Fear was a feeling the young Plague had known for a long time, its was a constant presence on her childhood, the only thing that never left her. It was fuel, inspiration to live a better life, to change ones destiny. Fear had long left her life, since assuming her new identity the woman managed to push things like fear, love, hunger, thirst and other feelings out of her mind. There was no room for things like this in her life, no need to be scared when you were the scariest thing lurking in the shadows.
It was another bright fall day in Sol City, the streets were bustling with merchants, tourist and travelers looking to earn their mark in the world. Like always it was a busy day, a lot going on with many people going about their business. Plague was currently moving through the city, making her way towards the slums located deep in the housing district. Dozens of odd glances shot towards her, something she was use to, as locals watched the dirty, masked woman cheerfully trod through town. She wore her usual attire, dirty leathers with a black cloak on, its hood over her head. Her face was covered in a crude doctors mask, giving her a foreboding look.
She was headed towards the slums, a few gifts in her bag for the local children who shared her street. Today was different though, for while she had recovered more food for the locals there, she had something else in store, something planned for herself. You see she had spent the last few months working on a plan, a scheme to free the citizens of Sol city. Her maticulious plans were finally starting to culminate, all she had left to do was take the final step.
"Oy, you there, where ya tink ya going?"
A city guard had noticed Plague, and for some reason decided to make an ass of himself. Gripping his spear the large armor clad man began to shout out at the girl, instantly moving from his post towards her. She knew this man, an up tight wanna be knight who worked for the city. Having run away from these kinds of men in the past, she knew what they were capable of, always wanting to earn a name for themselves. They took pride in beating up the weak and stealing from the poor.
Stopping in her tracks Plague turned and looked right at the man currently headed her way. If he wanted he could make things very bad for her, and force her to retaliate. Normally she would not have cared, but again today was special, today was unique. She did not have time to waste on scum like this.
"Im talking to you ya brat, where ya headed in tat silly littlle mask huh"

“ Thank you,” Zak said to the merchant as he stowed the package containing his recent purchase in his pack. He had ventured to this part of the city to acquire a very special gift. Now that he had accomplished the task, Zak found himself in the midst of a crowd as he walked along the street. Zak supposed that most people enjoyed the frantic pace and extensive activities Sol City offered its visitors. Zak, on the other hand, found it all to be a bit exhausting. Too many people, too much commotion, and not enough serenity for his liking. Give him the quiet solace of the plains any day over the hustle and bustle of Sol City. Soon he would be on his way back to the Sunset Plains for a visit. It would be good to be home for even the briefest time. As he walked along, Zak studied the other people going about their business on the streets. He frowned as he noticed city guards scattered about. From what he’d heard, most of them were thugs and ruffians that had been given too much authority, and often accosted people without cause. The worst kind of bullies and petty tyrants in most cases. "Oy, you there, where ya tink ya going?"Zak shook his head in disgust as he heard one of the city guards call out to a masked figure that to Zak appeared to be minding their own business. The person wore a black cloak and a makeshift doctor’s mask making them stand out from the rest of the crowd, but Zak didn’t think that alone should warrant a confrontation from a city guard. Clearly, the guard was bored and hadn’t filled his daily ration of bullying.
Zak slowed when the cloaked figure stopped and faced the guard.
“Im talking to you ya brat, where ya headed in tat silly little mask huh”Zak’s instincts took hold. He moved closer to the masked figure, and stood a few paces away, watching.

Plague was no stranger to being bullied and pushed around, especially by the city guard. Having lived in Sol city all her life, these guards were like family to her, rude, hateful family that you wished would just go away. They thought that just because they had some kind of authority, they could push people around and act like their boss. On any normal day Plague would have hurled insults, poked fun and even toyed around with a few of them. It was rather fun to call them names then lead them on a wild goose chase through the slums.
Today however she had different plans, there was far more important business to attend to and she could not bother herself with some arrogant meat heads. She also knew she had to stand her ground though, if one showed weakness, these men would jump on it instantly, taking advantage of any opportunity that was given. So as the armored thug called out to her and approached, she simply stood there, glaring at him through the eye holes in her mask.
"Look I don't have time to deal with you today ok, so why don't you go find some other helpless fool to bully and get your rocks off to ok?"
The sass in her voice was clear, and it was obvious that this guard did not think very fondly of what she said. He gripped the spear in his hand tighter, a show of force for sure. His face turned red as he started to stammer, he was clearly not prepared for her back talk. After a second he managed to regain his composure, lifting his free hand as if to slap the girl across her masked face.
"Listen ya little shit, ill' ave your tongue for tat!"

