Thaddeus grinned and smiled happily as he wandered the town. He wasn't with the cirque currently but had wanted to help around the ashlands where they had been around the time of the destruction. He knew how to find the cirque when he was ready to return home but for now these people needed help. Most were rather confused about the brightly dressed man wearing the mask but he didn't seem to notice or mind as he worked to help around the place grinning on occasion as he did little tricks for the kids like making a coin appear behind their ear or making a flower appear with some sleight of hand.
Around the time for a break he smiled and turned away from people taking his mask off for a moment to wipe sweat from his face before then putting it back on and going back to work. It was nice to have a little break with water and everything before doing more. He always kept his little grin on his face as he moved around from here to there talking and getting to know a few people as he went and tried to keep the spirits of the people up

Helping mortals was beneath a demon. Community service was most definitely beneath a demon, but Azazel's ambition demanded absolute obeisance, to the point of subjecting himself, his subservient wrath demon, and his vessel to indignity to serve. He had far-reaching plans for Charon: the sort that required his name to be known far and wide, and so, if that meant cleaning some meaningless city in a place that Azazel didn't care about, so be it.
That wasn't to say, however, that the manipulation demon would stoop to such lows himself. No, he had plied his talents to gather a small worker crew to sweep away the debris in the city streets. It was a banal, mind-numbing way to pass the time, but it served a purpose, and, thus, Azazel committed to the task. Arteron, however, was not likewise placated.
This is ridiculous, Azazel. We should be out killing things, people. At least doing your talking thing to get more power. How is sweeping streets in any way a good use of our time. Peace, Arteron. We have all the time in the world. You speak like a mortal. How about you let me worry about the stratagems while you fantasize about the next time I allow you out to play?
The wrath demon mumbled angrily under his breath, but Azazel didn't care to listen to his complaints. It wasn't as if he enjoyed this anymore than Arteron did. Continuing to idly swish around a broom with his magics [Telekinesis], Azazel took a seat on the ground, resting against a nearby building, and closed his eyes, soaking in the warmth of day. For whatever myriad problems that came with mortal fragility, little pleasures like enjoying sunlight were small comforts the demon treasured.
After a few minutes, Azazel felt a shadow pass over him. He fought a grimace and merely pointed to his little cleaning crew with a jerk of his thumb, without opening his eyes.
"I'm supervising, and you're in my light."

“Oh? Supervising with your eyes closed hm? That’s a new one” he joked with a sly grin on his face, his fox mask in place as always. “You must work quite hard mister supervisor” Thaddeus joked with sarcasm as he looked the other over. Was this other supposed to be some oh so noble adventurer here to help? If so this was quite comical to the performer.so the other was attractive and to him at least was amusing for the time being. He leaned next to the other on the building and drank some of his water.
“So you’re of those adventure types eh? Where are you from?” He questioned deciding to bug the other instead of leaving him alone. The other did intrigue him some after all and it was about time for a small break anyways. As he waited for a reply he relaxed enjoying the small breeze that blew through the destroyed city. Luckily it wasn’t too hot a day for the moment and work had been going pretty smoothly on rebuilding the city after moving the rubble out of the way. His gaze then drifted back to the mysterious supervisor before him

Azazel cracked open an eyelid and then raised an eyebrow as he looked at the mortal standing over him. His dark hair framed his ears and just peek out above the fox mask he wore, which dominated the upper half of his face. The demon wore a smirk as he leaned back further, fully unrepentant in the view of this man who took amusement at his inaction.
"Why, of course, don't you know? All the best supervisors train their workers to be so competent they can do the job without excess interference. Consider my action a demonstration of faith in my workers' abilities. Besides, I'm not wholly idle, you know."
Azazel gestured a lazy finger over to the broom that still dutifully, if ineffectually, swept clean the designated area. He cocked his head slightly as the mortal leaned on the wall next to him and asked about his origins.
"'Those adventuring types'? Can't say I care to be lumped in with anyone mentioned so casually." The demon breezed right past answering the question outright and focused on the second part. "A question for a question: what do you seek to gain by knowing my homeland? Answer me this, and I might just tell you." The demon's words trailed enticingly as Azazel gave a charming grin.

