Ray had finally convinced Sarne to partake in a test of arms. The last push had been a promise to heal any wounds less grave than death itself. They had chosen to head to the military academy where a proper training area could be found and where the vanguards and citizens of Grey Citadel would not look upon their lord in judgement for taking on a commoner in a formal duel.
The field was a large sandy rectangle, out of the sand rose several stone bridges, pillars, and other obstacles and hazards meant to provide experience in a variety of situations. In the middle of the stadium was a much smaller stone rectangle that rose three feet from the ground. This stage served as the setting for the more rule driven, formal duels. Anything would go in this match though, no areas or techniques would be off limits to give them a true taste of each other's steel.
Ray took his position at one end of the smaller rectangle across from Sarne, he summoned his celestial companion who burst into existence as Ray's right arm. He stood in a low stance with his small saber in his left hand held forward and a much larger saber in the right held above his head horizontally. His whole body seemed to glow slightly, the blades were aflame with holy energy, and his eyes shown with the same light.
"Come at then, little lordling." They weren't in the citadel, and provocation seemed a good strategy to start.

Sarne just smiled at Ray. Sarne would not be taunted that way. He walked to his starting area he just tug on his gauntlets as if taking his time. This gave Sarne took time to study Ray. This was new to Sarne, Ray's new stance.
"So that's the way it is I see now we have both grown in our abilities," said Sarne. One thing Sarne has learned during this time was not to give away what you know. Take your time and let the opponent make the first move.
Sarne saw Ray's weapons they would be a problem. Sarne would go with what he knew best the parrying dagger and his family sword. He took up his stance his sword in a high guard as well and the parrying dagger
Sarne's sword is low and slightly to his side with the point up in front of him. He held his dagger straight out high and horizontal with the tip very close to his sword point. his feet with one forward and one back.

The Little Lord would be obstinate... Qil gave a chuckle in Ray's mind, he always seemed amused when Ray fought for anything besides his life or other's lives. Sarne had given up the offensive to Ray, and he would oblige him. Sarne's stance was barely changed and reminding him strongly of the child he'd fought so many years ago. He hoped he would never truly have to face Sarne to the death, he much preferred him alive.
"Alright then, I'll set the pace for us."
Ray stepped closer, keeping his stance up until he got just out of striking distance. At that point Ray rushed forward with his small saber above his head, throwing it towards Sarne's chest. Ray then swung the larger saber in two wide arcs in front of himself, the first sweeping right to left and the second sweeping left to right, with both hands for maximum force. At the end of the swings he released the sword with his left hand and raised it over his shoulder.
As a healer you could afford to throw caution to the wind, and he had a trick up his sleeve...

But Sarne was not going to underestimate Ray or his skill. They had in the pass crossed swords and Ray had experience Sarne did not have. Thinking Sarne remembered how fast Ray could strike and the accuracy of his thrusts. but now Sarne was not a kid anymore and had grown in skill and strength. The little lordling comment was getting on his nerves. Nut he would let that go. Sarne was still on all out defense. He turned his blade to deflect the thrown sword. Sarne stepped to the left then right turning to avoid Ray's blades getting a solid strike. The tip of Ray's Scimitar made a mark on Sarne's armor. Then Sarne did a hard turn to the left allowing Ray to go by Sarne using his sword handle to move along his arm restricting Ray's movement. Now behind him, Ray would have to turn around to face Sarne.

Ray was surprised to find himself with his back to the youngling, but it was the perfect set up for his plan. Ray turned furiously to face Sarne with his empty hand swinging out towards Sarne in a hammer grip. At the last same time he summoned his small saber back to his hand, it appeared in the blink of an eye moving full speed at Sarne. Ray was certain Sarne hadn't seen that one coming.
Ray swung the larger saber as well, trying to capitalize on the opening he hoped he'd bought. The saber moved in a simple up strike flowing into a downward chop for two additional attempts at Sarne.
Can't defend yourself forever... Ray thought to himself in frustration.

Sarne felt the punch to the back. He could feel his armor plate bend some. The Chain mail underneath expanded and the padding armor adsorb some of the force. The armor took most of the damage but Sarnes back still hurt. Sarne flew forward from the impact. Sarne's sword went fell out of his hands. He roll to another part of the arena a place with large pillars and other obstacles. People watched his nice sword bounce and then slide to the edge of the fighting platform. Sarne could not believe he did not think of that Sarne should have known Ray would have done that. Sarne hoped people would watch the sword and not him. as he moved in to the shadows of the pillars.
When everyone looked back at the Young lord he was gone no one could see him. Now Sarne had his Parrying dagger and his Kukri Dagger ready.

