It had been a busy couple of weeks for one Javal Zarrias with so much going on from almost dying at the hands of an Incarnation of fear, work piling up, facing off against the Storm Raiders. He was tired and just needed a day to himself to rest and relax. He thought about what to do on his day off, he could head to a tavern and have some fun but he wanted to just be at peace and just not think of anything. So he decided to do something he always wanted to do, go camping. He was meant to go as a child with his father but never ended up going since…he’d disappeared. The fellblood decided what was a camping trip without company and invited his dear friend Ak’ka to come along with him. He sent her a letter delivered by his trusty delivery bird, Kiwi that read, “Dear Ak’ka I am going to go camping in Kingswood in a few days and I was wondering if you’d like to join me? I can’t promise that it’ll be free of undead, tricky potion sellers, or strange time dilemmas but I’m can assure you it’ll be fun. Meet me near the overgrown ruins if you'd like to join”.
He waited a day or so to hear back from her and when he did he immediately went on his way this time on foot leaving his steed at home to continue lazing around the ship as usual. The trip there wasn’t particularly difficult so travel was fast. After a day or so the fellblood had made it on time and was first at the scene it seemed as he sat down on the grass waiting for the orc warrior to arrive.

Hadn’t been long since Ak’ka fought off raiders in Hearthside; she was still nursing injuries from the battle. The merc didn’t like to stop for long… even slowin’ down left a bad taste in her mouth. But much as she hated to admit it, Ak’ka was getting up there in years, as far as orckin went. And the people of Hearthside needed help, so Ak’ka decided to stick around a little longer and help rebuild the village after the raiders fucked it up.
It was here she got the letter from her best bud, Javal.
Ak’ka’s ability to read common was shoddy at best but she got the general gist of it. Javal said he couldn’t promise no danger, but to be honest, Ak’ka wouldn’t mind if there was a bit of trouble. She could see it now. A camping trip with her friend, roughin’ it in the Kingswood, fighting beasts that lurked in the overgrown ruins. Man, she could already see it now. The perfect vacation.
Ak’ka wasn’t really much for writin’, so she just drew a shitty picture of a thumbs up, a grinning orc and snake, and the picture of two people punching the shit out of a horse under a bunch of trees and sent that back, figuring Javal would get the gist. By now they’d sent enough back and forth letters that he knew she usually only wrote in simple sentences and pictures.
With the camping trip set, Ak’ka packed up her shit, grabbed Keiga and her tree, and set out south.
-
She found Javal already sitting outside the ruins when Ak’ka arrived. Late winter was already getting warm, and she wasn’t the kinda gal to need much warmth, but she had a cloak already slung over her shoulder and her heavy pack over her other. Keiga slithered at her side, picking up his pace when he spotted Javal. He’d already eaten a couple’a mice, but he was looking forward to roughing it for the next few days. The two of them had spent too much time cooped up in inns and taverns lately.
Ak’ka grinned and raised her hand in greeting.
“Yo. Hope I’m not too late to join in on the fun.”
She raised up her bag, which was packed to the brim with food and camping supplies. A pick that looked like it was made for breakin’ ice was stuck out of the side. “I brought a tent, but I usually rough it on a bedroll under the stars. If we’re doin’ a classic trip, though, I figured we should have all the goods. So. You ready for some fun in the wild, Slugger?” Bringing Pets Keiga, Tidal Serpent - Counts against pet npc cap Bell Troll - Doesn’t count against pet npc cap

Javal sat down and drew on the dirt floor, always the artistic type (not really but he likes to consider himself one) inspired by the drawings that Ak’ka had sent him confirming their camping trip. He simply drew a couple of swords in the dirt, all of them in the shape of ones he’d like to buy in the future. The fellblood was about to draw another when he heard a familiar voice he’d grown to recognize. He quickly stood back up and smiled as he saw his friend, Ak’ka.
He spotted her loyal pet companion and gave him a wave excited to see the two here already.
“Of course not friend Ak’ka you’re right on time and I look forward to our most epic and awesome camping trip. The fun has just begun now that you and Keiga are here. I wasn't doing much but simply drawing on the dirt in the meantime".
Javal looked in excitement as the Orc showed off her bag, “Woah that is incredible Ak’ka a tent is great I usually sleep on the dirt and that’s usually not the worst. You came prepared and so did…”, he looked over and it finally dawned on him that he indeed did not bring his bag with supplies and food which he spent days preparing. It was because of him not telling anyone including his retainer Nadia that would usually quadruple check if he was ready.
He grimaced a little embarrassed at his forgetfulness in front of his dear friend, “Well it seems your readiness succeeded mine today Ak’ka we’ll have to rely on your supplies and the grace of the great outdoors. And on that note, I’ll say I am ready to face the wild and I’m sure we’ll have a lot of fun”.