Thaddeus watched the other lean back further not seeming to mind his teasing and joking.it was a bit unexpected but not unwelcome. “Oh? And what happens if they just decide to take a break or stop working mister supervisor?” He asked curiously with his sly little grin still playing upon his lips.Thaddeus’ gaze then turned to the self sweeping broom “ah a magic user. Why not just do that for the whole clean up then?” He wondered aloud.
Thaddeus tilted his head a little at the way the other avoided the question and asked one of their own.”merely curious is all. Most here are oh so brave and noble adventurers” he said this in an exaggerated manner gesturing around. “I gain nothing besides casual conversation really. I figure it is a basic question to ask others where they are from. May even open up new chances for better conversation. Quite a few people love talking about themselves. Would you prefer I ask your name instead mister supervisor?” He questioned the other a bit confused but mainly amused by the others words and actions. Usually people were happy to talk about themselves or at least made up a quick lie

The demon's glittering emerald eyes seem to flare with amusement as the fox asks more of him. "If the workers stop their duty, they'll be executed. Perhaps I'll be lenient and just flog them. No point in laborers who refuse to labor, right?" The man's words were suggested a joke, but his tone was deadly serious and his smile was just a little too wide. The next moment Azazel's pleasant demeanor retook its place on his face, so suddenly that the oddity of his statement might have been thought to be a simple trick of memory.
"Don't get me wrong darling, I love nothing more than extolling my virtues, but the world is a dangerous place these days. Can never be too careful when it comes to preserving your longevity. I'm Azazel, and I won't claim to be noble or brave, though I suppose I am an adventurer in the barest sense of the word. And now it's your turn: your name? Or shall I merely refer to you as Fox for the foreseeable future in our interactions." The demon's smile was charming but his eyes were pressing, probing. They saw too much, far too much for any normal person.

Thaddeus paused surprised at the others words and strange reaction but he tried to shrug passed it with a small laugh “quite a cruel joke mister supervisor he replied at that. He then grinned at the word darling used to address him “hm darling, Fox, neither are bad but I am known as Thaddeus, at your service” he replied with a joking and exaggerated bow. Thaddeus had his guard up a bit as usual though it was hard for most to see. He dealt with people so often that he was adept at acting around them.”lovely to meet you mister azazel” he stated. He was still curious of the others origins and more about them but decided it best to take things slow and perhaps let the other lead some of the questioning if they didn’t want to answer as easily.
Thaddeus glanced to the self cleaning tools and the servants who had accompanied the others. It didn’t seem like they were the usual happy retainers or whatever but then again this man was strange as well. Within a few moments he fully focused back on the other from behind this mask. He examined the movements and reactions of the others as the conversation continued

Azazel let forth a great laugh, boisterous and full bodied as it echoed through the courtyard, at Thaddeus' remark about his 'joke'. He leaned forward with the grim slash of a smile on his face as he peered at the fox-man with glinting eyes. "You'll find that I can be very demanding. Things and people alike have roles that they are meant to fulfill. A person that refuses to perform his role is as useless as a dull blade or an umbrella riddled with holes."
The demon smirked as he watched the effect his statement had on his new companion before leaning back to lean against the wall, as nonchalantly as before. This is an amusing fox. His reactions are marvelous, and evident as the noonday sun. What are masks, physical or otherwise, before a being of my acumen? Ugh. Let me know when you stop stroking your ego or when there's a fight. I've had enough of you and this puny fox and this boring city for today.
Azazel smirked at the wrath demon's annoyance, deciding that Thaddeus' part in it warranted a bit of a reward. "I come form the illustrious Zeinav City, dear Thaddeus: a more reprehensible hive of scum and villainy you would be hard-pressed to find. For all its faults," the demon continued, meaning the city's nobler virtues, but letting his companion take of his words what he would, "It is the glittering jewel of my eye, and I shall remake it into my image soon enough."

"Oh? So what is your role, your great purpose to fulfill mister supervisor?" he asked curiously wondering what the other thought his purpose in life was. He himself was just thankful that he had change his own 'purpose' when he joined the circus. It had been much better than what he originally seemed to be intended for. He thought about the subject and strange idea of the man for a moment before focusing back on the conversation at hand as he heard the other answering his question. He was surprised but his grin returned fully happy to learn more about the other.
"Oh? Been there a few times it isnt too bad" he grinned thinking about it "I myself am from the dragons cradle" He replied before thinking of the last bit of what the other said. "So you wish to become the ruler of the city? Quite the lofty goal to accomplish. I suppose doing quests such as this is a decent way to gain a bit of a name for yourself whether good or bad. " he added thinking it over. It all depended on what the people said and thought about the other. That would make the biggest difference

Azazel nodded his head approvingly, glittering emeralds piercing Thaddeus in their consideration. "Indeed, the highest court of all is that of public opinion. When you understand what people want, what makes them rise everyday and fight through the mundanity of life, that's when you can make them believe whatever you wish." Azazel adopted a devilish grin and leaned forward, conspiratorially whispering into Thaddeus' ear.
"The dirty little secret about mortals is that they wish to be led. Paint them a rosy hope for the future, give them reason to believe that you will be the one to bring that about, and they'll beg to eat out of the palm of your hand." The demon smirked and leaned back again, crossing his arms above his head. "If not me, then some lowly charlatan masquerading as a noble politician. Isn't it better for the people to have someone with vision?" The demon chuckled, indicating his flock of laborers with a small nod of his head.
"Take these unfortunate souls. Working alone they were but scratching the surface of a gold mine of motivation. I united them in purpose, gave them assigned roles, and increased their efficiency merely by giving them the perception they were working towards something greater than themselves..."

