Quest Name: Wacky Races 2 Participants: Two or more Location: King's Valley Post Requirements: 5 posts per person, 200 words per post Reward: +1 Renown Description: One of the valley's favorite pastimes is racing, specifically on horseback, but any animal will do as long as it is exciting. If you want to make a name for yourself in the plains, winning a race is the best way to do that, but it is one of the hardest things to do, locals do not play fair. The quest is simple, get into a race with either a mount or a land vehicle. You don't have to win, but try your hardest, and keep an eye out, if anything goes in these races. (If you do not own a mount, a donkey will be provided for you.)
Sarne walks through the village town by a large stable with a lot of different things in it. A festivity was going on and some race that Sung was checking out. A man walks up to Sarne the man seems to be a nobleman from the King's Valley he had a few servants with him. "I am a local Lord in this Valley. I am Lord Ellars and you look like a strong man and a knight. I saw you fly in on that Terror Bird. I have an offer for you If you will hear me out." explained Lord Ellars with a polite smile.
Sane gave a glance behind him. Making sure that the lord was talking to him. "Go on Lord Faqen I will hear you out," replied Sarne who did not seem impressed by Lord Ellar.
Making a happy smile Lord Ellars eyes lit up. "I have some animals I would like to race and some of my riders got injured lately. I will sponsor you in the race you see it would help me out and get you some reputation around here if you win or at least race. It's that easy." explained Lord Ellars. "So will you help me?" Lord Ellars asked.
"Wait you," Lord Ellars said loudly looking at Raoul. One of the servants whispered in the lord's ear. "Raoul is your name right?" said the Lord Ellars. "Will you hear me out? I will make it worth your while, Raoul" explained Lord Ellars.

Raoul O. Ardelean holds his hand over his forehead as he walks around the festival trying to enjoy himself. The detective was overworked and tired, especially over the past few days having to deal with some of the craziest and toughest cases to crack in his career, a magic conch ring, a pink elephant, and even a poison serial killer. For today he just wanted to relax and take it easy. He'd been recommended by an old friend to come to the celebration to ease his mind and he intended to follow that suggestion. He was simply looking over some talismans and calligraphy in a craftsman’s stall while he was eavesdropping on nearby noble efforts to rope in some knight into racing for him. His concentration was broken as he heard the fellow not only turn to him but call him over.
He straightened himself out and walked over to the group of fellows with a faint smile on his face as he bowed before the nobleman and said, “Hello there it’s a pleasure to make your acquaintance. Yes my name is Raoul, Raoul Ardelean. I overheard your offer to this knight fellow and I have to say that I’m interested, that is if you properly compensate me".
The dhampir thought it over as he stood at the stall. The man's request wasn’t so bad, just to race an animal around a track, hell he thought he could even win.

Be for he sarne answered Sarne turned to see the Man. he is a Aasmir Dhampir he looked to be five foot ten and an athletic lean build. He has short white hair, and light blue eyes. He had a pair of bifocals. Also wearing a black tie and red dress shirt under a black sleeveless over shirt that is buttoned up. He had on black dress pants and brown shoes. wearing a long brown trench coat and often wears a black fedora hat. Sarne looked back at Lord Ellars with some skepticism. "Injured lately... right..." answered Sarne. His tone showed he did not trust this lord. Sarne shook his head looking at the ground. "OK, I will help you out but if there is anything shady going on I will find you later, Lord Ellars," warned Sarne with a grin. "Let's see what you got for us Lord Ellars." inquired Sarne motioning for the lord to go first. They walk over to a more privet stable. There were a lot of things in there this Lord had quite a lot of normal and exotic animals. all mounts with riding equipment Horses of all types. Felines, Canines, Birds, and even an Adult Drake. The Lord smiled "I have one for you bother over there the fast ones in this territory two donkeys stood there. The Drake Stay away from that one." the Lord Ellars instructed.
"Raoul is your name" asked Sarne in a plight tone. "So do you trust this Lord Raoul?" inquired Srane

