Was this where Morrigan was going to die? This huntswoman chick seemed to have completely powered up over the last couple of minutes - whatever spell she’d cast off herself sent her into a frenzy, slinging spell after spell at Morrigan that the young fellblood couldn’t catch up with. They kept running for their damn life, attempting to get the hell away from this crazy huntress - but then a stray spell hit them in the back, sending Morrigan careening to the ground, hitting the grass with a THUD.
Shit! Morrigan attempted to pull themselves to their feet, but the moment they tried to move, a sharp sting of pain lanced up their leg. A cursory glance at their foot revealed that it was twisted at an odd angle at the ankle; they could no longer run.
“Damnit!” Morrigan swore in infernal. Well, if they couldn’t run, they could at least crawl - with renewed vigor Morrigan attempted to pull themselves through the grass, getting scratched by twigs and bushes, but it was a futile attempt. The huntswoman was too fast.
“I’ve got you now, you wily little creature!”
Morrigan squeezed their eyes shut -
But no blow came.
When Morrigan opened their eyes, there was another fellblood standing in front of them, and the Huntswoman lay on the ground, immobile. They immediately stiffened, suspicious. That guy looked like Javal, but it wasn’t Javal. Pulling themselves into a sitting position and wincing at the tear in their ankle, Morrigan held their fan, regarding the other fellblood warily.
“Thanks for the assist.” They said slowly.

Javal was tired how wasn’t sure how long he could hold out as he charged his final attack he let out a scream. “Javal Style: Final Slash”
And swung landing a hit but excepting the final blow to come. Javal was sad it was gonna end like this. At least he’ll get to see his dad and crew if they were dead. Javal waited and nothing came. He opened his eyes back and saw Jack struggling to get up on the floor. “Release me filthy mud blood” Javal saw his cousin, Eithne sitting on top of Jack chuckling “Javal my dear don’t worry your dear old big cousins are here to save you and that other fellblood. Rufus is helping the other one. As for these woodcutters don’t worry about them. We have a lot to talk about now”.

The fellblood didn’t look like he was ready to attack Morrigan, so the lavender fellblood pulled themselves to their feet, brushing the dirt off of themselves before extending a hand, a charming smile on their face.
“The name is Morrigan Moonweaver- Enchanter, diviner, storyteller, godslayer, creator of miracles and maker of elixirs most wonderful. I seem to have found myself in a bit of a tight spot with the huntress here... you have my sincerest gratitude for the assistance!”
The fellblood merely sized Morrigan up and down before replying, “Hey don’t worry lord o’ too many titles. Looks like none of em saved you against that silly inquisitor. No worries I Rufus Bram am here now.”
Morrigan tilted their head to the side, uncomprehending. Rufus Bram? Was the name supposed to be familiar? Before they could ask anything else, Rufus Bram continued as if he hadn’t just casually insulted Morrigan.
“Looks like you met my dear cousin Javal.”
Ice-blue eyes lit up in recognition. “Oh, the other one who was with me, when we were attacked by those brutal hunters.” They gestured towards the huntswoman, who was lying unconscious at Rufus Bram’s feet. “Were you following us-? No, that doesn’t matter.” They were honestly just grateful for the assistance. “We got split up… I was holding my own just fine, until she started harnessing the magic of the forest. Again, thanks for the save.”
Rufus merely nodded, as if he knew all of that already. If he was watching Morrigan this entire time, that made sense. But why not jump in until now? Probably because he was so in awe of Morrigan’s alchemical and fighting prowess. Before they could ask anything more, Rufus turned and started heading back through the woods, dragging the woodswoman with him.
“Now come follow me. Let’s rendezvous with him and my sister.”
With no choice but to follow, Morrigan limped along on their injured leg to find Javal and the rest of his family.

