The lightning fields were a volatile path this time of year. The storms that marred the landscape over centuries could crest he mountains any moment, turning the barren fields into a lightning filled hell-scape. Ray had been guided here by Qil, who seemed more than certain that The Wanderer wished them to tread there. Ray was full of doubt despite being guided here by a celestial. He had lived in the Dragon's Cradle and traveled it extensively, going to the lightning fields this time of year was a death sentence.
Ray walked quickly, hoping to simply obey and survive the ordeal that he concluded must be a test of obedience. So far the sky was cloudy but storm free, the white rock formations that dotted the land like scars were almost beautiful. It reminded him of his own wealth of scars, like the land he felt he had been created with no choice but to receive them. The mountain range to his right coast a long shadow over the landscape, combined with the barren waste on his left it gave the land a feeling of dread. As if some impending disaster was looming, encroaching alongside the shadow cast by the mountains.
He wore a thick brown robe with the hood pulled up. The right sleeve was missing, loose fabric hung in place of it. Under this robe he had heavy leather boots lined with black fur. On his side was sheathed a small saber with a worn leather handle and a slight hand guard. He carried a light pack and had a heavy leather-bound tome on his left hip with a smaller journal strapped atop it. His whole outfit was covered in ash and dust from the road. His hair was black with some gray streaks, receding into a widows peak. He was clean shaven, with grayish skin and pale green eyes.
"What could we possibly gain from this..." He thought to Qil.
"Experiences of pain that lead to... understanding and... wisdom." He seemed almost treacherous, like he was in on some elaborate trick...
Ray gave a long sigh at the unclear answer, what had he even expected...
"Wanderer protect my path, clear the skies and guide my steps." A prayer was the only answer he had to being told he was about to experience pain.

Storm clouds rolled by in the far distant, slowly encroaching on what started out as a beautiful day in the Dragon's Cradle. It was not rare to experience storms out here in the scarred lightning fields, in fact it was more rare to not experience a storm, which was what made today so wonderful, the ability to see the clear blue sky dotted with whimsical free floating white clouds. A tall, pale wood elf took in a deep breath as he admired the scene, looking out over the rough and weathered land, which incidentally matched his own exterior. With his dark grey cloak blowing in the wind and his hood up, covering the scarred face of the wanderer, the elf just absorbed the scenery in, knowing that it would not stay this way for long.
He had been making his way east, coming from the frozen rigid waste of Frost Gale to the cradle, using the break in weather as his chance to navigate the open fields. He was headed to Zeinav, and desperately did not want to take the underground passage ways of the mountain ranges. So instead he opted for the more dangerous of routes, one that was proving to be far more beautiful and lovely than the stories had told. Continuing across the marred landscape he tightened the draw string on his hood and pushed forward, wanting to clear the fields before nightfall. His leather boots peddled the rocky earth, a large long bow strapped to his back and his full arsenal of weapons attached to his hip.
Hours passed as Kalos continued his journey, his mind alone, basking in the silence of his thoughts. Something caught his attention however, a figure moving across the horizon. The elf thought that he would get lucky enough to not run into anyone out here, after all who else was insane enough to risk the trip. Maybe this person who was getting closer had also decided to use the break in weather to navigate the waste. Regardless of this persons reason for being out here, they were a stranger and Kalos was not going to risk it. Pulling off his bow, the man simply held it in hand while watching the stranger approach.
When he got close enough to make out details, he could see that is was another cloaked male, a human who was also traveling the lightning fields. He looked simple enough, but Kalos did notice the weapons, making a note of what this man could reach for if he decided to attack. Kalos stood tall, lowered his hood so the full view of his scarred, gray, elven features came into view, long silver hair falling down his slender backside. With one hand he held his bow, the other cupped around his mouth, calling out across 30 feet of waste so the man could hear him.
"Greetings weary traveler, I apologise for being rude but I am going to have to ask you to remove any weapons from your person and lay them on the ground. I have had a long day and don't need to risk getting mugged by some bandit lord today. If you would kindly oblige, I will be on my way past you. "

