“Well, I can’t say anything on the art of ninjutsu…” Cyran rubbed at the back of his neck. He’d not trained in the Crescent Isles when honing his skills, but there was no harm in teaching Javal a bit of what he knew. “Though I could teach you a bit of stealth if you’d like, but only if you promise to teach me a bit of your swordsmanship in turn. I’m hardly a good teacher if I can’t learn from others as well.”
But that would come later.
Oriole managed a small laugh at Javal’s words of encouragement. It was a bit of a strange complement, but somehow, it served to reassure him. He held his hand out to the real Javal, putting on a smile that seemed full of forced confidence and bravado. In his best imitation of Javal’s voice and inflection, he said, “Then I’ll just have to go in there and show those evildoers who’s boss! … How was that?”
And then, he slipped into the darkness, Cyran’s belt and Javal’s kind words guiding his way.
Cyran, meanwhile, mulled over Javal’s question. On one hand, it was his first instinct to be stealthy and gather information before they launched their assault, but he wasn’t sure how much time they had. “I think, for now, we should make our way to the spires. It won’t take long for us to find our mark, thanks to Raoul’s and Andromeda’s intel.” And then he would kill them so Javal’s hands weren’t stained. “I don’t want to leave Oriole alone for long, and the longer we wait the more opportunities we give the calamity to find us first. We need to strike fast, and strike hard, and hit him at his vulnerable point.”
That seemed the best option they had right now.
And with the decision made, the group started making the silent trek through Skypeak under the veil of moonlight.

Javal’s eyes sparkle thinking of all the cool stealthy ninja skills he could do with Cyran’s training, he could be as cool and stealthy as old man Nishiki back in Thorock.
He then suddenly thought about Cyran’s deal he excitedly responded, “But of course, Cyran I can teach you everything there is to know about my swordsmanship, my sensei Sir Emeraldcutter taught me well enough to teach others. We have to do this right away once we’re done with this, that is if we live of course”.
He rose his hand and put it in a fist and gave Oriole's outstretched hand a fist bump and with a large encouraging smile on his face he said, “That was perfect just perfect just steal your body and calm your soul and you can do anything in this world, now go show them how we Javals do it".
Javal nodded at Cyran’s suggestion to head towards the spire and siege it at once, Javal slowly and steadily followed behind the group acting as their shield in case anything behind them attacked them. Another reason for this of course was Javal’s inexperience with traversing rooftops silently and stealthy. The last time he was on a rooftop was on his adventure with Owl Fanatic Arlette Noir when he skated across and tackled a thief.
Nadia ran silently ahead of her liege being accustomed to such stealthy and speedy maneuvers herself.

