Shaa the Minotaur could not remember the last time that he had this much fun. Since the catastrophic events of the volcanic eruption ( and giant dragon that came with it) Shaa had taken several odd jobs cleaning up the volcanic fall out. As an experienced former Terramancer and current Exalted Elementalist, he had so much fun moving rocks, diverting lava flows and putting out fires, it was like his own personal playground. He wouldn’t even have charged for the effort if he was not still paying off a busted ballista over at the fighters guild. If he did it right, this series of jobs would end his debt and put him back on the road to not being so poor all the time.
The latest job was a request to go to the sun scorched coast to take care of yet another hot boulder. But this request however was…odd. Shaa had first heard the request a couple weeks back. At the time, he was already involved in another job so he had passed on it. The request disappeared and he had figured it was filled by another closer adventurer. Three days later, another request came in, identical to the first. And again, it disappeared. This continued on like this for a week and a half until Shaa finished his job and decided to find out for himself what was happening. And maybe get some nice fishing in as a personal treat.
The big Minotaur had been on the road for awhile and finally made it to the origin of the request. It had come from a large semi permanent camp of savvy merchants who were there to manage some of the reclamation efforts. Apparently, some of the boulders had been found to have precious metals in them. As a result, merchants were gathering to watch some boulders being broke down to stake a claim. But this boulder, for some reason, was a problem.
Shaa was pointed in the direction of a stocky dwarf merchant by the name of Waylund. The dwarf was young for his position, only 80 years old and beardless, but no one questioned his business savvy or ruthlessness when it came to getting what he wants. The merchants had collectively decided, or were perhaps coerced, into allowing Waylund to coordinate the efforts.
The dwarf saw the Minotaur coming in the distance and flagged him down to a tent in the middle of the camp. You! Big guy. Over here. Shaa steps into the large elaborate tent and is ushered over a large series of large ornate seating pillows scattered around the floor. Sit sit. We are kind of in the middle of a poop storm, hope you brought some covers. Shaa raised an eyebrow curiously but decided just letting the dwarf talk would get him more information than by asking any questions. Poop. You understand? I was tasked damn near a month ago to get this stupid rock broke down and here we are, a month later, rock is still there. I am a damn dwarf who can’t get a rock broken. Do you know what that does to my reputation? Do you? It’s bad? Shaa offered flatly. Yeah it’s bad ya horned bastard, career RU IN ING. I need this done. Shaa rolls his eyes a bit. So what’s the problem, I feel your getting to a point…hopefully. Fine, come look for yourself.
The two walked out of the tent a past several others until they reached a road that lead to the coast. After a bit of a hike, Shaa can see the boulder …and the problem. A very grumpy drake had perched itself atop the rock. Oh. Shaa whispered staring at the very crusty looking beast. Yeah. Oh.
Quest Name: That's a nice boulder Participants: Two or more Location: Ashlands, Dragon's Cradle or Zeinav Desert Post Requirements: 5 post per person, 200 words per post Reward: +1 Renown Description: The recent eruption at Mt. Drakolt has caused hundreds of massive, flaming rocks to soar across the eastern coast of Charon. The primary roads and countryside around the Ashlands, Dragon's Cradle and Zeinav have all been littered with the giant rocks. They block travel and trade routes, as well as disrupt the local wildlife population. Some have landed in local farms, destroying important crops for the winter, and some have even landed on unsuspecting homes or wagons. Adventurers are needed to help rid the east of these giant stones, some still extremely hot from their time inside the volcano. How you get rid of them is entirely up to you, you can move them to a better suited area, or break them up into tiny, more manageable pieces. It does not matter how you dispose of the boulders, as long as they are removed.

