The sounds of metal clashing and footsteps rang throughout the mountains. "Give it up! We're trying to take you back alive!" Rhythmic clangs of weapon and weapon, sparks flying, as Ai leapt back from her pursuers. "Real nice way of doing it!" She engaged once more, stabbing with her peculiar weapon as the sharp end finally connected with the broad shoulder of a zeinav bandit. Quickly, she pulled the weapon out and kicked the man down as the group was spotted a good few feet away. One of the pointed at the half-dragon. "There!" She clicked her tongue, promptly turning the other way and making a break for it, clambering up the mountaintop.
"Crap." She reached the ledge, the fall being a tremendous one as the bandits caught up with her. One stood forward from the group as the rest kept their scimitars drawn. "Easy lass. Just come quietly. Y'know your father already paid for us to just take you home." She backed up, unintentionally kicking a rock off. Turning around, she looked for something, anything. There, a little ways away but much further down, was what appeared to be a village of sorts. It was hard to tell how populated or if it even had people at all with the less than desired buildings being partially built. She looked back at the men with a cocky smile. The man already knew, what with her arsenal being obviously prevalent. "Stop her!" Without any hesitance, she leaned back until gravity did the rest, falling down the mountain.
Twisting her body till she faced the oncoming ground below, she tucked her weapon behind her back as she prepared. "Glad I finally grew these out!" Spreading out wide, the sound wind flapping as it come in contact and slowed her decent, large draconic wings. The scales of the outer wings being a glossy black color, the insides a nice dark shade of red. "WOOOO!" Ai, the water half-dragon from Zeinav, began gliding towards the spotted civilization.

Adam wiped the sweat away from his brow as he plonked a1floating chunk of wood amongst a pile of similarity sized ones. When he heard that they were sending people to the border between Zienav and Dragon's Cradle he couldn't help but feel pulled towards taking the job. He knew fate was pulling him here but he wasn't sure why; especially with this kind of job, he was hardly a hands on kind of person but here he was helping to build structures to expand this settlement. "Hey Adam, we need your floaty mind thing over here" Barked one of the other volunteers. "Right ... one moment ... and It's called telekinesis" He responded between heavy breaths, he had been floating material back and forward for a couple hours now and he had no idea the strain using it enough time puts on his body.
He rolled his sore shoulder as he walked over to the edge of the site and found yet another pile of wood, "well get to it" the half-elf let out a small groan. He cracked his knuckles before bringing his open hands in front of him, and with some strain he 1lifted the first couple logs. He held his breath and with heavy steps he brought them to the spot directed by his peers, plonking them down while letting a large exhale leave him. He squatted down to allow himself a quick breath "Fate why am I hereee" He complained to himself under his breath, "Adam we need the rest of the pile over there." and with a heavy sigh he stood back up and made his way back to the pile. Gods it's hot out here he thought as he took his arms out of the sleeves of his blue and gold short robe and tying them around his waist, underneath he wore a white undershirt that was already drenched in sweat but this allowed his arms to breath better.
He rolled both of his shoulders this time as he prepared to float the rest of the wood, with an large inhale he started to heave the wood up. Then for a moment a distant sound seemed to catch his attention, one that he had heard once before above a grassy field outside of Sol City. He immediately dropped the wood as he whipped his head to where the sound originated from, It had to be her, there was no mistaking that voice. Just then his heart skipped a beat as he lit up seeing who was gliding towards the settlement, "No way! Ai!?" He had completely forgot what he had been doing as he watched the half-dragon glide gracefully through the air, he couldn't believe his eyes; it really was her!

As the ground drew nearer, people started to catch the sight of a winged woman coming down to their village. Some were cautious, the rest rushed over with curious discussion amongst themselves. Ai leaned back, flapping her wings to ease her descent as she finally touched ground. The large group began to surround her, dumping a million and one questions. ”Who are you?! Where’d you come from?! What are you?!” “Woah woah, I’m no one important. Just some girl. Whats going on here?” In the past, all eyes on her would cause her anxiety. With time out, after her travels, Ai changed a little for the better.
