Rena tilts her head, a curious glint in her eyes...no, she won't press. if this person is who the crow thinks, she'll be harder to scare off than the cleric is giving credit for. in the meantime... "...I was a wanderer with neither clan nor family. he was a smith, warrior, and storyteller for his clan. he found me in the middle of a storm, our feathers sodden and my body ridden with chills. his first words to me were to come sit by his forge, and that I looked rather akin to an unusually mossy river rock," she smiles softly, letting out a quiet giggle, "...he took me in out of the rain, gave me a warm meal, insisted that he'd be just fine sleeping on his anvil while I took his nest, and didn't let his clan run me out when they discovered who he'd been harboring...he would've been well within right and reason to run me off when he recognized me - and I know he recognized me on sight - but he didn't...and that, more than anything else, is what piqued my interest. That this warrior-smith would be kind enough to take in an out-cast wanderer..."

Elvira smiles and chuckles softly, shaking her head. "That nearly sounds like it had been torn out of a page of a romance novel. It's incredible. He is a good soul, I could feel the energy he gave off."
She looks back up to the sky, noting the position of the moon. "We have a few hours before I need to begin the ritual. I'll make a campfire." She reaches over and opens her backpack, taking out a few supplies. A flint and steel, some dry grass from the plains wrapped around a few sticks, and a small folding fan. She stands and begins to gather some tinder and firewood.
A couple moments later, she begins to place some stones in a circle and stack the wood. After placing the makeshift fire starters on the bottom, she strikes the flint to the steel a few times. It didn't take long for a warming fire to begin to crackle. As she fans the flames, she takes a seat. A moment passes as he cleric looks back to the clutch of eggs and smiles. "They give a strong aura, I feel they will be powerful warriors, or versatile hunters." Now, she gives a sly grin. "Perhaps one will even turn out to be a cleric!"
A second later, Elvira gasps dramatically. "My, I have been a poor friend! Do you hunger, Rena? I am unsure what you would eat, but I have a few different meats preserved within some salt in the bag. You may look in there and take your pick, just please be careful with the books. My... my parents gifted them to me just before their passing."

Rena smiles softly, "...that...would be appreciated indeed, my friend. I've not had much to eat beyond rations for the last few days, and such fare does little to soothe my affliction"
She glances to her eggs, smiling a little wider, a little more earnestly as she runs a gentle hand over the smooth surface of one, savoring the knowledge that her family was safe and whole, for the most part. She can wait to reunite with her husband, content in the knowledge that he's rather literally with her in spirit, waiting and watching, aiding her strikes and throws and simply being there for her. Her children, safe from most harm within their reinforced eggshells, ready to hatch when conditions are right...yes, things are good for this little crow.

Elvira gave a nervous look and pulled out a book from her bag, quickly flipping through. With a dissatisfied look, she closed it and turned to the crow. "I must be honest, I have no clue what you feast on. How does one of the avian variety typically dine? I have little idea of the mannerisms and etiquette of your people. For that, I must apologize."
She didn't show it, but she felt rather bad about that. She had cared for many people across Charon, but very few of them were avian. Nonetheless, her chance to learn was now and she would do everything in her power to care for this strong being sitting across the fire from her. "As I have said, my friend. Take the opportunity to request anything you need from me, for I wander ever so often. It is not uncommon for me to never see those requesting my services again. My time is yours, as of now. Feel free to inform me as to how I may benefit you and your family's lives tonight! I take a great pride in doing so, it is what I have studied for all these years of my life."

The crow-mother chuckles softly, letting out a gentle trill of amusement, "...oh, don' worry yourself about that. the little valley the clans shared was isolated enough I'd be surprised if you knew more than the barest details...anyhoo, even before coming down with this affliction o' mine, I ate mostly whatever meat I could hunt and whatever fruit I could forage...though that was before Bell took me in. after that it was whatever the clan could hunt and forage or slaughter and farm, with me mostly helping with the hunting...I was always pretty good at that, thought I've gotten rusty since Fimbulwinter. Bell's Bayonets helped a lot, though I hesitated to use them on my hunts for...a while after he forged them. they were too precious, y'see..." she smiles softly, relaxing back against the tree and holding up one of the aforementioned blades to the starlight, watching the way the dim glow glints off the metal, fancying she can maybe see her husband looking back out at her.
"...anyhoo, a bit o' salted meat'd go down a treat. not as good as fresh for the purposes of my curse, but good enough for me," she chuckles again, glancing over at the cleric as she hums, "...y'know, it took me an' Bell a while to properly realize how we felt about eachother...I rather think it was about that time when he went out to help do battle with another clan and nearly didn't come back...I just thought about how it what I would've done if'n he'd died...and then I realized the answer was...nothing. I'd have just...gone out to the battlefield, found his body, and waited there next to him until I just...stopped. there just...wouldn't have been any point, y'know? sure, I'd've had the clan, but they only put up with me 'cause o' him. really, the only reason I didn't do exactly that when I lost 'im in the snow was 'cause of the little ones..."