Feckin sand, rocks are stupid, now he has to deal with millions of tiny little rocks? This is punishment isn't it? Stupid goddamned sand. Percy grimaces as he kicks up a large plume of sand only for the wind to blow it back into his face.
"ALL RIGHT I WILL FECKIN FIGHT YOU, I WILL FIND THE ARSE OF THE DESERT AND KICK IT IN AS MANY FECKIN WAYS AS POSSIBLE." Wandering in the desert was enough to upset anyone, but especially a man prone to letting his anger control him.
Eventually he did find his way to this same semi-permanent camp, though Percy came in through blind luck rathing than knowing about a job. He found his way to a water barrel, ripping off the top and tossing it aside without a care for how close it came to hitting someone in the chest. Percy dunked his head into the water and stayed there for a moment, both drinking in the water and cooling himself off.
He finally pulls his head out, slicking his hair back with a satisfied breath. The shark looks around at the camp spotting the minotaur.
"Well that's a big fecker ain't it?...Something about rocks?....OI." Rather than exercise any amount of tact, he shouts across the way. "S'this about some feckin rocks?"

As Shaa stares at the very cranky looking drake on the boulder, he looks back to Waylund. Ummm. Not for nothing but you should have mentioned this in the request. I would have brought back up…or a catapult…or something. Waylund shook his head. We did but after the first couple..incidents…. people stopped responding. But do you know what people do respond to? Money. That’s what is at stake here. And the longer that thing over there prevents us from getting into that rock, the more money we lose. The cagey response was not lost on him. Incidents? The dwarf exhaled slowly, trying to keep his composure.
Yes. The thing showed up overnight while we were still in the planning and negotiating phases of the operation. When someone discovered it was there, at first people thought it was summoned to protect the rock. Mages were brought in to unsummon it and…well…it wasn’t summoned. Waylund points to some conspicuous piles of ash near the boulder. Oh, you mean they… yes yes. We can’t even get close to bury what’s left of them. You see that flag over there? About 10 feet out from a bolder was a make shift red flag that was more than a little crispy. That is about as close as you can get. Any closer and… Shaa makes a motion with his large hands outward imitating an explosion. Exactly. This was a problem. As a matter of experience, Shaa was not a huge fan of fire drakes and they were not a big fan of him. This one in particular had one of “those” looks. The “ mess with me and find out” kind of looks. He is interrupted from his train of thought by a voice from behind.
S'this about some feckin rocks?"
Shaa turns to find a Triton man heading in his direction. He doesn’t recognize him but he is already annoyed by the interruption. Rocks and a big drake. Why don’t you go walk over to that flag over there and introduce yourself. I’m sure he would be happy to eat you…I mean meet you. He says with obvious sarcasm. Waylund shoves past Shaa and waves at the Triton. Now now. I don’t care who does it, just play nice and get it done. I’ll be in my tent trying to get rid of this blasted headache.

"Yer the one that looks like a fuckin steak." Percy shoulders his way past the two to look over at the drake on top of the boulder. Just the dragon? He'd never fought one, but to the hells with it. Sounded like a paying job and killing dragons usually pays a lot. Also...might get a chance to eat dragon which how many people get to say they've done that? Not a whole lot of drakes out in the ocean.
"Just sit yer arse up here beef man, ye an' the little one can thank me when it's done." Percy takes his mace from his hip and gives it a flip as he starts to head down the dune towards the drake.
As he approaches, it raises its massive head and exhales a heated breath from its nostrils. The air billows past and ripples Percy's coat just to show how sizeable the creature is. Percy was either too brave or stupid to care about the size difference.
"OI PRICK, THEY WANT YE TO FECK OFF. YE GONNA DO IT OR DO I GOTTA MAKE YE?" For a moment the drake is almost impressed with the bravado of the shark until it throws a mace at him. The heavy weapon crunches into its nose and bounces back to the triton's hand.[1]
Now it is just annoyed. The drake stands to its full height and unfurls its wings in a dramatic display. The roar echoes over the sands as it flexes its wings kicking up sand everywhere as it jumps down and lands in the sand towering above the triton.
"Good, I was hopin ye wanted a fight."