As Ray saw the stranger in the wastes he felt an uneasiness arise in him. Something felt off to him, perhaps it was only Qil's earlier words making him extra paranoid. The figure's clothing and mannerism gave Ray more of a reason to be paranoid. When he drew the bow into his hand and stopped Ray was put more than on edge. Was this to be the source of pain Qil mentioned?
Ray walked on, undeterred, with a storm likely brewing he could waste little time.
"Ahh, a storm, as predicted." Qil seemed satisfied, excited almost.
The sky was still clear though and Ray could hardly imagine Qil was describing this man as a storm... As the thought faded the stranger called out for Ray to drop his weapons, going so far as to call him a bandit lord. Ray almost chuckled at the idea and the memories it invoked.
"No need for worry. I will comply to give you peace. Though I think you should be the one I'm weary of, having drawn a weapon already." Ray continued to walk, drawing his sword.
He dropped it without a thought, leaving it behind as he continued towards the stranger. As the weapon was drawn a glint of light crossed its length before fading. A similar light would glow for a split second in Ray's eyes as he dropped the weapon.
What the stranger wouldn't know is that he could never truly be unarmed, his blades would rise to defend him if need be. With this peace of mind he strode forward with confidence along the road towards the bowman. Getting closer he saw the scars along his skin just as he heard the first crack of thunder roll over the mountains. He'd heard these storms moved quick but the sight he saw was something else. Here now, was Qil's storm...

Kalos was extremely surprised when the stranger agreed to lower his weapons, unarming himself here in the waste in the face of an unknown threat. It was very rare for him to run into someone so willing to comply with a complete unknown, and while it did in fact take him back, it also proved that he could trust this person, at least to the extent of passing each other by. Realizing he had come off threating and aggressive himself, the scarred elf returned his bow to his back, lifted his cloak to show the blade on his hip, and gradually made his way to the stranger. He wanted to look as innocent as he could, not gibing this man any reason to strike.
As he closed in on the man, Kalos made sure to keep about ten feet of space between the two, both to keep his own mind at ease but also not to make the stranger anymore uncomfortable than the situation was. Sure this might have been overkill to anyone else, but he was not use to meeting friendly faces, to him everyone was an enemy.
By now the two were crossing paths, Kalos moving past the mans position. He gave a simple nod and a forced smile as he passed by, now looking forward ahead to the rest of the journey. After another ten feet of space was trekked, the elf lowered his cloak and relaxed his body, sure that the encounter was over. Fate had different plans though, for not seconds after the duo broke each others sight, the ground began to shake, tremors rumbling through the surface of the ground as both men started to shake. Thunder rolled in the distant, which was instantly followed by the first strike of lightning.
This bolt of lightning was so well placed it was as if the gods themselves decided to throw it. With both men's backs to each other, neither one of them would have seen the lightning bolt strike the earth directly between them, almost equal in distant from both of them. However they both would have felt the energy course through both the ground and their bodies, waves of static pulsating outwards. Without seeing the strike itself, it could have easily been assumed that both men had cast a spell to strike the other in the back, at least that was what Kalos thought.
Quickly pulling his bow back out and instantly notching an arrow, the Elf spun around on his heel and took aim, holding the bow at the ready. His paranoia had gotten the better of him, convincing him that this man had used the oppurtunity to strike from behind. Now tensed and on edge, anything could happen.