Elvira smiles. "I'd have been horrified to use the blades myself, at least initially. It would only make sense that you wished to take care of something you received as a rather beautiful gift from someone you had such a connection with, even if it were an unconscious connection. As for the meat, I had purchased some spider meat in the Marsh Lands. I think you'll rather enjoy it. In some regions of Charon it could be considered a delicacy!"
After hearing the story of how the two had figured out their love, she laughs softly. "So you are telling me to send the one I feel for into battle and let them almost die? That sounds like a rather fine idea! I jest, of course. I suppose I will, how did you say? Lean into them! I suppose that will suffice, not to mention it should be less painful for them!"
With a warm smile, she passes some of the meat over to the crow. After a second, she tilts her head curiously. "By the way, do you feed your children in a similar way to the... I guess one would say 'normal' birds? Or rather, are the children more independent when it comes to consuming foods?"

The crow chuckles softly, sliding her bayonet back up her sleeve, smiling a little when she feels it settle into its sheathe. She hums a little, tilting her head slightly to one side, "...oh, I wouldn't advise letting your precious one into danger if'n you can help it. 's not fun, and the risk is rarely worth the result. no, better to just find as many reasons to be with her as you can..."
The rogue sighs softly, letting out a quiet chirp, "...aside from that...yeah, spider sounds good. stars know I used to love the roast spider the clan used to make...I'd go out o' my way just to take down a few hundred pounds o' arachnid just for a taste..." then she coughs a little, "...ah, the little ones won't need fed until after they hatch...and they'll be nursing for a few months 'til their beaks fuse properly, at which point it's...probably ground offal and mashed fruit? 's been a while since I helped with the chicks back at the clan..."
Rena happily takes the offered meat, ripping off small pieces with her beak and savoring the taste for a moment before swallowing, trusting her gravel-dotted gizzard to take care of the chewing. Not quite as good as the Blackfeather Clan's roast spider, but definitely close...perhaps with some different seasonings...

Elvira slightly shrugs as she prepares a drink over the fire. placing a pot on the tinders. "I truly wish to have her at my side as much as I can manage, but... ah... a free spirit fills her body. I suppose I have one too, which in truth only makes the thought of romance with her harder, possibly a far reach even." She suddenly reaches up and pinches the bridge of her nose. "What in the hells am I even doing? Mother Crow, forgive me for indulging in ludicrous fantasies.'
Her hands work diligently as she begins to crush leaves with a mortar and pestle, pressing and twisting while swirling the pestle around the mortar. A fine powder forms and she pours it into a small fabric pouch, creating a makeshift teabag. She repeats the process with a few berries and various small fruits to create a sort of custom tea, sweetened naturally by the sugar in the fruits. "This is a recipe from the Temple. It has been said to cleanse most spirits of troubled thoughts in the moment. Always worked for me, but one of my childhood friends says it's just showmanship and placebo. I suppose you can be the jury on this trial." A gentle hand carries a tin of the tea over the the crow as she offers the drink with a smile.

"fantasy is never ludicrous. unlikely, perhaps, but never ludicrous," Rena hums, trilling softly glancing over at the elven cleric, "...even free spirits have a home they settle in every now and then. believe me, I'd know. try finding, or better yet, get an invitation to hers. or invite her to yours. either works. that said...you will regret leaving this be. I've seen people pine themselves to death before, and I won't 'ave one o' mine driving themselves down that path - " she cuts off, blinking and staring into the distance, muttering, "...one o' mine...when did that 'appen?"
she shakes her head, sighing and gratefully accepting the tea tin as she hums, sipping at the drink and trilling appreciatively, "...this is pretty good. do I taste a wee bit o' chamomile?" she smiles, taking another sip and relaxing back against the tree, "...in any case, ye cannae just ignore it and hope it'll go away. y've got t' do something about it, or it'll fester and rot inside o' ye 'ntill ye go mad...or worse. and who knows...if'n y're lucky, y'll end up with a lifelong companion, and I cannae help but think that's worth the risk"
The crow smiles, trilling softly and pulling out the smaller of the two vials Tatalia had given her, popping the cork out and downing it like a shot with a murmured, "...now's as good a time as any t' see if'n it works..."