Shaa looked at the surprising scene thoroughly conflicted. On the one side, he had never seen a fire drake eat a Triton before and it might be kind of cool. On the other side…nope that was it. He just wanted to watch the swaggering hot head get chomped. But there was something about him that reminded him of the guild. The fighters guild was full of people who punched first and asked questions later. Jerks that were, for better or for worse, mostly good friends of his. He probably shouldn’t let possible talent go to waste. Ugh some days he hated being responsible. Where the crap was Athena?
Shaa calls out to him. Hey dummy. What part of you are nothing but a mildly irritating snack to her are you not getting here? Get out of the way and let a professional deal with her. The plan was simple. Shaa would summon a wall at a 45 degree angle to the boulder. This would cause the boulder to roll taking the drake with it. Boulder rolls over the drake, no more drake. Shaa gets paid, pays off broken ballista, goes fishing. Easy peasy.
Shaa works the math out his head and is ready for the attempt. I’m serious bro, you had better move. He stomps hard on the ground and a wall is summoned on the back of the boulder at a 43 degree angle, causing the boulder to roll. It was a little faster than Shaa anticipated but it would still get the job done. To his surprise however, instead of falling over, the drake runs on top of the boulder, increasing its momentum. It screeches loudly and, for a moment, Shaa could have sworn he saw it smirking from atop the rock.
Shaa is about to summon a second wall to stop it but the drake has picked up speed. The fighter jumps out of the way just in time as the drake adeptly rolls the boulder onward. Right towards the middle of the merchant’s camp. Shaa watches it roll inward not unimpressed. That’s not great but, admittedly, that’s kind of awesome too. Shaa doubted the the dwarf would see what was coming his way with the same level of enthusiasm.

"Real feckin bang up job you're doing up that Beefsteak." Percy grits his teeth in annoyance, sure just give the thing more weapons at its disposal. The triton already had it annoyed, but now the dragon be smug.
In a burst of rage and fury, the triton shifts his form growing several feet taller.[1,2] He grabs a hold of the drake's tail first with his jaws, shark like teeth tearing into it, before he grabs it with both hands and yanks it off the boulder. The wereshark slams the drake back into the sand.
"Yer fighting with me lizard-face!" This action has done nothing to stop the boulder as it careens towards the merchant camp. Admittedly, Percy didn't really think about that but he also didn't care about that.
The drake rolls over in the sand and back to its feet with a screech of anger, sparks gurgling in its throat. The gout of flame is released right in Percy's face leaving plenty of burn marks on his shoulders and arms as he blocks his face.
At the end of the fire, rather than a seared fish filet the dragon faces down a very angry wereshark, "That it ye feckin overgown shite excuse for a salamander?" This time he slams a fist into its snout, his hands hitting much more heavily than any first should.[3]

Shaa watches bemused as the Triton man grabs the surprised drake, dragging it off the boulder. With no one to steer it, the boulder was now on a haphazard path of uncontrolled destruction. He may lose his tip for this one. Somewhat unconcerned if the obnoxious Triton (shark man?) got eaten or not, Shaa opted to go after the more immediate threat of the boulder.
Summoning a small cloud to him, he jumps up on the cloud and cruises after the boulder. It doesn’t take long and Shaa can already see the pending path of destruction the rolling juggernaut will take. As a small preview, the boulder rolls over and completely flattens a small tent on the outskirts of the camp. Fortunately, Shaa can tell the tent was mostly empty but he knew that kind of luck would not hold up. He can hear some of the camp starting to scream ahead of them.
Shaa knows that boulder is way too heavy and dense to try to stop it outright. Attempts to do so would just get him flattened. He even doubted that going giant would be enough to stop it with the amount of momentum it had gathered. What he needed was to was to figure a way to slow it down again or divert to to somewhere a little less populated. Preferably not over the tent of the guy who was supposed to pay him.
Shaa starts summoning constructs just off to the side of the boulders path but close enough for the boulder to hit them. Construct after construct is summoned then flattened. Shaa can start to feel the strain in his stomach but he can tell that the boulder is now starting to veer off to the left. As they cross over a small hill, an oblivious merchant is suddenly in their path. Move you fool! Shaa yells as the merchant suddenly sees what’s happening. Agghhh! The merchant screams as another merchant dives into him, knocking him out of the way at the last minute. Nice save! Shaa calls to the nameless hero as he continues attempting to sway the boulder.
He can tell the boulder isn’t turning fast enough. Flying with his cloud, Shaa reaches out to touch the spinning sphere of death. It only takes the slightest touch, but using his elemental power to disintegrate a medium sized chunk out of the massive rock, the chunk throws the boulder into a sharp spin. The spin puts the boulder in the path of a wandering herd of Woolfuls. Baaaaa! The agile beasts see the rocks and start to scatter. What in the blazes?! Some apparently back into the camp.

