After the last quest he had gone on for Lloyd he had become a little less closed off to the man and the object of his studies. He liked the slimes he had seen before or at least thought of them as the epitome of natures battle against the effects of burgeoning society. So many wanted them dead simply to harvest their cores or fluids for various purposes and the thought of it didn't settle well with him at all. After all it was much the same as not using everything from a kill when people purely hunted for sport instead of sustenance.
As it so happened the next mission that he was given was to exfiltrate an ooze that had taken over the top floor of one of the waystation inn's in Moonglade - The Gallops Rest. Its design was pretty standard and consisted of wood and thatch with three floors to its make. It resembled a large longhouse from outside and functioned much the same as one would, as the small village that lived near the waystation used it as their meeting house and source of relaxation after a hard days work out in the fields.
It was because of the nature of what the Inn had meant to the community who lived in the area that help had been asked for with compensation in the first place. It was mid day as Tarkhan stood at the top of the hill that overlooked the Inn, its doors and windows barred on the first floor as several villagers and other traveler's had formed a perimeter of sorts around it in an attempt to keep the ooze inside contained.
Walking towards the Perimeter and the front doors the would be horse lord of a man seemed cautious to say the least. Approaching the man who seemed to be giving orders to the others, or that they went to advice for, he spoke, "I am here to solve the Slime issue? Any idea how many are inside or if anyone else was trapped?", he was very to the point as his deep resonating voice billowed out into the area.
The headman looked at him with a quizzical look as he spat at the ground first before speaking with a gruff and grating voice, "It's only one, and if anyone is in there still they are probably dead... just get rid of it so we can all go about our lives yeah? You adventuring types are nothing but bad news in peaceful places like this after all...", the dismissive tone was grating to say the least but the Wolf didn't concern itself with the opinions of Sheep after all. Moving to walk towards the entrance door he took one last look around the area to see if anyone else had been sent by Lloyd, after all he doubted he was the only one the researcher had asked to come here.

It takes no time at all for Astrid's voice to sneak through the crowd, doing a poor job of imitating the headman's voice, "YoU aDvEnTuRiN' tYpEs ArE nOtHiN' bUt BaD nEwS." The short girl in a half suit of mismatched armor pushes her way out with a huff. "Look I know me and the magic wolf ate a feast and part of that feast accidentally included bits of the furniture, but ya can get over it already. That's all been paid fer, and we'd all just be better off if you all just moved on." She's particularly sour about this subject, but then again, the half-dwarf has faced plenty enough scorn as a perceived tiny menace.
By the look on his face, the headman seems to feel like his point is proven by this gremlin child mocking his valid concerns. Perhaps they are valid, but he's not the one about to walk into the inn to deal with the ooze, the adventuring types are. Astrid crosses her arms with two clanks of her gauntlets and looks up at the man who's a good foot and a half taller than her just daring him to challenge her. He huffs contentiously and rolls his eyes, then Astrid turns to the newcomer, and her expression lights up like this tiny beam of sunshine. Without hesitation, her disproportionate metal hand reaches up to the adventurer in some effort to shake it. She follows this with an introduction.
"Mister Lloyd must've sent you too," she says cheerfully. "I'm Astrid, nice ta meet ya! Ready ta capture a slime?"

