The icy winds cut through the trees like paper, threatening any travelers ill-equipped to handle the severity of a weather the locals knew of every day. Snow piled on and on, to think this place was under the constant pelting of fresh powder year-round would normally come as a surprise to most folk. This included the purple fellblood, having to have change into much more potent wears than their usual robe against the harsh weather. A fine thick coat was adorned along with equally thick pants and boots to match. A fur cap and self-made scarf kept their head warm as they made their way through the forest. Of the few places they had yet to see, the Frost Gale was so far, the worst in terms of being outdoors. Typical islanders are much more in favor of the humid, warm air and soft cool breezes. However, such a place is perfect when it came relearning necessities Ube had lost: The ability to take care of oneself, the capability to survive, and the opportunity to further one’s capabilities. Besides, as an informant, they would’ve had to checked out this region at some point.
1In outstretched hand, a flame amongst the snow storm burned bright as the fellblood trudged through the pure snow, their footprints being quickly covered over. Their best friend hid among the confines of their coat, that small and practically see-through body not equipped to handle such cold. Ube put a hand to their chest, petting the manta from outside. “I see a cave. We’ll stop there for now.” At least there was one thing the fellblood can affirmatively agree on in terms of improvement: Their capability for speech has gotten better, to the point of regularly conversing with Cebu. Although they still have a hard time bringing themselves to talking to new people, this was a step in the right direction.
There beyond the cloak of white, a cave did lie in wait for refuge. They made their way to it, snagging a couple low-hanging branches on the way. A fire wouldn’t be hard to start, what with magic being an easy fix. They silently thanked Kamille for her expertise on all things flamey.
Ube threw down a simple sleeping cot that Cebu had already taken to retreating to as they sat up a nice campfire further into the cave. A rock circle enclosing a bundle of firewood, minus the larger logs due to a lack of time. Placing their engulfed hand onto the wood, it easily lit and provided a nice light/heat. They sat by it, removing the cap to let their horns breath. Ube stared off out of the cave and at the pretty falling snow. As much as the weather was scary, there was a strange beauty to it that they couldn’t help but stare at.

Snow was a new phenomenon for Sylvari, who trudged through the stuff piled knee deep on her journey through the hilly plains. She had become accustomed to the more mountainous and urban regions of the world through sheer exposure, but as she held up her hand to inspect the specks of white as they fell upon her, she concluded this was a different beast altogether. It fell without ceasing from the sky, gathering in great piles of semi-moldable ground cover. Sylvari imagined the children among her people would have loved it. Here in the present, however, the snow presented unique challenges.
Sylvari counted herself lucky. Her undead fortitude rendered the bulk of the bone chilling cold impotent, necessitating only a cloak thrown over her armor, to keep the bulk of the icy precipitation off her body. Still, trying to wade through the white blanket consumed a great amount of extra energy and time to traverse. Additionally, the frost permeated her clothing and gave her the uncomfortable feeling of dampness omnipresently.
She was out here looking for a rumored trainer that could help her hone her power to better serve her ideals, rather than being a slave to her own dark desires. Sylvari had been searching for the better part of two weeks with no luck. Why do mystic sages always live so damn far? For once, I'd like to find a master that was accessible without a month-long excursion into the wilderness.
Sylvari huffed in frustration, feeling her patience for the day rapidly waning, and decided it was time to settle down for the eve. After another half hour of searching, she spied a cave that would act as shelter from the storm. She noted the soft glow of a campfire already going, but, failing to see any other options, decided to take her chances with sharing a space with the fellow traveler. She made her approach exaggeratedly loud, so as not to startle the cave's denizen, not that her bulky armor afforded her usual stealth expertise. Arms held high, she entered the cave, with a prepared speech in mind.
"Greetings, fellow traveler. My name is Sylvari, and I was hoping that I might share you fire to take shelter from the sto- wait, Ube?"

