Another day, another boring Court meeting in Dragon’s Cradle. At this point, Astrid has been to a few of these. Her favorites are the ones that Mizzi attends but Baan can’t make for one reason or another. The old dwarf has a stick or ten up his rear, and he really rubs Astrid the wrong way. She can’t guarantee she won’t do something slightly stupid without Wolfe around today. Either way, things proceed as normal. Count Thadda goes over a few concerns for the region, including some information he has from the Capitol since he was recently voted to be the Cradle’s liaison between the two, barring the Baron isn’t able to do that. They discuss simple things and various issues like taxes, the refugees from the Ashlands, and the clean up efforts that Astrid and Wolfe made after an Ur-Beast ripped through a village in the west. When it comes time to discuss some of the new issues, Astrid finally starts to really pay attention. Problems means there are things to do, and usually that means that she and Wolfe will go out and help with them. On top of that, she notices a few new faces in attendance, some of whom are locals interested in the goings on, which Thadda allows from time to time. She decides that once things are adjourned, she might go meet them.
Quest details Quest Name: Time for Court Participants: Requires exactly two people (you and one other, if the other participant does not qualify, they will not gain the reward) Location: Anywhere (Can be repeated for a different region) Post Requirements: 5 post per person, 200 words per post Reward: +10 Security for selected Region (+10 more if your home region) Description: The most boring part of politics is, well, the politics. While most people like helping by being out in the field, it is just as important to attend court. Now as a notable member of your region, people value your opinion, giving you the chance to speak for the higher ups of the region. You can detail this however you like, attending a session of court, sitting on a council or making a speech at a dinner party. You are free to explore your creativity with this one.

It's a very unpopular opinion, but listening to the court dealing and opinions of the nobles was always something interesting and fun to me. Even the old things, like the alliance or refugees, was something I adamantly paid attention to. To me, any free information is something invaluable. They only price is time to listen and absorb all it could include. Find the patterns that could lead to the recent events and so called chaos that others leave to chance and luck. It was very intriguing to me and held my attention the entire time, all till the newer problems started to be listed. From there my attention was split, connecting my theories to the actual events, splinting my thought between listening and personally organizing my thoughts and reactions to such events. After all, few people want pure facts in this business. Plans and educated guesses over events are what most want, so that's what I give. There have been times, though rare as they are, that they mentioned nobles and their names for achievements, which at one point they made not of a young looking girl, Lady Astrid my mind supplied, for taking down a Ur-Beast. I mentally made note of it just as all other information given out. Outside the hall lay where my friends are. Nit just sits in boredom at the long wait for me to come out. All the while, Rosemary would be her normally chaotic self, trying to entertain him while the wait happens. These things can range from rambling questions to his to learn more or just straight up using water magic to make water drops and flick them into his face. Yep, complete calm for them as well.

When the proceedings of the Court finally conclude, people stand up and stretch their legs and backs. Thadda is not an extravagant man, and the seats are only mildly more comfortable than the average tavern chair. Unlike Baan, Thadda finds he has better things to spend taxpayer coin on.
Astrid, like the others, stands and stretches, though even with her hands in the air, she comes nowhere near the size of most grown adults save the local dwarves, which aren’t too much taller than her. A few people come over and offer thanks and congratulations for her continued hard work throughout the region. She offers friendly smiles and firm handshakes until most people drift away, and Thadda approaches.
“Good evening, Lady Stormstone,” he says with a friendly smile. “Glad to see you were able to make it, though it’s a shame Lord Wolfe couldn’t be present.”
“‘Evenin’, Count,” Astrid says. “Aye, I’m sure they’ll be back sometime.” Thadda looks like he wants something, so she just asks outright. “So what’ve ya got fer me ta work on this time?”
The Count laughs a little. “Well, if Wolfe isn't around, then that works out well. There’s actually another young up-and-coming adventuring type that I’d like you to work with if you don’t mind. She’s in attendance today. Come along.” With that, Thadda looks around then makes his way toward a newer face in the Court but not necessarily to Sky Peak. “Hello, if I’ve got my information correct, you are Miss Keyke, no? If so, I’d like you to meet Lady Astrid Stormstone here. I hear you’re capable of holding your own, so if you’re willing, I’d like you two to work on solving a problem together.”
Astrid looks past Thadda at this Keyke. She looks pretty young. Maybe older than Astrid, but Astrid knows that looks are deceiving. “Nice ta meet ya,” she says, offering a hand clad in a gauntlet for her to shake. Somehow this girl has incorporated half a set of armor into her courtly attire.

