If Sol City's port wasn't a major pit stop for overseas travel, Astrid would literally never come here. Yet something always manages to bring her back. Whether it's travel, guild work, or robbing rich people who accidentally happen to be her grandparents, Sol City seems to be as inescapable a place as its jail. Since she's here for a pit stop, Astrid spends the day wandering around looking for something interesting to do. A certain amount of nostalgia drew her back to the Market District, but the smell of food doesn't hurt her draw to the area. Several merchants in the square hesitate to pay her any mind or render her any services. After all, the preteen half-dwarf with horns was directly responsible for some of the destruction that happened around the fountain. She doesn't mind the looks, though. They are no different than those of disgust and caution from those she received while living on the streets in Sky Peak. Besides, she's too distracted by the melancholy of past events in this very square to pay onlookers any attention. Having managed to get her hands on a couple of meat skewers, Astrid sits on the edge of the fountain offering an occasional taste of seared lamb to her hellhound companion Spicy Pawsage and patting his horned head as she chews on the perfectly cooked meat. At some point, Spicy's ears perk up while he looks around alertly. "What's wrong, boy?" Astrid asks through a half-chewed bite. At her call, the hound gets distracted and looks up at her expectantly for more of a snack. That was weird.
Bringing pets: Spicy Pawsage - hell hound (dreadsnout) Charles - Scarecrow Squire (in pet pocket) Quest details: Quest Name: Evacuation! Participants: Two or more Location: One of Charon's Major Cities Post Requirements: 6 post per person, 200 words per post Reward: +1 Renown, +1 Mystical Archive Ticket Description: You have found yourself caught up in one of these earthquakes, one of the biggest yet. While spending time in one of Charon's popular cities, the earth begins to shake, cracking open and throwing the city into chaos. Buildings collapse, fires spread and lava seeps from a massive fissure that has sprouted open, leaving those in the city to run for their lives. As a brave, capable member of Charon, you are needed to help evacuate the city, tend to wounded and assist civilians in getting to safety. The destruction is massive, rendering a small portion of the city destroyed and in need of repairs, but fixing things comes later, the priority now is to survive!

Shit he thinks, clutching the tip of his turban so it doesn’t peek above the rooftop that he hid behind. That was close…The dog had almost spotted him, why the hell had it looked away from the meat stick?! Silly dog had almost cost him the perfect introduction to someone kind of famous. The youngest member of the Mage’s Guild… He had been stalking her ever since seeing her on the registry in the guildhall. Such young power could be a great boon to his full ascent to greatness, if only he could have a taste of her blood… No…just like always. Niceties first, and then ASK for blood. Wouldn’t want Shaa to be stalking HIM stalking HER and find Mubashir on the wrong side of a fuzzy punch. Sumaita nudged him, before motioning back towards the girl. She was right, enough tomfoolery. It was time to make his introduction. Leaping from the top of the building with a suspiciously long carve through it, he found that several of the awnings were damaged. None of the cloth sheets that should have been there to arrest his fall were, seemingly broken in some long forgotten street spat. He impacted the cobblestone three stories below, and laid there for a moment. A couple of passerby and a storekeeper crowded near him, gasping at the man who had apparently just died. He picked himself up with a long groan, waving off the few who offered assistance to him. Slightly concussed, he groggily dusted himself off and approached the fountain where the girl sat. “I….I…can I ssit here very quick? My head….augh. Mubasshir the Magnifisceeent. It wass ssuppossed to be cooler… Magess Guild, welcome” He collapsed wearily on to the lip of the fountain, hands holding his slightly bleeding head and knees. He could look up to the rooftop and see three copies of Sumaita each shaking their heads in dissapointment.

