He's not sure if this was a good idea or a bad idea in hindsight; as if everything wasn't happening fast enough, it was now happening in double time. Ulrich practically teleports to the other side of the room at the speed of sound, taking the bear with him. Cantio has no idea what happens to it, but it just flops on its side motionlessly. Shaa grabs some halfling, which turns into an ugly blob of... oh dear Solaria. Cantio's eyes widens; amongst the chaos, the furious screaming; the crackling fire; the howling animals; the giggling pixies; and everything else... arrives a Beholder. "No way," he breathes, grimacing when a mercenary is simply eviscerated by the sheer look of the thing, and as if that wasn't enough, it looks like it's going for a familiar little green goblin shaking around a couple of pixies.
Before he can even eek out a single word of warning however, he feels a sudden clawing and tension on his boots.
Cantio yelps in surprise; it doesn't really hurt, not now— but he gets a shock when he looks down, because it's an entire porcupine that he entirely missed even being present within the chaos of everything else trying to climb up his leg, and—
The minstrel proceeds to panic, immediately setting off (for the second time) a slender dragon-like light that shoots from his fingertips(1), and tries to coil around the hefty, prickly beast in an attempt to stop it from climbing any farther up his leg. "No— bad! Don't you even— you stay right there." He can't even get a sentence out, so stunned by the sudden arrival as he is. The music stops suddenly within the bar; and across the room, embers of light flicker and die, because now the minstrel has to use his violin in an attempt to knock the porcupine off of him without touching it, or setting off those intimidating quills.
Which, he does.
But, without the spell cast, everything moves normally once more.(2)
Without warning of the change, there's a raucous as people throughout the tavern who had previously been fighting against the lag of his spell, suddenly start to trip over their own feet. Chairs fall. Glass breaks. The entire bar rumbles when the beholder slams into a wall with Ray's attack. Someone else tumbles out the window.
Some poor patron gets caught up in a beam from one of the pixies mid-fall as they trip on someone else— and joining the cacophony in the tavern screams the baying of a donkey as it lashes out in panicked bucks and flurries of hooves. The poor guy on the floor bundles up in a terrified ball as hooves crack against the floor on all sides of him, and the donkey suddenly makes a break for the door— trampling, and slamming against fleeing patrons until it slams into the frame—
and is too big to fit through.
The donkey hees and haws, bucking wildly as it tries to escape, its chubby middle caught in the doorframe.
Anyone trying to escape through the main entrance is now much harder, because it blocks the door entirely.
(1) Binding Light — You fire out a beam of pure light, illuminating the immediate area. This beam of light is thin and travels in a straight line up to a medium distance away. If this beam of light strikes someone it will wrap around them like a vine, restricting their movement. This light will bind them for their next post, preventing them from moving away. They can still manipulate their hands to a degree.

Ulrich spotted Shaa backing away from a halfling man— or what used to be a halfling— who had been struck by one of the streaks of magic. He was a man no more as he turned into a mass of flesh. Ulrich's eyes were then laced with concern as the mass floated in the air. A feeling in his stomach told him that this was going to get worse.
"I have a bad feeling about this," he uttered as he watched the mass of what used to be Wayne.
It then started to shoot forth tentacles. He gave a grimace as the ends of those tentacles began to quiver. As the bulbs burst open, realization as to what Wayne had been turned into had hit him. A Beholder had indeed entered the fray.
Tatalia had been busy capturing and interrogating the two fairies within a mug. The sounds attracted the attention of the Beholder. It turned it's attentions to the unsuspecting goblin as she shook the cup vigorously.
Oh no...
"Hey you, interrogating the pixies, it would be a good idea for you to get away from there!" He shouted from across the room. Hopefully she would be able to hear him through all the chaos.

Shaa quickly ducked behind an overturned table. He wasn’t a stone statue so that was a good sign. What was previously a fun Friday night was turning deadly and he wasn’t quite sure what to do. The skunk, probably sensing the danger, crawled next to him behind the table. You don’t spray me, you can stay. The skunk seemed to nod in agreement.
Shaa looked over at Tatalia who was shaking and yelling at a jar. Not the weirdest thing he had seen today. Who else was here? Ulrich was on the other side waving his arms at Tatalia. Canito was busy with a porcupine? Shaa looked back at the skunk and shrugged. He knew Ray was around somewhere but he couldn’t see him at the moment. Hopefully he was ok or, at the very least, not four legged.
Maybe it would be best if he just got out of the bar. He risked a look over at the door but there was apparently a donkey hopelessly jammed into the frame. It would probably better if he didn’t ask how that happened. A bolt of magic wizzed overhead. With a beholder running free, pixies going wild and who else knows what happening, Shaa knew he couldn’t stay here very long. He saw a metal plate and grabbed it. Shaa held the plate up over his head and saw the beholder moving toward Tatalia. Shaa grabbed an empty tankard with his other hand and tossed it over the table towards the beholder. He heard it smash against something, hopefully it distracted it. The skunk looked up at him unconvinced.