The cleric had been nodding silently, listening and taking in the advice of the avian. Upon hearing the words "one of mine," she perked up and couldn't help but to crack a smile. She notices the confusion and laughs softly. "It's okay, Mother Crow. I love you too. And... well... you are right. I should reach out for her. I think... I think I'll do that when I next meet with her."
As the crow sips the tea, she smiles softly. It felt good to have someone to finally talk to, to unload and process her emotions with. It was a nice change of pace. "There is a touch of chamomile, yes. And yes, I promise to let this fester no further. Mad clerics are no joke!" She allows a soft laugh and scoots to place herself closer to Rena. After downing a bite of some of the spider meat, she nods her head. "I too would say that is worth the risk. It's just... hard. The feeling of losing someone is not foreign to me by any means."
Once the crow began to down the foreign liquid, she tilted her head. Her whole demeanor seemed to change from bubbly to confused. "That looks... familiar. Did Tatalia give this to you?"

Rena shudders a little at the taste, grimacing slightly and working the cork back into the vial before pulling out a cloth to wipe her beak with. She sighs softly, "...yeah. she said it'd help with my curse...tastes absolutely vile though, I dinnae ken how she can stomach it herself..." The crow shakes her head, pocketing both cloth and vial as she settles back, wings twitching a little as feels the potion slowly, slowly take effect.
"...there we go," she murmurs, finally relaxing as the squirming thing under her skin settles and stills, "...looks like it works. I'll have to look into making some more myself...a-anyhoo, I'm not...particularly surprised that you've lost people before...tragedy seems to follow people like us..."
The crow sighs, cradling the satchel holding her clutch close to her chest as she gazes up at the stars with silver eyes, "...stars, it's horrifying how much we have to lose before things start to get better...but at least things get better once you get through the worst of it..." she trills, those silver eyes flicking down to look over...over her little cleric. stars, she just hopes that the cleric and her goblin get their act together soon...

Elvira paused upon hearing that the potion was made for the curse. How did Tatalia know? Perhaps she'll have to ask later, but her thoughts ran wildly now. This was only worsened upon seeing that the skin on Rena's forearm was calming down to stop. "What in the hells is going on...?" One deep breath later, however, she had her mind under control.
The last remnants of her stray thoughts were quelled with the crow's words. She went to speak, but was stopped by the silvered eyes glancing over her. A blush took over her face and her eyes became beady. She hadn't looked at like that since... well...
A smile cracks across her face followed by a tear streaming down her face and a soft laugh. She looked to the fire and leaned over, placing her head on the crow's arm. It was an odd feeling for her, and she felt as if she were doing something wrong, but the feeling of comfort being here was overpowering. She felt cared for, even wanted. It was such a contrast from the emotions she had felt being raised in the Temple, where she had been forced upon the priests and priestesses after her parents had been killed.
"Mother Crow? I hope you know I'd die for you," she said. Her voice was serious, filled with emotion. It was clear she meant every word.

Rena starts a little, smiling and trilling softly as her free hand goes to gently pat the elf on the head, one wing flaring wide and gently curling around Elvira's side as she relaxes further, settling back against the tree and staring into the flames with silver eyes, "...hm...that's rather sudden...and I'd rather you live, but I appreciate the sentiment..."
She cradles her clutch-satchel with her free arm, trilling contentedly as she relaxes in the heat of the fire warms her frozen bones, chirping sleepily and cuddling with...with her little one...it's nice to have someone to hold again, even if it isn't her Bell...
...the fire is warm, the night is chill, Rena herself is just a little colder than the night air...it's rather cozy, actually, snuggled up and tucked under her wing...
...Rena begins to hum softly, the melody that of a gently lilting lullaby as her silver eyes drift shut, her body gently rocking back and forth as though trying to slowly rock a child to sleep. she softly murmurs unintelligible lyrics, humming and trilling and rocking from one side to the other, a soft smile on her face as she holds the newest - and eldest - of her little ones close.