Cyran perked up in interest at the mention of Javal’s own master. Javal spoke little about where he’d learned how to fight, but it was something Cyran had never particularly questioned. He himself had been self-taught - all the knowledge he’d acquired on bladesmanship, he’d crammed into his own head from studying medical texts and observing real combat from the shadows. It had never occurred to him that Javal might have a sensei out there somewhere, a master from the Crescent Isles from the sound of it. Interesting, that he knew an inordinate number of people who’d learned their trade from the small island country.
Perhaps it was a sign.
“I’d like that.” One was never too old to learn, after all. He rotated his shoulder one more time, shrugging off the last vestiges of the poison so he would be in as much fighting form as he was going to be, slinging an arm over Javal’s shoulder reassuringly. “And it’s going to be okay.” A promise he wasn’t sure he could keep, but one he would make anyways. At the very least, Cyran intended to make sure that Javal and Nadia would be spared. Not that he intended to die himself, mind. For once in his life Cyran had things to live for, people to reunite with when all was said and done here. But at the end of the day, Cyran had lived a long life. And it was his duty - his honor - to ensure that those who hadn’t yet blossomed into their own had the chance to do so.
They took on a sort of order as they made their way towards the spires Andromeda had found, Cyran leading the pack with his own student trailing not far behind, finger-signing directions to him to guide his way. It was unsurprising that Nadia seemed more naturally stealthy than her master - she moved with an elf’s grace and fluidity. Javal stuck to his strengths and held the back line, protecting them from any threats. It was a formation that worked for them, allowing Cyran to set a decently fast pace all the way to the spire.
It took them a couple of hours of tense, silent travel. Everyone had their mind on the mission, of what they might find when they arrived. However, as their surroundings began to thin out to make way for open flatlands and the sun began to peek over the horizon, everything seemed… mundane.
A few draconynh in robes were ambling about, setting out what looked like artificial rods constructed with arcanometallic materials. Cyran vaguely recognized them. Enchanted rods meant to attract lightning. As was common in Skypeak, clouds were already brewing overhead, rumbling thunder promised a storm in the coming hours. Those rods would see no shortage of sky fire today.
But no sign of a priest, or anyone that might otherwise be an ancient feline demon in disguise. Perhaps he would be holding a sermon in the storm? That might pose an ideal time for them to strike… he would be surrounded by manic followers but they’d have the certainty of knowing they could dethrone him here and now. Cyran turned to Javal and explained his thoughts.
“I’m better with ambush tactics than outright fighting, but we need to play to our strengths. I’ll follow your lead.”

Javal smiled hearing that Cyran was indeed interested in one day learning from each other.
He grinned weakly trying to keep Cyran’s words in his head as they continued on but still felt some guilt and potential fear about letting them all down. This was supposed to be it if Javal and Cyran failed it would mean a lot more than just some silly sheep it would mean hundreds of people would be mind controlled and slowly it would spread throughout Charon.
Javal almost fell off the roof a couple of tops but overall the group managed to make it to their destination.
As the group proceeded on Nadia felt unnerved seeing under them that everything seemed so normal and mundane.
Javal and the group hid above the strange lightning-based ritual, he whispers to Cyran, “I have a plan I’ll draw them out take down the guys in robes, and get the attention from all the bad guys you, Andromeda, and Nadia support from the air and strike when the moments right”.
Javal then jumps down to the floor with a wide grin on his face, “Hello there mad fiends I Javal am here to stop you from destroying this village here and now”.

Cyran nodded along until Javal announced that he would be taking on these robed figures right here and now. “Wait, what?” He asked, but Javal had already dove for them, before Cyran could ask if he was serious. From where they were hidden, Cyran very gently resisted the urge to rest his face in his hands in exasperation. Andromeda, on the other hand, had no such reserves.
“Is he trying to get us killed by bringing attention to us?” His apprentice whispered, voice harsh as she grabbed two throwing daggers from the arsenal strapped to her belt - one in each hand. Cyran, on the other hand, raised his arm, a miasma of dark energy gathering at his fingertips to provide support from afar.
“My best guess is that he’s trying to think their numbers out to draw out their leader in the commotion.” He murmured.
Meanwhile, as Javal so plainly announced his intentions with his usual brand of honesty, the triage of robed draconynh exchanged bewildered glances. For a moment, it seemed like they didn’t understand that they were being provoked, much less why. It is difficult for an outsider to know exactly what kind of information has been used within an occult setting to brainwash the members within. Difficult to know if they believe they are doing harm or good. But one thing was for certain. If these men were going to stand in Javal and Cyran’s way in defense of their leader, then there was no other way about it. They had to go.
One of the draconynh waved their hand. “Oh, you misunderstand what our purpose is here, sir. We’re not here to destroy Skypeak village. We simply wish to restore it to its primal glory. No rules, no authority. Only the will of the storm in its most wild state.”
“If you’re so curious, you’re welcome to sit in on a sermon. Perhaps then you will understand. Mother will be here soon for the morning rituals. You will see the eye of the storm, and you will know her design. She has big plans for the betterment of Skypeak.”
“Trust me.” The third draconynh chimed in. “Her grip on the crowd is electric.”