With a closer look now, Adam can see the half-dragon he past met. Her body was quite toned now, not quite muscular but definitely more fit than before. She seemingly had a fair amount of exercise and/or physical training. A bandage was wrapped her arm, a smaller one on her cheek. A few cuts and scrapes from her previous scuffle still lingered. Though out of all new things, the most obvious one is her new set of wings. The wings themselves protruded the back, her red slit dress now being open back to allow her wings to come out.
“Well, we’re volunteers from the academy. This village, Hearthside, is under construction. We’re here to help with the building, food dispersing, and general charity work.” The second he said academy, Ai’s eyes lit up. Its been somewhere around 2 months since she first left Zeinav in the summer. It’s not likely but… maybe… “Um, there wouldn’t happen to be a half-elf here right? White fluffy hair, eye bags, amazing artist, usually chills in libraries, kinda short.” ”Adam?” Her tail flicked up at the name. “Yes! He’s here?!” The people stood behind her backed up, her tail wagging aggressively. She stood on her tip toes, trying to spot the half-elf she missed so much.

Adam grinned from pointy ear to pointy ear as he sprinted as fast as his legs could carry him. Two months, it had been two month since he had to say goodbye to her back in that café near the library. During those two months he had been taking any academy task outside of Sol City that seemed to pull his attention, each time he hoped that fate would bring them to the same place once again like before. He traveled so much in that time spending most of his time in Moonglade, but there was no sign of the half-dragon other than his memories and occasion sketch of her; well he did a lot of sketches of her.
He was on the opposite side if the site as the crowd started to form around Ai, 1yet with a gust of wind, a crackle of electricity in his veins, and a thunderous boom he propelled himself forward like a whirlwind. He skid to a stop on the the outskirts of the crowd and being quite short he wasn't able to see through any of the people hounding her with questions, only really being able to see the tops of her wings poking over the tops of people's heads. Then he perked up when he heard his name being said, "Oh yeah, He's right over there" somehow they knew where he was and like waves parting the crowd shifted which allowed the half-dragon and half-elf to make eye contact.
Ai would see that Adam's appearance hadn't changed all too drastically over the past two months, nonetheless there some slight changes. For starters he had gained the tiniest bit of muscle, it wouldn't be that noticeable but with the top half of his short robe tied around his waist, the smallest bit of definition could be seen on his tanned arms. He had assumed that his body had been getting trained from the repeated uses of his telekinesis causing strain, but that was only just a theory. Though other than that, a few bruises and a small scar on his nose this was the Adam she met back in the library.
He promised himself he wouldn't cry at meeting her again but see her in person send a wave of emotions through the half-elf. He smiled the biggest he ever had as his eyes started to water "Ai ... It's really you." before she could even respond he ran and wrapped his arms tightly around her. "I've missed you so much" for that moment nothing else mattered, he had been reunited with the one he had fallen for after so long apart. He slowly let go of his embrace of her and took a step back, admiring her new adventurous appearance. "Woaaaaah, you've been busy Ai. You look amazing! ... Wait what are you even doing here?"

“Adam!” She held the half-elf tight, squeezing him just like she did before. There were a couple childish oo’s from the surrounding students. Ai didn’t pay it any mind but covered Adam with her wings, figuring he would be embarrassed. To her surprise, he didn’t show any signs of such. Rather just pure glee at her arrival. She let out a laugh of pure joy as she released him. “Well, I’ve had a little adventure while I was gone. I’ll tell you more about it later. As for why I’m here-“ She briefly glanced over at the rock face she fell off of. There were no signs of the men, though something told her they were waiting somewhere overlooking the village. It should be fine. They wouldn’t dare attack students from the capital. She looked back at her long-missed companion. “Lets just say I’m winning this game of hide-and-seek. Anyways, look at you getting all sweaty. Is that a six-pack I see?” She winked after her light tease. It was strange how much she had missed him despite not even spending a full day with him previously. Then again, he was the first person to show her kindness and friendship. Maybe its a dragon thing. Dad did say they have a tendency to hoard things they like.
