Post by Lady Kamille Verlithax on Mar 15, 2023 7:23:52 GMT -5
Among other things, Kamille was a good listener and didn’t interrupt Shaa once, slowly eating and sipping on her tea. For the moment, tea was the choice of drink, because she had briefly tried to open the bottle of wine she got from the house, as if feeling something was not right. There was no wine on the bottle, but when she turned it over, from it poured about half a dozen of fluffy small balls of.... soot? The little balls sprouted little arms and legs and started to run about the place wildly. The Witch looked surprised for a moment, but then just sighed tiredly, not even taking the moment to try to understand what they were. Certainly they weren’t the strangest thing on her house - she would gather them later on a fresh bottle.
Kamille motioned, bringing over some bread and cheese to make company for the stew.
"Closure."
She finally spoke up when he was done, dipping the bread on the stew.
"What you're looking for is closure. I can respect that. End a chapter of your story so you can move on - sounds like a good reason. Good to know. Some people get caught up in some twisted notion of justice or revenge, thinking this will bring some kind of relief for their pain. It never does. But closure is very much needed, even if it feels... painful. I'm sure you have the strength to handle it, but be warned, Shaa.... it's not easy."
She gently put a small hand on his much bigger one.
"Either way, I'm gonna be there to help you. Whatever you need, you can count on me."
Kamille was often quick to open up and embrace others into her circle, so it was no wonder the most powerful Pyromancer of Charon would find no hard task to accept the most powerful Terramancer of Charon as friend - specially after spending a day doing what they did best.
With a gentle smile, Kamille got the minotaur another serving once he was done with his - and another one if he didn’t look full enough. While he finished his meal, she managed to get the sootlings still running about another flask, and looked surprised when they listened to her and went to sleep in their new home.
With their route settled, Kamille would arrange the things they needed for their travel during the next morning, since they were in dire need of some rest. Before retreating to her own quarters, Kamille showed Shaa to a room that looked like a dormitory, with about half a dozen beds lined in either sides of the room. There was already some people there, in the far end of the room - a man was sleeping the sleep of the drunk, still all dressed in black and with his boots on. Another man, similarly dressed, was buckling his boots together. Both of them were half-elves, and Kamille quickly explained they worked for her and were known as the Black Quills. Shaa should not be worried if one started to punch the other in the morning.
"Tell me if you need anything to help you sleep. I'm gonna make sure we got everything ready to go in the morning."

Closure. Shaa chewed on the word that Kamille had offered and it seemed right to him. Yes, I suppose that’s a good way to look at it. When I talked to my parents, they weren’t really angry about what happened as weird as that sounds. The life of a Minotaur is full of death and violence so it’s kind of an accepted part of our existence. They were more sad, anxious that they couldn’t do more to end the story. It’s a feeling I can understand. I will bring them closure or find my own in joining them. But don’t worry. The plan is the former not the latter. Easy or not. Shaa finishes the drink and follows Kamille to the barracks.
Shaa watches the two half elves toss in their sleep. As someone who has dozed off on the floor in more than one dingy tavern, this was not an unfamiliar scene. This will work just fine, I’ll see you in the morning. Shaa snags a pillow from one of the empty beds, finds a nice spot in the corner and settles in. Not wanting to wreck a bed with his horns or sheet girth, he is more than happy to snuggle up to the ground, close to the earth. He can feel his heartbeat slow as he drifts off into slumber.
The next morning he can feel two pair of eyes peering down at him. With a loud snort, the beings belonging to the eyes jump back. Shaa pulls himself up slowly and stretches out his arms to shake off the cobwebs of deep slumber. You two are the black feathers or something right? Hers a tip for you. If you are going to wake a Minotaur, bringing pastries of some kind goes a long way to make the transition easier. He scratches his chin and hauls himself up off the floor. Have you seen your master yet? As he asks, he can hear some footsteps coming from down the hall.

