AK’KA THE BONEGRINDER
-Art by the lovely June <3-
Gender: Female
Age: 37
Race: Half-Orc
Nationality: Frostgale
Appearance: Standing tall at around 10’0”, Ak’ka’s build could only be described as pure, coiled muscle. Her skin is a greenish-gray hue that might have once been a vibrant green, but has since faded over time. Her torso is covered in tribal tattoos that mark her as a warrior of her clan. Her long, dark hair is done up in braids, and her face is covered in piercings. Nearly every visible inch of her body bears scars, the marks of her victories, and she wears them with pride.
Personality: Not even death could stop Ak’ka from blazing a trail through Charon- and it didn’t. Ak’ka may come from the coldest realm in Charon, but her personality is the complete opposite. She is pure force, all action and little thought, but in her opinion, thinking is for the weak. Ak’ka throws herself into anything she does, whether it’s sharing a hearty laugh with companions or smashing a cultist’s face into a nearby wall. It does not take much to get on Ak’ka’s good side, and even less to get on her bad. She believes that it is the job of the strong to protect the weak, and she lives by that creed.
History: Ak’ka was once the chieftain’s daughter, the jewel of the Mortak clan up in the harsh mountains of Frostgale. It is either a testament to her strength or her father’s weakness that in her twelfth winter of life, an enemy raid saw Chief Shur’ma Mortak slain right in front of her eyes. The leader slain, the enemy tribe turned on Ak’ka next, intent on sending her to the afterlife right after her father.
But Ak’ka would not go so easily.
She rallied the surviving members of her tribe with a far greater ferocity than Shur’ma ever had during his brief reign. It was clear that, even at a young age, she had the spirit of a leader. So Clan Mortak took the only natural course of action- they named Ak’ka chief, breaking a long, patriarchal tradition. Her father’s memory was quickly forgotten, by all but Ak’ka, who secretly mourned his loss. He may have been, by orc standards, a pacifist, but he was all she had, and the fact that she was unable to protect him was a heavy burden on her shoulders. As she was crowned leader, she made a vow to look over those who could not defend themselves, in honor of the one man she could not save.
As Ak’ka grew, so did her clan’s strength. She pushed them, and pushed herself to constantly expand their territory. As peace was rarely a solution in the harsh territories of the north, Ak’ka often led raids of her own, and defended her own borders. Enemy tribes learned to tremble at the sound of her name, looking over her shoulders as if expecting to find her there, and that was where everything began to unravel.
A tribe close to the borders of Clan Mortak grew weary of waiting for Ak’ka to attack, and hired a powerful mage to help defend his borders. He provoked Ak’ka, forcing her to retaliate- and retaliate she did, blissfully unaware of the trap she was falling into. As she approached the village, warriors behind her in support, the mage triggered a powerful avalanche. While Ak’ka’s clan escaped, Ak’ka herself did not. She was buried in the snow, left to suffer an embarrassing death for a warrior.
… Time passed.
And Ak’ka pulled herself out of the snow, skin cold to the touch. She soon learned that, no matter what she attempted, she would never be warm again. Confused, she made her way back to Clan Mortak, but found that it had been razed in her absence. The remains looked… aged, as if it had been a long time since she passed, though to Ak’ka, it had only felt like minutes.
With no tribe left to lead, and more questions than answers, Ak’ka set out from the mountains, searching for the one person that could explain what had happened to her- the mage that had buried her in the first place. And once she had her answers, she was going to show him exactly how she earned the moniker Bonegrinder.