He watched as a much smaller girl-child wormed their way through the crowd and spoke with all of the piss and vinegar of an adult well beyond her perceived years. It was... Amusing to say the least as even the relatively grim and dour Tarkhan couldn't help but muster a smirk at the way she spoke to the Headsman and put him in his place. After all she was right, they had a job to do and further distractions like if they were going to be well received or not was pointless. With the Headsman out of their way now, and the entrance to the inn in sight he began walking as he spoke to the girl-child ignoring her hand shake out of the need to get moving, "Forgive my lack of courtesy but apparently we best be on our way here it seems. I suppose a spitfire like yourself must have had quite a time doing tasks for Lloyd as well?", his voice was pleasing but curt, unable to fully convey an emotion in any sense.
As he approached the door however one of the "guards" shook there head and jabbed there thumb towards the back of the building before speaking, "Nuh-uh. Go around back through the storm door... I ain't openin' this here door for no one. Not a single gods be damned person ya hear? No matter what Eustice says... Now go on get.", In that moment he had been stymie'd enough now by people whom he could break in horrible ways, causing his temper to flare for all but a moment like a flash of lightning before he took a deep breath and then nodded to the man before he continued to walk around back towards what was to be there mode of entrance it seemed.
Acknowledging the girl-child beside him he spoke again, "Its Tarkhan by the way... Are you from the Bleakfort? You seem like a Dwarf to me.", there was no malice in his voice, yet no gentleness either as he addressed her. His tribe in their exile lived near the Bleakfort itself and thus he had lots of contact with Dwarves over the years, enough to recognize their kind and even half-kin. Of course his tribe were raiders and mystics and undesirables as the Exiled Clan from the Horse-lords of King's Valley, so if she was from the Bleakfort she probably would have been distrusting of him at first glance.

It takes a few seconds to process that he's totally shunned her attempt to make friendly with the stranger, but he at least seems less irked by the situation in some way. She shrugs and drops her hand and follows after him. "I dunno if I'd describe meself as a "spitfire" per se," she says, her fingers twirling about in a thoughtful motion. "Maybe more of a...shoot lightnin' or somethin' like that." It's a harmless jest which she doesn't consider him lacking context. "I didn't have a bad time on me last job fer Lloyd, nope! Was enough fun 'cept fer gettin' stuck in the muck."
The guard at the door forces them to go around back, and she follows the quick paced man. "The guards around here just always seem like they've got a stick up their arse, if ya know what I mean." Of course Astrid says this through a giggle and loud enough for the guards to hear as they slip into the alley. He asks where she's from, and she says with so much cheer it almost comes across like another joke, "Nope! Got no idea where I'm from! Been ta Bleakfort once though. Don't remember bein' from a place that cold."
They reach the storm door and she looks at it wondering why they wouldn't guard the arguably easier to sneak into door. At this point she figures the guards care more about appearances than safety, but it doesn't bother her much. She grips the handles and swings the door open effortlessly - the tiny blonde bundle has much more strength than she appears. And just like that, she continues.
"The dwarves there weren't all that nice," Astrid says, stepping inside either without fear or with reckless abandon. It's hard to tell. "Most of the dwarves I've met are pretty supersteeshus. Don't particularly like a girl with horns walkin' around. Seems the worst with them." Inside the backside of the inn is dark, and she looks around with her eyes shifting to almost gold in hue as she takes in their surroundings.

His façade cracked as she began to joke or jest at least about his spitfire comment, something that he couldn't help in the moment as it was funny enough to jolt him from his usually dour demeanor, "Sparky then? Stuck in the muck though... that sounds less then pleasant.", he thought for a moment before adding on as she didn't irritate him yet like most people, she was also clearly young and underserving of contempt for existence yet, "I grew up in Frostgale, so my generally interaction with grime and dirt is non existent. The greatest extent was too much snow or if permafrost thawed. Maybe the occasional rockslide from the Mountains.".
Adjusting himself as he prepared to enter the storm door itself, he thought about the nature of their mission before he answered her other words, "They do... not that most don't elsewhere either. Maybe it's because of the stigma of my people or just the nature of it, but I don't usually find them pleasant in most places.", the cheer she had with the next answer she gave him was alarming given its context but at the same time perhaps that was the healthiest way to deal with it, "Memory loss then? Or traveled around too much?", it wasn't that he intended to pry too much but she was too lighthearted to be guarded against. His somewhat gruff exterior couldn't help but be somewhat more relaxed around here.
"I find your horns to be interesting at least, although I am impartial to dragons myself so perhaps that's why.... As far as the Dwarves go, they have never treated my people with respect so I don't typically view the Bleakfort positively. Dwarves as whole though are not the problem. Clearly.", he watched as she ripped the door up with little effort and he nodded ever slightly, she was clearly good enough to be an adventurer on her own despite her age that was evident to him as being young at least. It made him interested to see how she handled this and fought at least.
"When it comes time to capture the slime, I can store it in my pet pocket... Temujin could use a walk anyhow.", following her down the steps he summoned forth the aforementioned drake from the extradimensional space that he usually resided in. His blueish green scales slightly reflective as small rays of light interacted with him as they went.