Nadia sighed and ran her hand across her face in irritation but to be honest she expected something like this from her liege.
Javal smiled as he listened to the draconynh cultists and responded, “Well all that seems fine and dandy, and on any other day I would’ve believed you but you tried killing me and that’s enough for me to defeat you”.
He charged at the cultists and once he reached the three in close range he fainted a sword swing and instead mid way he opened his mouth sending a large cone of ice breath attempting to freeze the cultists.
It appears he was able to catch two of them but the third dodged at the last minute he fervently says, “It’s no use my friend no matter how much you fight it you will join the hive mind whether you like it or not. Just surrender now and you’ll save yourself the heartbreak”, he says this as a tear comes out from his right eye.
He shakes his head it’s never too late to seek justice and hits the man with the back of his sword he then rushes over to the strange contraption that the cultists were building and starts smashing it about with his katana.

Cyran pursed his lips, listening from the shadows as Javal and the cultists spoke. The cultists tried to sway him with lofty words, but against someone with such a strong moral compass, they may as well have been talking to a brick wall. Javal opened his mouth and let out a flurry of ice and snow, a contained blizzard, that froze two of the robed draconynh, who weren’t able to jump out of the way in time. The third offered Javal a wicked smile, pupils slit with the fervency of a madman who was convinced of every word. Javal ignored his provocations, whacking the cultist with his sword and dashing past him towards the arcane offering they’d been setting up. The cultist whirled on him, desperate to stop him from destroying their hard work.
“Oh, no, you don’t!”
But Cyran and Andromeda got there first.
One knife, embedded square in the back of the cultist’s neck with pinpoint accuracy, a bullseye right at the spinal cord in a burst of holy magic and frost.[1] Perhaps if they were fighting any regular human the blade would have gone straight through the back of the neck to the front, but the draconynh’s scales protected them from harm. The second knife, on the other hand, hit the first in the exact same spot, the force from the blade’s blow forcing the first even deeper into the wound. The draconynh let out a choked gurgle, whirling around to face the invisible threat. That was when the Specter stepped from the shadows, dark, rotting magic sparking at his fingertips that he fired directly at the draconynh’s open, shocked mouth.[2]
The three bodies lay around them in various states of disarray. Cyran turned to Javal, who had destroyed the strange contraption. “Come on. I don’t know how much time we have left before their leader shows up. Start smashing all of those you can see - perhaps it will disrupt their ritual.”
The storm was brewing around them, and Cyran could feel the ozone crackling in the air. With one last look at Javal, Cyran disappeared into the shadows again, determined to destroy as many conduits as he could before the calamity could arrive and carry out whatever insane machinations she had planned. 1. Throwing knives - Andromeda (Ice damage, holy damage) 2. Chaos Bolt

Javal continued smashing the strange contraption that the Draconynh cultists were working on earlier. He stopped until the whole thing was unrecognizable they had to destroy as many of these things as they could find. Perhaps this lord of chaos was using them as some sort of power-up device to increase their power. Javal sent Nadia to search around the area as he continued to smash the machine into smithereens she comes back confirming that there are two other of these same strange contraptions.
Javal sprints over to where she found one and rushes to destroy it without a single thought. He slashes it over and over it until it is destroyed and it seems no one was there guarding this one.
Javal walks back over to where they were earlier to think of what the group should do next.
Suddenly an elderly-looking human man appears walking over to greet the group, “Hello there youngsters there seems to be a grave misunderstanding here we are not villains or fiends just members of the new church. I beg you to stop destroying sacred prayer structures and just hear us out perhaps join in on a sermon”.
Javal waves him off and says earnestly, “Don’t worry about any of this sir you are being brainwashed please just leave and carry on with your day. We’re trying to help you and the people of Skypeak here from a dark and terrible fate that may spread all across Charon”.
Suddenly the wrinkly kind looking face of the old man shifts into a strangely contorted grin as a strange and eerie loud booming female voice comes out, “I think it’s already too late to save you, sinners, just sit back and let me dispose of trash like you who won’t fit in my utopia”, the area around the group begins to shake and the air begins to crackle.

