Lucian smiled a little bit at the joke, his scaled lips curling upwards. Being further away from the fallen wolf along with the lighter tone helped him feel a bit better about all of this.
“Yes, I suppose it will likely take some time,” He spoke. “Nothing unexpected, however, I’m sure that most civilization is a ways away from here.”
At the mention of the spell, however, Lucian’s thoughts turn towards it. “Ah, yes, the spell… I don’t quite know spell names, as there weren’t many mages on the island, but it’s a modified light spell. I figured out how to alter it so that it can do damage. It’s not exactly the best approach in the world, but it works well in a pinch.”
He thought about his time learning magic back home. Despite his affinity for it, there weren’t many people who could actually teach him how to perform magic. As a result, he only knew a few spells and, even then, one was simply a modified version of the other. A sort of upgrade, if you will.
“I’m not all that good at combat, though, so I can really only do that,” Lucian elaborated. “I only know a couple of utility spells. They’re helpful in most situations, but combat? Not really.”

she tilts her head, trilling softly as she gently leads him away, nodding a little and humming a gentle, lilting tune, "...modified light spell? sounds like you've got some talent for the stuff..."
the crow chirps softly, smiling brightly as she walks ahead of Lucian, her feet leaving little crowsfoot tracks behind her with each step.
okay...this isn't going too terribly...he doesn't seem to be afraid of her. shouldn't be more'n a day or two from her sister's landlord's home by foot...
she smiles a little wider, trilling curiously as a thought occurs to her, "...so...you've got Light and that modified replica of Purity Bolt...what other spells do you have?" there's one particular spell she's read about that could make her own favored weapons work very well for him, regardless of his skill with thrown blades.
she hums happily, three eggs in a satchel hanging off her shoulder, one new hatchling by her side - no, no, calm down, you can't be sure he wants that yet...besides, the fledgling is enough for now. Let the hatchling decide if he wants to be one of hers, and provide as much guidance and training as he'll let her in the meantime...

Lucian followed behind her, leaving his own clawed tracks and a line of disturbed dirt from where his tail dragged across the ground behind him. It created an interesting set of tracks, ones that could only feasibly made by a draconynh or a lizard folk.
“Yes, I discovered I have a bit of an affinity for light magic.” Lucian replied, humming to himself as he thought about it. “It comes rather natural to me.”
He summoned a ball of light to his claws once more, raising a hand. Unlike the light he had attempted to use against the wolf, however, it seemed almost… softer. A gentle glow versus the bright, shining light. The difference between the two spells was rather clear.
At the mention of other spells, he dismissed the light, returning it to nothingness. “Well, I do have one other spell that comes in handy.”
Lucian grabbed his satchel from his side, containing his clothes and whatever else he had brought with him. He proceeded to throw the bag far away from him, practically yeeting it several yard away from him.
Light danced around his claws again, though it was different from the other spells. Instead, it almost seemed like it was calling, summoning. The light coalesced and suddenly his satchel was in his hand again, and no longer on the ground.
“Tadah! I’m not sure what this spell is called, but it’s handy if I lose something.” Lucian spoke, with a proud smile on his face.

Rena smiles at the display of light, trilling appreciatively as she hums, head tilting to one side as she watches, "...'s always good to have talents...as for myself, my condition provides some measure of ice magic, and I've always been rather talented with these-" she raises her hand, already spinning one of her bayonets between her fingers to demonstrate...
...then he tosses his bag away, and Rena blinks, tilting her head as she she watches the lights in his hand...aaaaand then she drops her bayonet, eyes widening when the bag reappears in his hands.
ta'f. he's got space magic. he's got summon possession. she's going to teach this hatchling how to throw a knife if she has to hold him down and force the knowledge into his brain. and then she's going to get him a set of throwing blades for his own. It'll be glorious. he'll have infinite knives, something she's dreamed of since before Fimbulwinter.
...she needs to save up some solars for that, first. stars, she needs to save up some money to get herself the training in spacial magic so she can learn the darn spell.
she grins wide, "...well, alrighty then. how easy is it for you to cast that spell as opposed to the light-spear?"

Lucian moved his satchel back into its normal place, wrapping the strap around his shoulder and letting it settle by his side. He couldn’t help but be mildly amused by her reaction to his ability to summon the satchel back to his claws. It was clear to him that the gears were turning in her head at seeing such an ability.
Perhaps he really did have some impressive magic after all.
“It’s a bit trickier than the light spells I can do.” Lucian admitted. “Light comes easy to me, but manipulating something to summon back into my hands… Well, it’s just a bit more effort. I managed to figure out how to use my light to essentially like…”
He paused, thinking of the words.
“I’m manipulating the light around my hands to mess with space, I think?” He added. “The light ripples the space around it and draws items back to me.”
However, his interest was peaked at Rena bringing up that she could use ice magic.
“Oh, sorry for interrupting with that spell of mine. What kind of ice magic are you able to use?” He asked. “I never got to see much of it, since it usually got too hot on the island to even attempt such spells.”