“What’s going on here? Why’s everyone stopped working? We don’t got time for this.” ”Apologies instructor, this woman suddenly showed up.” The teacher looked down to the pair, eyes widening as soon as they saw Ai. “A half-dragon…” Ai looked uncomfortable under their stare. She raised a hand and waved awkwardly. “Sorry for dropping in. I uh, just wanted to swing by and help out. I can, uhhh, well I’m pretty strong and I got cool water stuff if you guys are thirsty.” The crowd mumbled to themselves in agreement. A break would be nice.
“Hmph, I suppose that is fine. Just don’t go distracting my students. Break everyone! Though I need one of you to guide miss uh…” ”Ai. Ai Sool. Actually I think A-“ ”I’ll do it.” She froze a bit, looking over with an annoyed look. ”Very good Saelef. Carry on students. You have 30 minutes before we get back to work.”
Ai looked at Adam apologetically. ”Sorry, I’ll try to get to you as soon as I can. I promise. I won’t pull a disappearing act on you again. Oh but first-“ 1She waved her hand around as the sweat from Adam’s body pulled off. She tossed it to the side before putting her hands on his shoulders. 2A refreshing cool washed over the half-elf’s garments, frost coating before immediately dissolving in the heat of the sun. “Keep up the hard work shorty. We’ll talk before you know it.”

Adam cocked his head in confusion and looked over her shoulder towards the cliff face, he squinted to try and make out what she was looking for. Yet even with his elven vision he couldn't discern what she was searching for "Hide and seeking, what do you mean?" Yet when she teased and winked at him the confusion left his mind as he his cheeks flushed and he let out a nervous chuckle, "Oh it's nothing, barely even a one pack if you ask me. But who knew that using telekinesis enough puts strain on your body, I thought that it would mess with my head more but it seems to be the opposite actually." A warm smile was plastered on his face as he began to theorize about his accidental training, it was like no time had passed as he excitedly rambled like the day they had met. Until he perked up as his eyes finally locked onto her wings and he let out an excited gasp "Oh my gods, You grew your wings?! when did that happen ... Looks like I'll have to update my sketches-"
His sentence was cut short by the approach of the instructor, and he almost immediately straightened up "Ah instru-" though before Adam even had the chance to introduce his missed companion, Saelef beat him to it. Adam crossed his arms and let out a small annoyed sigh watching the rest of the interaction play out. Saelef had been another member of the academy tasked to help and oversee the students, and for the past couple of days they had been there he had been one upping Adam. At the mention of being a guide for Ai he lit up since he never had the chance to show her around Sol City "Oh I know Ai I ca-" but like before Saelef beat him to it. He froze a bit, looking over at him with an annoyed look who does this guy think he is
His gaze softened as Ai looked at him, "I don't think I could forgive you if you disappeared on me like that again, but I probably would anyways" He joked as he felt the sweat leave him and then an icy cold feeling immedicably followed, causing him to shudder a tiny bit. He didn't flinch at her touch and despite the frost that coated him he felt a warmth within him. For a moment he had caught himself staring at her longingly gods she's even prettier than last time he snapped out of when she spoke back up. "Now that I have someone to impress I'll work even harder, and I can't wait to catch up" He took a step forward for another hug but it was shorter this time, though just as tight as the one before.
As he watched Saelef and Ai walk off he had a slight grimace on his face, and as one of the students nudged him with their elbow he flinched "You like her don't you" The student teased causing Adam's face to flush even more "oh shush, I'm going to keep working" He walked over back to where he had dropped the pile of wood right before Ai's arrival, and wanting to impress the half-dragon as much as he can he inhaled and floated all of the wood up and started to walk it over to where he was instructed to. To his surprise wanting to look cool for Ai seemed to be a good motivator for him to push past the soreness that had been accumulating in his body.
Though as he plonked down another set of wood chunks he overheard "so how does someone like you know someone like him?" The way Saelef said it made it abundantly clear he was referring to Adam, this opened a tiny pit in his stomach; though it was unlike any pit he had felt before. 1He quickly flicked his hand toward Saelef as a tiny pebble was sent flying into the back of his head, though immediately after Adam's vision went blurry and his head felt light. This seemed to be the straw that broke the camel's back as the strain from using telekinesis extensively for the past couple days caused him to pass out.