The motion of a man leaping or... falling(?) from a roof catches Astrid's attention, but not soon enough for her to rush over and save them. She's caught completely by surprise at that, and she's on her feet quickly. "What happened??" she calls, somewhat frantically. "Are they alright?? I can heal 'em if they need it!"
Before she can take a step, the man sits up with a groan, and the shopkeep replies, "He... seems alright. Some of that healing might be good for him." The man offers to help Mubashir up but is turned away, so he shrugs, glad he hadn't actually gotten around to replacing the awning even though the city commission was upset about it. This kind of thing is exactly why. Damn adventurers.
Astrid watches the strange man who fell from the roof stumble over and collapse on the side of the fountain. She slowly takes her seat again and keeps Spicy from sniffing at the strange man. His attire tells her he's from somewhere that's probably hot and dusty like a desert, and she wonders if he's from Zeinav...
"Erm, sure, mister," Astrid says unsurely, looking at him. The next string of words from his mouth only serve to confuse her a bit more. "Mubashir? Ah, nice ta meet ya, I s'pose. I'm Astrid. Are... Are ya from the Mage's Guild?" She can't recall having seen him, but she hasn't had the opportunity to spend much time in the guild hall. The blood on his head is concerning. "Um- do ya want me ta heal ya? I've got a little bit of healin' magic from me da an' a potion. Got bandages too if it ain't that seriously."

His eyes widened and pupils constricted at the mention of healing magic. His back straightened and his hands flew up in a disarming fashion. Any ounce of the holiest of magics would have devastating effects on his undeath. “Oh, nonono. If it iss not broken do not fisx it ass they ssay in the Areed Messa. I think…But thank you for the gesture. I am indeed, the Mage’s Guildss ssecond finesst repressentative!”
He would never dream of overreaching the Witch of the Moonglades position of true power, being one of the highest ringed members of the guild, or even the world. Regardless, he relaxed his posture. Kaslan rustled within the turban in which he lay. Stirred in his eternal slumber by some imperceptible disturbance. The firey dog before him as well, seemed quite stressed about whatever dogs get stressed about. “Hey, I think your dog needss ssome walkiess…or perhapss ssome water, you know…for the f-“ Innocuous comments were interrupted by a soft rumbling that shook the fountain on which they sat upon. Only lasting a few seconds, it was over seemingly before it started. Just long enough to save Mubashir from making a stupid comment. “Hmmmmm That was weird. Anyways, welcome to the Mage’s Guild. I’ve -“
This next rumble was no small shudder. It was more like an eruption of earth and energy shattering the very ground beneath them. Mubashir was knocked onto his hands and knees as water from the fountain spewed forth with great pressure, shattering it’s containment and flowing freely into the park. Market stalls upheaved and people sent cowering in fear as the very buildings they found shelter in betrayed them, toppling over and trapping those within. And the shaking just kept going, with a great chasm forming in the very center of the market, nearly five feet wide and an untold distance deep.

Astrid finds it a bit strange for someone to turn down healing so quickly. It almost makes her suspicious, but the suspicion quickly fades into a bit of a playful smile. "Second finest?" she asks. "Glad ta know ya don't think yer better than me! But I s'pose I'm surprised ta hear ya think yer better than me grandparents." The half-dwarf stifles a giggle. Obviously, this guy she's just met wouldn't claim to be better than both of her grandparents, would he? He must know them if he's a member, and he wouldn't dare assume himself a better mage than either Kamille or Bellighul. If he does, then he surely must be powerful.
Unless he thinks himself more powerful than them and actually thinks Morrigan the most powerful member of the guild, which... Well, then this Mubashir would sure be sucker, wouldn't he?
"Astrid Stormstone," she says, offering a hand to shake. "Nice ta meet ya, Mister Mubashir."
Spicy Pawsage raises his head and looks around alertly again, and Astrid looks at the hound, reaching down to pet his head. "What's wrong, boy?" she asks. The canine lets out an uncharacteristic whine. "Ya don't need walks; all we do is walk. What's wrong with ya?" Then the ground rumbles beneath their feet, and Astrid stands up, looking around, ready for danger. There shouldn't be anything in Sol City that rumbles. This place wasn't built on a giant turtle, was it?
"Aye, it was weird," she says slowly, starting to sit back down. Her rear doesn't even make contact with the fountain before Spicy starts barking and the world suddenly shifts beneath her feet, throwing Mubashir to the ground. The shaking doesn't stop. Buildings start shifting in their foundation. People scream around them as tiles and bricks rain down on the cobbled streets. The fountain sprays water in every direction as it's lifted then dropped again. Astrid barely manages to scoop the fiery hound into her arms before the water threatens to take him away. Her feet stay firmly planted on the ground, her knees absorbing as much of the movement and keeping her as stable as possible.
A scream from a man seems to descend, and Astrid looks back to see the massive crack spreading across the market like a lightning bolt seeking a grounding piece of metal. The very earth splits asunder, and people scramble away, some of them falling down. Astrid looks over at Mubashir and reaches down to grab him by the back of the shirt and lift him to his feet.
"Okay, mister second best mage, time ta prove ya've got the chops!"

