Word had spread all across Charon about the strange rings of flowers, unknown to botanists and experts and scholars alike. The call had been put out for anyone willing to take on the task of seeking out these odd plants and bringing back as much information as possible. The whispers amongst traders and commonfolk spoke of odd happenings, people telling tales that sounded like a party went a little too deep into the storehouse.
The next morning, they took some time off from their usual affairs. Vinny seemed happy about the request, even sending the mage off with provisions. Outside the door, Phanuel lay at the foot of the stairs as if the big feline too had known what they would do. They just stared for a moment, sighing softly as they descended.
"Already ahead of me are you?" The mage asked, having no clue if their words would matter at all. The feline nudged against them as if to hurry things along, so Lo climbed on and the pair set off. Having no idea what they might encounter, the mage decided to leave their lighter staff at home in favor of the much more versatile spear they'd found alongside their companion. While they had only practiced with it a handful of times, that was in part due to not having a safe space very often to make use of it's particularly... unique feature. If they encountered something less than pleasant, this was their best chance for getting out safely.
There was something peculiar about this cat, their intuition and understanding perplexing. The journey from Lo's part of the Cradle to the Drakolt Crater by the main roads would take between a week and two weeks, depending on your pace. Phanuel, familiar with game trails, could cut that time down to to just about three days and nights. Winding through features in the landscape most people would think were not of this world, the mage enjoyed the fascinating scenery while scouting their surroundings. At night, they lay under the stars munching on the wonderful meals before drifting off. If this were all there was to adventuring life, Lo could be happy.
The second day flew by even faster than the first, and by sunset of the third day scars from the mountain already made the terrain difficult and dangerous. Noxious fumes could burst forth from vents below, the heat alone could strain most creatures to exhaustion in minutes. Instead of heading straight for the center of the crater, they picked their way around the lower rim. While it took the better part of the morning, spotting a wild batch of flowers swaying in the wind atop a volcanic landscape seemed like a fever dream. Lo pulled out the notebooks they'd been given, keeping one out and pulling a small sheet from another before returning it. They copied details, using the methods described on the card. Their scaled hands didn't have the finesse for drawing very well, but they tried anyway.
The pair approached cautiously, to a point. Phanuel stopped some yards away and watched the edge of the flowers as if they were hunting. Lo had been furiously trying to finish their notes and barely noticed as the obsidian skinned cat moved closer to the ring. A petal from one of the flowers brushed against the mage's arm, and a look of terror passed over their face....
Quest Name: Ring of Flowers
Participants: Exactly Two
Location: One of the listed locations below
Post Requirements: 6 posts per person, 200 words per post
Reward: +2 Renown, 1 Mystical Archive Ticket
Description: Strange things are occurring around these newly formed flower circles and help is needed in understanding why. Unfortunately, as one of the first groups of people to explore these phenomena, we are unaware of any specific strange or weird side effects interacting with these rings may bring, so be careful. Study the flowers, record what you see, hear, or even feel.
Special Requirements:
Your investigations will reveal that these circles are not native to Charon and are coming from some other realm. They are Fae in nature and give off similar magical traces as the Fae creatures that currently live on Charon, although much stronger and more potent.
Upon arriving at the location, you will find that strange things have begun to happen, not only to the environment but to you as well, with prolonged exposure to the circle increasing the effects. Before you begin the quest, you must choose one of the locations listed below to explore, with a specific obstacle attached based on the region. These added effects cannot be ignored and must be applied to your characters during the quest.
Ash Lands>Drakolt Crater:
Red, yellow and orange flowers have grown around the rim of Drakolt Crater, remnants left over from Vulcadreaus. The smell of burnt flesh sits on the air while water is scalding to the touch.
While investigating the flowers, both members find that they have swapped bodies. Your mind is still intact, but you are now in the other person's body, gaining access to everything on their character sheet but losing everything on yours. Lasts the entire topic.