Ai begrudgingly followed Saelef as he led her away from the main group. ”We’ve been here for a few days. I and some other people from the academy have been here on volunteer work as I said earlier. The villagers here are actually here due to the battle against Vulcadreaus. The damage it caused destroyed these people’s homes. With no where else to go, they came here.” She had heard of the fight against the god of rebirth. While the victory prevented the entirety of Charon from burning to ash, it seemed as though a large part of the citizens did not feel the very enthusiastic about the win. “So, how does someone like you know someone like him?” “Him? Do you mean Adam? I met him when I visited Sol City. Why?” ”You know he’s crazy right? How he goes on about fates and thread. He claims he can-“ ”Don’t call my friend crazy. His ability is cool, though I don’t know you’re on about threads.” His eyes widened a bit. “Wait, friend? You’re not d-“ The pebble tossed bumped the back of the elf’s head. They both turned, Saelef practically snapping his head back at the disrespect as they spot Adam falling over. The elf opened his mouth to yell before Ai cut off him. ”Adam?!”
She bolted over in a panic. Crouching down and placing a hand near his mouth, that panic subsided once she could feel his breath. “Relax, he’s overreacting. Probably overdid it even though we’re on break. I’ll have someone take him to the infirmary so we can continue with the tour.” Ai, without any hesitation or struggle, lifted the half-elf. At first, she tried to put him on her back as she remembered that her wings and new weapon were in the way. “No need. I’ll take him there. Been wanting to talk to him for a long time now anyways.” The half-dragon moved Adam to the front of her, holding him bridal style. The elf looked bewildered and confused. He grumbled and muttered a couple inaudible words before pointing back towards where the volunteers were. “It’s that way. Do come back soon though.” She bowed before making her way back.
“I leave for two months and the second I come back, you pass out. You allergic to me or something?” Ai smiled at her light joke, not really sure if the half-elf was conscious enough to even hear her. There were a few eyes on the two as she walked back, the sight being an odd one.

The last thing Adam remembers before his vision went dark was the panicked face of Ai as she ran towards him, then nothing. He opened his eyes to only see nothing but an endless scene of golden stars in the night sky, and a feeling of weightlessness as he floated amongst them. Time and space seemed to have no meaning here as he seemed to be the only thing amongst this infinite expanse. He continued to drift away as confusion ate at the half-elf, he was no stranger to visions while unconscious but this didn't feel anything like he had ever seen or felt before. Normally he would feel like an outsider looking in but this time it felt like he was currently present in whatever he found himself caught in. Adam in a rare state of ease carefully reached his hand out to one of the stars, he felt the warm radiating from it and it was almost comforting. Not soon after touching it slowly started to elongate into something Adam was well familiar with, a single thread of fate.
Remembering what happened last time he had touched a thread, he instinctually yanked his hand in panic. Yet the thread wrapped itself around his arm and tightened, letting out a small yelp he struggled against it; trying to free himself. As he struggled he could feel his body come into contact with many of the other motes of light around him, causing those ones to elongate as well and quickly snake themselves around him "No No No, I can fix this ... I can fix this" he repeated as he attempted to unravel himself and prevent them from snapping. The sounds of the threads were alomst too much for him to bear and the more he struggled the tighter the strings of light bound him until he was no longer drifting away. He was but a small fly trapped in this web of fate. He kept muttering to himself even as he locked eyes onto a golden silhouette off in the distance, "Hey! ... Who are you?!" The figure's head turned to acknowledge Adam's panicked cry and just stood there; though soon turning around to walk the other direction. "Wait! No Please help me! Don't go!" His desperate cry for help seemed to call on deaf ears as the golden man continued further away.
Then all at once a cacophony of snaps sounded out as all the threads that wrapped Adam broke, the half-elf tried to hold onto them yet his grasp was too slow. He tightly closed his eyes as he braced himself for the multitudes of visions that would come to follow. "I can fix this!" Adam shouted as he shot up from the cot that he laid on breathing heavy and very obviously panicked. Adam's head darted around frantically only to see the interior of a tent, and once again confusion washed over him. despite being still a little disoriented his breathing soon calmed once he saw that he wasn't in the void and he soon looked over to one of the chairs next to the cot, only to see Ai sitting there. "Um Ai? how did I get in here?"