She slowly nods, not quite hearing what he's saying, already planning out a training regime to teach her hatchling how to handle thrown weapons.
She shakes her head to free herself of her thoughts, softly trilling as she considers for a moment, "...that makes sense...if light's your specialty, altering it to mess with space would be...difficult..."
she trills again, softly humming, then grins, "...you want to get more practice with that possession summon while getting another skill for you to defend yourself with?"
this. this is it. not the moment he decides to be one of hers or not, no...no, that comes later, now is the moment when he decides to be her student or not. as much as she wants another hatchling to take care of, it's both his choice and far too early...
she shakes her head again, "...sorry. get lost in my thoughts sometimes. anyhoo, I was thinking we could start you off with some flavor of throwing knife? my personal favorite-" she picks up the dropped bayonet, twirling the slender blade in her fingers once more, "-is these bayonets of mine, but I rather think they're a bit too advanced for you...and these are special, anyway...no, we'll get you some practice blades to work with, I think..."

Lucian thought for a moment about Rena’s proposition, letting out a quiet hum. He honestly never thought about using throwing knives before. Such things were never needed on the island, as spears were enough for fishing and regular knives were for gutting the fish. He also didn’t have much experience with weapons at all. Who needed weapons when you were a noble on a small island and there were no battles? Some may duel for honor, but there was no point in learning weaponry until now.
“Well, I’ve never learned how to wield anything, and I can’t guarantee I’d be any good at throwing.” Lucian spoke, clearly contemplative.
Seeing the bayonets was also intimidating, or well they’d be too intimidating to use. Despite his larger stature, they certainly would be too unwieldy considering his lack of experience. Rena was right in that regard, at least. He’d need to find throwing knives that would be easier for mages like himself.
“I can at least give it a try.” Lucian eventually agreed.
This may or may not go well for him.

Rena grins, trilling softly as she hums, "...well, maybe we'll see if you can't teach me some o' whatever theory you've worked out 'bout that summon trick o' yours...if nothin' else, knowin' what the right feelin' is could be helpful once I've got a book on the stuff"
She tilts her head slightly, chirping in thought as she considers her options, "...hm...we may need to break for camp tonight..." and glances up at the sky, not liking what she's seeing, "...definitely underestimated how long it'd take to walk...been flying as much as I could get away with ever since my wings got fixed..."
she shakes her head, glancing around with shining silver eyes before beginning to pace around the edge of the clearing they've found themselves in, leaving little crowsfoot tracks behind her as she hums, "...I'll forage for the grasses and branches we'll need for proper nests for the night...not the worst depending on your area, but definitely not silken sheet quality...not with the stuff we've got here, at least..."
she nods, glancing over to Lucian, "...I'll see about carving you a brace of wooden practice knives, too. shouldn't be too hard, even if I might be a bit rusty...practiced for a while when the clan healer said I was expecting..."

Lucian nodded a little in agreement, letting out a quiet hum. “I’ll try my best to explain it sometime, and practice knives sound like a good idea.”
He sat down in the clearing, careful to sit specifically where there was grass rather than where there was soil. He’d rather not get his clothes too dirty, as he didn’t want to have to wash them just yet. After all, they’d likely need to find a river or some other source of water to wash them. At the very least his clothes shouldn’t be washed on the ocean. The salt water wouldn’t be good for the fabric.
The approaching cool night air settled on his scales, and he could feel his internal temperature beginning to drop a little. He ran rather cold compared to most other people, but that was likely due to the ectothermic qualities of his race and adaptations. It made him a little sleepy, however, as his eyes were threatening to flutter shut on him.
“Let me know if you need any assistance foraging,” he offered. Foraging might help keep him awake long enough to not just fall asleep then and there.

The crow nods slowly, humming softly as she trills, "...yeah, that's probably a good idea...draconynh are exothermal, right? c'mon, let's maintain that body heat-" Rena freezes, flushing a little beneath her feathers for a moment before she shakes her head, "-ah, let's try an' keep you awake, rather"
she sighs, taking out a bayonet and beginning to cut the long grass, humming softly to herself as she idly flicks a bayonet at a point a few feet in front of Lucian, "that'll help you cut the grass"
The crow smiles, quickly coating her blade with sharpened, crackling ice before slicing off a thick branch to begin whittling down into a brace of practice throwing knives for her new student.
"...alright, time to see how rusty I am..." she hums softly to herself, taking her bayonet and beginning to whittle the branch down, slivers of wood fluttering to the ground as she works, softly chirping and trilling.
It takes a while, and it's late at night by the time she's finished, but by the end of it she's got five relatively well-balanced wooden knives for Lucian to practice with.
Rena glances up, smiling brightly at the draconynh...and he's alseep. right. it's the middle of the night now. that's fun.

