The message had come not a moment too soon. Gwendolyn knelt on a nearby ridge overlooking Hearthside, a relatively new refugee settlement on the frontier. The sounds of chaos and fighting echoed from below, and from what she could see, the settlers were still in great need. Alvina whispered in her ear, telling her to wait for her time to strike. It would be fortuitous to wait for the head raider to trot along in front of her, one well aimed shot should take anyones head off. But from up here, it was impossible to tell Dorn from the rest of them. Her maul and Arkanon floated idly behind her, the warmth from the mauls flame keeping her calm in the blowing wind and overcast skies. It didn’t seem like there could be much longer to wait. Another building on the edge of town had just burst into flame from a raiders torch, and others nearby seemed to be threatened all the same. A blue shimmer began to climb up the Arkanons length as Alvina once more hissed in her ear to be patient. Their time would be coming soon. The being on her shoulder had supernatural intuition, maybe there was a complication that has yet to arise? Arkanon Lux Charge 1 Light Fae: Alvina (invisible) Quest Name: Raiders on the Storm Participants: Two or more Location: Dragon's Cradle (Hearthside) Post Requirements: 5 posts per person, 200 words per post Reward: Non-Residents: +1 Renown Residents: +2 Renown, 1 Mystical Archive Ticket (Mystical Archive Tickets are awarded per Player) Description: Hearthside is under attack by a large group of Storm Raiders, and you are needed to help fend off the attack. A group of 50 raiders, armed to the teeth, have stormed across the open fields and are now descending on the village. Their goal is to completely raze it to the ground. Locals have taken up arms and are doing their best to protect the village, but they need help. Stand with those who call this place home and help by killing five master level raiders, giving them any skills or abilities you would like. Fighting is just one side of the help needed, however - as those who can't fight need protecting, as well as the newly constructed buildings which are the target of torches and fire pyres. Dorn, the group's leader, is not with the initial raiding party, but has recently been spotted. The worry is that this may be the first of many groups prepared to attack. We must do everything we can to defend this place and not let it fall to the Storm Raiders. Special Requirements: You must kill five Storm Raiders in defense of Hearthside. These enemies are considered Master level threats and the skills and abilities you select must be roleplayed accordingly.

Rena tilts her head, eyes burning the cold white of frost-riddled bones as she watches the marauders tear through the town. She and her family had come to this place to recoup before resuming the hunt for their latest target…fortune seems to be with the crows today, as their mark had charged into town mere hours after they had arrived…
The crow trills softly, cracking her neck before letting a pair of bayonets settle into each hand1, intricate patterns of black frost2 racing along the blades as the chains of her curse twist and coil in their orbits around her. She steps out into the night, followed by her husband and children as she weaves through the panicked crowd.
Bell keeps close to his wife, keeping her in his aura even as his amber eyes scan for threats. None of the marauders have taken notice of them yet, and perhaps that’s for the best…
Loci lets out a low hiss as a marauder slashes at his sister, the little skeleton’s hand snapping out to strike the blade away even as Whistle ducks past the man to slash the backs of his ankles, a vindictive ruffling in the feathers around her beak as she cripples her attacker.

“Wait…. Now, stay low and take cover at the first building.” The Cat-God on her shoulder whispers. “Quickly, before the riders come back around” referring to a pair of raiders who rode vicious steeds around the edge of town, shooting arrows at those who would try to run away. Gwendolyn dashed out into the field that separated her rocky perch from the burning town. A raucous commotion got louder as she approached, the panicked cries of the villagers within all the more real up close. Her back slammed into the side of a building as she reached her destination, with not a moment to spare. She crouched into the shadows as the riders rode past, letting fly an arrow that slew an older gentleman not 30 feet away from her. She grit her teeth, with Alvina warning her to not get involved. Turning the corner onto the main street, bedlam unfolded before her. Flames reached towards the heavens as the streets ran red with blood and soot. Two raiders held a well dressed man down with their blades, as he watched what seemed to be a town hall burning from the torches thrown onto the rafters. “Do it” Alvina whispered, unleashing the magic within his servant, emboldening her mind and surging her body with adrenaline. “END THIS” Gwendolyn shouted, her mere presence knocking these rapscallions off their feet. (1) Undying Fervor (1/4) (0/1) A spell used by warriors to give them bravery and courage during even the most violent battles. When this spell is activated you become cleansed of all fear effects that may currently be present on you. In addition you can not be feared or affected by fear inducing abilities for the next four post. Once during the four post duration you can send a pulse out from your body, pushing back all enemies who are within a 10 foot diameter. This may cause them to stumble, fall down or slide backwards.