While Javal was taking care of another one of the devices, Cyran and Andromeda were searching another side of the rocky plane - when they found another one of these arcane contraptions partially melted into one of the spires. They looked like twisted bits of metal, almost like jagged tree trunks without branches or leaves. This one smelled like smoke… almost as if it had been partially destroyed already. Cyran raised his hand, shadows growing along his hand and morphing into long, jagged claws, his hand as dark as pitch. A miasma of dark magic pulsed around his arm, as silent and grim as the night - and with a single movement Cyran slashed through the device like it was butter, cutting it into nothing.[1] Darkness spread around the edges like an infection as the pieces fell to his feet. Cyran looked down at his palm, willing the shadows to dissipate. Stubbornly, they remained.
Cyran frowned. Rarely was he so tired that he could not control the shadows, especially when they wanted to play with him. But he’d been using so much of his magic the past few days that he had stretched himself too thin, until he was nothing more than stardust and ash, a ghost of a person inhabiting a body. And the shadows would claim him if he wasn’t careful.
Cyran bit his lip, shoving his hand in his pocket before jogging back to Javal. He could handle this. He just had to be careful about casting any more spells.
Though based on the sight of the cultist approaching them under the amicable guise of an old churchgoer, Cyran had a feeling that wouldn’t be the case. And Javal, kind Javal. Still thought these people could be saved. He didn’t know how deeply the brainwashing from the cult ran. That these people would die for their mother, their cause, their god. The cultist let out a mad laugh, raising his hands into the air as he summoned lightning. A bolt that seemed to be aimed straight for Javal.
“No!” Cyran clenched his fist in a sudden movement, manipulating the very darkness in the air around them until everything went still and silent - and the lightning bolt disappeared at the same time it could strike the fellblood.[2] At the same time, Andromeda threw another dagger, nailing him in the side of the torso. Not hitting any vital organs, but drawing enough blood to sting. Her dragon, Calliope, fluttered through the air, getting close enough to blow a puff of ice-cold air up one of his legs. 1. Javal could barely react before seeing a loud flash appear and disappear before him, with him only able to raise his hands to try to block himself. He lowered his hands only to reveal nothing was there only an injured old man who fell to his knees holding his torso. Javal looked up seeing a large dragon excited to see that the group had air support against this new threat.
Javal was about to close in on the old man before suddenly the entire area began shaking, rumbling, and cackling.
The old man suddenly rose from the ground and hovering in the air a huge grin appearing on his face the strange booming feminine voice coming from the man’s grin, “Well then it appears it is finally time to purge the sinners and finally expand my business. I heard what you did to my brother back in Moonglade and I can promise you that you’ll find me much much harder to kill than him after all he was just a hermit goat while I am a shining queen of thunder”,
The old man then drops to the floor and suddenly his back opens summoning a huge thundering feline figure armed who picks up the Draconian bodies and eats them summoning armor, a spear, and a shield.

