-Small House-
"A safe haven for weary travelers and lost souls. Come fill your bellies with food and drink and your hearts with stories and laughter and peace."
This cottage is located towards the edge of Starlight City. If one were to venture towards the back porch, they could see the humble garden which Kou maintains, and where she grows all her plants and herbs. Behind their garden, past the fence, is a small lake, where Tarou is known to go fishing.
The inside of the house itself could best be described as… cozy. Compact might be a better word for it, though, as there are only four main rooms contained within: a sitting room, Kou’s bedroom, Tarou’s bedroom, and a kitchen.
SITTING ROOM
The sitting room is chock-full of comforts and furnishings. The couches and chairs make it feel… a little smaller than it is. A liquor cabinet in the corner is reserved for Tarou, as Kou rarely indulges these days. Oil lamps hang from the ceiling and tables are covered in handmade doilies, with books and Kou’s various retirement projects piled about. One thing is for certain – each blanket and pillow has been made with love in evert stitch. Kou’s energy and inability to sit still and do nothing in long amounts of time has culminated in this eclectic showing of crafts and hobbies. There is a small shrine in the corner with a portrait of a man who bears striking resemblance to Tarou. The offering bowl is always kept well stocked with fruit and flowers and incense. This part of the room is tended to by both Tarou and Kou whenever they are home.
As there is no guest room, guests stay on the couches or mats in the sitting room. Kou makes sure the hearth is lit all hours of the day and night, providing a source of endless comfort and warmth for any guests.
... Yes, it does smell like mothballs and old fabric.
TAROU'S ROOM
Tarou’s bedroom is plain, the way a soldier might keep their lodgings. He keeps it well-stocked with hidden weapons in the event any intruder might barge inside. Unbeknownst to Kou, he has a small compartment hidden under a few wooden panels on the floor. This is where he keeps his deadliest weapons, and his stash of cash. Any illegal paraphernalia he has is also stashed in here.
He hopes Kou never finds out about it.
Visitors are not allowed in Tarou's room, for his own privacy.
KOU'S ROOM
Kou's room itself is built with comfort and style in mind. She has a plush bed to ensure that she does not have any discomfort while she sleeps. Kou also has a large window with a few of the distant mountains and oceans. Tarou has filled Kou's room with clothes, gifts, accessories, and any necessities she might need. It is clear that he likes to use his money to spoil her, and she is utterly unused to fine things. He makes sure she never wants for anything.
THE KITCHEN
The kitchen is the most well-loved and used room in the house. Perhaps a touch bigger than even the sitting room, it is chock-full of all of Kou's favorite things. Her kettles, woks, teapots... any necessary apparatus you could imagine. There is always something cooking or brewing in here, whether it be drinks, a meal, or even just fruits and aromatic spices left on a pot to give the home an earthy, delectable scent. Kou adores this room, and she frequently spends her time in here baking sweets for her grandson. Curiously, there are no cookbooks; Kou has never had any need for recipes, and she remembers everything in her head. Well, almost everything. Old age has stolen some of her recipes away from her.
The outer wall of the kitchen possesses a large, hatched window which opens out to the patio at the side of their house. This patio contains a multitude of tables and chairs, surrounded by more garden space. This is one of Kou's favorite parts of the house; the window turns her kitchen into an impromptu restaurant, which is open to all of the community. Here, Kou will host dinners and events where everyone is welcome for a free, warm meal and some tea.
She has kept many hungry neighbors fed with this kitchen.