As Javal was catching his breath his cousin Eithne continued talking with him. “Oh, Javal how many times have we told you, to unleash your dark desires? You coudv’e easily defeated them both if you just succumbed to your dark impulses like grandfather and everyone is telling you to”
Javal a bit frustrated says, “No Eithne I’m fine as is. I don’t need to be wicked to cut other wicked people down”.
Eithne shrugs while still sitting on top of the Woodcutter “Fine, fine, but don’t think we’re done talking about this because we’re not”.
Rufus and Morrigan arrive with the woodswoman being dragged by Rufus.
Rufus laughs as he says, “Oi, Cousin, looks like you and this Morrigan person really got done a number by these treehuggers”.
Javal excitedly says, “Yeah, you should’ve seen them, Rufus, after I beat one he got up and suddenly became really strong. If it wasn’t for Eithne I would’ve died”.
Rufus laughs as he says “Yes, yes, it’s no surprise YOU two got whooped as bad as you did, these two are actually part of a secret organization named the Order of Letters. Their current goals are unknown however many of them seem to be nobles or at least have the blood of old fables running through them”.
Eithne plays with her long blue hair as she says,” Oh well, I’m at least glad you ran into these two and not anybody else. These two numbskulls although horribly racist are quite stupid. They're not even the head of their house and wielder of their family’s fabled weapon. Now if you two had faced them you’d both be dead in a single hit”.
Eithne and Rufus chuckle,
Rufus says “We’ll be taking these two with us to do some interrogating. These guys are in big trouble. Javal and Morrigan come with us back to Darkveil you two need to talk to grandfather he’ll want to hear both of your stories firsthand”.
Eithne now facing Morrigan smirks and says, “Purple one trust me this will be worth your time. Our grandfather always rewards those who are in service to our family”.

The two found Javal speaking with another fellblood, in the middle of a tense discussion. Morrigan only managed to catch the tail end of it, but it sounded like the lady, Rufus Bram’s sister, was urging Javal to do… something that he didn’t want to do. They quieted down when Rufus Bram approached first, still dragging the body behind them. Javal laughed off his ribbing, thanking the lady - Eithne - for her help.
“Well, it’s good that we both made it out of their clutches, thanks to your cousins, yeah?” Morrigan clapped the other fellblood on the back, unsurprised to see he managed to survive. He looked like he knew how to use those weapons, even if his cousins were convinced that the two of them would’ve been turned into paste by the huntsmen.
“The Order of Letters?” Morrigan’s brows furrowed. They’d never heard of such a thing before. And the blood of fables… something bitter coiled their insides at the thought of it. Some people were blessed with all the luck merely based on the blood in their veins.
If the others weren’t around Morrigan might have spat in the huntswoman’s unconscious face.
But they had appearances to keep, ones they didn’t want to ruin quite yet. Especially when Miss Eithne turned to Morrigan with a coy look on her face and assured them that their grandfather was some big-wig in Darkveil… or at least someone Morrigan should want on their good side.
Well, the charlatan couldn’t say no to more connections.
They pulled their last health potion from their bag, quickly downing it to get rid of the limp in their leg.[1] Bone SNAPPED and POPPED as it corrected itself, allowing Morrigan to straighten and dip into a low bow.
“The name is Morrigan Moonweaver, and it is a pleasure to make your acquaintance as well, Lady Eithne. I suppose if we have been summoned, how can I say no to the call?” Especially if it meant a possible reward for saving the grandson of a powerful figure.
They turned to Javal with a smirk on their face. “Glad to see you faced hell and made it out on the other side, my friend.” 1. Potion of Minor Healing (2/2)

Javal, Eithne, Rufus, and Morrigan arrived to Darkveil after a couple days journey on Javal's galleon "The Blade of Abaddon". Rufus and Eithne told the duo had they had been already following the Woodrowe twins for a little bit investigating their connection to the order. They were waiting for them to strike in order to have enough evidence and they both admitted they were curious about the twos ability to survive. They arrived at Darkveil with both of the twins in their custody they traveled to the Bram Family Mansion and walked up the fourth floor and into Javal's grandfather's office. He is sitting behind his desk looking over his documents when the six walk in. Javal's grandfather had not changed since the last time he saw him, he stood shorter than Javal at 5'10" wore a purple suit with his short white hair slicked back alongside his green bifocles hiding his blind eyes and had small black horns.
"Ah, hello everyone, I've been expecting you all"

Morrigan usually traveled by land, so sea travel was something different than they were used to. It was a hell of a lot faster, though - after a few days of travel, in which Rufus and Eithne explained that they had already been following the two hunters when the woodsmen found Javal and Morrigan, they had already reached the Ash Lands. The explanation made Morrigan wonder if their attack against Javal was not as random as they initially thought… and Morrigan had incidentally been caught in the crossfire. But they held their tongue and their questions, electing to wait to meet this mysterious grandfather they’d heard a bit about over the journey.
Eventually, they reached the Bram family mansion. An older Fellblood was waiting for them when they arrived, sitting behind his desk and pouring over paperwork when they walked in. His eyes were hidden behind a pair of spectacles that made it difficult to read his expression.
Morrigan dipped into a bow at his greeting.
“You must be the Bram family patriarch. It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance.” They bid, the picture of manners in front of this powerful figure. "The name is Morrigan Moonweaver - enchanter, diviner, storyteller, godslayer, Champion of Zeinav, Sand Scorpion, maker of miracles and creator of elixirs most wonderful."