It doesn't take much to move the people in the guest section out. Most do it willingly, as if they were forced to be here the entire time. On the other hand, I take my time, and not by stretching, as many others are doing, but by checking my belongings. I lean down to get my doll-pack, only to find the Count and Lady Astrid making their way towards the section I am currently in. This gives me two warning signs, either there is someone in trouble or something has gone wrong, after all, it's well known that the Count is blunt and confrontational about leading and Astrid is not one of the Heroes of Dragon's Cradle for nothing.
With that in mind, I finish placing it on my bag and hook my parasol onto my arm. Just as I was leaving the Count speaks to me. My previous theories ran in my head and I could only hope it was not something that had been found out under either of my aliases. I keep a smile on my face, though allow my confusion to show through my eyes at the question of my name, though I remain silent till he finishes. I slowly bow my head to them, "Yes, I am Keyke." Raising my head I find Lady Astrid holding out her hand and using a casual manner of speaking to me. After many of my travels around the place, I seem to often mistake that not all nobles are not tradition oriented. I quickly follow her lead and shake her hand. Letting my smile break from its sitting place and spread to something more bright and genuine. I give a little giggle, "Sorry about that," from there I release her armored hand and tilt my head to the Count, "What kind of puzzle needs solving?"

With introductions out of the way, Thadda gives a little nod, his twisted lochs of black hair floating slightly with the movement. “Well met,” he says simply enough. Continuing, Thadda explains, “I need the kind of puzzle solved that trusted faces would be best to solve. We spoke of it briefly during this session, but I suspect it’s a bit more than it seems. There is a village southeast of here, across The Wastes and in the foothills of the mountains that border the Ashlands. That area has been poorly affected by the volcanic activity in the area, but something tells me that the sickness and death ravaging the village aren’t just from some ash on the fields.”
Thadda looks between the two young girls before him, one an accomplished adventuring noble and the other steadily making a name for herself, and a layer of confidence paints his expression. “I’d like the two of you to take a look into it and report back what you find. Solve the problem if you have the means. We’ll send some supplies after you. I don’t want a caravan slowing you down if it turns out to be major.”

After the briefing of the adventure ahead, I look up, noticing the confidence spread along his face when looking at us. I make note of this hopeful expression before speaking up. "Alright, that is suitable, I think, in terms of how to handle things. I can easily guide us in a quick path through the fields to reach there at quick speeds." I pause for a moment, I look around the room to observe the on-lookers, then look back at the two. "I would be ready to leave at any time, just give me a fair warning." I twiddle with the parasol, spinning it as I think about the possibilities that are to come.
A realization hit me as I contemplate the traveling, my friend and pixie could be of use helping with the ashes and whatever troubling problem could be inflicting the village. I look up to Lady Astrid, tilting my head while still spinning the umbrella around. "I do have a few companions that would be helpful with this ordeal if you don't mind, could I signal them to follow us across the field?" I give a small smile, glancing outside to where they are hanging out, waiting for a signal from me.

Astrid listens carefully while Thadda gives them a rundown of the situation, and she nods along. It all seems simple enough. There’s a problem, and they need to solve it. Easy peasy. She’s never met this Keyke person before, so this is going to be a new kind of adventure. Occasionally, Astrid meets new people in her travels, and she’s always excited to make new friends. What isn’t so common is running into others who seem so young. Maybe they’ll have plenty of stuff to talk about!
“Aye, I can be ready ta go pretty soon,” Astrid agrees. “I just gotta run home an’ get me stuff an’ let me da know I’ll be goin’ fer a bit.” She looks to Keyke at the mention of her companions. “Aye, I don’t mind anyone ya bring along. I’ll be bringin’ a couple of critters meself.” Astrid is of course talking about her flaming hound amongst other companions that are useful to various degrees, but they’re also just nice to have around as loyal pets.
“I’m happy ta meet ‘em if they’re around!” she says, following Keyke's glance toward the exit.

With a quick nod, I switch my glance to Count Thadda, noting the pleasure at our agreeableness and capability in basic conversation. In which case, I agree, having Lady Astrid readily agree to meet my companions and even bring her own. I visibly perk up at the mention of critters, my mind searching and trying to supply the different combinations of what could happen based on her personality. However, it mainly tried to determine who or what could join us with her attack style.
I shift my attention back to Lady Astrid, allowing my excitement over what's to come to rock my feet, "That sounds amazing! I can't wait to meet your companions!" I pause momentarily as I point to the door I had been glancing at. "They are outside as they find meetings to be tedious. Especially Rosemary," I wave my hand, "Best you meet them before anything else." I tap my chin, going through possible ways to summarize how I got a noble hero and a job assigned directly from the Count without prior warning. My finger keeps tapping before I realize what I need to do. I stop rocking and lower myself into a bow at the Count, "Thank you for this opportunity." I rise up and rotate my parasol to help me face the exit closest to my friends without hitting anyone or anything.
With a smile back at Astrid do a light skip forward, "Follow me to meet them!" I release a light giggle from the thought of their faces over what is happening this time.
The two of them were worried, and that was something reasonable when their closest friend has not come out of the courts. Crowds and crowds exited, but none of them was their monochrome bean of chaos. With my track record of who I meet and how, they know to expect the inevitable. As I am a part of the underworld, I was bound to make contacts, but something, this feeling weighing on their minds, hinted that this wasn't something even among their norms.