His eyes roll to the back of his head as Mubashir stares down the gorge that had just formed. A force pulls him back, stands him up on legs of jelly, and says it’s go time. “Chopss…Chopss?! We musst ssimply get out of here! A thoussand yearss of Mage’ss curriculum could not prepare me to undo thiss travessty! We musst go, Musst go before we get trapped onsce more!”
A rigid slap crosses his beautifully manicured moustache, bringing him back to his senses. Sumaita finally recovers from her own fall off the roof as her building had crumbled, only to stand and see the child assaulting her master. Silent fury brought her forward, leaping across the chasm with hands forming claws pointed with sharp nails. Her face twisted in jilted anger, only to be stopped by an outstretched arm of Mubashir. “Ow, okay jeez no need to be mean about it. And you, Ssumaita be nisce sshe wass jusst trying to help okay? It iss indeed time to sshow the chopss ass they ssay. Firsst thingss firsst”
He waved his arms high into the air, swirling them and swirling them. The clouds of the area gathered closer together, forming the beginning of rainclouds, and darkening the sky significantly. 1. That’s better, too much sun was bad for the mind, just ask all those wacky scorched things or whatever they were going by these days. “Alright, now I can think. Ssumaita, if you would love, pleasse begin extricating any ssurvivors from the rubble. Duke will be along sshortly to assisst. Alright meessuss Sstormsstone, what next?”

“Sorry, ya just looked like ya were about ta lose yer marbles there, mister,” Astrid quickly explains. “We’ve gotta help whoever we can!” As she turns to start running, she’s met with the aggressive movement of Sumaita, and she whips out her hammers, ready to defend herself. Luckily Mubashir stops his thrall.
There’s no time to dwell on the situation with these two. “Gettin’ people out is important,” she says, nodding in agreement to what Mubashir instructed Sumaita to do. “I don’t s’pose ya have any magic that lets ya lift rubble, do–”
The earth rumbles beneath their feet again, just as violently as before. Everything seems to be crumbling around them, and this time the rumbling doesn’t seem like it’s going to stop. The chasm that ripped through the market cracks even wider, and the smoke that pours of it has a dangerous orange glow. An entire building gets swallowed by the tear.
“We hafta get folks outta here!” Astrid cries. Someone’s scream catches her attention, and she watches cobbles fall from beneath a fleeing civilian’s feet. Without thinking, Astrid uses magic to propel herself across the square and jumps into the chasm to grab them, manifesting magical air to step on so she can catch the man by his shirt. His screams of terror cease momentarily until they both look down and see bubbling magma deep below. The heat radiates up and blasts her in the face. Astrid quickly gets back to solid ground and sets the man down. “Run!” He doesn’t question that and takes off down the street.
“There’s a cart there! Get people into it!” Astrid says, pointing to a large, unmanned wagon. “I’ve got a horse! Spicy, into yer pocket!” She rushes toward the wagon, pulling her hellhound into his special pocket and manifesting the magic to summon a beautiful gray pegasus. Being pulled into a dangerous situation, Arcus starts to panic, but Astrid calms him and haphazardly straps him to the wagon.
In the distance, the rumbling of the earth disturbs even the ocean. Ships rock on the water. The entire city screams in terror.

Mubashir stumbles once more to his hands and feet as the ground beneath himself shudders violently. Witnessing the man almost fall in brought to the fore his own mortality, shrinking his pupils and moving his once still heart. Sheet this is bad isnt it? He had never been in the midst of a disaster this bad if you didn’t count sandstorms spent inside a box.
“S-sheet! Oakay I’ll put them in! Duke!” He shouts back at Astrid who begins strapping a Pegasus to a wagon. Was that ethical? Not the time, he thinks as The Duke emerges from a shadowy portal in the sky (1).
“Duke! Shove people in the cart! No killing!”
“Uhhh, okay” the large abomination of a man responds. He turns his bulky mass around and begins grabbing horrified pedestrians from under stalls and between crumpled buildings. Mubashir himself takes the hand of a frightened young boy and throws him into the cart behind a similarly aged Astrid. Sumaita emerges from a freshy collapsed building holding onto only the bloodied hand of a victim, which after she notices quickly drops it and wipes off her hands on her silken dress in disgust.
The screams from the surrounding city certainly begin getting to Mubashir. Was this the end of days? It certainly resembled it. Who did he have left to pray to…Ziev?