One of the men, the bigger one, was clearly in a bad mood already; while the other was the exact opposite. Regardless of that, they were both kinda curious of the minotaur, and imediatelly stepped away as Shaa rose from his sleep. The choice of sleeping on the ground didn't go unnoticed by them, but they would keep it to themselves regardless.
"Ahm... She's been up sometime now, probably. Are you the one they call Shaa? The leader of the Fighter's Guild?"
"What kind of pastries? Like... Muffins?"
Well, if they were meant to be Kamille's spies, at least they seemed to have the basic information right, and both seemed excited to be in his presence upon realizing that. Kamille didn't take long to realise there was something going on or that, at least, they were waking up. In a matter of moments after issuing his question, Kamille was knocking at the door.
"Good morning, children... Breakfast is up, come on."
Under rested eyes and the sunlight, it was evident Kamille's house was quite warm and comfortable, even if tinged with a bit of chaos everywhere. Once again she led them to the kitchen, where there was someone else now: the third Black Quill seemed to be arriving from her own trip, ready to unpack and go rest. This one was a woman, small and silent, with a gaze as sharp as her katana. Her eyes also lit up in recognition of Shaa, and she looked to Kamille for confirmation.
"Shaa, this is Poe, the third Black Quill. Your two roomates were Edgar and Allan. I hope they didn't bother you..."
"It's an honor meeting you, Mr. Shaa," Poe quickly offered a handshake to the minotaur.
A stern glance from the Witch quickly ended most commotion, as all the Black Quills went to have their breakfast on the living room while exchanging stories of their most recent affairs. Poe looked fresh from the road, so it was mostly her telling what she's been up to.
Kamille went to have breakfast with Shaa, and she looked already all geared up for the travels, her bags already by the door with her feathery cloak. Unlike what she often did, it was a light breakfast, specially given they would be soon traveling with Kalaf, and she knew that dragonback riding wasn't exactly the most gentle on the stomach. Mischief came back from his early morning search with what looked like a solar, probably found on the forest, possibly one snatched from a poor idiot right between their finger.
The Witch was... remarkably chatty on the early hours, a pattern he would be able to witness on the days to come. Being Kamille's traveling partner often meant having the abilitie to zone off while she was ranting about some plant or whatever - or else have their ears fall off. Thankfully, when they were ready to get on Kalaf's back, she gave rest for Shaa's ears - possibly to have a wildly long chat with Kalaf using the Message spell until they arrived close to the village they were supposed to get their ship.

As the two landed next to the port village, Shaa felt his stomachs take a deep lurch with the sudden descent. As the dragon came to a stop, he quickly hopped off and took several deep breaths. Yup, the ground was the place for him to be. This was his second time on a dragon and, of all the ways to travel it was the most jarring. He used to believe that Ginma would be angry if he spent too much time in the sky but, with the recent events of the Sol Stone clarifying his place in the universe, those old beliefs had started to fall away. Even so, some habits were harder to break than others.
Shaa waved at the dragon. Umm thanks for the ride buddy. I owe you a treat or something the next time I see you. Shaa wondered what kind of things you would give to a dragon as a treat but then thought better of digging too deep into that well. He offered a hand to Kamille to help her down, not that she needed it probably.
Once they were settled, they made their way into the town to look for a boat to charter. The town itself was small. Probably too small for most maps but it was large enough to be known hub for small trade ventures, fishing and charters to the islands. Shaa knew about it as he frequently came here to book charters back to the fighters guild. The only down side was the service was irregular. You could always find a boat to go anywhere, it just might take you a day or two to do it. Shaa motions Kamille to follow up to a dive bar he knows called “The bloody knuckle” while not the cleanest of places, it is the most likely place they will find the captain that they are looking for.
Watch your step he gently warns and your back…and your stuff…. Yeah, it’s probably best to watch everything. As they enter the bar, Shaa sees a pair of rough looking sailors crowding a small table in the back.

