"Don't worry about it, we got bigger problems." Large hawk like wings sprout from his back as he takes to the air as well. [1]
Gerhart keeps pretty close to the ground though, not wanting to lose sight of the rustling grass. With both of them in the air it is much easier to track the bogaboo's movements. The creature likely doesn't feel fear, but it does have a good survival instinct.
His floating blade spins in circles to cut down grass as it goes, making sure the monster can't retreat into other places. Keeping it in front of them is the best bet, he just needs to find a way to set Astrid up again. Her hammer is going to be a lot more effective against the bones than a sword is.
The ranger tucks away the kukri for a moment to grab something out of a hip pouch. The moment he sees a flash of the bogaboo he tosses out a handful of pebbles, a sound of popping and flashes go off as the creature screeches and stands up in a flinch.[2]
That's the moment! Gerhart tucks his wings like he's seen Halcyon do and makes a bullet towards the creature. He grabs the monster's head and slams it down with the force and momentum of his fall.[3] Gerhart combat rolls to his feet as he hits the ground, the creature stunned a moment and slowed.

Zipping through the air, Astrid moves at such a speed that it’s hard to track anything specific. The knight is somewhere in a glad, and she’s not sure she’ll be able to see through the foliage to get a clear shot. Trying to prolong her time in the air, Astrid shifts her momentum once to send herself back up, lightning still crackling around her. And then, Gerhart strikes. That’s it!!
As soon as Gerhart is out of the way, Astrid uses the last burst of magical lightning from her spell to careen down on top of the Bogaboo. Lightning explodes out in every direction, electrocuting the undead. Taking both hammers in hand, Astrid deals two more blows, just to be sure that the creature is handled entirely.
Panting heavily and with the Bogaboo dead, Astrid looks over at Gerhart. “Nice work!” she says, stowing a hammer and rushing over for a high five. “I love it when we do that! Ya know, the, like, double slam from the air! It’s awesome!!” Giddy as can be, she pumps her fist and lets her prosthetic take on its original state, powering down from the intense magical output it maintained for a few minutes.
“Want me ta fix up yer armor?”

"It helps we both kinda fight the same." He grins despite gently panting, the chase was pretty exhausting. The floating sword returns itself to its sheath as Gerhart releases a breath. "It's wild with Shaa, then there's folks like Zarius or Caedes who are all quiet and oooohh." He wiggles his fingers spookily.
He had no idea the effect mentioning any of those names would have on Astrid, but he barely gives her time to process it before he's already on to the next question.
"Nah it's just a couple scratches, it's really not that bad. I can probably just polish out the most of it....though polishing dragon scale is way more of a pain than you'd think." He grins and gives a little chuckle before tucking away the rest of his weapons.
The ranger idly kicks the remnants of the skulls as he takes one last look around the area. Seems like this thing is good and dead...as is everything else that came at them. Weird these creatures were working in tandem....monsters usually don't do that, especially not undead and evil creatures like this. Why did they want this knight so much?
"S'pose I should tell Shaa about this...he's in charge of the guild now, ya know? Got an official sword for it and everything."

Astrid grins at him, nodding wildly in agreement at first. “Oh, yeah, adventurin’ with Shaa is a riot. Ain’t nothin’–” Then her energy fades hearing Zarius’ name. “ ... like it…” The socket holding her prosthetic in place feels like it’s burning. He doesn’t know about Zarius. And Caedes? Astrid hasn’t seen him since Vulcadreaus to know how he’s doing, not that their meeting made them particularly close. It was just a quick moment in time. All of the questions she asked of him during that time feel worse. No wonder Caedes was so hesitant to say anything.
But she shakes herself out of it and focuses on Gerhart’s damaged armor. “I know exactly how hard it is ta polish,” Astrid says matter-of-factly. “I fixed one a’ the holes ya got a few months ago after…one a’ our adventures. I don’t remember which one. But aye, the stuff’s tough ta work with.”
Astrid also takes a look around, also wondering about the reason for the creatures working together, but her attention whips back to Gerhart when he mentions that Shaa is in charge of the guild. Her eyebrows arch as high as they can in surprised delight. “What?! Good fer him! He was doin’ a great job keepin’ thin’s together while Athena was gone. Ah, man… I should go see him. Maybe he’ll be a little easier ta track down if he’s the official leader.” Considering she just helped Leandros with some tasks for the guild, and now she's working with Gerhart to help too, she really should see how the minotaur is doing. "Do ya... think he'd be alright with me droppin' back in ta say hi?"