Raoul stepped up to the two and leaned forward trying to shift his body language to be welcoming and trustworthy as he placed on a faint fake smile. He had his hesitation about this whole thing from the beginning, racers being injured? Just so happened to need racers? It had to be Sarne and Raoul. This sounded kind of odd and suspicious, however, Raoul intended to keep his mind open and investigate this further.
“I am down to help as well, I’m not a very good racer or strong-looking like this Sarne fellow here”, he motions towards the other adventurer, “But I can at least promise you amusement and cheer from my attempt”, he chuckled faintly trying to lighten the mood and feel out Lord Ellars.
Raoul followed behind Sarne and Ellars keeping his eyes sharp towards his guards, three all lightly armed and fairly strong-looking. “Now what would some posh noble need for major security like this at a regular festival race?”, he questioned in his mind as he stood by watching Ellars show them his mounts.
He looked immediately knowing which one he was going to pick, there was a gallant brown horse with white stripes on its feet that had a determined and serious look on its face, “That’s the one”, he thought before his trail of thought by Sarne’s question, “Yes, my name is Raoul, Raoul Ardelean. As for whether I trust this guy or not, I don’t know if something about him throws me off but I don’t have any proof of it, just a gut feeling. How about you?”.

Sarne stopped and saw a beautiful donkey a chestnut brown one. Standing some 5 and a half feet tall With a distinctive head shape and high tail carriage, the mountain donkey is one of the most easily recognizable horse breeds in the world. Not to fast, but tough thought Sarne looking at the donkey. Sarne let out a Sigh "Master Raoul, why would Lord Ellars lose riders? Not just one but at least two. Something is not right about the race. I am sure if there is this much prestige in this race I am sure people will cheat." explained Sarne as the donkey Sarne was looking at walked over to Sarne. "So be ready for anything. I would guess.
Sarne walked over to where Lord Ellars was standing. "I will take that one if you don't mind Lord Ellars. Give me a good saddle I will go look at the horse," requested Sarne with a smile. Walking back over Sarne only knew the basics or the obvious stuff about a donkey. This house looked in great heath and well taken care of. Some servants of Lord Ellars started to get the horse ready the tack they provided was of good quality as well well if something was going to go wrong it would be in style.

Raoul’s eyes sharpen as Sarne sighs and makes his concerns known, “That’s a fair point there fellow, a rich man suddenly in need of horseback riders at the last minute, picks a pair of nearby adventurers. Certainly not the least suspicious thing about this whole thing though, why would a guy like Lord Ellars be here in the first place armed to the teeth with security? I mean I’m sure you saw it when you came there are guards like everywhere here. I can bet there's some big money here, probably at least a handful of nobles, and you know when nobles are involved there's guaranteed to be ways of money making. Most likely gambling and betting on the racers”, Raoul whispers to Sarne.
After he looks once more at his chosen steed, a larger dark brown stallion with white stripes along its feet.
He then walks over to Ellars behind Sarne as he selects him and once Sarne walks over he asks in the most charming and relaxed tone he can, “I’ll be taking the brown stallion with the white striped legs”.
“Ah marvelous choice, Raoul that there's my sons favored to win, hasn’t lost a race in two years”, he waves his servants to prepare it for the race as Raoul watches on in anticipation trying his best to go over what he needs to do well in the race at least.

Sarne and Raoul ride around the Corral and stables to get used to the donkeys. The donkeys were well taken care of all the animals in the stables looked to have better lives than some commoners. This did not bother Sarne much. Sarne looked over to Raoul who seemed to be ready to. doing his last checks Sarne smiled and signaled he was ready. "Raoul, I am set heading to the line you ready?" asked Sarne heading to the gate. Riding through the gate and checking on Raoul as he went. Sarne saw two guards follow next to him and Raoul. Sarne looked them over these guys were no welp. heavy security escort thought Sarane. Something is up. Sarne looked back at Lord Ellars who gave a fake kinda wave As the two left the stables and Corral. Sarne lifted a hand in the air making a fist. Sarne opened his hand flat and then widened his fingers. He held it for a moment then lowered his hand. Sarne started at the start point of the race. It was between two hills and people were starting to crowed the area. There were a bout 20 other riders arriving and not all on horses. some where on giant cats, Wolves, birds, and other exotic animals. Now Sarne knew what they had injured riders and why Lord Ellars needed riders.
"Raoul, I hoped you are armed with something looking at the others riders you might need something to protect your self." suggested Sarne looking a round.