Zak tensed. The damn guard was definitely on a tear today, looking for anyone to harass. Zak was hesitant to interfere, but the injustice of it all infuriated him. Petty tyrants were one of his biggest pet peeves, wielding their miniscule authority over others for mere entertainment. When he saw the guard raise his hand preparing to strike the woman, Zak moved up to stand beside her.
“What’s the problem, sir?” Zak demanded. At Zak’s approach, the guard pulled back his hand, but his other hand continued to grip his spear. “I see no need to draw your weapon when the peace has not been threatened.” He straightened to his full height, and glared at the guard.
“Who be you? Her keeper or sumting? Up to no good, I say. Both of ya.”
Zak spared a quick glance at the subject of the bully’s scorn before his stern gaze returned to the guard. “So you’re a mind reader, eh? You can tell what our plans are? Quite a skill, I’d say. I only wish I had that ability.” Zak laughed. “Well, you’re way off, sir.” This time, the word ‘sir’ came out of Zak’s mouth with an obvious sneer. “What if I told you that the only plans we have is to quietly stroll down your beautiful boulevard without having anyone harass us?”
The guard stammered, obviously a bit intimidated confronting two individuals instead of a lone woman. Zak took advantage of his momentary confusion and turned to the woman. “Shall we continue our journey and leave this weary guard to his duties?” Or should we kick his ass like he deserves? he added silently, hoping his expression would express his desire to the woman.

Plague was almost baffled, taken aback when the stranger approached, defending HER? Never in her life had one of the citizens of Sol city come to her rescue, especially when confronted by a guard. It was normally the other way around, some nosey by stander wanting to see what all the commotion was. Her eyes watered beneath her amber eye sockets as this man defended her, basically telling the guard to get lost.
In any normal situation, on any average day, Plague would have happily teamed up with this stranger and beat the hell out of the guard. She would have dropped most things, taking a moment to humiliate the city guard. But today was different, special, and she didnt have time to waste on a thug like this. So as the stranger was attempting to pull them away, Plague only offered a simple curse under her breath towards the guard.
"This bone head has already cost me enough time. Thank you stranger for the help, but I really must be going. I have somewhere very important to be and this idiot has already cost me precious time."
She shot another evil glance toward the guard who was now taking a few steps back, his grip still tight on the spear. He was now second guessing his actions, after having a more notable looking individual call him out on his shit.
"If I ever see you again, I wont be so nice. And for you mister, I appreciate the help but I dont have any money if your looking for payment. I really cant stay and deal with this anymore. "

Now thoroughly embroiled in the woman’s situation, Zak knew he had to see it to its end no matter the outcome. Usually Zak didn’t involve himself with others’ altercations, but the arbitrary nature of the guard’s actions caused Zak’s anger to rise to the surface. And with it, Zak’s mana swelled, sparks flickering at his fingertips.
With his attention still alert to any movement by the guard, Zak nodded toward Plague. “You owe me nothing,” he growled. No sooner had the words left Zak’s mouth when two more guards came into view from around the corner. The guard’s bravado returned now that he was no longer alone, and he moved to stop Zak and Plague from leaving the area.
“Where ya going? Didn’t say ya could go.” He turned to the newly arrived guards and said, “Deez two are up to no good.”
Zak groaned as the other two guards moved toward them. Passersby had been ignoring their altercation when it had been just the three of them, but now that other guards had joined the fray, most of them now scattered away. Zak noticed a few locals had remained and stood watching from the shadows.
Zak had hoped that things wouldn’t escalate, but he was more than ready. Zak straightened to his full height. “My friend has a very important appointment. Let her pass,” he commanded as his body began to hum with the elemental forces building within.