It is to Count Thadda’s great pleasure that the two young adventurers accept his request for them to look into the suffering village. He of course had no doubts that Astrid would agree to it, partner or not, but giving an up-and-coming citizen an opportunity to prove themselves is exactly how Dragon’s Cradle has become one of the safest places in Charon. If anyone seeks to undo their work then they must redouble their efforts.
With a smile, Thadda says, “I’m glad to hear you’re both enthusiastic about this. Report back to me with any findings, and I’ll be sure to send additional supplies. Safe travels.”
Astrid gives Thadda a dramatic curtsy with a goofy grin plastered on her freckled face then quickly follows Keyke outside to meet her companions. The half-dwarf quite likes making new friends, and few others in the adventuring business seem to be around her same age. Plenty of questions swirl through Astrid’s mind, but she can save those for the long journey ahead of them. Stepping outside behind the parasol-carrying girl, Astrid spots a couple of anxious-looking and unfamiliar individuals waiting for things inside to wrap up. She offers them a wave though waits for Keyke to confirm whether or not these are her companions.

Seeing Nit so worried was ordinary at this point; Rosemary, on the other hand, was much less to let emotions like that show. It would be a logical conclusion to say that she had been feeding off the emitting emotions from Nit, something I should probably stop. Seeing Lady Astrid waving at the pair, I smiled and waved to them. My unique appearance gave them a quick way to find me. They started to race my way before seeing Lady Astrid. Seeing the shocked face on Nit's will never be old when I somehow pull these encounters and need to introduce him to the new people.
The shock was not something to be missed by even those not watching him. The full sprint to me, paired with shock, caused him to catch his foot on a small pebble and topple to the ground. Rosemary luckily did not fester this shock, as she quickly flew to me and gave a light bow to Lady Astrid before landing on my bonnet to sit. The sight above would be funny, with the small ribbons rearranging to make a comfy seat. I gave no reaction to Rosemary other than eye contact and a nod before she flew up. Once she knocked on my hat, I started to tilt my head downward to Nit; I crouched down to lower a bit at his level.
With a smile and a light giggle, I tilt my head to Lady Astrid. "This is Nitin," I hold my hand out for him to get up, "And on my head is Rosemary." She gives a little wave. Nitin reached and grabbed my hand before getting up neatly, brushing off his clothes to fix how they looked. I turn fully to Astrid, "These are my friends, though, they aren't used to me bringing nobility with me." I scratch my chin with secondhand embarrassment, my smile turning slightly tight to follow along with it.

It’s not that Astrid tries particularly hard to stand out, it’s just that she dresses very true to her nature: fully armored no matter the circumstances. Being a twelve-year-old decked out in full armor, she’s gotten quite used to people being surprised by her appearance. Well, that on top of the horns on her head. She’s a bit unusual, and at this point, she’s fully accepted that some people might not exactly expect much out of her. That’s alright though; she loves proving people wrong.
Looking between Nitin and Rosemary, Astrid grins, offering Nitin a handshake and Rosemary a… pointer finger shake. “Nice ta meet ya both,” she says in a friendly tone. “Me name’s Astrid Stormstone.” Notably, Astrid does not often use her title, usually because she forgets it unless it’s pertinent or a moment of spite. “Seems like we’ll all be travelin’ together here soon. I’ve got ta run home an’ get me stuff, so I’ll meet ya by the gates later. Sound good?” She looks to Keyke for confirmation and a nod.
“See ya soon!” Then she disappears in a blur of movement, dashing through the streets at inhuman speed, pausing briefly some way up the hill, then becoming a blur of motion again as she rushes home.

I did take notice of her lack of introduction with her title, hinting at multiple options based only on the personality she presents and age. I elect to ignore this to move along to do our assigned task. With introductions out of the way, I gave Astrid a firm nod, "Sounds good to me; go grab your gear and we'll see each other soon."
With speed that made her blur, Astrid was gone. I turn to Nit and start laughing at the perplexed face he showed at the spot where Astid just was. "What have you done now?" The question only helped bring out more laughter until I finally collected myself. "Ahem," I clear my throat, "We got a job~" Nit only face palmed at the news. "I figured that much; what kind of job?" I walk forward with the group, "Investigation, requested by Count Thadda, on a village that doesn't look too good." I gaze up to the sky, "I'll brief you on everything on the way." While looking to be slow due to their walking, the group had taken a calculative route to the gates that would be quicker than free running.