An immensely loud BOOM resounded behind Tatalia, and the mug she was holding went flying out of her hands. The immensely dizzy pixies fluttered up like drunks, and one of them fired a magical beam from its fingers at Tatalia... and struck a man behind her, turning him into a fish that flopped up and down on the floor, gasping for breath. Tatalia stared at that, as well as at the beholder that someone just warned her about (and another person blasted with magic), at the ash-filled boots of a disintegrated man, at the chaos...
People were dying. Tatalia had enough.
The goblin swung her hand on down at one of the dizzy pixies and smushed the horrible little creature onto the table. Glittery blue blood splatter sprayed out. The other pixie gasped. Then Tatalia snatched that trickster as well, eyes wild with anger. The little trickster screeched with equal rage.
"Oh, yeah, not so nice when it's one of you dealing with consequences, is it?!" snapped the goblin. She turned the pixie around in her hand and tugged on the little pixie's wings, making the wicked creature flail in pain and frustration. It wasn't nice, but Tatalia decided that was recompense for the people the pixies had literally killed off with their magic.
"Fix that fish, or I will yank your wings off!" Tatalia screamed at the pixie... and the pixie knew she meant it.
The pixie thrust a shaky, fearful finger forward. A bolt of light shot out and struck the fish. The fish became a man again, who heaved out a desperate breath.
Tatalia and her unwilling pixie fired off a couple more such magical blasts. First, a ray of light struck a man floating up toward the ceiling, dispelling the effect that had him trapped so. Without waiting to see what became of that, the goblin tried to launch another such blast at the angry beholder as it was turning to attack someone else, but instead struck the donkey blocking the door behind the monster, returning that man to his normal form and sending a small wave of people fleeing through the now open exit.
Tatalia would have forced the pixie to do a little more magic dispelling. It was working, after all! But suddenly she saw one of the last remaining pixies in the room glowering at her and charging up a spell. Tatalia knew better than to hold still. She rolled to the side, and watched as the table she'd been using as cover got shrunk down to the size of an ant.
The goblin screamed and started running from bolts of wild energy blasting behind her, and the panicked fairy in her grasp started screaming too.

Ray was running along the roof chasing a pixie that was laughing far too much to suit the seriousness with which he was taking the pursuit. He almost tripped over the lamp that hung from the roof before using it to slingshot himself towards the pixie. Blasts of magic rained around them and the chaos below seemed a world away.
"Get back ere you ugly little flying shit ball!" Ray screamed at the pixie as it wagged its butt at him before sailing away.
Ray took out his sword and threw it at the pixie, not realizing it would remove the gravity effect from the weapon. Instead of flying normally, it flew upwards, err, downwards towards the rest of the bar patrons. Specifically the blade flew towards the back of the head of young man who'd tackled the bear off of him(Ulrich)...
Ray was too focused on the pixie to realize this was happening. The pixie seemed amazed by the occurrence as well and stared at the sword as it fell, running into a mug that was thrown into the air by the commotion below. The collision gave Ray just enough of a chance to swat the little thing like a fly. Sending it crashing to the bar floor.
Just then a bolt of magic struck him and he felt gravity returning to normal. He was unable to right himself in time and fell, flailing wildly, to the ground. He landed with a gruesome splat flat on his back. The splat was created by the pixie he'd smacked out of the air, and resulted in a blotchy splatter of pixie blood spraying out from Ray in a circle onto everyone around him's boots.

He thinks he blacks out at some point— not literally— just, somehow manages to tune out literally everything going on around him until he finally knocks the sharp-quilled creature from his legs. Cantio dashes away before the rope of light around it fades, and the Tiefling finds himself standing on an unsteady table, tail curled nervously around his legs, when—
a metal plate clatters against the wall, narrowly missing him by a breadth. Cantio startles, instinctively stepping back and tipping the table backwards as his weight shifts. He falls with it, yelping in surprise as he crashes awkwardly between the floor and wall; a beam of energy from the last, rogue pixie hits the upturned table face, turning it into a parasol, just before the beams suddenly cease.
His violin, miraculously in one piece, skirts across the wooden floor towards the middle of the floor.
Dazed by the fall, he sits there a moment and tries to gather himself— but he barely has a second before a shadow falls across him; Cantio looks up quizzically, but quickly looks back down. He blanches as the shadow of the Beholder drifts towards him, attracted by the noise. The Tiefling feels the panic setting in; he grabs up the parasol as he slowly and cautiously stands— using it as a rather sorry shield against the Beholder as it starts to rumble.
The room lights up blue, and the parasol is eviscerated; turned into ash in his hands. Cantio chokes on his words, unable to even call for help in the shock of the moment.
He wastes absolutely no time rushing away, towards the nearest upturned table to hide, before it has the chance to do the same to him.