Kamille gladly accepted Shaa's help to get down from Kalaf's back. The thought that a minotaur was more gentlemanly than most men made a smile curve her lips. So much so for the knights in shinning armor from Sol City - they were all being put to shame by Shaa.
"Don't worry about us, Kalaf. I'll call if we need your help. Thanks for the ride."
She wouldn't go deep into what kind of snack Kalaf would want, but the drake did seem to give Shaa what looked like a slight bow of the head and a slow blink, in a way recognizing that Shaa was trying to be nice. Shaa had already seen that Kamille could simply summon him from wherever he was, so that explained the "I'll call you" part.
The Witch would admit not knowing that small village - apparently, she didn't know every place there was to know in Moonglade, so she wouldn't be surprised if people there didn't recognize her as well. Probably for the best, given their mission at the moment. When Shaa warned Kamille about watching her stuff, the minotaur would notice the half-elf keeping a step closer to him - probably they wouldn't mess with her if she was close to Shaa, right?! Kamille often didn't have trouble facing someone else in a straight up battle, face to face, but she was the kind of person that needed some babysitting in places like that at the risk of being picked clean. The Black Quills often had that as one of their top priorities.
The tavern was not the fanciest one, but instead of putting the Witch off, it actually seemed to get her more excited. If her time at Sol City taught her anything, was that the hottest gossips were running in places like that. Okay, no, focus. Boat.
Looking over to Shaa to see if he was following her, she straight up walked to the table with the sailors. With a subtle nod of the head, she didn't go too far on the pleasantries and dove straight to the point.
"Gentlemen. Where are the boats headed today?"

One of the more grizzled sailors looked up from the table and leered over Kamille like an an Owl Bear over a fresh carcass. Well well well. Look at the pretty birds that blew into our drab little establishment. Come here little bird and sit on daddy’s lap and tell him your troubles. The sailors at the table all start riotously laughing and slapping each other. One of the sailors stops laughing abruptly as he sees Shaa stomping purposefully towards the table. He slams his large hand roughly ocausing several plates and dishes to bounce around the table haphazardly. The grizzled sailor looks undisturbed up from his mug.
The barns out back bull man. We have a rule about livestock around the real people. The Minotaur turned his massive head slowly to face the his assailant. That’s funny. For a place that doesn’t allow livestock, there are certainly a lot of jackasses around here. A smaller sailor towards the back of the table snorted back some laughter. Putting down his mug on the well worn wooden table, the crusty sailor stares Shaa in the eye. You looking for trouble dirt walker? No, not trouble, just a boat, like the lady said. Well we got boats a plenty down here as you well know. But all of the men that haul the sorry fodder out to that island of yours are all out painting their nails or some nonsense. Ya just gonna have to wait…preferably outside.
Shaa shifted uncomfortably. This isn’t a ride to the guild. We just need passage… out to Sol City. All the sailors look at them surprised and somewhat amused. Really Shaa? Says the salty sailor incredulously. Back there again? You have so many wanted posters out there they are almost downright collectible. I have one with a big scar and partial color in my cabin. Chirped one of the younger sailors, obviously oblivious to the tone of the conversation. Ya ya. Don’t we all. People don’t exactly call this place home because they are welcome anywhere else. It’s just a one way fare. Do you have someone that can handle it or not? The sailor rubs the side of his greasy bearded face and looks up at the ceiling in apparent deep reflection. Well normally I would tell you to go stuff it but….he does need the money. Ughh cash is cash …. Yeah. Head down to the docks. Captain Butters will haul you out.
Shaa stood up straight. Butters? You have to be kidding me. He basically sails a leaky bathtub. The sailor snickers at the description. No no, he got an upgrade. That’s why he needs the money, to pay it off. It’s a largish fishing trawler, can’t miss it…you know. From the smell. He can get you over there. Beggars can’t be choosers bull man. Shaa turns and motions Kamille to follow him towards the dock, resisting the urge to light something on fire as they leave. Despite the tenuous relationships here, this port was a necessary evil on more than one occasion when the guild needed them. No point in rocking the boat…so to speak.