Bravado, or stupidity, can only get you so far in a fight and it was only after about the second or third time he was thumped by the tail that he started to realize that. Percy burst up from the sands again to just simply charge the drake. He has plenty of raw power as shown by the way his mace or hands impact into the creature.
The drake certainly felt the hits, but it was smart enough to defend itself. Percy had no mind for defense. Every bit of him was a weapon or he could at least use it to inflict damage. Teeth bit into and pulled out scales while his hands softened the body.
For every hit landed though he was caught in a spray of fire or claw across the arm. Another claw comes in as Percy turns to punch it away, the sharp talons still leaving surface cuts along his arm.
His mind may be filled with anger and bloodlust, but the humanity in Percy still hangs on just enough that he knows he needs to do something to change the course of this fight. Something has to shift the balance.
When the next claw comes in, Percy instead decides to grab onto it and hold it in place.[1,2] He yanks it forward to pull the dragon off balance, raising his mace high as it stumbles forward. The mace comes down with a resounding slam that almost reverberates like a bell[3] as the drake then stumbles back. It's still alive, but dazed.

With no time to worry about what a herd of agitated Woolfuls would do to the camp, Shaa sticks with the boulder that starts to finally start slowing down in the dense brush. Normally dense brush was a big issue in the sun scorched coast as it was the frequent hiding spot to alligators and pirates alike. Shaa couldn’t imagine anything like that would have stuck around with a giant boulder rolling it’s way. Sure enough, between the brush and the chunk Shaa knocked out, the boulder eventually rolls to a stop. Shaa can hear a low hiss as the heat from the volcanic rock starts to infest the surrounding brush. Then, there is a voice from the side.
Well met Err Minotaur! It is not often that one sees a flying Minotaur chasing after a run away boulder. It’s possible that he spoke too soon. Umm yeah, you know, weird stuff happens. Just another day for me. The stranger chortles loudly. He is a middle aged human with a long leather jacket and a saber on his side. He has several scars on his face and a wiry beard that doesn’t look well kept. Indeed, indeed. He says with a casual tone. Lots of strange things happening around here as of late. Hard to keep a good head on you with all the nonsense, am I right my flying bovine? Shaa huffs, annoyed at the insinuation. I’m not a cow.
The man puts up his hands in playful surrender. No offense intended my friend. Some of my best friends are monsters. Strike two. But, it was you who interrupted our nap here in the glade. I think it only fair that we just keep your fine stone as payment for the inconvenience. We? Several more men and women emerge from the brush, all brandishing various weapons. Indeed my friend we. Surely you don’t mind. You may be big, but you won’t be able to take us all. Despite our looks, we are quite skilled I assure you. Now if you please.
This was bad. Shaa was going to watch his pay day get taken right from under his snout. He might of thought it wasn’t worth the trouble and let them try and move the stupid thing. But that wouldn’t look good and besides. All things being equal, this jerk called him a cow. He was much too annoyed with the entire situation to let that go.
Well I am sorry I messed up your nap in the bushes. Crap happens all around today. But, I have kind of grown attached to my nice rock and I don’t think I’m going to let you take it from me. The man looks a bit surprised. I know you are just a dumb Minotaur but surely you can count? You are helplessly outnumbered and outclassed here. Your only option is to turn tail. The man pulls his saber and points it at Shaa. Or die. Yup, that tore it.
Outclassed eh? As it happens I am a big fan of the one who made this big rock in the first place. And I don’t think he would be super happy with that assessment.
Shaa’s eyes started to glow red. Suddenly, his body grows and giant wings sprout from his back. Fangs replace his normally flat teeth. Finally his skin hardens into dark scales as he becomes a Minotaur/ Dragon Hybrid right in front of them. Mothers blessing what are you? Says the would be thief with trembling in his voice. Just the wrong person to mess with. Shaa takes a deep breath blowing fire and ash into the now panicking crowd of pirates.

