Rena trills softly as she examines the stars hung high above, tilting her head and trilling softly to herself as her dull-taloned fingers inscribe what she sees onto parchment for later review. there's more stars there than she remembers, more shining pinpricks of silver light...the crow pauses in her work, cracking her neck and returning her attention to her more immediate surroundings. she smiles at what she sees, idly flaring a wing to pull her husband into an embrace as she lets out a low, rattling croak. Loci is staring intently up at the stars, his own skeletal hand almost a blur as he notes down one constellation after another. he's always enjoyed stargazing, so the opportunity to help reestablish society's understanding of the night skies is like a dream come true for the undead fledgling. Whistle is...less interested in the sky than she is in keeping Wind corralled, a task her younger brother isn't making easy in the slightest. she's not particularly frustrated, though, more amused by the game it's turned into... Wind is having the time of his life, scrambling through the crass and darting around trees as he circles his mother in an effort to keep away from Whistle. that's not to say he doesn't get to run around at home, because there's far more than enough space for him to wear himself down back at the murder's burrow, but this is a new environment, full of surprises and hidey holes he's never found... Wind, on the other hand, is happily snuggled up against her mother's other side, her rosy eye lights little horizontal lines in her sockets as she snoozes away...or, well, pretends to. undead that she is, the little skeleton doesn't really need to sleep, but it's...it's nice to check out for a little while every now and then. especially when she can do so tucked under mom's wing! 's nice and cozy, safe and dark...
Quest Name: Study the Stars Participants: Two or more Location: Moonglade Post Requirements: 4 posts per person, 200 words per post Reward: +1 Renown Description: Charon has been struggling the last year with many, many changes to its world view, the most jarring being the changes to weather, the environment and the star patterns above which were used for navigation. With the veil of the Sol Stone dropped, new stars, constellations and cosmic markers have been popping up, revealing that not only is the world bigger than once thought, but so is the sky. The crown is asking people to help record and study these new heavenly objects, to help better understand our location in the cosmos. Spend an evening studying and watching the stars, recording what you see.

Arashi was walking up a small hill, Mizu and Cookie accompanied him as he figured this Mission would be an enjoyable 'Family' activity, they weren't an actual family not by blood or even by law, but it was the closest thing Arashi's had to it even when he thought his parents loved him, due to them never being around it was almost as if they didn't. Right now they were under the cover of the forest, the sky obscured completely as they walked during the night, but not too long after the sun had set.
"Where were we going again?" Cookie asked curiously slightly concerned by the darkness around them. "You'll see we're almost there" Arashi's voice was soft and calming he was sure she would enjoy this as they never really done stargazing before, at least not together as an activity. Mizu looked at them both with a gentle smile she was walking a bit behind them but he was very happy that the kid he helped raise was still there somewhere even with the usual warrior exterior covering it up.
"A few more steps, there's the end of the forest see!" as they walked out to a cliff overlooking the ocean and most importantly the sky, they were far from most aspects of civilization which made the place all the more magical. Cookies Gasp was louder than expected as her eyes shone and sparkled and she bounced in her flight path.
"I thought we could do some Stargazing, it is technically a request that's been going around so I decided to have fun with it and bring you along." Cookie is still in awe of the sky and such so many specks of light dotting the otherwise dark backdrop of the night "And we appreciate it, in fact I'm sure she wouldn't have forgiven you were you to do this by yourself" Mizu chuckles speaking for them both and saying what was more than likely correct... in fact were Cookie not so entranced and happy she would probably be mad at him for even the thought that she would not come.
Nevertheless the group began to walk in search of a spot to sit down and watch the stars. but as they step a bit farther they hear a few giggles, Looking towards the source Arashi spots a few shadows playing around As his vision adjusts a little he notices the rest of the family that seems to have had a similar plan for tonight, it was a moonless night, which certainly helps to show the brightness and sheer quantity of stars. Cookie began heading towards the family without a second thought wanting to make friends and thinking this would be more fun with other kids around. Arashi smiles as he motions for Mizu to follow along, they both go after Cookie and to say hi to the family.