Kamille wasn't completely unused to the way the sailors spoke. To be fair, she had spent a lot of time with sailors when she was still a failed apprentice under the Court Wizard. That seemed like a thousand years ago, now that she thought about it, but she used to visit taverns like that, on the docks of Sol City when she could slip passed her old teacher. That might have something to do with the fact she was a failure at the time, but still...
She was about to open her mouth to say something, but Shaa soon interjected with his heavy stomps and witty comebacks, and she couldn't help but smile openly at the exchange.
It didn't come as a surprise that Shaa was wanted in the capitol - though she had thought the information had come a bit twisted, and a part of her had hoped it was outright wrong. But apparently it wasn't. It would pose some kind of difficulty for them, since Shaa wasn't... Well, wasn't the stealthy type, just as much as she wasn't. But the minotaur was imensely more dificult to hide... They would have to have some kind of plan there to stay out of sight, and since the both of them were quite known around Charon, that might prove fairly difficult.
Well, they would deal with it when the problem arrived at them, right?
She didn't interfere in their exchange, following Shaa out of the place as they went to find Captain Butters. Once out of earshot of them all, she got back at Shaa as they walked.
"If you're that wanted in Sol City, perhaps we should have a plan as we arrive. Do you have a safe place to stay?"
Kamille herself had a lot of friends in Sol City, but... She couldn't possibly think they wouldn't want to give Shaa over to the authorities... And it didn't help that half of her friends were related to the crown or nobility, so any of the places that would be safe for her probably wouldn't be safe for Shaa.
As they approached Captain Butter's "bathtub", Kamille hesitated, the smile sliding off of her face. It wasn't the smell - she had a strong stomach for strong smells, she could pride herself of that - but... Good lord that was a large, seemingly precarious bathtub. Seatravel would often leave her a bit on edge, but... That. That was pulling at her limits.
Okay. Okay. She could do it.

She looks over at Kamille and smiles. Ehh Wanted is kind of a stretch. It’s not like I am a criminal or anything. I just happened to rub some people in authority the wrong way. And there were some questions about a recent break in. And….I may have been implicated in the destruction of a woman’s rest room in one of the municipal jails, but I fixed that wall. To me they are just being grouchy. And there was that fight over at the temple, but I WASN’T EVEN THERE FOR THAT ONE. Just clean up. Buncha racial proofing if you ask me. Shaa tried and failed to look as innocent as possible. Anyway, you don’t have to worry about me. As long as we don’t cause problems, it should be fine. Just keep me out of the ladies rest rooms he says with a wink.
As the two approached the docks, they find Captain Butter’s new “ship” moored up to a pillar as old as the town itself. The captain, one Captain Nathanial Butterswick or Butters for short, was on the top of the mast giving his new boat the once over. The Captain was a young half elf in his late 20’s, long blond hair and a clean shaven face revealed a cheerier disposition than most in his profession. His original boat, to which Shaa had referred to as a bathtub, was actually a two man sloop that barely had enough room for crew, let alone cargo. This new ship was much larger, but still had all the charm of a tea cup with a cheese cloth bottom. Shaa’s only comfort was that he could walk on water if it came to it.
Ahoy Shaa! Come to see my new vessel? She’s a beauty isn’t she? Said the proud captain beaming. She sure is something, I’ll give you that. But we aren’t here for sight seeing. The captain perked up further. If you are looking to charter a fishing expedition, I’m sure we can accommodate you. You know the fighters guild and I have a long standing history, yes indeed. Shaa shifted a bit. No fishing today, we just need a ride out the big island. The captain came down from the mast to talk a bit more carefully. A bit of the old magic is it? Shaa shifted again and got a serious look. We just need a one way ticket out, no questions. Captain Butters holds up his hands and approaches Kamille. A gentleman never kiss and tells my lady. And a true gentleman never asks. He gives a little bow and motions towards the gang plank. We can go whenever your ready.

Kamille had always been a little uncomfortable on boats, most of the times keeping herself hammered until it was time to dock again. Hopefully she was starting to manage her anxiety over it better, the same way air travels have been. She never thought it was possible to be a creature of the earth and airborne at the same time, until Kalaf came into her life and showed her it was possible. Perhaps Shaa would help her get over her anxiety in the sea without getting absolutely drunk.
Perhaps not.
She couldn’t help but chuckle at the minotaur's attempt at explaining how he was not "Wanted" despite the several wanted posters with his features.
"Do you want me to do something about it? I have a few contacts among those asshats of Sol City... My ex-fiancee is still at the Court, I'm sure he owes me a favor or two... It may take a while though. Damned bureaucracy."
The Witch tried not to look so uncomfortable when examining the boat, offering the Captain a shaky smile and wary glance. Her smile turned a bit warmer when the half elf came up to her. She was familiar - perhaps too familiar - with the seamen's charm, and despite never biting on it, she seemed to enjoy the flattery. Kamille gave the man a quick, curteous curtsy as he took her hand.
"Mr. Shaa puts a lot or faith in you, Captain. And I hold Shaa in the highest regard, so I'm sure it will be a smooth travel."
Or that's what she hoped, still holding to the Captain's hand firmly as he helped her through the gang plank. She set foot on the deck, and it still didn’t look solid enough.
".........do you drink, Shaa?"

