Rena trills softly, idly cracking her neck and glancing down from her spot in a tree, carelessly balancing one of her bayonets on a finger as she watches the caravan struggle to get a wagon out of the mud...her silver eyes flick up to glance around at her family, each in a different tree around the road. with a sigh, she slips the bayonet up her sleeve to rest with the others before dropping to the ground with wings flared to slow her descent, "...looks like you lot could use some help 'fore the local flavor decides to go after the easy prey," the crow tilts her head, frozen mist puffing from her nostrils with each exhale as she speaks. she blinks, then glances back over her shoulder, "Loci, Wind, you both get on freeing the wagon. Loci alone could manage it, but 'e burned 'imself out the last time this 'appened, and I dinnae want that 'appening again if'n I can help it." In terms of obvious weapons, there's really only the sword on her back, the hilt decorated with gently shining silver roses, a pair of tonfa with oddly arranged metal rods for the longer side, one resting in a hoslter on each hip...though the short bamboo staff that runs parallel to the sword's sheath on her back is...a bit odd. five more crows drop from the trees: one spectral, hazy around the edges and bleeding smoke from the embers that speckle his ragged feathers, amber eyes shining with intent; two skeletal, their bones adorned with spectral feathers in exactly the right places to help them emote - a scruff around the neck, a crest atop the skull, a strip along the outside of each forearm - darkened eye sockets home to rings of emerald light for one, and rings of a rose gold glow for the other; two seemingly normal, one golden eyed and one ruby eyed, with the gold-eyed crow bearing on his back a crossbow that's as long as he is tall. the skeletal crows step forward, their tunics rustling in the breeze as they move toward the trapped wagon, eye lights sharp and focused and filled with purpose.
Quest Name: Muddy Tires Participants: Two or more Location: Marshflats Post Requirements: 5 posts per person, 200 words per post Reward: +1 Renown Description: The swamp has always been a difficult place to navigate, making it harder for large transports, caravans or wagons to get through the marshy terrain due to the deep mud and tangled plant life. Travelers often find themselves getting stuck, spending hours if not days digging themselves out. Recently, members of the Mud Worms, a local gang, have been targeting these stuck travelers, robbing them of their goods and even sometimes their lives. Help out one of these stuck groups, getting their supplies and vehicles free from the mud and back on their way before falling prey to an ambush. -Additionally, you can choose to instead act as a villain and rob the travelers yourself, leaving them stuck to fend for themselves.

Post by Maren Nori Morwenna on Apr 17, 2024 13:31:31 GMT -5
Maren had been perched on the back of one of the wagons, in their female form for now as they strummed their lute humming a little tune. They were heading towards some strange ring of flowers in the area but of course the wagon became stuck. They were slightly perturbed by this as they weren’t planning on playing in the mud but sighed and hopped down to help shifting to their male form for extra strength before pausing at the rustling in the trees. They turned hearing the speaking and seeing the figures. Keeping a wary eye on them as he watched the two go to help the wagon. “Hello. Locals I’m guessing? My those are some lovely feathers. Tell me have you seen a strange ring of flowers in this area? Currently it’s just mud. Didn’t used to be this bad from what I remember but it seems worse now” they commented with a friendly greeting as they looked down at the crows with curiosity. It had been a while since they had seen any avian races. They knew a few when they used to live around here but hardly saw them in the big cities

Rena tilts her head, blinking a couple of times at the rapidfire questions and statements with…little in the way of clear connections, “...ah…no, we’re not local. As for the flowers y’re after…they wouldnae ‘appen t’ave stories around ‘em ‘bout peculiar ‘appenstances what ‘appen t’those who enter? If’n that’s the case, I think y’re better off headin’ on foot from ‘ere. ‘S ‘bout an hour thataway-” she produces a long, slender bayonet and whips it out across the distance between herself and a particular tree, the blade embedding halfway to the hilt in the wood before the weapon just…vanishes1 with a crack of displaced air as the crow slides what seems to be another, similar blade up her sleeve, “-if’n ye hoof it. Could be there and back ‘fore the bandits get ‘ere once they’ve ‘eard we’re gone”
Loci and Wind crack their necks, striding forward to latch onto the stuck wagon with their sharp, bone talons before they begin to pull. Bones creak and wood groans, both skeletons’ eye lights blazing brighter, brighter, brighter still, and still the wagon remains trapped by the mud, the little undead crows’ efforts beginning to drive them feet first into the muck.
Whistle lets out a curse and striding forward to pull her skeletal siblings away from their work, “...alright, this obviously isnae gonna work like last time. So how ‘bout we try an’ scrounge up some tools instead of beating our skulls against the problem hoping it breaks before we do, hm?”
Wind nods his agreement, already circling around the wagon to examine it from as many angles as he can manage, mumbling ideas to himself as he trills…

Maren smiled at their reply making note of the direction with a small nod “right thank you very much.” They remarked and looked to the two skeletal birds who tried freeing the wagon. They were fascinating and Maren was wondering what the story was with them. Quite the little group that was for certain. They then slid the lute onto their back and looked around for something useful “perhaps a simple lever mechanism” they thought aloud. Of course I could try and assist in this form but if the mud is so soft I’ll likely just sink in with the others.” They looked around wondering what to do to help. Their powers wouldn’t be of much use in this moment so it was quite perplexing especially with a possible time crunch of bandits approaching.
“It sounds like you’ve been helping carts for a good while. That is quite commendable I must say” they spoke again after a moment having caught ‘like last time’ spoken by one of the trio, seemingly the leader of the bunch. “It’s nice to meet fellow adventurers” they added as they searched the edge of the woods for thick and strong pieces of wood to possibly asssist getting the wagon unstuck

Rena trills softly, silver eyes glancing over at her children as they scatter to find material they can use to free the wagon, "...we like to help. that's all there really is to it," it helps when someone pays them, of course, but that's been taken care of already, so they can afford a little altruism... Bell chirps softly, idly cracking his neck as he steps up to stand next to his wife, quietly humming as he tilts his head, "...probably about half an hour until we have to fight off bandits, I think..." the spectral crow murmurs, amber eyes scanning the horizon as he considers. Rena nods, trilling a few sharp notes to her children to let them know. the children respond by redoubling their efforts, Loci and Wind both stripping branches from nearby trees, their eye lights blazing bright as they work feverishly to fell them for use as levers. it...definitely goes faster after Rena rolls her own silver eyes and snaps her talons, causing the two skeletal chicks to begin moving with an almost predatory grace and manic strength. it...still takes most of the half hour, though. they're not exactly using tools, instead simply tearing away with their talons. Rena, meanwhile, begins to touch her hands to each of her weapons, fingers crackling with black frost, that same black frost forming patterns over her sword, the bamboo rod next to it, the pair of peculiar tonfa on her hips, and the knives that briefly appear in her hands. Her eyes gain flecks of shining, bone white as they flick over her surroundings...it's as though she's preparing for something she knows is coming...
