Winter didn’t find Moonglade as hard as other places, but would stretch claws of freezing winds over its lush forests regardless. The common folk would be weary and irritated long before the sun went down, which happened earlier than ever. When she arrived at the village, they were in the process of resuming their work for the day, closing their doors and shuffling away back home.
Or back to the tavern.
Kamille wasn’t a rare sight by any means in the village - on the contrary, it seemed as if everyone knew her enough to warrant a nod of the head or a a wave back. The Witch had become a constant in the villagers lives since her exile from the Court, keeping the greater evils at bay - by whatever means necessary.
That's been her way of doing things all along.
Whatever it takes.
Of course this time she would notice her arrival granted her double takes on the villagers end, and she was positive there would be gossip running rampant that night forward: she arrived, not alone, but hand in hand with a small boy, no older than ten.
A young boy with dark hair and deep blue eyes.
They wouldn’t say anything to her face yet, but she wasn't free from the scrutiny of the people, and knew exactly what they would say. It didn’t matter - perhaps it could be used on her favor, even. Kamille wondered very few would try to cause trouble with her little apprentice if they knew right ahead of their association...
With a hurl of wind, snow and black feathers, she walked into the tavern confidently, her little apprentice on tow. Sleepy and tired, shoulders slumped over, the boy rubbed his eyes and yawned, completely unaware of the attention he received right now. On a normal day, that would cause his anxiety to spike - but right now he was too tired to notice.
Kamille went right ahead to the counter, putting the boy on a tall stool and taking the one right next to him. Warmth followed her, as always. The barman was already bringing a glass of red as she usually took, hesitating when his eyes fell on the boy.
"Good evening, Gerard. This is Hektor, my new apprentice."
He blinked, as he finally poured her wine.
"How many apprentices dya got?"
She shrugged.
"Give him something warm to eat. And while you do that, why don’t you tell me something interesting? Something happened while I was out? Someone new around?"

Elvira trudged along the most commonly taken path through Moonglade. It wasn't like her to travel in such a predictable pattern but she was exhausted from this journey. She also wasn't wishing for trouble, which had seemed to find her no matter which way she had traveled. At least with this path she would hopefully have other travelers to potentially help her in a stitch. She had opted to keep the robes in her bag this time, instead choosing to wear her hooded shawl covered by a thick bearskin coat with fur. She had hiking boots on to allow her to travel such a distance in the inclement weather, and her pants were thick, baggy flannel pants. She felt odd being in such clothes as she was still unused to being out of her robes, but she would rather look and feel odd than freeze.
In the distance she spots a tavern, one that she had passed by many times yet never opted to enter. "No loss for me now, I suppose," she thought. In truth, she was delaying her return to the city. She wasn't ready to face whatever lay there for her transgression. She wasn't sure what the punishment for breaking Tatalia out of jail would be, but she was sure it would destroy what she had built while traveling. That would be devastating for her, as she had built it all for her late parents.
Approaching the tavern, she paused. A few quick thoughts run through her head, but she shakes them away and pushes the doors open, feeling the instant warmth and spirit of the tavern in the air. As she walks to sit on one of the high stools next to the bar, she slips off the bearskin coat to reveal a white blouse underneath. She had no intentions of drinking, but was ready for a warm meal and someone to finally talk with.
Out of the corner of her eye, she spots the woman clad in black. She had no intentions of even passing a thought about her, but something told her to look up. "Wow, she's rather stunning," she thought nonchalantly, before being struck with the realization. "Oh, jukette!1 That's the Witch of Moonglade!" She quickly looks down to her hands, hoping that Lady Kamille hadn't noticed her gaze. To her dismay, the bartender had come over and gave her a strange look before asking the obvious question. Unfortunately, she wasn't ready for it.
"What d'ya want," he asked, rather passively.
"I... Uh... A moment, please."

Too late. Kamille was fairly observant of new people she found on the village, and her habit of approaching newcommers was fairly well known. When the priestess' eyes wandered aimlessly around, they found the Witch's eyes already locked on her. True to the rumors, the woman's eyes had a pull of sorts, a gravitas akin to that of the tide, slowly pulling - demanding - attention to herself.
She raised the glass of red to the woman.
"Evening, sister. Care if I join?"
Despite of the woman's answer, the Witch turned to the barman.
"I suppose a warm meal is a good start for weary travelers. On me. One for me as well."
He had just put a bowl of what looked like a stew in front of the boy. Hektor had lifted his gaze to the traveler when the Witch started talking, curiosity lighting up his eyes for a moment, despite his tiredness. His eyes were of a striking sapphire hue, stars swirling inside. But unlike the woman, once met with anothers gaze, he lowered his eyes imediatelly, trying to pretend he didn’t see it. He pulled his bowl to himself and started eating it, shoting them a sideways glance from time to time.
The Witch stood up, indicating the seat next to the woman, as if asking permission to join her. She's one of those people who smile with their eyes - a true, warm smile, dimples and all. There might be second intentions to her approaching the mysterious woman, but her intentions seemed far from nefarious.
Yet, there were black claws stitched to her gloves.
"Where you coming from, sister? What news do you bring from there?"

The elf relaxed upon finding those alluring eyes, something about them had simply put her at ease. With a soft smile, she removed her hood to reveal the pale lavender skin with dark purple blotches. Her silvery hair fell out of the hood like waves that had been contained. Her voice was sweetly accented, placing a thickness to the words she spoke. "I have heard stories of you, curuni.1 'The Witch of Moonglade, the most charismatic woman of all of Charon!' I am rather pleased to see the stories are true. Your eyes speak a thousand tales, even when your lips are still."
She chuckles softly as the meal is delivered and quickly orders a drink. Turning back to Kamille, the smile weakens slightly. "The news is rather bleak, most of Charon is struggling in the wake of recent events. I certainly hope things turn around, or I may be too busy soon enough. I can only heal so many people a day."
After shoveling some of the warm food into her mouth, savoring a meal that finally wasn't preserved meats or what she could scavenge, she returns to a smile once more, though this one seems slightly devious. She looked as if she was almost suspicious of Kamille, but also enjoying the chase. "I am curious, however. What does a noblewoman such as yourself, one with immense power and pull as the stories say, want with a singular Sister like myself? Is there something on your mind, Lady Kamille? Perhaps some sort of plan for me?"
1. Curuni - "Witch," in Elvish, this doesn't have a negative connotation

Flattery was not lost on her - but she did take it with a small jest, alongside a soft blush that she couldn’t help.
"What lies have you been told! Quite an 180 from a few years ago, when I was supposedly a hideous hag! But I think that's far better, right?"
Maybe it was her smile, truly warm and caring. It added a twinkle to her eyes, dimples in her cheeks.
The woman mentioned healing others. She wondered what a healer was doing there? Maybe she had come to learn from the druids?
Interesting...
"Don’t pay much attention to those stories. I'm still as big a fool as anyone can be, I can assure you. Reminds me of a story about cats and curiosity..."
Certainly curiosity was a factor - a huge one, to be fair. Not that the woman would be able to assess it right now, as her reasons to approach were twofold: the Witch was known for keeping a watchful eye over strangers around that area.
"So it seems like things hadn’t changed much, sadly... It's the same all around Charon."
More or less...
She chuckled softly at the woman's last remark. Something less known about the Witch was how much of an improviser she was, often stepping into situations without realizing what day it was. Making her moves look planned was definitely an art rather than a science.
"You clearly have too much faith in me, I'll be sorry to dissappoint you. Though you speak as if you got nothing interesting to offer. You could start with your name."
Kamille was effortlessly charming, even when her smile took a hint of the mischievous.