Raoul after waiting for a couple of minutes for the stable attendants to prepare his race steed was given full rein to try him at around the corral. He hoped on and held the reins tightly in his hands as he tried his best to get used to being atop the horse. It was difficult for the horse to keep his balance without almost falling over but thanks to his animal partner's help and directions from the attendants he was able to get it down pretty quickly in about ten or so minutes. He had never been one to ride animals himself preferring to count on something he could trust, himself for transport. As he ran some practice with the steed who he learned was named Alexandros he heard Sarne’s voice call out for his readiment.
He shouts over, “Alright, I’ll be there with you in a sec just let me finish up practicing”, and after another minute of circling the coral practicing his turns, he rode behind Sarne as he passed by. He took a final glance at Lord Ellars and politely smiled as he kept his eyes sharp for anything that would play out during the race.
He placed himself on the starting line and stretched his upper body listening to Sarne’s warning as he glanced at all the tough-looking competition before responding to his fellow racer, “I am not, I just got two whips and a fire wheel up my sleeve let’s hope that’ll be enough but most likely not”.
After talking for a bit more all the racers were called to stand on the starting line with a countdown from three and everyone rushed forth trying to get the early lead.

Realizing quickly this was no normal race. Everyone lined up. Sarne glanced around at the other racers. Most were armed with weapons of all types. then not all had horses either there were large horses with armor as well as the riders Knights of this land. Mounted Felines are giant cats of different types. Mounted giant dogs like wolves and Mounted birds are giant birds the type that don't fly but run with large sharp beaks and talons.
Sarne chuckles looking at Raoul "We were fooled, not that I did not have an idea what I was getting into." stated Sarne looking around. some were staring at Sarne realizing he might be a problem. More were looking over Raoul with some ill intention in their eyes maybe thinking easy pray.
Noble women walked out onto a platform with guards on either side of her. She had a standard she raised into the air. A Lord walked out onto the platform. "Welcome! Racers to the contest of the planes. My speed and luck be with you all! Let not have anyone die this time." The man yelled. The crowd laughed at what the noble said.
Sarne knew things were not going to be easy if he even made it to the finish line. They had been told when the Princess dropped the standard the race began.
Everyone ready themselves as the Princess stepped to the edge of the platform. She raised the standard a little higher as all including the animals got restless. She dropped the standard holding it out in front of her. and everyone took off at a sprint.
Sarne let some go in front of him allowing him to have some space to maneuver. Sarne figured there would be no cheating just yet until they could not see the crowds anymore. Then it would begin to get ruff.

Raoul chuckled nervously as he looked around thinking, “Crap, we’ve been set up, fooled even, no wonder Ellars was so keen on us racing, he probably has some dark horse here and is using it as some sort of fuel or food for their victory”.
He nodded at Sarne’s judgment and said, “Yeah we got tricked, although I did have some suspicion I didn’t think the race itself would be the way we’d get duped”.
After staring at the woman who came out and his eyes widening as she mentioned previous dying he became slightly more concerned, “Dying?”, he whispered in a worried tone.
Raoul sped off as the alarm rang to start, he wanted to at least make it some far distance enough to get away from the middle where he’d assumed most of the blood carnage would happen. Thankfully he’d made it to a decent place having about five people ahead of him. He turned back for a second to look where Sarne had gone and that was his first mistake as he heard yelling and saw somebody cast an electric spell. He snapped his reins for his steed to go faster and thankfully because of that, he was able to miss the blast radius of the lightning spell.
“Sorry friend Sarne, I just have to have faith in you that you can make it through if I worry about you, I’ll most likely lose”, he whispers as he continues forth.