Keiga didn’t have arms so he couldn’t wave back, but as the serpent approached Javal, he flicked the tip of his tail back and forth, tongue sticking out of his mouth in what looked like a pleased expression. He, too, was looking forward to the opportunity to rough it in the woods.
“Hello, Javal. Seen any monsters?” He asked, before remembering that the fellblood didn’t understand him the way Ak’ka did. The serpent inclined his head towards Ak’ka with a grin. “Ak’ka, ask if he’s seen any monsters already.”
“Calm down there, killer.” Ak’ka said with a laugh. “Keiga wants to know if you’ve seen any beasts lurkin’ in the woods. Damn insatiable predator, he is.” She said, nudging him playfully with her boot. At Javal’s greeting, the orc leaned over to get a better look at his dirt drawing.
“Well, damn!” She whistled. “Those are some pretty deadly looking swords. Pretty cool.”
It didn’t surprise her Javal forgot his supplies. He didn’t usually travel without his retainers. Still, watching him fumble around looking for his things was pretty damn funny. She laughed and shook her head.
“Look, ain’t a big deal. The good thing about camping is that everything we could possibly need is around us here.” She gestured towards the trees. “And if we need food, we can always just hunt. That’s the great part about roughin’ it. This,” She patted her bag, “Is just extra shit in case we don’t wanna forage. But we’ll be fine.”
She slapped him on the shoulder before taking off for the thick copse of trees ahead of them.
“Come on, man. Let’s find a good campsite.”

Javal smiled as he saw Ak’ka’s serpentine companion excited to see him although not understanding a word he spoke only hearing faint hisses and rattles.
His smile quickly turned into a grin as he heard his friend translate that for him, “Oh let me think”, he said scratching his chin deep in thought, “Uhhh..I saw a raccoon and a deer earlier that was all, to be honest. Although I am sure we’re gonna see some incredible and ferocious beasts on our trip”.
The young fellblood smiles at his drawings not exactly confident in his artistic ability but appreciating his friend’s words, “Why thank you friend Ak’ka it’s nothing just dirt doodles I’m no artist or anything”.
“You are exactly right”, he exclaims pumped up and excited once more, “The forest is our adventure and this is simply the universe testing our mettle. And if it seeks to do so then we must meet its gaze roaring out with conviction”.
“WE WILL HAVE THE FUNNEST CAMPING TRIP EVER”, he yells as he feels Ak’ka slap his shoulder jogging to catch up to her.
“So what have you been up to friend Ak’ka? What should we do first? Have you been camping before? How strong are you now?”, he says excitement tinged in his voice as he spit his usual barrage of eager curiosity.

“Damn.”
Small game was Keiga’s usual pray, ‘xept for the times they managed to get hold of bigger monsters. Ak’ka looked disappointed too, but from what she’d heard of King’s Valley the Kingswood was full of nasty shit lurkin’ in the dark most folks didn’t wanna deal with. Hell, only a month ago she’d gotten into a scrap with a couple Wyldmare with that guy, Arashi. Buggers had been quick, but not as much of a challenge as she thought. Hopefully the forest had stronger shit.
Ak’ka leaned down and lowered her arm so Keiga could slither up her side and rest on her shoulders. She nodded while Javal spoke.
“HELL YEAH WE WILL!” She agreed, pumping her fist in the air as they descended further into the woods.
Ak’ka grunted while she thought of the answer to that question.
“Been up to about the same as always. Just finished up fighting off some raiders up in Dragon’s Cradle. You?” She grinned. “I mean, depends on what you consider camping. I spend most of my time traveling and roughin’ it in the woods with not much. But for fun, it’s a bit different.” She used to go on trips through the mountain with her old man, before he died in a raid. They would make snow-warriors and have snowball fights - which usually got pretty deadly when they started adding rocks into the snowballs.
“Shouldn’t be too different from the norm, though. Ain’t like it’s too big a challenge. The real difficulty is when you trek the mountains.” She laughed. “Food’s scarce up there and your tent can collapse any second. This is easy mode compared to that.” Hell, the weather was downright pleasant compared to that.
As they walked, trees swayed in the wind around them. Shadows danced nearby, some resemblin’ monsters. The shade of a murkwood spawn drew closer, as if tryin’ to spook the two. Peals of laughter bounced across the clearing. Ak’ka and Javal had no way of knowin’ that the forest they’d entered was overrun by the fae… but the fae also had no clue that they’d run across two of the hardest people to spook on this side of Charon.
The night was bound to be interesting.

“THAT’S EXACTLY WHAT I’M TALKING ABOUT AK’KA IF THE UNIVERSE HAS CHALLENGED US TO SURVIVE THEN I SAY WE YELL IN ITS FACE AND CHALLENGE IT BACK”, the eager fellblood would exclaim.
“I see so kicking some evildoer behind and showing your might?”, Javal would question jokingly before continuing, “Oh really? Where? I too recently held off an invasion of Raiders in Hearthside a few weeks back. I tell you those fellows were downright villainous in their attitude trying to crush a community before it even fully started. Thankfully my good friend Leandros and I managed to defeat them and justice prevailed. I agree with you that there’s something different than just hanging out in the wilds, oftentimes sensei would send me on nature trips to get stronger. But camping on purpose is different, I’ve heard from folks that it’s pretty fun. When I was younger my father told me he would take me sometime …”, he’d pause before continuing, “However he couldn't have any more certain things happened but hey still my first camping experience with my best bud Ak’ka should be epic”.
“Trekking mountains in Dragon’s Cradle is pretty fun especially when you’re carrying a backpack filled with rocks like my sensei made me do. This’ll still be equally as fun in the great outdoors, nothing is certain and it’s up to us to survive and do camping-like things. Like uh GOING CAMPING!”, he would exclaim not exactly knowing what camping activities would entail but still certainly excited.