Thaddeus nodded in agreement as he listened though he himself wasn't much to use such tactics at least he now knew the others thought process before leaning forward a bit as they other leaned in to whisper. What was the other planning on saying in such hushed tones?
He then listened confused, firstly by the term mortals and second "You speak as if you arent mortal? But are you sure that is what everyone wants? Personally I like leading my own life and doing as I please. I may help people here and there like this but I expect nothing in return, it is just what I want to do"
"So you think they are all happy with everything and their roles? For all we know they could just be doing what they have to until something better comes along" he remarked thinking about it. "There may just be people who surprise you if you look close enough. Not everyone loves a leader and not everyone will accept what they don't know. A silver tongue is not all that is needed in order to succeed over all." He grinned leaning back some "Quite an interesting way of thinking though mister"

Azazel made a disapproving sound as he shook his head with a disappointed look. "Dear Thaddeus, you speak of individuals, while I speak of empires. The difference in our scope is as you are to an ant. Of course, there will always be stubborn individuals: those who buck the reigns of rule even if such order brings prosperity to society. Such dissidents must be dealt with swiftly and forcefully, in the same way that cutting off a rotting limb is beneficial to the body: painful, but necessary for the wellbeing of the whole.
"Moreover, even such headstrong people that you mention are still motivated by something. Take yourself, for instance. If we take your own words, assuming no deceit, a terrible practice in general conversation but useful for the demonstration, you are presumably motivated by the rush of sentiment you gain from helping others. You have a strong wanderlust that prompts you to see the world. Before I would resort to cutting you down for such atypical desires, I would offer you a role that suits you. Even in my proposed world order, adventuring heroes will still be needed to protect against the myriad pests of the land."
The demon smirked, seeing his words having dubious effect on his companion. It was no matter; he had revealed all that he wished on the matter. "But enough about my vision, tell me of yours. Every second idiot has their own way to run the world, so imagine a perceptive young man like yourself may have a proposition that would be amusing."

"That's a weighted statement. How is one to know if it was truly necessary? How is it sure more will not rise at the loss of others?" he questioned with a curious smile as he looked at the other more curious than anything else now.
"Oh? And if people disagree with the idea that helping could mean capturing someone who disagrees with this supposed empire? Morality is quite a scale and one that is easy to tip for most." he remarked in though on this He then paused tilting his head as he thought about the new question. "I don't really care about power and such honestly. Hmmm perhaps a council of sorts so no one can make sole decision. Easier to fall into the traps of power if it is just one person. The people need to be heard of course though I doubt there is ever a true end to complaints. As long as people are safe and mostly happy then that is ideal i would say" he replied with a shrug "No world will ever be perfect but we can always make it more entertaining while we are here. Otherwise I'm sure this world would be quite dull"

This is going nowhere fast, Azazel. Surely even you see that. This conversation is giving me the shakes. I need to rip something apart.
Despite Azazel's internal annoyance at Arteron's violent urges, the manipulation demon was forced to agree with his subservient's assessment. It was a reach to think a mortal could comprehend the complexities of his vision. In fairness to Thaddeus, the man was probably presuming that he was a mortal: fickle, weak, and ultimately ineffective at governing outside the whims of their present desires. He'd never lived under someone of vision, and Azazel intended to take the world by storm so as not to give the ideologues the chance to question him at every turn.
Luckily his little band of workers had finished up and were now looking to him for more orders. Sadly, the demon's charity, both physically, by proxy, and conversationally were at an end.
"Questions for you to ponder, Thaddeus. You must forge yourself to resolution if you mean to assume command in this world. Those who wait and ponder will ever bow before those who act with decisive action, and, should it come to blows, he with the stronger conviction and battle acumen will emerge victorious. At any rate, I'm a very busy man. I imagine we'll meet again, sooner or later."
With little aplomb, the demon directed his puppet to rise, ordering his clothing to adopt a more sleek material to cause the accumulated dust to slough off of him. With a quick gesture of his thumb, he directed his makeshift workforce further down the alley and turned the other direction to begin walking to one of the city coordinator stands to report his success.