"Eh, the guards are mostly fine, just don't take too well ta stress 'round here," she says. The ones in this village in particular only really have a problem if she's seen with her wolf companion, so if this guy doesn't particularly get along with guards as a whole, maybe that's why they're wary all over again. But who cares? They're here to do some good, and that's what matters.
"Frost Gale seems like a tough place ta live," she acknowledges, glancing around at some of the minor and major destruction inside the inn. She does not enjoy Frost Gale. "It's cold an' windy, and the snow sticks everywhere. Not sure I'd ever live there. Lots of dwarves live there though, so I s'pose it's possible I'm from there too. Though I remember mountains, and I remember where I grew up got cold sometimes, but it wasn't always bitin' at me nose, so it probably wasn't Frost Gale. Ma an' I didn't do a lot of travelin' around when I was a kid, so I think me not knowin' is mostly on account of I didn't ever really know, ya know?"
Growing up, she spent little time around others, and her best guess is that her mother kept her away from the world at large on account of her horns. It hadn't occurred to her that her other half could be dragon. She's not sure why that hadn't occurred to her - mostly because it seemed a bit far-fetched and outlandish to be true. Maybe it's something too idealistic and cool to fit her. But after everything she's seen, it's maybe less surprising a suggestion than she thought. After all, she does really like-
Tarkhan pulls a tiny drake from an unseen pocket, and Astrid's eyes shimmer with glee. "Oh, Avasha, it's so cute!" she squeals. Suddenly, the dark and possibly dangerous environment around them fades from her vision. All she sees is a cute, tiny drake who she would love to love on. "Temujin? That's adorable! Can I hold 'em?" She offers an arm out for the drake to clamber on her should it wish, but she entices it with a bit of jerky from her pack.

He shook his head at her words, choosing to take them as a sign of age for given time she would come to see that those in power or used by those in power were more often then not, despicable. Not that it was an ideology that he would share with her as she was far too young to buy into a movement like his anyhow. If there was a line he wouldn't cross, using children as soldiers was for sure one of them, "Maybe so.... Doesn't excuse their behavior though. Everyone deserves to not be accosted for doing the right thing...."
"It can be, but so can anywhere else. Everyone suffers in one way or another.... For those in the frozen north its usually lack of warmth or security. Those in the south lands deal with bandits and drought, those in the cities suffer from their betters and thieves alike, not that those two groups are all that different...", he caught himself as he was expressing too much of his own views upon her, "Traveling all over though... that's admirable. I expect you have seen many things in your years then? What was your favorite?", again something about her was calming to him, or at least allowed him to be softer then his usual self.
When Temujin was released however it seemed that all else was gone from Astrid's mind as she practically burst with glee and exclaimed at his small friend. Temujin was amused by her himself as he stretched out and arched his back before darting between her legs and sniffing her, smelling the jerky as the ultimate form of enticement. Starting from her left leg the tiny drake climbed up the girl in a spiral motion and happily took the jerky before attempting to find purchase on her shoulder.
A gruff sigh was all that came from Tarkhan first before he couldn't help but chuckle softly and shake his head again, "Well I suppose you can do what you like according to him at least. We are partners so what he says about himself is what goes after all.", to someone not of the tribes it might not make sense but Temujin would one day be Tarkhans steed when he was large enough and by custom that meant he was his partner and autonomous, not his property in the slightest. Not that Tarkhan would even have attempted to tell what was essentially a tiny dragon what to do.

