giving him a hello and a wave as if he was some friendly looking person with a smile.
"Hello." Xalmann replied simply with a hesitant raise of his hand in the most noncommittal wave possible.
He glanced at the child that was staring at him for some reason, wondering what she could possibly want. He'd just scared some kid away just by looking at him earlier. What was this kid's deal?

There was a lot happening at once. The young dark elf seemed intrigued with both Red and this lizardman. The latter seemed nervous from all the attention and there happened to be a wolf man watching from afar. How fascinating and how quickly everyone's solitude turned into this little unlikely group.
"In the spirit of hearth day," began Red. "Let us all introduce ourselves! I'm Naru Lhúgnia, but everyone calls me Red." The sea elf turned to look at the wolf man in the distance. As soon as their eyes met, she motioned for him to get closer. "You too, sir." Once everyone had introduced themselves, she really didn't know what would they do next. Perhaps they could all grab a bite to eat or something. There were plenty of food vendors nearby.

Ulmiyda was so enamored by the lizardfolk before her that she almost didn’t register the sea elf’s words.
“Oh, my name is Ulmiyda Fro- uhh... F-Flameborne. Yeah, that’s it, Ulmiyda Flameborne.” The young girl stammered as she nearly blew her own cover in excitement. “Sorry, my thinking gets all hazy when I’m excited. It’s nice to meet you Red!” She said to the sea elf while regaining her composure. She turned to face the lizard, but paused as she noticed another oddity looming above the crowd. Is that a werewolf? A werewolf in a flipping shirt? She paused her movement, pivoting on her heels, as she rotated to face her retainer on the other side of the crowd. She eagerly pointed at the werewolf while staring at the older dark elf, a look of concern adorning her face. Her vassal glanced at the werewolf before shrugging and returning to his relaxed posture. Ulmidya him gave an annoyed grimace before turning to face the lizardfolk once more. “Umm mister dragon... There is a werewolf over there. Could you like, breath fire on him if he gets within clawing distance? You can breathe fire, right? I’m going to super upset if you can’t breathe fire.”

The nervous swish in Leopold's tail and the watchful pricking of his ears turned into a fearful one. Blue eyes stared at the lizardman in fear, the werewolf not knowing whether to speak up or to flee. The joke just turned serious, with such a threat. At the same time, though, he knew that looking weak would only make him more vulnerable. He had no friends here, and it was all too easy to be wrongfully framed for something. Nobles were unpredictable, and very dangerous, when bored.
"I... I would appreciate it, if I were not to become kindling." His voice rumbled, strained and low. Hopefully, he glanced at the lizardman, the woman who had called herself Red, the cruel child, and then at the other stranger who seemed to be her retainer. "Leopold."
A few tentative steps toward the four were made, Leopold doing his utmost to keep his body and head low, and angle his body in a way that did not cast a shadow over them all. He then gave a rather hesitant, but polite nod at Ulmiyda and her companion, not wanting to get thrown into the dungeons for some obscure violation of etiquette.

What- What was happening? This sudden gathering around him had apparently turned into some kind of meet and greet as everyone started introducing themselves. Even the Werewolf in the distance had been invited to join.
Xalmann looked at the Sea Elf as she introduced herself. Everyone called her Red? That was... nostalgic. He remembered when he'd also received the nickname "Red". It had been quite a while since he'd last seen Granth, the one that had given him that nickname. Maybe the criminal had been caught and imprisoned. Maybe he was dead. Maybe Xalmann should look into it and find out. But in the meantime, he was being swept up into a conversation he hadn't been expecting.
"Xalmann." He introduced himself simply. He wasn't good with idle conversation like everyone else appeared to be. Just his first name seemed like enough to give.
"Hmph. I can." Xalmann replied to Ulmiyda. Of course he could breathe fire. He could do a lot more than that with fire, but it would probably get him arrested if he went all out in the middle of this city. "I will not." He added sternly, glancing at the nervous Werewolf. If they did attack him, he had ways of dealing with them that didn't require fire magic.

Just seconds after everyone's introductions, there was a tense feeling in the air. Ulmiyda seemed agitated upon sharing her name and then acting strangely combative against the wolf man, Leopold. Surely, he can't be that much of an oddity? But then again, she's just a child, so ignorance is to be expected. Unfortunately, her ignorance combined with her high status could lead to some unwanted trouble. Hopefully it doesn't get to that.
But it seems it might anyway. Thankfully, Xalmann declined to set Leopold ablaze, though it still felt like something could happen within a moment's notice. Everyone looked at one another uneasily.
"It's a pleasure to meet you all," began the sea elf. "However, no one will be setting anyone or anything on fire. Understood?" Red's tone grew more serious as she rested one hand on the handle of her sheathed tidal blade[1] and lifted the other to produce a small quantity of water[2] in her palm which she then manipulated[3] to suspend itself in the air, grow into a slightly larger mass of water, before turning it into a little drop and letting it fall to the floor harmlessly. "I simply won't allow it," Red concluded as her gaze shifted from one person to the other.
Ignorant to the casual threats of violence earlier, a human makes their way into the conversation, giddy with excitement. "Hi!!" they greeted quickly. "We need just one more team of four to participate in our annual Hearth Day Relay Race (Family Edition)!! Winners get excellent prizes! Oh you must follow me at once." Their overly enthusiastic human dashed away from the group and toward a large tent nearby with what looked like the other competitors. None of the four had agreed to go, but this person kept pointing at them and declaring that the games can begin. The others in the tent cheered and beckoned the group to approach them.
