Rena hums softly to herself, slowly going through the motions of her katas as her husband and children copy her. It’s…a strange sight, four crows of various sizes and states of living going through slow, smooth, almost dancelike motions in a clearing in the middle of a forest on the crescent coast. Rena’s motions are smooth and fluid with the familiarity of long years of practice, akin to a hunter weaving silently through a dense forest at a dead sprint, her silver eyes closed as she hums softly.
Tolling Bell floats a few centimeters off the grass, smoke wafting from his feathers as the embers scattered amongst them burn with a dull amber light under the morning sun. his movements are firm and decisive, akin to a smith pounding away at a chunk of white-hot metal or a warrior methodically cutting at his enemy, his own burning amber orbs closed, little wisps of amber flame flickering from under his eyelids.
Distant Whistle’s movements are those of a novice; shaky, unsure, and unpracticed, but improving with every repetition as she keeps her scarlet eyes fixed on her parents, methodically copying their movements. A thrust here, a slow slash there, sweep the leg, impale the throat…
Buzzing Locusts…would rather be reading. Of course, that’s pretty typical; he’d almost always prefer to be snuggled up with his mom or one of his sisters, a book in hand as the hearth crackles with flame…still, he focuses on learning the movements, the repetitions serving as a distraction from his usual anxiety, calming his shivering bones and allowing him to focus on other things…like the sound of footsteps approaching from the woods surrounding the clearing.
One sharp whistle from the skeletal chick, and the family takes defensive positions, black ice crackling over the pair of bayonets in each of Rena’s hands as an aura of thin smoke erupts from Bell’s form, his shape turning wispy and translucent. Little Whistle steps behind and to the side of her mother, a slender bayonet sliding from each sleeve to settle in the younger crow’s hands even as her little brother positions himself between his family and the sound of approaching footsteps. The logic here is simple; Loci quite literally cannot die without his mother dismissing his bones, and as such he’s the best suited to soaking up hits and distracting any potential foes, despite his inability to actually hurt anyone without going berserk.

The approaching footsteps turned out to be from a familiar draconynh, as he made his way towards the practicing family. He had gone out on a couple of misadventures of his own during this time, though nothing that was really that exciting. He had finally met Sylvari Dawnsage, for one. It was certainly an enlightening experience, especially for clarifying what his current goals should be while exploring the world. Additionally, she had promised him that she'd at least try to help in his endeavor on his home island.
And then there was that entity Lucian met in the woods. That... wasn't the most pleasant experience. Especially when the thing could change their appearance to look like other people, including himself.
As for his own advancement in skills... There weren't all that many. It was primarily his latent draconynh features manifesting. Horns and claws becoming sharper, his gills finally opening after being closed for so long, better swimming abilities, and, of course, unlocking his draconic breath weapon. It seemed like Rena's training with him had helped his body become strong enough to actually support these parts of himself.
When he approached, though, he couldn't help but blink in surprise. Huh. Looks like Rena had managed to resurrect her family, and her chicks had hatched. Well, one of them hatched, the other appeared resurrected, at least based on the skeletal form of the chick.
Unsure of what to say, he began to awkwardly speak. "Uh, hello, Rena. I see you've gotten your husband back and now have a happy family?" He said, his voice unsteady with confusion and surprise. "Congratulations?"

That’s about as far as Lucian gets before Rena’s slid her bayonets back up her sleeves so she can safely tackle the larger man with an excited chirp, “Lucian! We weren’t expecting you today! I heard you met with Sylvari!” her wings flutter a little, the massive appendages kicking up a good bit of wind as she trills.
The others relax at this, the phantasmal crow retracting the aura of smoke back into himself and turning somewhat solid once more as he steps forward, burning amber eyes appraising the newcomer as he trills, “...well now, I remember you…you look a bit different, but you’re that draconynh ka’to’bi put up a few weeks before I manifested, aren’t you…didnae ‘ave the best view from those blades, but I rather think I got a pretty good look…”
Distant Whistle tilts her head, shining ruby eyes soft and curious as she sheathes her own bayonets before cautiously approaching the stranger, “...Lucian? That…sounds familiar…” she hasn’t quite developed the whip sharp memory of her parents, or else she’d recall that her mother had told them about the peculiar draconynh her mother had met in the forest a couple of months before she and her brother had hatched…
…Loci, on the other hand, knows exactly who this is, his emerald eyelights alight with recognition as he trills curiously, “‘c-course i-it do-does, m-mom to-told us ab-about ‘im…wa-wasnae ex-expecting ‘im t-to ac-actually sh-show up, the-though…” the little skelechick’s bones rattle nervously, as they tend to do around strangers. He’d…still prefer to be inside, curled up by the warmth of the hearth with a book, but…this is acceptable, he supposes.