Having lost sight of Sarne after prematurely punching him and knocking him down Ray was confused. Perhaps the young lord was finally about to take the offensive. Ray walked himself towards a section of wall that rose up from the sand, trying to reduce the angles Sarne could attack from. He raised his blades and began to check for any signs of movement in the sand as he awaited the young lords next move.

Sarris had gotten wind of the event through the gossip mill. Sarris made her way to the arena. She hated fighting for the sake of fighting. The thief in her saw this as a rare opportunity to make some easy money handling bets. It also let her watch the crowd in case there was other interference.

Waiting like a predator stalking its prey. Sarne would wait for just a little longer. As Ray got closer Sarne became one with the shadows around him. Sarne had placed something for Ray to find now just had to wait for the surprise. He had learn some skills as a ranger He put a bell out there so he would know were Ray was depending which bell Ray touched.
He knew ray was experienced in many things his background had prepared him for this. Sarne knew that Ray was no fool one wrong mistake and Sarne would lose the Match. Sarne just had to wait on the bell and then strike with everything he had. The first sign happen as a little bell rang out. The string with a little bell that had been concealed. It Had been touched by Ray telling Sarne Ray was near. Now all Sarne had to do is wait for the right moment.

A curious sound rang from Ray's side, he jumped into action and smashed a blade into a pillar of stone jutting from the arena. He slashed a small bell in half as he did so and managed to get the blade wedged in a crack in the pillar. He would need to pry it loose, leaving himself open for an attack.
He put his full force on the blade, tugging and shoving against it with his leg as well. All the while looking over his shoulders waiting on Sarne to pounce on him while he was weak.
"Nice trick, I see you understand you're at a disadvantage!" Taunting him wouldn't help, but he couldn't resist.
He could heal from a few strikes at least, though he'd prefer to keep this a contest of martial prowess instead of magical talent and endurance.

Too bad, Ray gave himself away by glancing back in Sarne's direction. He looked at the blade that was stuck in the puller and saw it was just halfway in it was not stuck with the amount of dust coming from around the blade as Ray pulled and looked like he was struggling.
Sarne moved from shadow to shadow then stepped out appearing out of nowhere some distance away out of striking range. "I tried that trick with my dad and got two crack ribs for it. Sarne was standing there with his parry dagger in his left hand and his Kukri Dagger in his right. "I have learned something else I don't need to be the best fighter. That's why I have friends like you Ray. "Let's do this!" Sarne dropped back into another fighting stance. his feet well placed in the sand It looked odd but well guarded. Now a white hue was coming form him.

The odds changed a bit with the situation. Sarris did not want either of the hurt but this was how males figured their place in the world and this was also an old debt to be played out.
When Sarne did not press his advantage the odds changed again. Each bet made Sarris a little money. She was working up the crowd as she knew both fighter.

As the blade finally clunked free from the stone Ray was amazed to find himself free of harm, he'd gotten lucky and Sarne had taken the situation for a ruse. Sarne had decided to take a more face to face approach to this fight. Ray jogged towards Sarne with his blades at waist level, choosing to leap into this clash to take advantage of Sarne's rough footing in the sand.
He closed and took a countermovement boosted jump, bringing both sabers down towards Sarne's guard. His larger saber would rise up after the initial strike for a second upward slash as Ray recovered from his landing in the sand.
"Should've taken the chance when you had it!"

Sarne smiled as Ray leaped into the Air. Sarne dashed forward as Ray leaped closing quickly Sarne knew timing was everything. the sand would allow him to slide by Ray and hopefully let ray fly by. Ray had just gotten off the ground when Sarne reached him. Sarne dropped to his knees and slid under Ray Sarne tried to parry the sabers but the long one still hit his shoulder pad stabbing into it some. Ray could tell there was an odd resistance to it. looking Sarne had a gold hue about Sarne. Ray knew it immediately is was Armor of Faith.
Sarne struck with his Kukri Dagger cutting across both Ray's shins it was a powerful strike but enough to throw Ray off balance. but would it give Sarne the chance he needed. Sarne was a patience man now. He knew he might lose in the end but Sarne was going to leave a mark before he did.

Sarris kept her back to the fight. She walked the aisle to the main landing. She made it to the top of the landing and kept going. She had taken bets from people she did not know. None of them had realized the big problem. Division. She did not know how to do the math to divide the winnings from the losers share.
Both Ray and Sarne would be upset with her being so reckless. But she was getting the watchers engaged in the test.