The infirmary was a quaint little building: a small lodging with an engraved sign stating the building’s purpose. Upon entry, a small counter was set up with an abnormally tall sylvan in nursing uniform stood by. ”Ah, and what’s wrong with this one? Been getting a lot of you volunteers coming in.” Ai raised Adam a bit to allow for inspection. “He passed out earlier. Think he overworked himself.” ”That sounds ‘bout right. The lot of ya’s have been coming in here for that very reason. Just set ‘em on the bed there and we’ll look after him.” She walked past the counter and into the main room. Lined wall to wall were a matter of beds and chairs, a majority of which had been taken beyond a few close by. Ai carefully laid the half-elf down, rubbing his head before pulling a chair over.
The half-dragon sat in waiting for a few minutes before the nurse walked over. ”He won’t be waking up soon. They’ve been working for the better part of the day. Let him rest.” He’s right. Wouldn’t do good to just be sitting here till Adam woke up. She got back up, bowing to the nurse as she left the infirmary. Not without another little glance back at the half-elf. She was a little annoyed. They just met up again and immediately things got in the way. With a huff, she walked out to the other volunteers, forgetting she needed to meet up with Saelef.
The group was already hard at work by now, taking planks and logs around to the various in-progress houses. Without further delay, Ai picked up a stack, handled it over her shoulder, and began walking with the rest. ”Ah, miss Ai. Good to see you joining in. Do you mind supporting the dwarven fellows over there? They’re having trouble getting the hay and logs to the rooftop.” Ai threw out a thumbs up, making her way to the group of smaller statured folk. ”And how do ya expect me to carry all this while going up the ladder?!” ”Are ya daft?! Go up and I’ll throw it to ya’s!” ”Aye, so you can clock me head in with another plank?! Up yours!” Ai cleared her throat, alerting the two arguing dwarves. “Relax boys. I got this. Give it here.” She hoisted the bundle of planks from the man by the ladder. She crouched, lifting her wings up and before jumping and pushing herself up with her wings all at the same time. The force sent her straight up as she angled and slowed her descent onto the unfinished roof. “‘Preciate the help lass! We got it from here, I’m not too worried about hay hitting me rather than them there planks!” She nodded, hopping down off the roof. For a good hour, Ai spent that time helping the volunteers with whatever she could.
Lunch time had finally hit. 1Wiping the sweat from her head, she put her hands out as a table of mugs and glasses filled with cool water. The batch of students, volunteers, and townspeople took turns grabbing their various cups and warm meal kindly made by the local cooks. It wasn’t much: A chunk of bread, cheese, and a bowl of beef stew. Still, warm food was not something the people here would pass up. Ai had taken herself a portion and another for the half-elf she was going to go check on, an entourage in tow. They were asking a flurry of questions such as “What’s it like being half-dragon? How do you find clothes when you have wings? Are you close with that person you were hugging?” All of which, she tried her best to answer. ”It’s pretty cool. I’m a bit of a rare sight. I try to get my clothes personally tailored when I have the solars. Uhh, don’t worry bout that.” She was having trouble dealing with the onslaught of different questions before a voice piped up. “Hey, leave the woman be. Ai, where were you? I was waiting all day.” Ai shrugged, remembering she had promised to come back. “Sorry, forgot. I’ll make it up to you, I swear this time.” Saelef thought for a moment, before an idea popped in his head. “Well, there’ll be a little celebration once today’s work is complete. Can you accompany me then?” “Sure, sounds like fun. I gotta go check up on someone so if you don’t mind.” He nodded, excitement on his face as the crowd oo’d.
Ducking back into the infirmary, she moved over to where Adam’s bed was, setting his meal on a little side table as she sat an ate her’s. Though, he appeared to be mumbling something in his sleep. Curious, she leaned a little to try and hear before he suddenly sat up and shouted. Ai let out a small yelp as a few of the other patients peered over from their beds, a little annoyed at the sudden noise.