As Ray closed on the archer he noticed the surprise on the stranger's face. Ray grew increasingly tense as he passed by the stranger who now revealed a sword at his hip. He held his hand open in case he needed to summon his blade back to it at any point. As they passed he relaxed, letting out a sigh. Qil had likely expected this to go diff- A strike of lightning hit the ground behind them, all Ray felt though was a blast of static energy hitting his back. His first thought was a spell that had gone awry, had it hit him directly it could've been much worse.
"Yes, Seeker." Qil was angsty, raring to go, he must've seen this coming.
He twisted as his saber flashed back into his hand. As he turned Qil manifested through him as Ray's eyes lit up with golden fire and an arm covered in pale golden scales burst into existence with a shining scimitar in hand. This new limb had appeared on the right side where before nothing but a stump lay. If this stranger wanted a fight he would have one.
"Wanderer guide my blade, your shield be upon me!" He yelled as he sprinted toward the archer, a golden ring appeared on the ground and moved with him.
On his left wrist a flash of light morphed into a glimmering buckler of the same pale golden scales. Ray flicked his arm and the buckler sailed through the air towards the archer. It shined with holy light, a shining disc gliding across the waste.
The storm began to envelop them, lighting struck in the distance with increasing frequency with some landing dangerously close to the two fighters.
[Used Circle of Life and threw Boomer Buckler towards Kalos] [Circle of Life - Unable to be harmed alongside any allies close by for two posts while in the circle this summons, the circle travels with you.]

Kalos gritted his teeth as he watched the man spin around, a glowing arm of some kind of arcane energy flashing from his body as where once was nothing, was now an arm of light. With a gentle exhale the elf allowed the notched arrow to loose, flying forward aimed directly at his opponents chest. It was a clean shot that would have fell any beast that called Charon home. He hated having to do it, to kill a random stranger without cause, but this flurry of action only further proved to him that this man was the source of the static energy and had ill intentions.
The shock would have been apparent on his scarred face as he watched a ring of energy form around the man, who was now rushing towards him. The arrow hit its mark, for it was well aimed and the man offered no attempt at dodging. He didnt need to, for whatever arcane trickery he had just conjured caused the arrow to simply bounce off of his chest and hit the ground, no damage being applied to what should have been a wound. This man was indeed a foe and Kalos was going to have to stay on his toes.
Next came the buckler, a shield that was normally used to protect, instead was now used to attack, flying directly towards him. He was going to have to react quickly, not allowing the skill of this man to hinder him. Gripping his bow, Kalos held it up as one would a sword or bat, swinging it downward just as the buckler entered his range. Using the moment of his swing, he struck the top of the shield, sending it flying down into the dirt on several inches from his feet, attempting to disarm this man of his protective device. Now it was his turn.
His range advantage had been taken away from his as Ray was now closing in on Kalos, the man rushing forward and preventing him from utilizing his bow. In one quick motion Kalos dropped his bow to the ground and pulled out his sword and dagger. Razor Fang, his long sword rested in his right hand now as the dagger, Dying Star, was now gripped in his left. A close ranged duel was going to take place as thunder continued to rumble in the distance, the storm quickly closing in as the heat of battle began to match the energy in the air.
Now in a standing defensive position, Kalos caused the enchantment on his dagger to pulsate, causing a blinding flash to illuminate from the small weapon directly in front of his attacker. With the man unaware of his enchanted dagger and full on rushing him, the flash was sure to affect him. Using this moment the elf crouched, squatting down to dodge any blind strike, bringing his longsword across the mans belly in one quick motion. It was a beautiful maneuver, body and steel moving in one quick fluid motion, like poetry. He was now crouched, supporting his weight on one knee, hoping his counter attack had been successful.
-Used bow to knock buckler to the ground -Used flash enchantment on the dagger to blind Ray for his next post. -Attempted to deliver a horizontal slash across the belly -Ducked to avoid any overhead strike or blind attack

