Rena Brighteyes
Gender: Female
Age: 20
Race: Aviankin
Nationality: Crescent Isles
Appearance: Rena is…short, standing at roughly four feet tall. Covered mostly in iridescent black feathers with black scales on her forelimbs, her piercing silver eyes often seem to lance out from the dark of the rest of her…or the darkness itself. She typically wears short dresses and long jackets that allow for full mobility and the concealment of her bayonets. She keeps her talons neatly trimmed and filed, occasionally painting them silver or white to match her eyes. She’s somewhat curvy, with soft feathers concealing the lean muscle of an endurance runner. Her hands are long and slender, with strong and dexterous fingers well suited for sleight of hand and knife tricks. Each of her wings is about eight feet long from wingtip to shoulder.
Personality: Brighteyes is…strange, seeming to switch from cold and hostile to warm and compassionate at the drop of a hat. There's trauma here, old scars both from her banishment and the things she’s done under the influence of her curse.
History: Rena Brighteyes grew up in The Valley of Crows as heiress to the Brighteyes Clan. She spent her youth trained in stealth, hunting and assassination, and favored long, slender blades which she could easily conceal in the sleeves of her long coats and short dresses. It was shortly before she would have inherited the title of clan head that her place in succession was usurped by her brother, and Rena was subsequently banished with nothing more than what she had on her at the time.
Months later, she was found out in a storm by a Tolling Bell, a warrior smith of the Blackfeather clan. Tolling Bell took her in, gave her his bed to sleep in while he slept in his workshop a room over, and generally kept her safe while she recovered from the months of isolation and near starvation.
As time went by, Rena and Bell slowly grew close, closer, and closer still, eventually beginning to court one another with gifts of specially forged weapons from Bell and carefully crafted clothes from Rena. Soon enough, they were married, and a couple years later Rena had a clutch on the way.
But…while Rena and Bell were courting and getting married, trouble had sparked in the Valley. Trouble in the form of a hag, who began to make strange, arcane deals and bargains with those who approached her. Bell himself made a deal with the hag, exchanging one of his greatest works at the time for the ability to be by his wife’s side regardless of the circumstances.
…One of the hag’s deals spiraled out of control, resulting in a cataclysmic blizzard that refused to end. It was during this that Rena made her own deal, asking the hag to give her the ability to put food on her family’s table despite the harsh conditions. The hag laid a curse on her, then, instilling a terrible, bloodthirsty hunger into her mind and imbuing a horrible ice into her bones.
Rena and Bell made their escape from the dying Valley mere weeks later…it was during this escape that Brighteyes lost control of her hunger, her curse, and proceeded to kill and consume her husband, the ravening beast she’d become allowing three of their eggs - half the clutch she’d laid - to freeze in the snow as she devoured the body of her husband…
…so it is that Rena Brighteyes wanders the land beyond the now frozen Valley of Crows, wracked by guilt and haunted by hunger, carrying three warm, living eggs that refuse to hatch, and three eternally frozen eggs that never will, the only thing left of her husband being the feathers he’d worked into the metal of the bayonets he’d gifted her as a wedding present…