Cyran brought Spell Slicer and Cold Steel to his hands, preparing for another fight - but the voice that came out of the cultist’s mouth next was not the same one that he’s first spoken with. Nor did it entirely belong to a mortal. The hair on the back of his neck stood on end in anticipation, dread building in his stomach as he remembered how it had felt to fight the herder back in Moonglade. Even more startling was that this woman - the Calamity of lightning, herald of the storm - had been anticipating them.
Cyran pursed his lips, purging the anxiety in favor of grim determination. He remembered Raoul’s words, and what he needed to do here. It was entirely fortunate that killing things was his profession, and he was rather experienced at what he did.
The elderly man’s skin seemed to peel away, revealing a hulking, bipedal feline figure that quickly consumed the corpses they’d left behind. Armor of light shimmered in the air before solidifying, shapes in the metal plates that resembled Lichtenberg lines. A spear manifested in her hand that she raised in the air, regarding the four that dare defied her divine will. No more words exchanged, no more idle threats. It was life or death.
“Let’s see… you.” Her lips, or what serviced for them, curled into a smile as she honed in on Andromeda, before whipping her spear at the young assassin that had managed to land a blow on her. An eye for an eye. Cyran darted, arm whipping out to grab the wooden shaft of the spear before it could strike her neck - electricity crackled from the weapon, traveling up his arms and forcing him to grimace in pain and drop the weapon as his arm went numb.[1]
“Stick to the shadows!” He ordered. Andromeda nodded, not wanting to argue - the assassin grabbed a knife in each hand, aiming them straight for the calamity’s eyes in an attempt to blind her. The calamity flicked her hand and the wind picked up, sending the blades veering off course.
“Pathetic. You’re going to have to try much harder than that.” She held her arm out, the spear disappearing from where Cyran had dropped it and reappearing in her hand. Cyran grit his teeth, shaking the numbness out of his arm to no avail. Oh, well. If he couldn’t use his limbs right now, his magic would have to suffice. Cyran met the tiger’s gaze head on, his shadow growing and coalescing into a large, spectral creature that took flight - a beast of pure umbral darkness that fluttered around him, opening its mouth and blasting off a powerful bolt of dark energy at the demon.[2] 1. Javal raises his sword into the air ready to begin the group’s final battle against the calamity of lightning; he glares upward at the new threat.
Nadia ran alongside Andromeda giving her cover fire with her ray bow against the calamity to keep her from attacking. She was determined to provide Cyran and her liege some ranged support while they fought the fiend up close and personal.
The demon raised its shield blocking the dark bolt and sending her spear into the dark elemental.
Javal runs into the fiend charging forward raising his sword and then slashing it downwards hoping to hit the beast’s foot before getting kicked in the chest sending the swordsmen flying.
He lands on the floor and quickly gets himself up. He then thinks for a quick second before raising his free hand while his other is holding his katana.
The ground around the demon changes from dirt (1) and grass into a beautiful single-room house. The beast was about to crash through the door before Javal held his arm out and summoned another room for it to stay trapped in.
Javal yells over at Cyran, “Cyran I can hold it off for another room here's a chance for us to gain the advantage”. 1. Druids Hut

Andromeda offered Nadia a terse nod for watching her back, preparing another onslaught of knives from behind the safety of one of the nearest spires. She would do what she did best - sticking to the back lines and allowing her teacher and his friend to take care of things from close up. As she watched, though, the Calamity parried with Cyran’s shadowspawn, swiping through it with her spear in an attempt to dissipate it. It dodged nimbly through the air, firing a few more bolts of chaos to hold her attention while Javal charged at her.
But in one swift movement, the tigress pierced the shadow bat straight through its open mouth, the construct dissipating like smoke. In the same fluid movement she whirled around and kicked Javal out of the air before he could land an attack. But Javal wasn’t done. He raised his hand, the earth around the Calamity shaking before closing her in a hut, effectively trapping her. It wouldn’t last for long - not more than a few seconds. Cyran caught his breath and wiped a bead of sweat off his brow, shrugging off his jacket and letting it flutter to the ground. The damp heat, humidity and the call of the summer storm, was beginning to drag him down.
He twirled his daggers in his hands, turning to Javal and hoping he didn’t look so exhausted as the fight was only just beginning. “Pincer attack.” He called, hoping Javal would understand what he was implying. “You take the front and I’ll strike from behind.” He didn’t wait for confirmation before breaking out in a dead sprint as the tigress ripped through the material of the home like a butterfly from a cocoon -
And the second she found freedom Cyran was there to greet her from behind with a devastating series of slashes with spell slicer and cold steel, one-two-three in neat lines in the vulnerable gaps of her armor.[1] Enough to draw blood, infernal red spilling the dirt-covered stone - and enough to disorient her, giving Cyran the opportunity to duck back. In and out.
Above them, the first bolt of lightning struck a nearby spire. The storm had arrived. 1. Cyran’s Haunting Blade

