Sylvari smirked widely at Rena's words, merriment evident in her visage even despite her concealed eyes. "Well, as a proponent of personal defense, far be it from me to ever dissuade someone from taking up training with armor, but I daresay, for this fight, at least, I was armored enough for all of us. Besides, the strength training needed to move properly in armor..." Sylvari shivered at the memory of the long days and nights of grueling training her father instructed her in to be able to move as quickly as a grass serpent while reaping the benefits of defense that plate provided.
As the little group moved into the inn, it was clear to see that the chicks were bursting with excitement at the action that just unfolded before their eyes. The vampiress smiled fondly at the little ones, Whistle and Locust each showing their brimming eagerness in their own ways. Sylvari smirked at Rena and Bell's conversation. She leaned down conspiratorially to the children and spoke in whispered tones.
"Your mother is a wonderful fighter, and you would be served well to learn from her, but if either of you want to be a knight like me, just call on Auntie. With your parent's permission of course." Sylvari's ensuing smile could melt even the hardest heart.

The chicks chirp happily, nestling into their mother’s arms. Loci’s bones rattle from the excitement as Whistle nods with a flurry of chirps and trills. Rena chuckles softly, cooing and nuzzling her chicks as she holds them close, her silver eyes shining with delight and amusement as she smiles, “...we’ll see what ye lor’tryrlr’s’no want t’learn when we get home, ey?”
Bell smiles softly, joy in his burning amber eyes as he watches his wife hold their children, “mmm…might want to teach at least one of them how to handle themselves around a forge…’s hard work, but more’n worth it…” Loci perks up a little at the prospect of learning something from his ghostly father.
Whistle trills softly, settling into her mother’s arms and taking out the quartz whetstone that The Other Crow gave to her so many weeks ago to begin sharpening her beak on it. It really was lovely of The Other Crow to gift her one of their Shinies. She’ll have to track them down and repay them somehow…perhaps once she and Loci have learned some from Mom so they can help defend themselves…that’d be nice…
Buzzing Locusts’ mind is awhirl with thoughts and possibilities, excited chirps and trills escaping his beak as he clings to his mother’s warmth. He wants to learn to fight, but that forge thing - whatever that is - his dad mentioned also sounds like a lot of fun…

Sylvari's happy reply to the tender scene was stopped before it could truly begin as a steady of trickle of water from the rainfall outside poured directly onto her head. The vampiress wanted to curse for yet more circumstances ruining her otherwise well maintained hair, but she was keenly aware of the children, so she merely sighed, deeply and heavily, allowing the water to continue to fall upon her, much to the chicks' amusement.
"It seems the elemental created yet more work for us. Rena, if you'd be a dear and fly up to hold this leak closed while I find a ladder and some pitch..."
With the plan established, Sylvari handed Rena a nearby bucket to collect the water and moved quickly to locate the required items. The ladder was leaning against the shed, just beside the building, but they had used the last of the readily available pitch, necessitating a long, soggy walk to the storehouse across town. Without complaint, the justiciar quickly hurried to retrieve the material, glad for Magran's fine craftsmanship of her armor keeping the bulk of the rainwater away from her core.
Once she had the necessary items, she returned to the tavern, looking very much like a drenched dog as she wearily set the ladder and began climbing up to assist her sister in patching the troublesome hole.

Rena smiles softly, gently setting her children down and stretching her wings for a moment before bringing them down to send herself soaring up to the hole in the roof. Her wings beat slowly to keep her aloft as she holds hole shut for her sister, rainwater trickling down her arms and soaking her dress and coat further, though she doesn’t particularly seem to mind. Even as she works, the gears in her head are cranking through the various training regimes that she went through to get where she is now. Most are…far harsher than she’s willing to put her children through, at least as they are now. For now…she’ll carve a pair of wooden bayonets for each of them and see how they fare with the basic stuff. With that decided, Rena shakes her head to refocus on the task at hand just in time for her to readjust midair to keep from whacking her sister with one of her frankly massive wings.
Below, Tolling Bell is keeping the chicks occupied, telling them stories from his and Rena’s time in The Valley of Crows back before the hag had come along to ruin everything…

Working together expertly, Sylvari and Rena had the leak patched in no time. Luckily, Sylvari had grown quite adept at estimating required material for construction and maintenance projects from her long years of service helping with rebuilding in various areas around Charon, and the pitch she brought was just enough without needing to cart back the excess. The justiciar simply descended the small ladder and placed it back where she had found it.
Heading back inside, the little group moved closer to the hearth, Rena and Sylvari seeking to be rid of their soaked clothing from the pressing rain and recent leak. The vampiress hummed in contentment, having so many of her loved ones close, basking in the gentle afterglow of helping a little town repair and safeguard their homes. It was the closest she had felt to the old days of helping her family in the Crescent Isles since her exile. Since there was little hope of reconciliation there, Sylvari resigned herself to finding new family: dear loved ones like the ones gathered here. With feather and fist, they helped to regather the scattered pieces of Sylvari's shattered heart, allowing her to feel hope for the future once more.