Ulrich was unaware of what was happening on the ceiling above as he was focused on the Beholder slowly making it's way toward Tatalia at the moment.
Then he felt the slight change in air pressure, a slight whistling of something cutting through the air as it traveled in his direction. He flashed to the side of the trajectory of whatever was flying at him.1 With almost no effort at all, Ulrich caught the sword by the handle out of the air.
He gracefully kept his balance as the momentum tried to drive him forward. The blade floated mere centimeters from stabbing into the floor. He stood up, twirling the sword in his hand, holding it pointed down so that the blade wouldn't accidentally nick anyone. He'd noticed a residual magical presence on the sword. Whoever owned this blade was well versed in magic.
A pixie landed on the floor in front of them, followed by the man he had saved from the bear earlier. Ulrich spared a quick glance to the ceiling through his puzzled expression. Again, this was just too comical a situation.
He bent down and offered the man his free hand, "You're the man I saved earl—" Ulrich stopped in the middle of his sentence. His eyes widened with recognition of the man before him.
A lot had changed about him in the decade since he last saw him. There was no mistaking it... It was the same man he'd given Ulrich his first experience in battle, and his first real battle injury.

Tears ran down Shaa’s snout as it appears his friend burst into a cloud of dust. He wanted to charge over and punch that beholder in its ugly face so bad his horns hurt, but that would just be reckless and suicidal. Shaa shuddered as the thought of Ray, Tatalia and Ulrich suffering similar fates flooded his mind. As he sat there feeling frustrated and very sorry for himself, a familiar face scrambled next to him and the remarkably well behaved skunk. It was the man who’s chair he had “borrowed” at the start of all this.
I was a fish! He exclaimed in exasperation. It was terrifying but exhilarating all at the same time. A fish!
Shaa rolled his eyes and wiped the snot of sadness from his snout. How fantastic for you. Too bad we aren’t going to stay alive long enough to revel in the novelty.
The man considered a moment. Ohh yes the mini beholder. Not great right, he he. Shaa noticed that the man seemed remarkably calm considering.
Well if it were an ACTUAL beholder I would be more concerned but this is obviously pixie magic. The man waved his hand dismissively. When the alpha pixie gets bored, it will be fine. And they get bored pretty quick..most of the time.
Shaa got a very confused look on his face.
Alpha pixie? Usually a blue guy with wings. I wrote a paper on pixie magic my senior year. Pretty interesting stuff. I even have a friend of mine that was meeting me here with a jar of them….realization dawns on him. Ohhhhh.
Well what do we do??
We just find the alpha…..yes there!
The man points over to Tatalia who is clutching a pixie in her hand, pulling on its wings. TATALIA! GET OVER HERE!

The sight of a burly minotaur yelling at you is probably not the most inspiring sight in the world, but Tatalia recognized Shaa, and she was actually very glad he seemed to have some idea of what to do, because she was swiftly running out of ideas.
Magical blasts whistled and burst behind Tatalia, making all sorts of strange and wondrous things happen. One blast made flowers sprout out from the floor. Another left a fiery explosion. Another made the plank of wood it struck widen, grow a bloated appearance, and then explode into a thousand little pieces of wooden shrapnel. All the while Tatalia ran, and all the while the last free pixie behind Tatalia screamed vengeance in some fairy language as it fired off chaotic magical energies at Tatalia. The poor little goblin did her best to run, but the situation was worsening constantly.
Still, Tatalia managed her escape. She skid to a stop in front of Shaa, then threw herself behind a table for cover and demanded: "RIGHT! What do we do now?!"
But before the minotaur could answer, the little blue fairy caught in Tatalia's hands decided to take action of its own. The creature suddenly clamped its teeth down on Tatalia's finger, and with a surprised scream she let go of the fairy.
Suddenly, the blue fairy was zipping away from Tatalia with a cackle, gathering vast magical power in its hands.
Tatalia's eyes went wide. She cast a worried look at Shaa.
"What do we do NOW?!" she repeated desperately.