"HIIIIIII!!" Cookie waves as she approaches acting like they were lifelong friends of hers, the small pixie is easily excitable and Mizu giggles while Arashi shakes his head with a smile, both amused at how direct and friendly she is. Hopefully they wouldn't be too bothered by this, none of them mean any harm, but he knows that sometimes Cookie can be... a handful and if they wanted to spend time together as a family, maybe they didn't want other people intruding, still it was too late now, worst case scenario Arashi would have to teach Cookie about not talking to strangers... Again... She was always with him so it was never a problem, she also isn't that dumb as to not realize if she's in danger or if she shouldn't trust someone, or so he thinks... Regardless she had no qualms about approaching people to try and make friends.

Rena’s feathers briefly ruffle as she hears the child’s voice, the crow’s silver eyes briefly flashing bone white as she registers the little fairy rushing toward her murder - no, no. this is a child, not another Hag. She shakes her head to clear her thoughts, eyes once more shining silver as she offers the pixie an avian smile, “...well now, aren’t you a friendly one! where’re your parents, wee pixie?” those eyes flick up at the motion of the others approaching, and she lets out a sequence of notes, pitched to carry through their surroundings that they might reach all of her family. three simple notes, each with a meaning for the members of her little murder: regroup, safe for now, newcomers. as the echoes of those notes settle and disperse, she speaks once more, “...ah, is that your family back there? they seem a bit worried…did you run off, lort’yrlr ‘no?”
Bell tilts his head, tensing slightly when he registers the newcomer’s fae nature. they…they’d recently taken in an orphaned wind-pixie, so he and his wife were working to unlearn their almost instinctive fear and hatred of the fair folk, but it’s still hard…more for him than Rena, for reasons he still fails to comprehend…
…the little wind-sprite in question - Maelstrom, they’d been named - peeks curiously from the satchel on Rena’s hip, storm-gray eyes watching the newcomer in fascination, though they don’t leave the satchel. Mom had tasked them with letting her know if anything tried to grab the last pair of unhatched twins, and they were going to do exactly that…besides, it’s cozy in there. but…they’ll watch. it’s been a little while since they saw another faery - no, Keyke doesn’t count, she’s something else - so…they’ll watch. and maybe ask Mom if they can go play. maybe.
Wind tilts her head, rosy eye lights blinking back to rings in her sockets as she pokes her head out from under her mother’s wing, tilting her head as she sees the new - new friend! the little skeleton scrambles out from her spot tucked against Mom’s side, bones rattling in excitement as she rushes the stranger, “hi hi hello! who’re you? you look kinda like Mael, but…different,” the skeletal fledgling gasps, pupils changing to starbursts in her sockets, “are you a faery like Mael is?!”
the other members of the murder, having heard Rena’s signal, circle back in just in time to hear Wind’s last few words.
Whistle trills her amusement, raising one feathered eyebrow as she idly plays a wooden token with the rune for ‘song’ on both sides along her knuckles, “...well, this oughta be fun…been a while since anyone got the Wind treatment…”
Wind chuckles, idly spinning a crossbow bolt through his fingers as he watches his twin ramble at the faerie child, golden eyes full of fondness as he trills, “...never gets old…”
Loci tilts his head, glancing at the new fae child, then at the approaching group who are…hopefully their parents, then returns his attention to the stars above. If his murder needs him, he'll know. In the meantime, he has the stars to focus on...