"Ah Yes, Morrigan I've had some of my employees look into you, you seem like a capable person. I'm glad Javal had someone like you there helping him against those brutes. My name is Ozdemir Bram, I'm the patriarch of this family and I run many business around the Ash Lands as well as have my own interests. Now I would like to hear both of your accounts of what happened", Javal's Grandfather said.
"Grandpa, you should've seen it. I was fighting this burly woodsman guy with an axe and we were evenly match until I barely beat him. It wasn't until he enter this weird powerful state that I was almost killed that was until Eithne managed to save me"
Ozdemir then hears Morrigan's account, and after speaks, "Ah yes, these two brutes are simply a small cog in a bigger machine, We've only managed to find some minor members of this Men of Letters group but from we've found they are an old and dangerous group that we must find more about. Javal and Morrigan I would like to hire both of you to investigate this group and find out what you can. You will be given the family's full support and assistance in this, Morrigan you will be payed very handsomely for your time. I would be interested in having such a reputable person like you under my payroll".

There was an imperceptible tension gathering in Morrigan’s shoulders as this man - Ozdemir Bram - stared them right in the eyes, admitting to looking into their past. What had he found? Nothing incriminating, surely. Morrigan had gone through great lengths to ensure that any record of their name was expunged, that there remained no trace of that old life. Even if he had connections, the trail should have vanished, obscured into smoke the closer he tried to look. Yes, impossible for him to find any trace of that pathetic child who, as far as the rest of the world was concerned, died over a decade and a half ago in the White Sand Seas.
“It is an honor and a pleasure to meet an esteemed businessman such as yourself.” They clapped their hands together, forcing that tension out of their body. It was fine. It was fine. They had to focus on the present, on this powerful figure of the Ash. Morrigan was no stranger to the kind of people that inhabited Darkveil. Organized criminals disguised as ordinary businessmen, all vying to be the one to wrest this lawless land under their control.
Was the Bram Patriarch one of them?
Javal didn’t seem like the criminal sort. Then again, neither did Morrigan. Looks could be deceiving.
Either way, this man would be a lucrative ally, indeed.
Morrigan nodded along while Javal recounted his side of the tale. All truthful - once he finished, it was time for Morrigan to share their side.
“I was just minding my own business in the Glade of the Moon, collecting herbs for potion components. I happen to be a member of the Golden Consortium - A chemist as well as a mage.” They started before nodding at Javal. “That was when I ran afoul of two vicious hunters with a taste for Fellblood ichor, along with your grandson here.”
They pressed a head to their forehead. “We fought them off, but in the end, the two overtook us, and we were forced into trial by one-on-one combat. I lost sight of Master Javal, and I fought back against the Huntswoman. The spellcaster.”
They nearly spat the last word before recomposing themselves.
“Fortunately, I am trained in the ways of the desert warriors of Zeinav. I held her off until she, as my companion Master Javal here described… entered a weird, powerful state.” They tapped at their chin in thought. “She said she was harnessing the power of the forest. It was Master Rufus Bram who saved me from a fate most terrible when the Hunstwoman caught me off guard.”
The elder fellblood seemed thoughtful for a moment before continuing on about the same organization Rufus and Eithne had mentioned before - and there it was again. This Order of Letters.
“Do you have any information on them or their goals thus far?” Morrigan asked, their tail flicking behind them in thought. The Bram Family didn’t seem to have much intel, either… coupled with the fact that this group seemed to have some powerful individuals amongst their ranks, that would make information gathering quite difficult.
But oh, wasn’t that what made such things fun?
It was lucky for Master Bram that he had inadvertently hired the services of one of the biggest scams and meddlers in all of Zeinav.
They had to bite back a laugh at the word ‘reputable’. To a criminal, perhaps. Or maybe their act was just that good.
But getting their hands on the support and funds of an influential figure in Zeinav… Morrigan couldn’t pass that up. Even if it meant working under someone’s thumb for a bit. “Master Bram, I think a business arrangement would be very beneficial for the both of us, indeed.”
They looked at Javal, an impish grin plastered on their features. One that promised more trouble and danger on the horizon - whether for them, or the Order of Letters, was yet to be determined.
“I’m in if you are, my friend.”
Ozdemir Bram might not have known it yet, but he’d just made a deal with the worst kind of devil -
The Charlatan.