The half-dwarf can barely contain herself as Temujin clambers up her body and sets himself on her shoulder, snacking happily on the jerky. She looks full to bursting, but she makes sure not to make any sudden motions to startle the tiny scaly beast. One hand reaches up to scratch the underside of his chin affectionately. "Look at youuu," she coos. "Yer gonna be a mighty beast one day, ain't cha? Gonna eat all the deer an' gremlins an' make meals of yer enemies." It's a small moment of absolute heaven for her.
Finally, Tarkhan's question registers in her mind, long delayed by the distraction of cuteness. "Favorite part so far?" She ponders for a long moment. "Ummmm... Well, I got meself a new da, killed a dragon, and me best friend's an-" Suddenly, she remembers what they're here for. "Oh, right, we're here ta capture this ooze!" Her face goes a bit blank for a moment. "And... we're gonna do that with... yer magic pocket fer pets?" The girl thinks she has some understanding of the situation, but in all honesty, she lost a few braincells a moment ago.
Looking around the dark interior of the tavern, she can see evidence of an ooze. Half-dissolved or entirely missing pieces of furniture. A table burned with pock marks on one end. Whatever food or organic material there might have been in here are completely gone. Is that a...bone? Avasha above, she hopes that's a ham bone.

Temujin for his part seemed to absolutely love the scritches as they came his way from Astrid, nuzzling into her hand with abandon as he chirped somewhat from the affection shown. To any outside observer it would almost seems as if Tarkhan had never pet or scratched the beast before in its life! Her words only fueled his display of affection back as Tarkhan shook his head and sighed, eyes closed for the briefest of moments as he centered himself, "Its as if I have never doted on him before... Scaly traitor.", there was a softness to the way he said it that could not be mistaken as he took one final inhale and then looked off into the tavern ahead and what havoc had been wrecked thus far, which seemingly wasn't all that much in the grand scheme of things.
"Killed a dragon? Should I be worried about Temujin there?", his tone was amused and not the least bit accusatory as he said it, knowing full well that if she harbored ill will towards dragon kind then she would have already injured the Drakeling, "Finding family is always a good thing, it seems that they allow you to be free and unfettered as well which is good. All living creatures deserve independence at times...", it seemed that he was lost in himself for a moment after he spoke whilst he began to walk through the inn and towards the back staircase that led to the upper floors.
"Yes... the pet pocket should allow us to store them safely at least. We may need to fabricate evidence of killing it though to put the villagers minds at ease.... Know any fire magic?", he could maybe burn things with lightning but fire would cause the necessary damage needed to indicate having roasted the Ooze to bits far better.

"Scaly traitor... yes, ya are!" Astrid giggles, scritching at the small drake's chin. "Ya got nothin' ta worry about. Yer not a big terror. Just a tiny one. Perfect little guy, ya are..." She collects the drake gently to set him on her shoulder. She'll take this tiny traitor as long as he'll have her.
With careful footsteps, Astrid follows after Tarkhan, keeping her eyes peeled for any danger. "No, I don't know any fire magic," she says slowly, her eyes tracing the nooks and crannies of the inn's lower floor. One foot after the other, she starts upstairs with Tarkhan. "I've got a bit of lightnin' magic if ya think that'll work?" Though she's not sure how they could use magical flames to fabricate evidence of killing it, she does have a pair of hammers that make good destructive tools. "I could smash up some furniture. Or we could grab some fire startin' stuff from the kitchens."
Her next words come in a murmur. "I'm not sure how well lightnin' would work against an ooze, so I guess it's good we're just catchin' it..." Of course, Astrid's experiences with oozes are extremely limited and mostly focused on what she knows from one particular ooze knight.
Upstairs, she hears a bit of warbled sloshing, as if someone shook a thin sheet of metal. A very ooze-y sound. As she creeps forward, something drips on the floor beside her and sizzles against the floorboards. Looking down, she sees a small green puddle eating its way through the wood at her feet. That had to come from somewhere...
And looking up, there it is. A green ooze slowly makes its way along the ceiling, leaving a trail of acidic destruction behind it. But now it has a tiny snack. It's Astrid. Astrid is the would-be snack. Seeing it detach itself from the ceiling, aiming to land right on her, Astrid blitzes away with magic, catching Temujin when he nearly tumbles from her shoulder. "I got ya, buddy. There's our goop, Tarkhan!"