The draconynh was tackled easily by the smaller aviankin, though thankfully his newfound strength and endurance prevented him from toppling over like a house of cards upon impact. He laughed a little, a big toothy grin crossing his expression.
"I did meet with her!" Lucian explained. "I ended up staying the night too, a nasty storm managed to cross its way over during my visit. I had a wonderful time. But, of course, I wanted to return here to visit you. It's been a while, after all!"
He looked towards the other aviankin with Rena. Clearly she'd been busy, if she'd managed to manifest her husband and hatch, and even apparently bring back, some of her chicks while he was gone.
"Tolling Bell, I assume?" He spoke as he looked towards Rena's spirit husband. "Welcome back to the physical world." He then turned towards the chicks. "And I believe I have yet to meet you all yet, little ones. As you've clearly heard, I'm Lucian. I'm a friend of your mother's. She helped me find my footing when I arrived on the isle, and taught me for a brief while."
Though at the comment of him looking different, he hummed a little in thought. "I do suppose I may look a little different. My continued training has helped awaken a lot of my draconic traits, now that my body can physically handle them. I can even do this now."
The draconynh quickly fired up his drake gland, letting water flow through it. Suddenly, from his mouth, he shot several bubbles, which floated quietly into the air.
"I can do more than that, of course," he spoke. "But I figured that the bubbles might be the most entertaining way to demonstrate my new abilities."

Rena trills happily, the feathers around her beak ruffling in a manner akin to an avian smile as she pulls away, those silver eyes of hers watching as her friend turns first toward her husband, and then toward her chicks, a subtle tension hidden under her feathers as she watches intently. This is it. This is the moment when her friend cements himself on one side of the line...or the other. She's got high hopes for him, but she's been disappointed before...
Bell chuckles softly, one feathered eyebrow quirked as he looks up at the draconynh, amber eyes shining with gentle amusement as he watches Lucian turn to interact with the twins. There’s a tension in him, subtle and carefully tucked away where none save his wife know to look. He's seen only fleeting glimpses of the other man, only had sparse fragments to build an impression off of...and what he's seeing now, well, he's rather impressed overall.
Distant Whistle trills curiously, her feathers ruffling in excitement as she recalls the stories her mother had told her…stories of a sapphire draconynh from across the sea, stories of a student, one whom her mother considers to be a potential fledgling of the family…yes, she's excited, practically bouncing on her scaled, avian toes as she watches the draconynh.
Buzzing Locusts lets out a soft chirp, listening curiously as Lucian speaks before asking in his resonant, slightly rasping, sepulchral voice, “...what sort of training? I know mom had you practicing your aim and throwing, as well as how quickly and easily you could use that summoning spell…”

At the mention of training, Lucian hummed in thought as he thought of how to best explain this. “Well, I’ve been continuing to do that, at the very least. I’ve been practicing my magic as well, though… I have yet to make much progress outside of my current spell set…” He spoke, almost a little disappointed.
He had yet to make much progress in the magic department, though at least he had been mastering the spells he did have. The summoning spell had become a breeze to him, his affinity for light proving useful in distorting space quickly enough to summon whatever he needed from wherever he needed. Additionally, he could cast light rather easily, and the power behind his weaponized light had grown. But, as someone who was primarily self-taught, he had yet to progress towards learning anything new.
“The physical training has helped greatly, however.” The azure draconynh added, his golden eyes focusing once more on the chicks. “Your mother made me realize that I neglected much of my physical strength up until now, so I’ve been training my body. And, as a result, it seems that I’ve unlocked capabilities I never knew I had.”
He flexed his sharp claws and flashed his sharp teeth, not as a threatening display, but to show the progress he had made. It seemed he had progressed quite a bit physically now. Though it also appeared that webbing had formed between his claws, a light blue membrane that could advance his ability to swim in water
“Oh, and it appears that I can breathe underwater now!” He spoke excitedly, his gills expanding and shrinking in response to the statement.
He then focused his attention towards the chicks. “I assume that your mother has been teaching you as well? She’s a talented teacher, and you’re her progeny, so I assume you’ve both been progressing very quickly in your studies.”

Whistle trills softly, the feathers around her beak ruffling in an avian smirk as she does…something with one of her hands, a long, slender bayonet simply appearing somewhere in the middle of the motion, the blade already dancing and twirling between her fingers for a few long moments before a subtle change to the movement of her fingers has the hilt settling in her palm, ”...ye could say that. Some days it feels like it’s been mere months since me brother and I ‘atched”
Loci snorts, emerald eye lights dancing with amusement as he glances at his sister, ”...ye m-mean si-since you ‘atched. I-I dis-distinctly re-recall m-mom coaxing m-my awareness f-from tha-that frozen pr-prison s-so I-I co-could pu-puppet the-these bones…”
Bell tilts his head, the feathers around his ghostly beak ruffling in a smile as he watches the fledgling interact with the hatchlings, his burning, amber eyes full of joy as he simply enjoys the fact that his family is that much closer to being whole. There’s still the matter of the other eggs, but…at this point that’s more a concern of when, as opposed to how. Though…he shivers a little, feathers ruffling as he considers what his wife will need to do to herself to make their family truly whole, and not for the first time, he wonders how their eldest daughter will react to her mother in all but blood becoming the very thing that brought her such pain…
Rena trills softly, interrupting the dark turn of his thoughts by pulling him into a gentle hug and nuzzling into his ghostly, ember flecked feathers as she lets out a contented trill. To say she doesn't share her husband's worries would be a blatant lie, but...she's learned the hard way that worrying only has a point if you can do about your concerns...in the meantime, she's happy to enjoy the little moments while they last.