Cantio skids across the wooden floor in his hurry to take cover from the Beholder; the many-eyed beast rumbles and turns to look to where he’s hiding. Cantio shudders, keeping his back pressed against the upturned table. After a moment of chaos happening behind him, head spinning and shoulders shivering with a wash of anxiety crashes over him from his risk of near-obliteration. The name of this place is really misleading! “ Calm, calm…” the tiefling chants, tail flicking wildly as he scrambles for something to use as an impromptu weapon; the first thing he grabs is an empty mug. “ Keep calm, you’re not going to be useful if you’re not calm.” His hand shaking, Cantio closes his eyes, and the mug starts to glow. (1) He winces as another flash of light erupts behind him; and the table he’s been hiding behind eviscerates into ash. Without looking, Cantio turns and throws the glowing object— and it grows brighter, and brighter, and brighter the closer it gets to the Beholder. (2) It’s not quite a flashbomb, but it’s bright enough to make the Beholder… close its damn eyes. Quickly, Cantio casts out his hands— vines of light emit from his fingers from overtop the ashpile that was once the table he hid behind— and writhe as they sweep around the beholder. (3) The vines tangle with its eyelids, snapping the beast’s many eyes shut against its skin, and rendering it temporarily unable to see… which means, unable to turn things to ash. For now, anyway… The beholder struggles against its binds, eyes trying to creak open, as Cantio scrambles. He grabs his violin, hauling tail towards the group of Shaa, Tatalia, and… he notices the fairy, but its back is turned to him. So, he does the only thing he really can do at this moment… and hits the damn thing with the back of his violin, like he's swinging a club. One of his strings snaps; and the fairy’s magic eviscerates in its hands with the impact, and it goes flying, all limbs out in an ‘X’, with a splat! right into Shaa’s chest. “Oh gods, sorry!” he stutters, wide-eyed and still awfully disheveled from his encounter with the Beholder earlier. "Are you okay, Shaa?"

The man stared back at Ulrich, eyes also wide with recognition. He took Ulrich's hand and was pulled up to his feet. A gentle hand patted the older man on the shoulder as the other hand came forth, returning his sword to him. The fall from the ceiling must have done more damage than initially thought.
"You might need to sit the rest of this out," Ulrich says to the man with a nod.
The man gives a nod in kind, and he goes to sit somewhere safe and away from the fight. The bespectacled man turns a table on it's side for the man to take cover behind just in case magic came flying his way.
Ulrich turns his attentions back to the fight at hand in front of him. As soon as he turns around, a sphere of blue magic comes flying right at him.
"Gah!" he screams as he reflexively executes a backwards somersault. He pulls himself back up onto his feet quickly, giving side glances all around the room, clearing his throat.
Phew, that was a close one!
More spheres of magic came flying at Ulrich chaotically. He proceeds to dodge one after another in a slightly comedic manner. He finally flips another table on it's side and props himself behind it for safety.
"Uh, guys! If you're going to do something, now would probably be the time to do it!"

Shaa peeled the splatted pixie off his chest and held it in the vice like grip of a true brawler. The pixie could tell it wasn’t going anywhere so it snuggled into the palm of Shaa’s massive hand. Well now what…man? He said to the former fish and apparent pixie expert. Hubert Foxbottom at your ser… No time for introductions Hughie, how do we fix this!?! Hubert rubbed his chin a bit in thought. Well hang on, it’s been a minute since school you know? HUGHIE! All right, all right. Hold the little guy up a bit.
The beholder was blinking it’s massive eyes and starting to recover. Any time man! Shaa said in frustration. Oh right, that’s it. Hubert pulls out a small blue candle and lights it in front of the pixie. The pixie seems fascinated by the flickering flames of the small candle. Yes, yes, you like that don’t you. You want to trade? The beholder starts to turn. Yes look at the pretty blue candle. It’s flames make me not want to turn you into a small paste! The pixie got a concerned look and nodded at Hubert. Floxal Han Nebris, chuza tarrementalir. The deal is done! A bright flash of light fills the room as a whooshing sound can be heard.
When Shaa opens his eyes, the candle and the pixie have vanished. As he looks around the bar, everything seems serene. Nothing is on fire, people are eating and drinking with no animals to be seen. Shaa looked at Hubert confused.
See, what did I tell you. Everything is fine. Just a little Pixie hijinx.
But you were a fish.
Been a lot worse than that in my research, let me tell you. Ever been a dung beetle? Not the greatest.
So it never happened?
Oh it all happened all right. Pixie magic manipulates time and space. So what seemed to happen over the course of an hour or so, really only took a fraction of a second, then ended. Most people will regard the experience as a casual daydream that will fade from memory. Happens all the time really.
How come you and I remember it all?
We were all part of the contract to end it. Traded it for my candle. Good thing I keep one with me just in case. Those pixies do love a nice flame.
This is so weird.
Trippy right. If I were you, I would buy a blue candle and keep it with you just in case. You never know. I sure didn’t but you don’t have to be a dung beetle twice to learn that lesson. Ha!
As Shaa and Hubert continued to talk about the ins and outs of space time manipulation, a very human looking Wayne approached them.
Well, we’ll if it isn’t Shaa…. Hmm that’s weird, de ja vu. Wayne got a confused look on his face.
Shaa looked over at Hubert who just shrugged and went back to his drink. Shaa looked across the bar seeing his friends hanging out and having fun. Some surly looking lizard men in the back. Shaa turned back to Wayne.
Ummm, maybe we should take this outside?