Javal said excitedly, “I’m in as well I'm sure we can find whatever these wicked fiends are up to we’ll search through thick and thin throughout the expanse of Charon searching for anything we can find, right Morrigan”.
Ozdemir chuckles, “Yes, yes Javal I have full faith that you and Morrigan can get the job down, now then Javal I think the cooking staff has asked for you. They request you taste test some of the new cuisine for your Uncle’s new restaurant alongside Rufus and Eithne, Morrigan will join you shortly I just wanted to ask them a couple of questions alone”.
“Sure Grandpa, Hey Morrigan don’t take too long or I might just eat all of the food” Javal laughs sprinting away”.
“Oh No, you don’t” Eithne and Rufus both shout as they race behind him closing the door before they leave”.
Ozdemir chuckles, “Ah kids, so delightfully silly, now then let me explain a bit more of what you’re here for Morrigan. You may have Javal completely fooled but not me I know that you're a complete swindler looking for a free ride.” he says in a now more serious tone, “If I didn’t find your antics as amusing as I did I might’ve just had you sent on your way”. His voice clears up, “But I find your foolish swindling chaotic behavior amusing many people may look down on you however I see great potential. It is those chaotic people that rise to the top and gain power much like I did when I was younger. I have a second task set aside for you alongside your first one. You are to be assigned as Javal’s retainer alongside guiding him to take more steps into being a darker version of himself. Our family's teachings haven’t gotten through to him and I think your chaotic silly nature may have a better chance of reaching him than our previous attempts”. He finishes speaking and then smiles, "So what do you say charlatan".

Well, Javal certainly seemed enthusiastic. His dedication and sense of Justice was admirable, though it might prove to be a problem for the charlatan. Before Morrigan could reply, however, master Ozdemir dismissed him and his cousins with a flimsy excuse, one that Javal bought at face value as the young man challenged his cousins to a race for food.
Leaving Morrigan and the Bram family patriarch alone.
Dawning understanding bloomed on Morrigan’s face as Ozdemir explained his true intentions for bringing Morrigan here. A sly smile crept onto their face as they leaned forward, tapping at their chin. “Oh? Getting straight to the brass tax, are we?” They did take a bit of offense to being called a complete swindler looking for a free ride. They put a lot of work into scamming rubes out of their coin, after all!
His proposition, though, was… not what Morrigan expected.
“You want me to be… Javal’s secret mentor in the ways of crime?”
Huh. Well, they’d never really been a teacher to anyone in the ways of crime before. There was Fish, sort of, but the young criminal was already a fully-fledged rogue by the time that Morrigan had met them. Not to mention that Javal was a bit different - this was a leader of some criminal organization of sorts, who was employing Morrigan to… guide his grandson down the same path as him.
It was a deplorable question.
Good thing that Morrigan didn’t really care so much for morality.
“Not quite what I expected, but I can make it work.” Morrigan admitted. “If you want a guide for Young Master Javal, someone to teach him how to be cunning and selfish, then you’ve come to the right person.” Whether he was receptive to Morrigan’s teachings or not was another matter. He seemed firm in his good morals, and there was a possibility that no matter what Morrigan tried, Javal wouldn’t be swayed.
Another challenge. A project, they supposed.
It would be fun to see if they could succeed, no?
Morrigan moved to sit on the very edge of Master Ozdemir’s desk, extending a ring-clad hand. “Sure. Why not? You want a criminal, Master Bram, I shall make you a criminal.” They were not a master alchemist for no reason - Javal proved to be an interesting cocktail of reagents, that would create an unknown product.
All Morrigan had to do was find the catalyst.

"Great to have you onboard, Morrigan. Well enough of business go downstairs and look for Javal and his cousins enjoy the cuisine" Ozdemir bid Morrigan farewell and got back to work.
Javal had raced across the mansion to the kitchen with his cousins hot on his trail but he managed to get there first. At the kitchen the entire staff seemed to be there ready with as much food as Javal could hope for.
"Hello everyone we're gonna have you taste the entire menu making sure our food passes the Bram test. First up on the menu we have Owlbear Barbecue its a dish your father requested we made lady Eithne and Lord Rufus. Your father caught the owlbears himself". Four plates were taken to the dining room with Javal, Rufus, and Eithne close behind sitting down. It was then when Javal saw Morrigan had come.
"Morrigan, how'd it go? Hurry sit down this Owlbear Barbecue is about to be delicious".