Shaa chuckled a bit. Please, don’t trouble yourself about it. I already owe you more than I could ever hope to repay. No reason to add anything on top of that. Between you me and the lamppost, the chase is half of the fun. But, thank you for the offer.
Shaa stomped around the boat a bit to check it before Kamille came aboard. He had spent enough time sailing to be able to get a good sense of a boats sea worthiness. Everything seemed ok but he would keep his eyes open. He had an emergency escape plan for them both if it came to that. Hopefully, it wouldn’t come to that.
The elven captain finished releasing the rest of the lines. The boat moaned a bit as it loosed and started into the open sea. Shaa returned to Kamille to check on her. Do I drink? Meh, I have been known to partake in libations on occasion. He busts out laughing again. Ok ok, I have bar stools in taverns named after me. I travel a lot. I have three stomachs. I may or may not have drunk more than one mercenary under the table. So, in short, yah, a bit.
He looked over the bow of the ship and watched as the village started to fade into the distance. The stale smell of left over fish was slowly taken over by the clean salty air of the sea. He was starting to feel better by the moment. The captain approached him from the side. We are well on the way. To be honest I’d rather be fishing. Less mess than you usually leave my friend. Cleaning fish guts included. It may not look like much but my new boat can move when it needs to. We should reach the shore by nightfall. Lunch in 20. The island. It was just a stop for them but who knows what could be waiting.

The chase is half of the fun? To that, Kamille openly, gleefully laughed. She understood that more than she was ready to admit herself, having pranked and annoyed well over half of the nobility of Sol City in her youth. Gods, she was a prick......
Unlike the expected, the smell didn’t seem to bother her much, and Shaa's company and diligence seemed to put her at ease. His admission of drinking enough to have stools in bars named after him made her chuckle once again, so she took the giant minotaur by the hand and whispered to him, making sure the half-elf couldn’t hear them.
"How about we try and find the good Captain's hidden stash before lunch?"
They may as well get busy with something until they arrived, no use in getting worked up about the future. When they arrived, they could start worrying about where they would stay. Improvise. Yes, she was good at that.
"You know, Shaa... When I was still an apprentice, I lived at Sol City. And like a good apprentice, I spent most of my time not doing what my Master told me. I actually loved to spend a lot of time on the sleezy taverns by the docks, making friends out of sailors, pirates and merchants. Maybe we could get in touch with a couple of friends..."
Befriending the high society and the scam artists alike, it was no wonder Kamille was so well connected. She was even impressed some nobles still had lots of words to spare to her, and sometimes even gifts - specially given how mischievous her younger self had been.
"I must agree with you, then...... The chase is half of the fun..."