Rena tilts her head as she hears the cry from across the street, then shakes her head to refocus before hurling a frost coated bayonet into the the back of each of the shout shocked raiders’ necks, black frostbite flooding their veins and killing them in an instant even as she responds to a warning from Loci by spinning to hurl the two blades in her other hand at the two marauders that were creeping up behind her.
These two raiders are more difficult to take down, each dodging their intended bayonet and allowing them to drive into the wall of the building behind them.
Loci lets out an angry caw, his new, spectral feathers standing on end and quivering in restrained rage as he moves to keep himself between the arrogant, approaching targets and his Murder, his emerald eyelights razor focused on the two men and narrowed as they occasionally flicker a toxic, acidic green.
Whistle cracks her neck, striding up to stand beside her brother as the bandits charge the skeleton…Loci deliberately steps forward into the path of one, allowing his sister to sidestep and hamstring the other. The freshly crippled marauder screams in pain as he collapses and clutches at his bleeding ankles, while his companion goes tumbling over Loci’s skull, landing in a heap with a groan.
Bell cracks his neck, keeping close to his wife to ensure his aura stays around her. She…doesn’t have many spells that would benefit from his aura, but she has picked up a pair of earth-domain spells that might…regardless, he stays close, ready to perform the two deflections the magic that manifests him will allow, even as he hopes that it doesn’t prove necessary…

Her eyes dart towards the source of the icy spikes, seeing a group of quite unique avian-kin. It would seem that they were being harassed themselves, and yet they gave valuable time to assist her in her battle… “Ignore them” Alvina whispered in her ear, “focus on the objective.” The mayor remained cowered on the ground below her, overtaken by fear and sorrow. “He’ll be fine for now, we should return the favour”.
Sounds of protest sounded from her shoulder as she turned towards the gaggle of crows, aiming the gilded staff that floated behind her. A blue pulse erupts out of the tip, shooting between their wings and and piercing a raider in the upper chest. He looks down, briefly touching the smouldering crater in his armour, before collapsing to his knees, and then onto his face. Gwendolyn gave the crow woman a short nod, before looking back at her quarry. The mayor had scampered off, Alvina must have “encouraged him” to take shelter. No matter, all the better to focus on the task at hand. Stepping over the bodies of the raiders that lay in the street, she summons her maul, and takes a defiant stance against any who would dare approach. Arkanon Lux 1 charge shot. Rena tilts her head, performing a short hop to pop her skates out before darting first to retrieve the bayonets she’d lodged in the wall of a building, leaping up to grip the hilt of each blade before slamming her currently bladed feet against the wall to wrench them free and send herself skidding along the cobbles to retrieve the blades lodged in the corpses about a hundred feet down the street. She slips the frost coated bayonets up her sleeves, considers the human before her, then bobs her head respectfully before darting off with her Murder scrambling to follow as she skates through the streets, reaching up with a hand that crackles with black frost1 to grasp the hilt of her sword even as she races toward an unsuspecting group of marauders…
Bell grumbles under his breath, feet lifting off the cobbles as he spares a glance to his children, “...standard procedure, both of you. I’ve got to go support your mother, we’ll meet back up at town hall when things quiet down, if we don’t find eachother sooner,” and with that he’s off like a shot, fading smoke trailing after him as he follows his wife.
Loci and Whistle glance at eachother, then shrug - and then Loci steps into the path of a pair of arrows meant for his sister, the bolts shattering against his bones and feathers as he tilts his head at the pair of marauders who’d launched the projectiles, “well…I suppose now’s a good time to live up to the stereotype…” and charges with his sister at his side. The marauders panic, scrambling to nock another volley even as Whistle springboards off her brother’s arm to drive one of her own bayonets through the eye of one.

Theyre… a family? She wonders where the skeleton child fits in… though she supposes that it’s what you make of it. They all certainly seem to be competent enough. A scream coming from down the street alerts Gwendolyn to a raider riding quickly down the avenue, saber dragging along the cobblestone, rising to slay a passerby. Unfortunate, though there was little she could do about it now. She brought her fuming maul to bear, swinging swiftly and crashing it’s head into the rider. He crashed backwards off of his horse, which galloped quickly onwards without it’s master. Gwen stood above him, ready to bring her maul downwards, until a piercing pain crept up through her stomach. Looking down, the man had deftly wedged a hidden knife underneath her guard. Crimson leaked onto her robes, and she let go of her weapon. Luckily, Alvina seemed to have taken control from some hidden vantage, catching it from falling. It lifted, and with a thump landed on the raiders head, ending his struggle. Gwendolyn collapsed on the ground next to him, holding her side as blood continued to spill out. Arkanon Lux gently drifted beside her as she gasped for air, the arcane blue glow illuminating her. With a short flash of blue light, both the staff and the maul clattered to the floor, the energy that sustained them dissipated. Sacrificial Bond Living Weapon