Cookie giggles excitedly as the mother addresses her, "My dad is over there!" she points at Arashi who is still a bit behind, Cookie had sprinted to say hi so him and Mizu were still catching up. "Daaaaaaaaad!!! Come say Hi!" she yells at Arashi to hurry up. As the skeletal fledgling approaches Cookie and asks her if she's a Fairy, she nods proudly "Yes! I'm Cookie the wind pixie! what's your name?" she asks the starry eyed undead kid as this happens Arashi and Mizu finally arrive at the scene, "I'm sorry if she disturbed you, she's a very curious child..." He noticed the undead nature of half the family, it was an interesting dynamic, but he didn't mind it at all, one of his only and best friends growing up was from a family of vampires, and he's met a few well meaning undead as well, even if most people were terrified or at the very least weary of them, he had no reason to be, he could feel the family's warmth despite half of them being cold to the touch.
"Daaaad present yourself! You always tell me to do that!" Cookie chided him for not following his own teachings, Arashi chuckled "I was getting to that no need to be so impatient. My name's Arashi, Cookie calls me her dad, which I guess is technically true I did take care of her egg until it hatched..." Mizu waved while smiling warmly "I'm Mizu, Nice to meet you all, Cookie can be a bit forward and Arashi can be a bit awkward so please bear with them if you can" At that moment both of them looked at Mizu with a slightly shocked and betrayed eyes "Hey!" They said in unison wondering why she would expose them like that She Giggled, covering her mouth as they regained their composure
"A-anyways, we came here to do some stargazing and help with the request as well... Would it be wrong to assume you had the same idea?" Arashi looks over at the one farther away looking up while taking notes. in the meantime Cookie would gently pat Wind's head both of them starry eyed, although for Cookie it was more metaphorically speaking, she was very excited to make new friends.

Wind’s eye lights grow bigger and brighter in their sockets, the little skeleton beginning to vibrate as she lets out a keening sound that’s eerily similar to what a harsh breeze might make as it travels through a skeleton…concerning noises aside, she’s definitely excited, bones rattling and feathers flaring as she presses into the headpats, “I’m Wind through Bones, but everyone calls me Wind. Not to be confused with my twin, Winding Gears, who everyone calls Wind, she trills softly, then blinks, “...you’re a wind pixie?! Mael’s a wind pixie! Ho-hold on, I’ll get ‘em!” and with that, the little skeleton scrambles back to her mother. After exchanging a few chirps and whistles with Rena, Wind carefully opens the egg-satchel and reaches in to retrieve the tiny wind-sprite.
Mael is…rudely awakened from their nap by one of their skeletal siblings grabbing them from out of their nest in the egg-satchel. The little pixie squirms and kicks, biting ineffectually at Wind’s hand until the blasted bonehead shifts to holding them in her palm, at which point Mael distracts themselves checking over their wings for any damage. Finding none, the storm-eyed faerie turns to focus on Wind, tiny voice somehow managing to carry across the gap between hand and skull, ”...ye coulda bloody woken me up first, ye bedraggled dingbat,” despite the choice of words, there’s a fondness to the palm sized pixie’s words that refuses to be hidden.
Wind tilts his head, tensing a little as Mael is brought out. He’s rather fond of the faerie, and he’s seen enough to know that not everyone holds to similar, just as he’s unsure how welcoming the fae are to each other…
Whistle trills softly, cracking her neck and taking out her bayonets as she makes a bit of distance between herself and the others so she can safely go through her forms. She doesn’t need to, per se, but it’s a nice way to work the kinks out of her muscles and the aches out of her bones. Especially with all the strangers around…
Loci…is studying the stars. At this point he’s tuned out the world around him almost completely. The world can wait, barring an emergency. Right now, all that matters is the stars.
Bell chirps softly, offering Arashi an avian smile, “...pleasure to meet you, Arashi. I’m Bell, this is my wife, Rena, and these are our children, Loci, Whistle, Wind, Wind, and Mael”
Rena bobs her head respectfully as the chains of her curse make themselves known once again, twisting and curling and circling around her in an endless mirrored orbit, “...yes, actually. the change in the stars has brought great opportunity to my murder, and I would be remiss to squander it. besides,” she trills fondly, silver eyes glancing to Loci, "...my son would never forgive me if I made him pass up the chance to contribute to our knowledge of the night skies"