As they looked on at the white veil, a sudden noise brought up the fellblood’s guard. They stood up, readying themselves for a fight with raised burning fists and fully expecting an angry avianbear. Ube moved to stand between Cebu and the entrance before noting the metal clinks of movement of an armored individual. A soldier?
The voice that called out was a familiar one. Upon seeing the woman past met from the desert, Ube put their hands down slowly. Their focused, cautiously protective look turned to one of a calmer softened smile as they signed. “Hello again miss Sylvari. By all means, go ahead and warm up by the fire.” They waved over to the lit camp as the flames on their hands extinguished. Keeping that art up was always exhausting.
Pulling a decently sized rock over, the fellblood removed their coat and laid it out by the rock to dry. They then reached into their bag and retrieved 2 packs of rations: Bread and dried jerky wrapped in parchment. They handed one to the white-haired woman before sitting down and enjoying a well deserved meal. With bread in their mouth, Ube began signing a few questions. ”So, what brings you here to the Frost Gale? I’m sure you’re not here for sight-seeing, what with how cold it is.”

Sylvari took the small ration packet in a gesture of politeness, but merely rested it in her lap on a handkerchief she withdrew from her pack. Her thirst had been slaked just yesterday, and she didn't care for choking down mortal food when she didn't have to. Sylvari watched Ube as they signed; having met a few other people using the language in her travels, her grasp over the understanding portion, at least, had greatly increased. Sylvari smiled at her friend as she began to speak.
"Thank you for your hospitality, my friend. Though there is an ethereal beauty about this place, the practicalities of dealing with such weather leave much to be desired. No, my purpose here is for one of training. I've heard of a martial sage that lives up in this region, one specialized in unorthodox styles. Such training would benefit me greatly, I should hope, so it's my duty to pursue it to aid in my mission."
As Sylvari spoke, she folded her cloak neatly by the fire so that it may thaw and took off the outer pieces of her armor, hoping the night wind would wick away the moisture that had seeped into the padding underneath.
"And what about you, Ube? Fancied a snow day?"

An eyebrow raised at the connivence before they signed back. "Didn't know there was someone like that up here. I'm actually here for some self-training. I've been getting too reliant on my magic ever since I learned how to control it better so I wanted to get better at using my personal strength. Plus-" They looked out once again at the snow storm bellowing outside. "This is a place I've yet to visit. I made a promise to someone that I would explore and see the parts of Charon we never got to see." They chuckled a little at the old memory. Looking back to their visitor, Ube noted that they had ignored the food. It was an odd detail but not one they really minded. Fair enough. Must not like barebones food... Oh wait-
The fellblood quickly dug into their bag and pulled out a few things and sat them by the fire: A jar of chocolate pieces, two brown sticks with a peculiar smell, a vial of what appeared to be sugar, a waterskin, and a pot. They threw in a few pieces of chocolate and the rest of the items, adding a generous portion of water all into the pot and held it over the flame. Ube allowed the mixture to melt/boil as they looked over at Sylvari with an excited grin.
After a bit of time, the concoction was beginning to give a sweet smell in the air mixed with a hint of cinnamon. They shook the pot, not really wanting to use the sticks lying around to stir their hot drink. Lifting it away from the campfire, Ube reached into their bag once more and brought out a single wooden cup. They poured the light brown liquid into it and offered it to the woman while setting the hot pot to the side. "Here. My mother used to make this on terribly cold days. Hope you don't mind sweets."
They waited for a moment before signing a question. "So, what is this mission of yours if you don't mind me asking?"

Sylvari sat up straight and waved her hands side to side in a negative motion. "Oh, Ube that's really not..." Necessary. Despite her protestations, Ube still made Sylvari a cup of the strange brew. It bore a sweet-smelling aroma, so sweet it was obviously meant to appeal to children. Admittedly, Sylvari always had a sweet tooth, enjoying delectable treats well into her adulthood. Or rather, she used to, before her change. Now, however, the prospect of missing out on such a delicacy that she would have once enjoyed brought the ghost of a frown to Sylvari's face for an instant, before she forced herself to smile for her friend's benefit.
Sighing and steeling herself, she thanked Ube for the treat and chugged the whole drink, seemingly unfazed by the liquid that should have scorched her throat. Damn, still ashy, and it smelled so good, too. Still, knowing that it was made by a friend made the liquid go down easier, and she was able to genuinely smile at Ube.
"Thank you, my friend. It warms my heart that you would share such a dear treat with me. As for my mission, it has remained the same ever since my birth. My people are warriors of justice, you see, and each of us are dedicated to the arbitration of the common good throughout the land. My foes are strong and stronger still, these days, and though they are vile and loathsome, to disrespect their strength would mean death. It is my duty to forge my body into the sword that protects commoners from the darkness."