Gerhart should've mentioned working with Caedes was ages ago, but time is weird. Plus he's done a lot since then like fight werewolves, met a god that now lives inside him, learned to read. Lots of things happening for the little orphan that could.
"I don't see why he wouldn't." Gerhart also didn't know about the Vikram situation. If he had a mind for political intrigue, it might bother him that he doesn't know a lot about the big events of the world, but he doesn't. He's far too focused on the present moment.
Not everyone can be everywhere and know everything, much easier to focus close to home and do what you can. At least, that's what he liked to think.
"Oh Athena is like safe by the way, Guild got her back and all....just seemed like after everything that happened she thought it was time to turn it over. Shaa's obviously the best choice...but if he starts asking me to do paperwork, don't tell him I learned how to read and write now."

“Oh, uh… ‘Cause…” She doesn’t finish that statement. Astrid figures it’s obvious that she hasn’t been part of the Fighter’s Guild for a long time at this point, but maybe that kind of thing was never an issue. Shaa is a friend, as are several members of the guild. Gerhart has a good point. “Nah, ya know, yer right. Ain’t a lot a’ folks that ain’t happy ta see me,” she teases with a wink.
“That’s real great ta hear,” Astrid says with a smile. “I was actually helpin’ Leandros with tryin’ ta get her back before I met up with ya fer this job. As long as she was gone, I don’t blame her one bit. Everyone deserves a break after all the stuff we’ve been goin’ through.”
She looks at Gerhart, a touch of worry in her eyes. “Hope yer takin’ thin’s easy. Takin’ lots a’ breaks an’ whatnot. I know I did. Da grounded me fer a while, so I spent some time at home workin’ on some new stuff, but it’s nice ta be out an’ about again. It’s real nice havin’ a home ta go back ta. Makes adventurin’ even better if ya ask me.”
With that, Astrid offers Gerhart a handshake (or a hug if he’d take that). “I’m glad we got ta work together again. It’s been real good seein’ ya.”

"I'm marking that down, someone said I was right, doesn't happen often." He laughs with a grin creasing his eyes.
He does take a slightly more serious face as Astrid continues, though with him the smile never really fully fades. The smile had been forced for so long it is etched into his muscles, but at least now he meant it when he smiled. It had been awhile since he was just forcing himself to cope with the feelings he didn't want to confront.
"Don't worry about me, I'm too stupid to die remember? Besides...it's nice having a home of my own too...but I think Rice understands that I can't really ever sit still. Lost my home too young to know what a home was....then when I found one it was a part of a traveling circus run by a man who was adopted into a family of travelers." The ranger gives a little laugh. "Rice, Hal, Thoman, all my brothers and sisters, you, Shaa....lots of people that would be disappointed if I die."
Of course Gerhart goes in for the hug, hook his arms under Astrid's shoulders to lift her up before setting her down with a groan, "That new arm is heavy, Gods what did you make it out of?"