He couldn't help but shake his head at the two of them as he had all but lost his companion to Astrid at this point. At least he was happy, that was good enough for Tarkhan in the moment, even though he still thought that Temujin was a scaly little traitor.
"That's a shame, some scorch marks or heavy enough burns and we could see we cooked it essentially. Lightning magic might have to do it, it just might take us a little longer.... I am glad that you also have no intent to hurt these creatures, they don't deserve the fear and resentment they receive...", Nodding to her talking about smashing up furniture he spoke with a monotone, "That might work in the interim."
He thought about her statement of effectiveness of lightning versus an ooze before he spoke, "I think they are mostly liquid but I am also not sure if it works directly.... but that doesn't mean it isn't worth trying if there is no way to capture it.", he was pragmatic at least, as in the end sacrificing more innocent lives was just as bad as doing nothing if the situation did become out of hand.
Hearing the Shout from Astrid as the Ooze dropped from the ceiling he reacted in kind, as he dove forward with lightning coursing over his flesh and being, as he activated the lightning armor spell. In an attempt to charge into the Ooze he was met with a buoyancy and then stiffness before being rebounded backwards with twice the force he used, careening into a table and smashing it to bits. Struggling to stand he coughed up some blood as he looked disoriented for a moment, "What in the name of Avasha was that? it was like I hit something soft and then suddenly it hardened.... Melee might not be the best option here Astrid.", it wasn't that he sounded panic but his cadence was exact and controlled as if he was trying to rely his information concisely. As far as if the lighting itself had any effect on the Ooze there was a slight dancing of crackling energy along its body but otherwise it seemed unperturbed.
Lightning Armor - Lightning begins to course around your body, slightly illuminating your form in crackling energy. This armor will shock anyone who touches you while it is own, numbing the body part that it struck. The armor will remain for three post, protecting the user from anyone who comes into melee range. If someone has a limb shocked, that limb will go limp for the next post.
Author's Note: I dont mind if you use stuff from after wards. It was my fault anyways!

"Well, it don't look like yer lightnin' did much either!" Astrid says, standing straight again. It looks like the ooze begins to wobble like a gelatin dessert again and creeps its way toward the two of them. This is a problem, especially considering she's never actually fought an ooze before. But maybe that's not necessary!
Astrid quickly digs into her pouch and fishes out another bit of jerky. "Oi, come here, ya big pile o' lubber," she calls, cautiously trying to reach out and offer it the tasty treat. In her experience, oozes like to eat. It's like their primary instinctual drive, if they even have that. The weird thing about oozes is that they don't have brains, and their appetites are insatiable. Given that it's terrorizing a tavern, that's probably exactly why it slipped in here in the first place.
With each step, the ooze's form pulses, vibrating in some attempt to be intimidating. But it's just a little guy. Astrid doesn't get too close, staying far enough back to fling her silvered battle hammer if need be. "It's alright, we're just tryna get ya back out ta the wilds," she says softly. Astrid tosses the jerky at the ooze, and it lands against its surface with a tiny wet slap before sinking below the surface and dissolving.
"There, see? Come on... Let Tarkhan scoop ya up or else yer gonna get splattered, and no one wants ta clean yer goop off the walls."
Whether or not the ooze can actually understand her is something left to be determined. It inches toward her.