Nadia stood opposite Andromeda on another spire charging her ray bow and letting it fire trying to get even a single shot in at least.
Javal struggled, feeling much pressure on his hand for a second as the calamity kept ripping through rooms (1) of dirt, sand, and other nearby flora. He wasn’t sure how long he could hold her, maybe a minute at most but any more and she’d break free but that should be plenty of time to think of some sort of surprise attack.
Javal turned to see Cyran. It seemed like he was really tired but Javal couldn’t blame him for the poisoning and travel the group did. Javal wished he was strong enough to take this calamity by himself so Cyran wouldn’t get hurt anymore but he was weak.
Javal nodded at Cyran’s remark and hit the ground running as fast as he could while still holding his spell actively.
As Javal’s spell was destroyed and the trap came down the calamity found Javal midair delivering a single water rune enhanced (2) slash across its head aiming to cut an eye and blind it.
Once Javal landed on the floor he jumped back; he barely missed a spear thrust sloppily aimed as the feline scrambled to reorganize herself after all of the combined hits at once.

Cyran’s assault from behind distracted the tigress just enough for Javal to catch a glancing blow on her weak point - claiming her eye in one devastating glancing blow. Almost in unison, assassin and swordsman retreated, leaping backwards to avoid a large, circular sweep intended to hit both of them. The calamity moved wildly, clutching her weapon haphazardly in one arm while holding her bloody face in the other, lips contorted in a snarl that thundered in the air. “Good job.” Cyran muttered. Despite the gravity of the situation, he was proud of Javal for landing such a difficult blow. The calamity, on the other hand, was not so amused. As she glowered at them, her remaining eye sparking blue and brilliant gold with electricity, her voice echoed in every crevice of their mind, just like the herder had done. Beyond speech, beyond words. Merely pure thought and will. FOOLS. MY BROTHER FANCIED HIMSELF A HERDER BUT WAS JUST AS SOFT AS THE SHEEP HE STOLE AWAY. IF YOU WRETCHES THINK THAT YOU CAN PIN DOWN THE EVER-CHANGING STORM, THEN YOU WILL FACE ITS JUDGEMENT. ONLY THE STRONG SURVIVE. She stepped forward, tracing the tip of her spear in a circular motion in a spear above her head, forming a miniature tornado that began picking up strength. Debris on the ground was knocked loose, getting thrown every which way - Cyran raised his hand, catching a solid wooden crate in midair before it could hit him, throwing it aside. [1] SUBMIT! SUBMIT TO THE STORM! “Never!” Cyran growled, dashing forward, through the wind, leaping over large chunks of stone and wood, before leaping at the tigress - She jabbed at his torso with her spear - Cyran blinked, the world shifting around him as he dissipated like smoke and shadow before instantly reforming behind the tigress, wrapping one hand around her neck where the armor did not protect her mottled fur. [2] He winced as electricity sparked up his hand all the way past his elbow, but he pushed past the pain. Focused on drawing every last drop of her energy out of her and into himself. [3] He couldn’t let this infernal creature kill Javal. He’d made a promise to Raoul, one he intended to keep. Even if it meant he had to choke the life out of this damned creature himself. He squeezed her throat tighter, channeling every ounce of his strength into the spell. The tigress struggled, the spell around her losing intensity as she lost energy. For a moment, Cyran thought he could relax, even just a fraction of a second. A second of overconfidence, perhaps. As the spell died down, he forgot to account for the spear in her hands, the spear that she drove straight into Cyran’s thigh.