Astrid can’t help giggling at Gerhart being impressed that he’s right. While Astrid does her best to stay optimistic most of the time, sometimes the anxiety around rough happenstance overcomes that. She’s glad that he’s someone else she can rely on to look at things both simply and optimistically.
When she looks at him, the serious gaze in his eyes comes through despite his smile, and she finds herself meeting his expression with similar energy. It’s always been nice to have someone like Gerhart to relate to. Despite their age difference, Astrid really does consider him a good friend. Two orphaned gremlin children willing to eat anything if it meant a full belly and sleep anywhere if it meant a night’s rest.
“I dunno why ya say yer stupid,” Astrid says before pointedly continuing, “There’s a difference between stupid an’ uneducated. Just ‘cause we ain’t the best at readin’ an’ writin’ don’t make us dumb. An’ just ‘cause we don’t know certain stuff people in different situations would know don’t make us naive an’ stupid. Just means we’re smart in different ways. Bet the two a’ us could find a meal anywhere that someone else might struggle ta find. Might not be the best thin’ ta eat, but we won’t have empty stomachs while other folks are twistin’ over with hunger pains.”
He laughs, and Astrid loses her serious tone to smile warmly. “Wish I could relate ta not sittin’ still. I sat in the same spot fer a lot a’ winters before finally pickin’ me arse up an’ doin’ somethin’ about the situation. Mostly thanks ta Zarius an’ Cantio. Still, adventurin' is fun, so why would I wanna stop?” She steps over to give him a hug, which she’s happy he accepts. “Can’t neither a’ us die. We got too many folks that love us now.”
And then, to her surprise, Gerhart hoists her up, which is not a thing that happens to the little runt often and makes her burst into a fit of giggles. Once her feet are on the ground, she starts fiddling with the connection at the shoulder. “Cobalt, steel, titanium, bits a’ copper…” Without warning, Astrid disconnects her arm, a spark of electricity breaking in the port, and she offers it to him. The magic holding the arm together doesn’t glow as brightly, almost entering a type of reserve mode to keep all the materials together for as long as possible. “Check it out! Me friend Fish an’ I made it together. Honestly, I couldn’t a’ made it without their help.”

"Ah it's just something my brothers and sisters used to say." He waves off the praise with a sheepish smile. "I don't really believe it...just kind of a funny thing to say, ya know? Like I know I'll never be smart like Rice or Zarius, but I get what you mean.....I guess...I don't know how to put it, but like saying 'I'm too stupid to die' is just sorta like my way to remind people that I'm gonna be fine."
He is glad to have the warmness return, never being one to dwell on the negative. Life was a serious of bumps and bruises for the both of them it seemed, but it was also kind of funny how out of all of that they ended up some of the more talked about names in Charon. Gerhart didn't often think about his reputation, but he wondered if there ever was other kids out there who heard about him and thought maybe they'd be OK too. That was probably more important than all the monster hunting at the end of the day.
Gerhart takes the moment to marvel at the arm and pretend he understands it. Somewhere a bird is miffed that Astrid would be so cavalier with disconnecting the arm, but in that moment the ranger is laughing as he shakes Astrid's now detatched hand before handing it back.
"Do I get to know why you have a cool magic arm or is it one of those things that it's too soon to talk about it? I get it if its the second thing, for the longest time I didn't like talking about the face scars."

Astrid ponders Gerhart’s reasoning and inside joke about why he says what he does, then she smiles and chuckles at it. “Ya know, that’s right enough, I s’pose. Whatever we can say ta help people worry a little less about us…” Her smile has a somber tune to it though because honestly, having people who worry about them is probably the best thing either of them could ask for. “Just means we gotta make sure we come home in one piece as much as we can help it.”
Which, she of course, totally disregards by disconnecting her arm and waving it about for Gerhart for a moment, grinning while he laughs. After the joke is over, she starts fitting it back into the socket. “Um… Well, it ain’t that I don’t want ta tell folks, it’s just that… I can’t really right now. But I’ll tell ya when I can.” With a spark of electricity, the arm holds itself fast in her shoulder and buzzes back to life.
Then she looks at him. “Ya know, I never really thought ta ask, admittedly,” Astrid says. She absentmindedly scratches at her own more recent scar, and when her glove catches the rough skin, her eyes light up. “Hey, we got 'em ta match sorta! I’ll tell ya where I got mine if ya tell me where ya got yers.”
No, the scars Astrid really doesn’t like talking about are the emotional ones.