It was true, Lucian had managed to fall asleep. The cool air had lulled him to sleep. Fortunately, before having fallen asleep, he had managed to cut enough grass before to make a bed of grass big enough for his taller frame. His body was curled up in a way where his tail touched the tip of his snout. The fin-like structures on his body shifted a little in the wind. His claws dug into the grass, grasping it lightly as though grabbing onto a pillow.
The bayonet he borrowed from Rena to cut grass lay nearby, as to not cut him in his sleep. Such a blade would likely easily dig past his more fragile scales, after all. They were closer to fish scales with softer, amphibian-like skin underneath, rather than the harder scales and skin other draconynh had.
His dreams were rather pleasant, thankfully. He dreamed of the shores of his home island. Waves crashed along the beach, spraying sea salt onto the shore. He dreamt of the sound of the ocean, and the smell of the sea. The crashing white noise. The scent of salt and brine and seaweed.
He seemed to be sleeping well, a small smile on his face as he slept. Hopefully by morning, he’d be awake and ready to possibly learn from Rena. Though it would likely be best that Rena went to sleep soon as well, if only to get enough rest to properly teach the draconynh her skills.

Rena smiles softly, moving to retrieve her bayonet and sliding it up her sleeve with the others before moving to arrange her own bedding, softly humming to herself as she works. She sighs, gently taking out her eggs and curling around them as she settles in to sleep.
she sleeps there, curled around her offspring and dreaming of better times yet...times yet to come, when she's already learned the spells she's after, when her husband's bayonets crackle with ice and shine with burning light as she hurls them without end at any who would threaten her family...
...when the dawn comes, Lucian finds the crow curled around her clutch, softly snoozing with five wooden, roughly star-shaped throwing knives lying a few feet from the nest she'd woven.
She sleeps there, relaxed and unaware of the draconynh's own waking...and as he watches, something squirms under her feathers, and he gets the sudden premonition that this little crow's situation is far more complex than he'd realized...
Rena's dreams twist subtly as the Beast stirs, changing to...include the hungering thing. cold nights in a warm den by a crackling fire, the massive, lanky form of the Beast curled loosely around Rena and Bell and six little hatchlings...

Lucian had awoken well-rested, thankfully. His dreams were good, and his sleep was plenty. He watched Rena briefly with his golden eyes, a small smile on his face. He was glad the aviankin was able to get some rest.
The squirming made him a little wary, however. That… likely wasn’t a good sign. But it would be better to ask Rena about it when she wakes up.
Instead, he began to undo his nest, taking apart the grass so that it could be used as fertilizer for the clearing. No point in wasting resources, right? He easily shredded it into pieces easy enough for the detritivores to consume and break down.
While he waited for Rena to wake up, he figured he could practice some of his spells. She suggested he practice his summon: possession spell, right? Or at least that’s what she called it. He took out a small trinket from his backpack and began to practice, throwing it far away from him and summoning it back to his claws.

It goes pretty well; he can feel the strain of the summoning lessen a little each time he does it, each casting taking a little less time.
Rena slowly stirs as he practices, yawning and stretching and slowly pushing into a seated position, blinking the sleep away from her eyes even as she glances around, flecks of bone white in her silver eyes slowly fading.
she sighs, relaxing a little as she stands and spares a moment to check her sleeves...yep, Bell's all there, though he's been feeling a little incomplete now that she's got enough magical mastery to notice...
shaking her head, she stretches again - relaxing a little more at a satisfying pop from her back - before speaking, "...I see you've been practicing. that's good. now try with the practice blades I made last night," she crouches down to scoop them up, then steps over to hand them to him, "...I'd advise focusing on just hitting the target and summoning them back when you run out. you can practice force once you've got accuracy down. that's how I learned. just...less teleporting involved, as I'm sure you can imagine..."
she steps away, walking toward a particular tree and sliding a bayonet from her sleeve to carve a target into the bark before stepping aside, "you'll be using this to practice your aim, unless you'd prefer we resume our journey now"

Lucian hummed in contemplative thought, trying to determine the best course of action here. “Yes, I think some practice would be good. It… may be better if I improve at combat, in case if another wolf or some other creature attacks us on the way.”
He took hold of the wooden blades in his claws, testing their weight. They should be light enough to throw, and hopefully he wouldn’t end up accidentally injuring himself or Rena should his throws go wide.
He lined up his aim, taking hold of one of the blades. He held it loosely in his claws as to assist in letting it take off. He proceeded to throw his knife at the target…
Only to miss entirely.
The hilt of the blade bounced upon the soil next to the marked tree, bringing up dust and dirt as it did. It landed harmlessly on the ground.
That… could’ve gone better. But it could’ve gone worse too, he could’ve accidentally hit Rena with the practice blade. Not that it would give her more damage than a splinter.