”Geez dude, you scared me. You passed out randomly and I carried you to the infirmary.” She stared at him quizzically, poking his cheek. “You alright? You look like you saw a ghost? What was that about fixing?”

Unknown to Adam, but as his vision was playing out, his eyes glowed their dull gold from beneath his eyelids; the glow was faint but would still be noticeable by someone who would be close by. Yet, as he shot up and his breath slowed, they slowly shifted back to their black color. His panic was soon replaced with a dull pressure that had placed itself behind his eyes. He closed them as he rubbed his temples, hoping to alleviate it. "Did I hit my head on the way down or something? It feels like my skull's about to split open," he groaned, the pressure still present though it had lessened in intensity.
He looked over to Ai with a warm but tired-looking smile. "Sorry, I didn't mean to startle you, and thank you for carrying me; I hope I wasn't too heavy," he said, his voice a bit sheepish. His cheeks flushed a tiny bit as Ai poked them, and he nodded in response, "Y-yeah, I'm alright. Just a ... nightmare is all, nothing to worry about. I get them all the time." He tried his best to flash a reassuring smile towards her, though it didn't quite reach his eyes. Even though his statement was half true, he did have frequent nightmares. However, he still didn't like lying to her. After confiding in the other volunteers about his visions left him not wanting to tell anyone for a long time, he convinced another group of people he was crazy. He shook his head to get the thought out, and he was finally back with Ai. He wouldn't let the past few days keep him from enjoying her company again.
He slowly held up his hand to attempt to hold the one poking at his cheek, though he stopped in his tracks as his stomach growled loudly. This caused Adam's cheeks to darken further. "Ah, pardon me, I might have missed breakfast this morning," He explained as he noticed the meal on the tiny nightstand beside his cot. He held out his hand to try and float the bowl over through a slight but sharp ping in his head. He winced as he dropped the bowl back onto the stand, luckily not spilling any of it. "Heh, I guess my telekinesis is out of order at the moment," he joked as he reached over, placed the bowl in his lap, and ate a spoonful of the stew. He swallowed and cleared his throat as he looked back to Ai. "So it's been around two months since we've last seen each other. What would you say about continuing our interview?" from his tone, it wasn’t entirely clear if he was jokingly flirting or strictly wanted to ask her questions. Even Adam was unsure of it. Either way, he reached into the pocket of his short robe and pulled out his trusty notepad.
Flipping past many sketches and notes from their time apart, though it was apparent a significant portion of the sketches were of her, he titled an empty page Interview With the Delightful Ai Sool Part 2. He looked back up with a warm smile. "So please tell me everything you did and saw for the past two months, even down to the last-minute detail." He looked up to her, anticipating her answers, until he seemed to remember something: "Wait, I didn't miss the Lunar Moth Celebration, did I? How long was I out?" He asked with a hint of worry.

Ai's eyes widened at the golden glow. She remembered he had mentioned it before but this was the first time she had seen it. Though... Didn't he say that happened when he used his power?... She pushed the thought aside, trusting the half-elf without question. "You're fine Adam, I'm a good bit stronger than you last saw me." Ai followed up with putting her arm up and flexing, trying to show off a little.