Shaa carefully considered the suggestion. Sure, I’d love to meet some of your friends. It would help give us some legitimacy for being there in the first place. Once we take care of business, we can charter a boat on the other side of the island that can take us closer to our… Shaa checks over his shoulder to make sure the Captain is not listening to our more pressing destination. Shaa produces the bottle they “acquired” from the good captain’s private stash. But no reason we can’t enjoy the trip right? Shaa laughs a bit as he offers the first swig from the bottle to Kamille.
The two laugh and drink while the captain keeps himself busy with the work of keeping the ship afloat and on course. As the light fades over the sea, Shaa settles in to a hay pile that he finds down in the storage hold, the beds being much too small for his bulky frame. The dark room reminds him of his home underground, made even more comfortable by the swaying of the boat. He had never been sea sick and felt a pang of sadness for those who couldn’t enjoy the strong roll of the open sea.
He isn’t sure how many hours had passed when he feels a tug on his arm. Looking up with with sleepy eyes, but able to see in the dark, he finds the urgent hand of the captain. I’m sorry to wake you my friend, but…. The captain looks about the dark room nervously. We …we have some very uninvited company. Shaa’s sleep deprived brain was having a hard time understanding what the captain was saying. They were in a small boat in the middle of the sea in the middle of the night. What kind of company could possibly show up? He gets a sudden flash back to the time he was eaten by a giant fish. Not wanting a repeat of that scenario, he decided he needs to see for himself. He rubbed the grit from his eyes and follows the captain back up top.
Looking around the bridge of the boat, he doesn’t see anyone and scratches his head in confusion. The captain pulls him over to the port side and points out over the water. Over there…. Do you see it? He asks with a tremble in his voice. Shaa squints to where the good captain was pointing. It takes a minute, but then he sees it. A large ship with green luminescent sails cutting through the water. The sails gave the ship an eerie glow but no other lights could be seen from where they were. Ummm what is that? He asks, still wondering if he’s asleep. The scene is to surreal for him to absorb properly.
I’ve heard the stories…. Stories of a ship that sails here sometimes when the conditions are right. But…I…I never believed them. Sailors just tell stories. You know…to pass the time, keep things interesting over the long days. If I hadn’t seen it with my own eyes…. Shaa covers his hand over his face in disbelief. Of course. Of course the weird one in a million thing happens on THIS voyage. Ok man, what is it? He chides in frustration. Just tell me. Zombie Vampire Goats? Ancient God who got his golden sock stolen? Cursed 3 headed mermaid? What? It was days like this that made Shaa think he had been adventuring too long. Ghost pirates… GHOST PIRATES of course, should have guessed. But they are not ORDINARY ghost pirates. I need you stop yourself there. You saying ORDINARY ghost pirates like ghost pirates are just this standard thing around here. Just what makes these guys weird? Well ummm….the ship…it’s um…. Spit it out. It’s haunted…by pineapples. Now Shaa knew had to still be asleep. I’m sorry, what now? Did you say…that the ship….that glowy ship over there is haunted….by fruit? Pineapples yes. How in Ginma’s beard does fruit haunt anything? How should I know! I told you I didn’t believe the stories. But all I know are that the conditions are right and there is the ship…and it’s heading right for us. And the pineapples are pirates? Yes, they pillage ships of all their fruit. That’s like 1/4th of what’s the in the hold down there! Well now you see the problem! Guy has to make money. Minotaur charter money doesn’t keep me in cheese and cabbage ya know.
In the distance, Shaa could hear the singing of sea shanties coming from the spectral boat. They’re singing!? The captain gets a look of confusion on his face. That’s weird, no one ever mentioned singing? THATS the weird part? Shaa was unsure if he should wake Kamille for this. Even if he did, what would he say?

Kamille felt at ease in Shaa's presence, enough to forget about the fact they were in a boat for a couple of hours. That, or the ale worked its own thing. The way Kamille chugged on it would make a sailor proud, incredibly not proper for a lady - but, just like she mentioned, she was far from a lightweight. Still, when it was time to rest, she found herself a net and slept. She didn't seem to mind the accomodations as much now, hugging the empty bottle of the ale.
Most of the night went on without a hiccup, but then there was some movement upstairs that seemed to grab Mischief's attention, and the raven promptly went to wake Kamille up, picking at her pointy ears as she rose, still with a groggy voice.
"I'm up... I'm up... what... Why did you wake me up, Mischief.... Are we there yet?...."
While Shaa was still considering whether to wake her up or not, she showed up besides them. Kamille was still holding the empty bottle when she was guided by Mischief upstairs. Why the stupid bird was waking her up? They haven't arrived yet!
"....what are you guys-...."
She stopped in her tracks, as her gaze found the.... uh..... She rubbed her eyes. Kamille could brag about seeing and knowing many, many things during her travels. One thing she never saw before was..... that, whatever it was. It certainly completely woke her up with the subtlety of a slap in the face. And... they were singing?!??! What on earth was going on there? Was she still dreaming? She took a look at the empty bottle still in her hand.
"I gotta stop drinking......."
Then she handed the empty bottle to the Captain, before squinting her eyes once again at the sight. Yes. Those were pineapples. Yes. She was not mistaken. What the-
"......huh...... Gentlemen? What's the protocol here? What the fuck is going on here, for fucks sake? Does the attraction ahead comes in with the travel or do we have to pay extra?"
The Witch was clearly in disbelief. So far they hadn't done nothing, but she assumed that wouldn't take long to change....