Finally getting Arcus strapped up, Astrid looks back to Mubashir only to see the bizarre imagery of a hulking abomination drop down from the sky. Her hammer manifests in her hand, and she’s ready to go to bat, assuming that this is just another problem to add to the pile, but it seems to say something to Mubashir then start collecting civilians who are absolutely terrified of it. The kid dropped into the cart exchanges a look with Astrid, wondering how the heck this girl is keeping any wits.
Without hesitating, Astrid dashes back to Mubashir to start collecting and directing anyone they can find to the cart. The ground shifts again beneath their feet. It’s time to go. With a half dozen people piled into the cart, Astrid rushes back to the driver’s seat with Mubashir. She’s never actually driven a cart before, and Arcus has never pulled one. This is about to be an interesting experience. Mimicking what she’s seen other drivers do, she snaps the reins. Arcus is more than happy to run the fuck away from the crumbling cobbles around them and takes off sprinting down the hill towards the bay.

Mubashir grasped at his turban as the ground began to shake and the cart took off. The confidence the child managed as she drove was truly impressive, clearly she did this regularly. Large cracks appeared in the cobbles as the cartload of people raced towards the beach. Ships rolled in their docks as sailors packed people on and began casting off. A large portion of the ships available had in fact already cast lines and began pulling into the significantly less moving bay. Quite a few of them however, seem to have grounded themselves in the middle of the port. A large portion of the water that usually encompassed the yard had been swept away, leaving several large pockets of crabs and ancient wrecks littering the seafloor below them. “Thats weird… isn’t the beach usually more water than sand?” He asked idly as they raced the cart across narrow streets. Entire buildings and cranes had collapsed from the initial quake and sailors were deftly running around with buckets trying to put out the resulting fires. It was largely an all around disaster, encompassing the entire city in its wake. Would there even be a safe place to retreat?

Dodging falling debris and cracks and displaced cobbles is an extremely difficult task when the horse pulling the wagon really wants to fly away but can’t with the load in the cart. Each hard bump sends white-knuckled passengers from their seats and threatens to crack the wheels. Astrid glances back to check on everyone only to see the buildings shifting as the chasm continues to split the city. Hold out. Hold out!
The cart races down the slopes and toward the docks. Crabs flee in the wake of all the feet rushing around begging for reprieve from the chaos. Things seem safer on ships, but many of them are leaving, and a few are unexpectedly grounded. Still, that seems like the best place, doesn’t it??
“H-Huh??” Astrid blurts, following Mubashir’s eye line to see that the ocean has receded a few dozen feet. “Wait… Where’d all the water go?” It’s the ocean! Water doesn’t just disappear, does it?? She quickly looks back up to the city and tries to see if the chasm made it all the way to the docks, but it hasn’t. If the water didn’t fall into the earth, then where did it go?
There’s no time to worry about that. Ships are grounded, ships that could help people to safety, and they’ve got to do something about them if they can. Astrid rapidly thinks of something they can use, coming up short from her own spell list and wondering what the heck Cantio has for her to access. “Have ya got anythin’ useful fer movin’ ships??” she asks Mubashir, bringing the cart to a rough stop. Its passengers say quick words of thanks before scrambling out and off toward the docks to the small fishing boats that were washed out to sea with the receding tide.