The attempt at a hand hold did not slip past her, a light red blush escaping her before the stomach of a hungry lad stole the moment. Ai giggled a bit. "Well here, brought you something to eat." There was a bit of panic when he nearly dropped the bowl before he recovered. Ai let out a quick sigh. "I'd love to continue our last talk. Ahem, let me weave you tale!" She hopped off her chair and onto the foot of the bed. "For the first month, I spent my time ship-hopping. I wasn't exactly sure where I'd be going. Just as long as I kept moving and stayed out of sight." The half-dragon let out a long sigh. "It honestly... sucked being stuck inside below deck after getting a taste of the outside. Going from being free from worry to having to hide just..." She shuddered. Constantly being on boats for days on end reminded her of her time before, always being home all day long. "It felt so cramped... But um, it wasn't all bad. I found this amongst the cargo." Ai reached behind her and pulled out her strange weapon. It appeared to be an umbrella. The handle and base color of the fiber was a deep black, a pink flowery design lined the rim. "The real cool part was when I landed in Darkveil. The bandits had lost all trace of me so I thought it'd be a good time to explore. I went ahead and walked around a bit and apparently some painter fellow and his assistants got stuck somewhere. But- get this, they were stuck in their own painting! So me and this swordsman named Javal entered the painter's world and went looking for them. It was this canvas of a pretty forest but somehow, we managed to jump into it seamlessly. Inside, the world we were in was just like the painting: A beautiful forest of a vibrant green. So, we started trekking the land in search of the painters. The first assistant we found amongst these ruins. I tried to go over and check it out but these plant monsters showed up out of nowhere and nearly bit my head off. Luckily, the swordsman had my back and cut down a few before they could get me. I fought some off with my water magic and as it turned out, the plants weren't even real. They were completely made of paints, yet somehow alive- Wait, whats this about a Lunar Moth celebration? I don't think you missed it, everyone's been working all day long."

"Whoa," Adam's eyebrows shot up as he admired Ai's flex, a flicker of something awakening within him. It was a mix of astonishment and an unanticipated attraction. He quickly composed himself, clearing his throat as he raised his pen eagerly. "Alright, spin me a tale!" he enthused, sitting cross-legged on the bed while Ai settled herself at the foot of it.
As she began her story, he focused intently, jotting down each detail, hanging on to her every word. When she sighed heavily, concern flickered in Adam's eyes, and he gently placed a hand on her shoulder, hoping to provide comfort. However, he swiftly retreated it to his lap, still not entirely comfortable with physical contact, even if it was Ai. "That sounds terrible, Ai. But I'm relieved you're safe and unharmed."
The atmosphere lightened as she mentioned her unique weapon, unlike anything Adam had ever seen. Its design resembled an umbrella, but its weight hinted at its lethal potential in skilled hands. "How fascinating. You found this in a random cargo hold... may I?" He delicately held the weapon, marveling at its craftsmanship. He turned it, observing from different angles, tracing its edge gently with his hand. He applied a bit too much pressure, inadvertently breaking the skin on his finger, causing his hand to recoil. He quickly pressed the tip of his finger to his lips to lick away the small amount of blood, then resumed sketching the umbrella.
When Ai described the painted world, Adam's eyes lit up in awe. As before, he buried his head in his notepad, his hand moving like lightning to capture every detail. It had become a pattern - every time she spoke, he was enthralled. When she recounted the peril with the plant monsters, he couldn't help but glance at the bandages on her arm and cheek, worry creasing his brow. Adam knew she was strong, but he still fretted over her well-being. Despite this, he smiled. "That sounds amazing and terrifying at the same time, if I'm honest. Was it an entire world inside the painting, or did the landscape just manifest on the canvas? Also, Javal sounds quite intriguing. I hope to meet him one day."
He finished jotting down all he could and then noticed the new pair of wings on Ai's half-dragon form. "When did you get your wings? And what's it like to fly? I've been trying to figure out a flight spell, but I can't seem to get the incantation right... Also, if you don't mind my asking, what caused these?" Adam placed his pen in his lap, his eyes returning to the bandages. Without thinking, he reached over and barely but gently grazed his fingers across the cloth on her cheek, then absentmindedly tucked some hair behind her ear. He barely made any contact but the thrum of magic could be felt through the veins in his hands. He glanced back into her eyes, a faint glint of gold visible, before quickly retracting his hand, visibly flustered by his actions. "S-sorry about that. Let's move on..." He fell quiet for a second, an expression of 'why did I do that' passing across his face before he collected himself with a deep breath. "Right, the Lunar Moth Festival. It's the big party at the end of work today. Most of the other volunteers don't really care about the moth part and only want to party. Though I'm excited because in this region, and only tonight, is when thousands of lunar moths take to the night sky. It's almost as if the stars in the sky double—no, quadruple in quantity. It's absolutely beautiful and a once-in-a-lifetime event. I'd love for you to be able to see it. I found spot that has an amazing view of it" He spoke with awe, his hands animated with his excitement.