Shaa was so confused and enamored with the sight that he almost didn’t notice as Kamille appeared bedside them, wondering some of the very same questions. Shaa didn’t think beating around the bush was going to get them anywhere so he was just blunt about the situation. Ummm, you are awake. We are being attacked by ghost pineapple pirates after the fruit in the hold. Shaa looks over at the captain. Pirate Pineapples…Pirapples? The captain looks back at him and shrugs. Yeah, we are being attacked by pirapples who are apparently also musical…which somehow makes this worse? The whole situation was so ludicrous Shaa, for the first time in a long time, was kind of at a loss on how to approach this. Surely, even if these things were dead, they wouldn’t attempt to raid their boat if they had known two of the most powerful mages in Charon were aboard? As Shaa considers the implications of eating undead fruit, the first volley is fired over their heads.
From the boat, Shaa can see several dark shapes scurrying around the deck. They are suddenly lit up as firey projectiles are launched one after another from the ghost boat near their own ship. The attack wakes Shaa up from his stupor, the light of the flames glinting off the water. Ghost Pineapples or not, those fireballs could do some real damage to boat if they started hitting. Shaa looks over at Kamille. I don’t know about you, but I’m not planning on being taken out by spectral… As he is monologging , a fireball shoots right at his horned head. He manages to move out of the way just in time as the fireball crashes onto the deck. To his surprise, the fireball is more gooey than hard. Was it…..organic? Something else was going on here.
The Captain runs over and douses the fire with a sand bucket before it can spread to the rest of the boat. We can’t keep taking these hits! This isn’t a battleship. Please, do something! It was a funny curiosity before but those jerks just tried to shoot him in the face. Now it was personal. Watch the ship, I’m getting a closer look. With that, Shaa runs and hops over the side.

Whatever type of haunted fruit they were, that was still a very real fireball. Very real and weird fireball - and she knew a lot about fireballs. The captain was quick to put out the fire as the attack started, but even before she could think of a plan of action, Shaa was already jumping to the other side.
"What?! Shaa! Are you mad?! Oh, my... Captain! Take cover!"
At the same time Shaa leaped over to their side, Kamille saw as a few shadows bounced over to their bathtub, landing on the deck with a loud thud... and the clinging of weapons. The captain had just put out their fire from their fireball, and Kamille didn't even got a chance to examine what was that gooey thing it left, when the attack came to them.
"Captain! Have you ever thought about making your ship fireproof?!"
That limited her a bit, as she couldn't just burst out in flames in the middle of the deck. She also didn't have the earth beneath her feet to aid her and just raise to the occassion... literally. She would need to get creative.
"You guys look like you need a hug!"
Saying that, the Witch dramatically took off her feathery cloak with a large gesture, except... Except for a second, it looked like the cloak had life of its own. The black feathers rearranged to shape a large, raven-like figure, with a black beak and wings. The figure promptly leaped over to the first pirapple before her, and before he could react, its large black wings embraced him in a warm, comfy hug [1]. The fabric wouldn't hold the pirapple for long, but for a hot second, the other two that were with their enveloped friend stopped on their tracks to try and understand the severity of the situation, and if that was an actual dangerous creature they needed to fight. Their hesitation granted the Witch enough time to cast another spell, this time summoning forth actual ravens that seemed to come from the blackness of the sky itself [2]. A dozen or so ravens descended upon the attackers, picking at their faces and pinneaple heads, clothes and just overall giving them a really bad time. The distraction would give them enough time for the Captain to retreat if he wanted, and Kamille to dissappear...
...only to reappear on the other side of the deck [3]. For now the ravens would keep the attackers occupied, but they needed to do something about the pirate's ship. As the Witch gathered her mana, a massive pool of reality-distorting power emanating from her, she tried to pinpoint the massive minotaur's location.
Do you have a plan, Shaa?! Can you sink the ship?[4]
Kamille knew it best not to doubt Shaa's destructive abilities, but she also knew that, like herself, the minoutaur jumped into situations without thinking everything through.