Rena’s feathers ruffle in an avian grin, her eyes burning a pale, caustic white as she draws her sword, slashing the frost-coated blade along the sides of two different marauders as she passes them before jumping into a roll, skates retracting and - that is a crossbow bolt being smacked aside by her husband in a small cloud of dispersed smoke, the ghost glancing back and raising an eyebrow at her before setting his stance. He can only take one more hit, but he’s more than willing to slip back into the blades he crafted for his wife if it means keeping that hit from reaching her.
The two marauders who’d been struck cry out as black frostbite spreads a little ways from the gaping slashes across their sides, their comrades turning and charging husband and wife…
And then son and daughter are there, Whistle spring boarding off her brother’s shoulders to slash a woman’s throat before landing between the approaching group and her parents, while Loci’s eyes flicker acidic green before returning to their normal emerald glow as he weaves through the group, pausing just long enough for people to trip over his two foot frame as he moves to - his hand snaps out, snatching another crossbow bolt from the air and crushing it to splinters as he glares murder at the offending raider.

The healing magic flowed over herself as she awoke on the ground, surrounded by a puddle of blood. Alvina appeared, jumping up onto her chest as she lay there. The Cat-god grew a wicked, cheshire smile, before whispering to her. “Had your fun yet? Good, we’re done here. Leave the rest of them to the fates.” The many-legged cat said, before disappearing in a cloud of smoke. Gwendolyn grit her teeth, picking herself up a bit to look around. The town was in ruins, bodies lined the streets as buildings collapsed in on themselves in fiery plumes of ash and cinder. The family of crows that had been fighting the bandits seemed to be still embroiled in conflict. There were even many more that seemed to swarm throughout the village. But, she supposed Alvina was right. It was their conflict, not hers now. She closed her eyes hard, trying not to care what happened. Gwendolyn exploded into a cloud of scented smoke, disappearing from sight, and into the ashen sky. 1 Demon of the Mist Once per topic, you are able to turn your entire body into mist and become incorporeal for a few moments. For one post you may move through objects and obstacles, and traverse while in this form— but you are unable to interact with your surroundings, cannot cast spells, or attack. You cannot reform inside of a person or object.

Rena lets out an irritated trill, cracking her neck and making a vague gesture toward the crowd of marauders her murder had run through. Her eyes shine white as her magic flares, and a thicket of nettles and thornbushes rapidly sprouts1 in and around the group, the smoke of her husband’s aura flowing into her to bolster her casting2 as the raiders all let out startled cries and shouts of pain as the thorny vines entrap them. With that done, the crow thumbs a particular flower on her sword’s hilt, causing it to fragment into shards held together by a weave of thin vines. It’s this blade that lashes out once, twice, each time slashing the throat of the nearest undoomed marauder and sowing frostbite in their veins…
Loci stands as tall as his two foot frame will let him, putting himself in the path of projectiles meant for his family. It’s…annoying, and he’ll definitely need new clothes later - he liked this tunic, dammit - but it’s more than worth it to see the frustration and building panic on the archers faces as not one of their shots lands…
Bell stands with his wife, ready to sacrifice his corporeality and ability to support his family to block even one more blow…but it never comes. They’ve taught their son too well for that, the little skeleton practically dancing around the rest of his murder as he blocks arrow after arrow…
Whistle, meanwhile, has darted around the side, taking advantage of the darkness of both her clothing and plumage to slip unseen to a point where she can begin slitting the archers throats one by one, her eyes burning with a caustic red light all the while…
1 - Stinging Nettles - Spring Shop You cause sharp, thorny vines to sprout from the ground in a ten foot square, making it hard to walk through. Anyone who passes through this terrain will be cut by the thorns and will find their movements restricted, unable to boost their speed or leave the ground. If anyone gets cut or injured by the thorns, the caster will heal all surface level wounds, such as scratches and cuts. 2 - Spirit Shroud When the spirit guardian is summoned it creates a spiritual shroud around it, emanating from its body with the spirit being at its center. The shroud has a ten foot diameter and will move around with the spirit. Any ally inside of the shroud will have their elemental abilities enhanced, increasing the speed and size of an elemental spell that is either ranged or a non controllable summon spell aka a wall (an elemental spell is a spell that deals Fire/Lightning/Ice/Water/Wind/Earth/Light/Dark, only the caster must be within the shroud itself to benefit from this ability, not the effects of the spell being cast, i.e. a wall would be larger if it was outside of the aura as long as the caster of the wall was within the aura). The spell will move twice as fast as it normally would and be twice as big as any spell cast outside of the shroud. This shroud vanishes when the spirit vanishes.