While Shaa was menacing some people who rightly deserved it, Percy was still menacing the drake who was honestly very rudely woken up from a nap. The drake was growing increasingly annoyed at the little shark that kept biting it.
"Come on ye feckin sala-" Before he could finish the insult, it sounded like a crack of thunder hit. The drake turned with such speed to snap its tail like a whip and hit the shark dead in the chest.
Percy is sent flying farther and faster than he had ever moved before. He smacks right into the rock that started all of this, his wereshark form embedded into the rock for a moment.
"Oh good, well at least we can make it surf and turf."
The confidence of the bandits fades further as the shadow of the drake appears overhead, crashing down into the sand beside the group. Another vicious roar pierces the air as Percy finally peels himself from the rock with a grunt.
"SHUT THE FECK UP!" He stumbles into a charge past all the bandits as he relaunches himself back into the fight with the drake.
Percy leaps at the drake's face and grabs onto the first part he can which just so happens to be a nostril. As the drake thrashes and tries to toss Percy[1] sand is kicked up, between the sand and having a hand up its nose the drake starts to wriggle its nose. In a moment it sneezes out a gout of flam that inadvertently traps the bandits.
Caught between Shaa and the drake, they all cower with their hands over their heads and hope the combo of flames burns them quick enough that they don't feel pain.

The next few minutes are what is known colloquially as “ The fog of War” Fast movements, flames, screaming shouting all adding to the chaos of the battlefield. And this was Shaa’s most favorite place in the world. He was right in his element and these punks did not know what they were in for. With his vast experience and new abilities, they were in for a world of hurt. Admittedly, since gaining his dragon abilities, he had not had time to really test them out fully. He always had a tail and horns so nothing new there. His Elementalism had allowed him to fly so wings were a nice if not sometimes awkward bonus. But the one change that he was most excited about, were the obsidian scales.
Shaa famously wore no armor but chose to develop his body with a natural hardness that comes with fighting. But the scales changed the game. Not only did they protect him, but they came with one more ability that he did not expect.
Two of the bolder pirates rush at Shaa with their sabers held high. Shaa takes a deep breath and blows a pillar of fire right at them. Surpringly, one dodges to the side but the other rolls under the flame with keen agility. Shaa can see his strike coming but let’s him hit him with the saber to unleash his new ability. As the saber comes down on his black scales with a loud clang, several scales dislodge and burst outward, showing several close piranha with a hale of sharp obsidian. His direct attacker, being the closest, takes the brunt of the blast, shredding his arms, face and torso like a knife through paper. Dropping his saber, the pirate flops to the ground alive, but badly bleeding.
Stepping over the fallen pirate, he sets his eyes on the others. Several have already fled back into the brush, choosing safety over valor. The original man was no where to be seen. Coward.
Shaa turns his attention to the problem he was being paid for, the drake. If it was possible, the Triton man had managed to piss it off even more than when they first started. Drakes were a pain even on a good day. This big lizard needed go. With a flap of his wings, Shaa does a boosted hop over to the battlefield to get the drakes attention.
Ok scaley. I know you have a serious love for this rock but it’s not yours. You got to go or we are going to have problems. The drake looks at him with a bit of confusion but, shaking it off, goes immediately back to being pissy. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.
To everyone’s surprise, Shaa turns from the drake and walks over to the boulder. Touching the smoldering rock, he uses his Elementalism to pull all of the heat out of it until it’s nothing more than an icy cold hunk of stone. The drake makes a weird chirping sound and jumps on the boulder and then immediately off again. Its warm heating rock was gone. The drake does not know what to make of what just happened. It screams in frustration, clawing at the stone to try and find some heat but there is nothing. While it throws its mini tantrum, Shaa finishes a spell to cause it to rain. The drake cannot take it anymore and runs off screaming. Shaa smiles a bit and opens his mouth to the sky. In the distance, he can hear a very loud voice. Why are there a herd of Woolfuls in my tent!