He couldn't help but sigh and shake his head at the mention that his lightning had done nothing, which was suffice it to say, upsetting at the very least. It was his big move at the moment after all, so it being effectively rendered pointless meant he was at a lost for what he could do next. Watching Astrid it was interesting to say the least as she had gone about a different method altogether of approaching the situation then he would have thought.
"You sure that's the right idea Astrid?.... I'll trust you but be careful."
The offering seem to be accepted or at least he couldn't tell if it had become more or less hostile. Following the lead that Astrid had set and capitalizing on her words he spoke as he reached into his bag and produced some of Temujin's dried meat treats, placing one on the ground in front of him and throwing another gently into the ooze itself as he watched it dissolve, "Come here little guy, just like Astrid said, we have more food where that came from. Just gotta come to me and ill get you setup real nice and comfy alright?", he looked to Astrid while he spoke as if asking the girl child if he had done what he was supposed to with following her approach.
The warbling slowly moving Ooze approached him with an obvious trepidation as it came towards the food he had left on the ground. Throwing another piece closer to him he waited to see if the ooze was come towards another piece of dried meat or not. Temujin however, was beginning to chirp as he noticed that Tarkhan was giving HIS food to the ooze!

Is she sure offering the ooze a piece of food is the right idea? Nope, absolutely not. This ooze doesn't behave anything like the ooze knight she's familiar with, but there's no harm in trying. Besides, it looks like it's enjoying the tiny snack. "Nope," she says simply. "But ya never know what's the right idea until ya try it."
Luckily, Tarkhan does try it, and the ooze starts to move closer to him. Awesome! If they can just get the ooze in the right kind of position for Tarkhan to get his spell off... Wait, what's Temujin doing? The little drake looks unhappy and is creeping along Astrid's shoulder with tiny fangs curled up. That meat belongs to him! The drake leaps into the air and soars down to where the scrap of meat closest to Tarkhan landed - consequently, right in front of the impending ooze.
"Aht, Temujin, no!" Astrid shrieks quietly, trying not to startle the ooze, but the ooze has a one-track mind and that mind is on track for food. The drake lands and snaps the meat up in its tiny mouth just as the ooze descends upon it. Lightning fills Astrid's veins and propels her forward across the floor, scooping the drake up in her hand just before the ooze makes contact. In Temujin's place, she leaves a scrap of meat, which the ooze happily reaches for and pulls into its gelatinous form.
"Maybe nab that thin' with yer spell now, Tarkhan!" Astrid urges, cradling the drake in her arms just past him down the hall.
I couldn't remember where Temujin was, last I remember he was chilling with Astrid so I went with that

Her words were not encouraging to say the least but its not like anything else was coming to mind so the feed it method was as good as any at least as far as he was concerned, "Better then no plan I guess...", he simply shook his head and chuckled softly albeit nervously before he steadied himself again as the Ooze got closer. As he steeled himself Temujin's anger hit a fever pitch and caused him to take flight as he landed near his meat as he saw it. Interposing himself between the meat and the Ooze, which was probably not the best choice the little lizard could have done.
Watching in abject horror as Temujin eats the meat, and the ooze barrels towards him, the moment seemed to slow down infinitely so as he watched on. It could be from the lightning armor itself or from the adrenaline pumping through his veins, but all he could do was watch on as Astrid moved in the way and scooped up Temujin replacing him with other meat that the ooze happily ate instead. Her words sprung him to action however as he quickly dashed forward and sent mana to his pet pocket seal, moving to touch the Ooze itself with his right hand.
A slurping noise followed by a suction like vacuum effect on the Ooze proceeded as it slurped into his seal and the job was done for now at least. Falling to a seated position, he sighed as he looked up to the ceiling before looking over to Astrid, "That was..... Close. Quick and good moves on your part young one...", the adrenaline leaving him as they had succeeded in the first part of their task he seemed exhausted from the sudden lack of energy as he attempted to chide his Drake in the process, "And you boy... don't be so stingy again ya hear?".