Sarne saw the energy build as bolts of lightning shot out He knew the spell Lightning Field Sarne also just got out of the way of a bolt of lightning. as he pulled his donkey left nest to the edge of the trail.
Others were not so lucky three got hit by the random lighting. they fell to the ground paralyzed and their mounts stopped trying to shake it off. That was one cat rider, a wolf rider, and a bird rider out of the race. Sarne found that odd that no horses or donkeys were hit.
pushing in on the donkey Sarne drew his sword and had his donkey sprint forward as fast as the donkey could muster. The race was half over and some started to make their moves and riders were going down as they battled. Sarne would be no different as he got close to the rider that cast the magic lighting. To the rider's surprise as he cast his spell and it started to leap out from his finger another lighting bolt formed. With a swipe of Sarne's sword, the spell disappeared.
The rider's eyes widened as Sarne turned his blade sideways he did not want to kill the rider but take him out of the race. With one heavy swing, the Rider flew off his horse crashing into a tree. Sarne looked ahead three riders one of them being Raoul.
"You better win Raoul," Sane yelled. He glanced behind him to see that the other riders were thinking out there were three now one horse rider and two bird riders. Sarne let out a loud laugh that could be heard in the woods. around them. Sarne raised his hand in the air with the race almost one. Sarne had nothing to lose.
Sarne turned his horse to face the other riders behind him. Charging into the group and crashing into them riders flew everywhere the animals running in all directions. Sarne looked up at the sky he probably had broken ribs and a bruised ego but that was one hell of a ride. He could hear the cheers of the crowd the race was over. Sarne just hoped Raoul wins the race.

“Strange”, Raoul thought to himself as he glanced behind him at the fallen riders, “There are no horse riders that were hit? Could that possibly on purpose?”.
He quickly whipped his head forth as he saw a rider charging at him from behind trying to ram into him with her giant wolf. He turned back to see their mount open its wide jaws to try to bite his own mount so quickly in panicked he does a fast maneuver. He quickly grabbed the reins and pulled them to the left to let him pass by. Raoul was weak in comparison to Sarne and could only take a couple of hits before he’d be knocked out of this race. He was currently in third behind a small gnome fellow riding an eel horse followed up by a dark elf woman riding atop of a giant wolf who pushed Raoul aside earlier for second place.
He hears Sarne’s words of encouragement and grins, “I’ll try my best friend no promise of victory”.
He snaps the reins on his steed to go faster and manages to increase his pace to be neck and neck with second place, she quickly gets annoyed and pulls out a long spear made of bone.

Sarne sat up to see the other riders not looking too happy with him Sarne just gave them a wicked smile. standing slowly to his feet sane knew he could not take all of them on and some of the other animals were coming back sane was good at combat but not that good. Sarne heard the donkey come up behind him. He turned to the donkey, which seemed unharmed somehow. Sarne looked back at the others "Know we are out of the race But I think I will finish." Sarne commented, "Since there seems to be no rules." Sarne raised his gold sword into the air and lowered it toward the three. " Shadow Wolves show your strength." A man, dwarf, and woman came from the shadows. Their fighting knives bust into Flames as they attack. Sarne's Sigil starts to glow as fear and pending doom can be felt. The other rider's eyes widened and the fear could be seen on their face they turned to see a man, dwarf, and woman coming at them. They start to run into Sarne's retainers. In the confusion, Sarne got back on the donkey and painfully rode off toward the finish line. The donkey ran as fast as it could. Weaving on and out of trees. Sarne could see the finish line. He was the last one there.

Raoul grits his teeth as he feels the spear enter his abdomen almost screams in pain but pushes past it and quickly takes it out of himself throwing it at the wolf woman causing her to shriek as it enters her shoulder she immediately stops in anger. He smiles through the pain as he catches up to first neck and neck with the eel-riding gnome. Raoul had a single thing he could do at this moment, he wasn’t strong, not at all. In a physical fight he’d lose against probably anyone he wasn’t a fighter by nature. He always had to use his mind and wit to overcome challenges; this was no exception.
He raises his shimmering scorpion blade in the air facing towards the name and twists its handle, flashing the sunlight into the gnome's eyes. This immediately caused him to slam to stop and block his eyes. This was enough of a distraction for the dhampir as he and his steed dashed forth and quickly passed through the finish line.
He smiles, gets off his steed, and gets surrounded by Lord Ellars, Sarne, and others congratulating him for his performance. He quickly rips off his sleeve from his shirt to patch his abdomen stab wound. He is quickly compensated for winning and after some more chit-chat, the race is over.
He makes his way to Sarne and thanks him, “Thank you my friend without you taking on all of the other people I won. Here take half of the reward. It was a pleasure meeting you. I hope to see you again”, he then leaves with his reward and goes to the nearest physician to look at his wound.