As Ray closed the distance to Kalos he saw the archer smack his shield to the ground. The buckler instead simply bounced off the ground and sailed in a wide arc back towards Ray who caught it on his wrist once again. With the circle of life active he would be able to fight aggressively for the moment. With both blades in hand he prepared to strike out in a whirlwind of blades to overcome Kalos' defenses.
The moment he got close enough to strike him a blinding flash overtook his vision and the world went white.
"Careful, Seeker, brave does not mean rash." Qil sounded like a wise sensei disciplining a pupil.
Ray had no choice but to push his advantage while it lasted, despite having no sight he swung out in spinning slices to cover as much area as he could. With his short saber he swung low, hoping to catch the man's legs. With his larger scimitar he swung first at torso level then at head level as he finished his spin. Just as he stopped rotating a heavy force struck him in the abdomen. He felt the holy energy surrounding him push back against the blow, keeping it from his body as it sliced through his robe and slid across his stomach. It was a good move, and it had only landed due to his reckless charge.
Still blind he moved towards the blade's origin hoping to stay as close as possible to the archer. Just as his vision started to return he saw another bright flash surround him. He'd just been struck directly by lightning. The bolt of electricity travelled around the forcefield of energy from his head to his toes, leaving a static energy in the air around them and blasting up chunks of stone dust and debris into the air around Ray.
[Circle of life deflects sword attack.] [Ray swings small saber low toward legs] [Ray swings scimitar towards torso, then head] [Ray is struck by lighting which he is protected by due to circle of life, this sends debris and dust into the air.]

Kalos bit his lip and cursed beneath his breath as he watched the serrated, jagged blade of his slide right across the mans belly. He should have known and been more careful, such a foolish mistake. For where a gapping wound should have been was nothing but a small cut in the mans clothing. Whatever foul magic this man was using still lingered and had saved his guts from being spilled out. He was better than this, and needed to stay on edge if he were to over come this foe.
Before he could think of what to do next he felt a sharp pain shoot up his leg, ringing throughout the rest of his body. Apparently the man had been blinded, and used his own weapons to wildly lash out in an attempt to both defend himself but also injure the elf. A rogue blade swing towards his lower half would cause the blade to find purchase on Kalos's upper thigh, just slightly cutting into the mans leg. A small pool of blood began to form on the mans clothing as he tried to figure out the next move. He still had time to retaliate, preparing a counter attack on the man who was standing directly in front of him.
Nature had a different plan for the duo. Before either of them could make the next move a bolt of lightning had struck the man, coursing through his magically protected body. The force of the energy however was immense, coursing through his body and into the ground. The impact of energy dazed Kalos, erupting from the ground beneath him. Chunks of earth and soil were blown in all directions as his body was flung backwards, sailing about twenty feet away from the impact zone before sliding across the hard earth.
It took him a second to regroup, his eleven ears ringing, spots in his vision and a soreness from where he had hit the ground. Slowly rising to one knee the elf scanned the area to take in the scene, trying to understand what the hell had just happened. Dark clouds loomed over head, thunder rumbling again signfying the arrival of the storm. He needed to spot the enemy and put his guard back up before he had a chance to capitalize on the natural disturbance.

Realization of what had just occurred wouldn't come yet. Ray was sent flying into the air from the eruption at his feet and span about with no idea as to what was up or down. Had he not been blinded already he would be now, his vision returned for a moment before he thud roughly against the ground on his back. Raising his head up his vision returned slowly and he took in the distorted scene around him, trying to locate his foe. The wind and thunder now raged around them yet he heard neither, just a loud ringing. The place he had stood was now marked with the same white formations that the lightning fields were known for... had that been lightning? What a lucky time to have gotten so unlucky, if not for his magic he'd have died for sure.
"Seeker, return to the moment!" Qil was unfazed, as usal. It seemed he could still hear the voice in his head even over the ringing.
"Not even a bit surprised!? Did you know that was going to happen?" Ray spoke aloud though he couldn't hear a word of it.
He rose to his legs shaking slightly from the excitement of having been so close to death. Scanning the field he saw the figure of the elf as he rose to his feet, chunks of debris now rained around them as harsh wind pelted them with rain. All around the storm now surrounded them and occasional strikes of lighting would blast up stone and dust to be carried away by the winds.
Ray began to walk towards the man again, summoning his blades and buckler back to his hands from who knows where as the holy light surrounding him waned and he was now faced with a true risk of dying should lightning deem him a fitting place to strike twice. He uttered a silent prayer of protection that it might not be so and prepared for combat once more.