“Moving shipss? Iss that not the domain of Avassha hersself?” He pondered, stroking his beard. “Hmmm….” Mubashir stared out to the horizon as the worried and beleaguered citizens scurried around him to put out fires. Something strange was forming at the edge of his vision however… as though a large string of mountains formed out in the midst of the sea. It was probably just an illusion, but it also seemed like the range was getting… bigger? “Do you ssee that young one? It’ss almosst like…. Oh no. Get on the sshipss, EVERYONE GET ONTO THE SSHIPSS IT ISS TOO LATE TO RUN.” Tsunami. The devastating sister of earthquakes near water. The surf retreated further and further as the distant wave grew, now apparent in it’s height and speed. It was as though a wall of ocean had chosen to pick up and move elsewhere. The worst of Selina’s wrath. Mubashir wove his fingers through the lingering magic in the air, tugging at strings both large and small. He was master of the arcane, Mubashir the Magnificent, and now of all times was the place to show it. “SSUSSPEND” He shouted, to noone in particular. The strings he pulled stayed in place, as his fingers found new ones in the air to manipulate. “SSUSSPEEEEND” Once more, a tapestry of magic locked itself in place around him, brimming with energy wild enough that even those not gifted were starting to take notice. It was time. “I AM MUBASHIR THE MAGNIFICENT, MASTER OF THE ARCANE, DOMINEER OF ALL ELEMENTS. THE VERY GODS SHALL QUAKE IN MY PRESENCE, AND NO OCEAN SHALL TAKE ME THIS DAY. CONTROLLED SANDSTORM TIMES THREE, ASPECT OF AVASHA”(1) His voice boomed, reverberating throughout the docks. The very fabric of magic surrounding him unraveled all at once, strings snapping themselves back into place with impossible force. For a moment, everything was still. The wind had stopped, if but for a gentle breeze. The confidence on Mubashirs face was the only thing that betrayed anything had happened at all. Slowly, the breeze grew, subtle at first, but soon even the trees swayed in it’s midst. Clouds rolled above as the wind surrounding the area picked up, sails flapping and eventually fully taut in the gale. Boxes and windows crashed and cracked in the turmoil as the last of the people ascended the boats, holding tightly so that they might not be blown away as well. The wall of water approached, easily several buildings in height, it’s speed rivaling that of even the fastest Dvoryian. Mubashir held tight what he needed to control the winds, aiming them directly for the wall of water. A humungous splash from the top of it sheared it in half from the sheer amount of wind, reducing it’s height to just below the waterline of the ships that needed to escape. The wind alone was propelling them slowly through the sand, but as the water began to touch them they rose above the wave, almost flying themselves in the strong wind coming from behind them. As the wave began to crash into the docks, picking up speed now that it had beached and lost half of it’s initial volume. Mubashir had not a second to react before standing tall and taking the full force of the wall of water as it washed over the district. The only hint to his fate left back at the market, where his minions crumbled to dust. Mubashirs Controlled Sandstorm Elemental Master - Earth to Air Spell Suspension x2

Mubashir points out something in the distance. Is that…? No way that’s a giant wall of water. And then the magician begins his panicked shouts. Oh, oh it is a big wall of water! Astrid’s just a girl with a hammer, she can’t fight nature itself! This isn’t something caused by a dragon like the blizzard in Frost Gale!
The chaos somehow becomes even more so. Astrid rushes over to free Arcus from the wagon and clambers into the saddle on the pegasus’ back. She looks over at Mubashir who seems to have a plan. Perfect, he has a plan. He’s setting up for something big! Great!
“I’ll help folks ta the boats!” she shouts, urging Arcus forward and galloping along the docks. Frantically, she helps the straggling civilians, even opting to hop off of Arcus to let him carry a couple of people while she opens her wings and drags the last of the people to the boats just as the tsunami enters the bay.
“BRACE YERSELVES!!” Astrid shouts, hunkering down for the impact when her feet hit the deck of the ship. Boats in the bay swell up with the water. Then something seems to cut through the giant wave, reducing the force at which it would have impacted the docks. The same wind catches the ships and propels them out to sea, cresting the sliced wave and leaving them resting in the bay as the remnants of the water wall crash into the shoreline. Luckily, the damage is reduced from what it might have been had the magician on the shore not done something.
But wait, where is Mubashir?
When things settle, Astrid jumps back on Arcus and makes her way back to the docks, looking around desperately for any sign of Mubashir, but she finds none. All she can do is hope that he made it somewhere safe with the powerful magic he possesses. For now, things seem to be settling down. There’s no time to wait around, though. There are plenty of people who need help after the carnage.