Morrigan knew the dismissal when they saw one. It appeared Ozdemir was a man of business - frank and to the point. Perhaps any other person would have been more respectful of the powerful man, but Morrigan was flippant to the core. With a wave of their hand that got glitter over Master Ozdemir Beam’s paperwork from seemingly nowhere, Morrigan pulled themselves off of his desk. “Until next time, then, Master Ozdemir Bram.” They said with a wink before leaving the office to find wherever Javal and his cousins had scampered off to.
It wasn’t too terribly difficult. They just had to follow the smell, after all.
They found the other three fellbloods already in the kitchen, digging in to try some delectable smelling cuisine. Javal brightened when Morrigan entered, waving them over to take a seat and join in on the festivities. Morrigan grinned, eyes momentarily flicking towards Rufus and Eithne Bram. How aware were they of the comings and goings of their grandfather? Were they aware of the deal Morrigan had just accepted, or were they as in the dark as Javal? Morrigan supposed it didn’t matter. Even if they were aware, Morrigan doubted they would say anything. Especially when Eithne had seemed awfully determined to get Javal to embrace his own darker inclinations a few days ago in the forest…
The Apple, Morrigan supposed, did not fall far from the tree.
They sat down next to Javal, delicately picking up a napkin and utensils with a flourish. “Owlbear Barbecue? I don’t think I’ve had the pleasure of trying such a delicacy. I look forward to trying the finest that the Bram family chef has to offer.”
They dug in with the others, savoring the fine meal.
It truly did feel like a celebratory meal, though not for the same reasons as Javal.

Javal, his cousins, alongside Morrigan enjoyed some cuisine from his uncle's new restaurant each was more delicious than the last. The dishes included pumpkin pie, Wolf stew, and Crab-stuffed lobster tail, and Roast pheasant in oyster sauce. Each dish tasted like heaven, this was not something Javal was used to it was only until recently that Javal was approached by his grandfather. He was totally stuffed as well as his cousins, they were all sat at the table just lazing around trying to recover from food comas. Javal's was even starting to doze off that was until Morrigan perked up from sitting down.
With a silly smile on their face they asked, "This house looks rather big with lots of places to hide… what do you say to a fun little game"?
Javal hoped up form his chair hitting his head the chandelier above him, he start to slightly bleed from the head but nonetheless he said, "Yes, we should play hide and seek, Eithne & Rufus please play?"
Rufus remarked, "No Javal we are not children we should be doing something else with our time like strategizing or shopping for new weapons".
Eithne chuckled, "Oh come now Rufus stop being no fun, we'd love to. Javal dear you should be the seeker".
Javal said, "Fine, start hiding I'm counting until 100 now".
The rest of the fellbloods dispersed quickly.

Unlike Javal, Morrigan was used to a certain level of… decadence. Although one might not think it looking at them, money from their various schemes over the years had added up, and they were quite well off. It was obvious looking at them that Morrigan adored fine things - clothes, jewelry, enchanted items, company. But they did live the nomadic life… getting their hands on food as nice as this could be difficult. This really was the high-life! How loaded was Ozdemir Bram if he was able to enjoy food like this as if it were nothing? Well, Morrigan was about to get a slice of this pie - in both the literal and the metaphorical sense. If Ozdemir wanted to entice them to play, then Morrigan would play.
In fact, why not start right now?
Once they finished with their meal, an idea occurred to Morrigan. If Bran wanted chaos, then Morrigan would have to deliver it in his own mansion. See what Javal was really capable of. He was an adept fighter; but that was all Morrigan knew. They needed more information.
So they decided to propose a game.
Harmless fun, innocent enough - until vases would start to get smashed and fine things would need to get broken. Morrigan needed to see Javal’s propensity for chaos. Luckily enough, Eithne Bram saw it fit to elect Javal as first seeker.
Perfect.
That would give Morrigan plenty of opportunity to hide and watch. As Javal counted down from one hundred, Morrigan sprinted off in the direction of the westward part of the building with a burst of jubilant laughter and a cry of, “Catch me if you can, Master Javal!” They had the disadvantage of being unfamiliar with this terrain, but that didn’t matter. Eventually, they found a window overlooking the city, with large, crimson curtains to hide behind. Grinning to themselves, Morrigan ducked behind the velvet, waiting for the young fighter to find them.