Still attached at the nostril to the drake, Percy is not so willing to give up the fight. He pulls back on the nostril like someone pulling on the reins of a horse trying to get the wild stallion under control. He strains as the rage starts to leave and the pain in his muscles slowly leaks back in.
"Ye ain't leavin' that feckin' easy." Each word is pushed out through pain and exertion as he rears back his head to bring it back down onto the dragon's snout.
It was a combination of a headbutt and a bite that left massive wound on the beast's face[1] as Percy tumbled off and landed in the sand. The drake screeched in terror and pain, thrashing and kicking up a sand cloud. It stumbled over itself several times before collapsing into the sand.
When the cloud cleared, Percy and the drake lay beside each other in separate heaps. Both seemed to be breathing, albeit very shallowly. The triton had returned to his normal form as the curse receeded back. His head limply rolls over to look at the drake.
"Feck you....feckin bastard...lizard shite."
The drake turns its head and spits out a weak spark in response. It just wanted to nap on a warm rock, this was not on its agenda today.

With the drake exhausted and the pirates running for their lives Shaa returns himself to his regular Minotaurish self and walks over to check on them. He gives himself a hard shake to shed any remaining scales and stretches with a low groan. Ugh, how can something feel so awesome and so horrible at the same time?
Hey. Shaa thinks for a second and realizes that he he doesn’t even know the Triton man’s name. Everything happened so quickly , they had never even gotten around to introducing themselves. Now I was just awkward. I didn’t actually catch your name buddy. Mine is Shaa. I have to admit, you managed to handle that drake better than I expected. Way to not be dead. He thought for a moment and decided to broach the question. Did I see that right? Did you morph into a shark? I don’t think I have ever seen that before, pretty cool.
In the distance, Shaa can hear more shouting and the undeniable bleats of some increasingly upset Woolfuls in the camp. Get out of that you! That is not yours! Baaahhhhh! Don’t mess with them, that’s like really bad luck. But look what it’s doing to the rugs! After listening to the conversations, Shaa decides it would easier dealing with the drake than those guys right now. Or maybe ever. It might be easier to just cut and run. Friggen pirates. Technically they had access to a lizard free boulder now so he should be good right? Maybe he wold give them a minute or send them a letter.

"Aye...fer a bit...s'hard to explain...were ye like...a dragon cow?...sorry not cow, dick thing of me to say...shite what the feck are ye called? Minnow-tar? S'that it? I knew one once....saved me life..."
Percy slowly pulls himself up to his feet and dusts the sand from his jacket, "Percy, sorry again...bout the cow thing. Not a lot of minotaurs out on the seas, so yer the....second I've seen." With a grimace he resets his dislocated shoulder, letting the pain subside a moment before offering out the hand to shark.
"So, are ye like...fecked and cursed like I am or is it like...some cool magic shite that you can transform? Like ah one of them arseholes that can turn into squirrels and shite like that." For the readers, Percy is attempting to (poorly) describe a druid.

Shaa has met enough Tritons at this point to not take offense at the cow comment. Learning a new language is hard enough, especially when the world you are from is completely different. It’s fine, I know it can be tricky. To answer your question. Even without the obvious language barrier, describing how he gained his abilities by aligning himself with a god like dragon with the soul of the world was tricky. It’s not a curse. I am just close with a very old dragon who can lend me his abilities when I need them. It’s pretty handy.
It took a minute but he finally picked up that Percy thought he might be a Druid. Oh, no I’m no Druid. I am very attached to the earth like druids I guess but it’s more attached to the actual ground and elements than nature. Ummm I eat animals , I don’t talk to them. I’m a fan of volcanos and earthquakes not trees and bushes. More destruction than gardening. If that makes sense. But I can summon plants…mostly to wreck stuff? He felt his description a bit off kilter.
Shaa sighed knowing it was time to face the music. We should probably go collect whatever money is left after damages. Come on, I’ll make sure you get your cut. Anyone who sticks their hand up a drakes nose has to get something.. I doubt I will see anything like that again anytime soon. You might want to take that one out of your normal combat tactics. They start back towards the camp, a Woolful bleating in the distance.
