Rays of sun shone through tall bamboo stalks. The stalks' leaves and the greenery below shifted in the wind, swaying in and out of the view of the two humans trudging silently and slowly through the forest. Their eyes seemed glazed over, yet wide with terror, their skin starkly pale and cold. Occasionally, they'd share a glance, but their gaze held no familiarity. Neither knew who they were, who they were travelling with, or where they were. They had simply came into existence on this path, it seemed, and so they followed it. Their journey was silent save for anxious breaths and their own timid footsteps, both of which quieted as they came upon a fork in the road. Before them were two veering paths, no signage or direction in sight. The tallest of the two stepped forward, towards the right-most path, but the other one stopped him.
She held him back with an outstretched hand, and with a contemplating look, she began to speak for the first time- until her words were cut short by the sound of footsteps walking up the same path they almost went down. She looked to the man stopped with her, terror revived in her heart, as he gently pushed her hand away and leaned to look down the path. He saw what he vaguely recognized as a moon elf in white and purple adventurer's garb moving along the trail, hands lugging a small wheelbarrow rattling behind him.
The elf slowed to a stop, a look of curiosity on his face as he spotted the head of a wary human peaking through the bamboo blinds. His shoulders fell as he released his hold on the cart, annoyance slowly taking hold, as he stared down the man waiting on the path in front of him.
"Hello?" He called out, watching the human flinch at the sudden noise. Confused, the elf checked behind him, and on finding nothing, locked eyes with the man again.
"Is something wrong, there?" At this point, the elf was on high alert, approaching what he was sure could only be a trap. He moved slowly up the path, eyes narrowed, as the human began to back away. As the elf got to the end of the path, he stepped around the corner and almost collided with a figure much shorter than him. He slid back, raising his hands to fight, as he found the figure to be an equally surprised looking gnome on the opposite path.
