The two adventurers had managed to settle into a quaint campsite, sitting in the surrounding mists of the swamp. Their campfire had managed to keep the site clear and Keyke had managed to keep the insects at bay. All in all, it would have been a nice camp out if it were not for the fact that they were hunting down a monster. Shaa actually didn’t care for the term “monster” that much as Minotaurs themselves were often referred to that way. But in this case, Monster seemed to be applicable.
The two were hunting a Bogaboo. A ghastly creature made from bones who was more often associated with kidnapping children who didn’t listen to their parents. The famous researcher Lloyd had put out a contract to study the elusive creature and Shaa, for reasons of his own, had answered the call. Feeling a bit bored , Shaa tossed a random stick into the waning flames.
I have to admit Keyke, as much fun as I am having chewing the fat with you, this mist is getting annoying. The sooner we can hunt this thing down, figure out what it’s deal is and get out, the better. You know what I mean?
The two had been talking for quite awhile at this point but Shaa still didn’t quite feel like he had a good bead on his mysterious companion yet. She seemed nice enough but something about her screamed “Kobold in Woolfuls Clothing” so he had kept a careful eye on her. She had given a reasonable explanation for being there but it still didn’t explain why she was out here alone. Maybe the fog was getting to him and he wouldn’t be so suspicious if he had met her eating a birthday cake or something. And then there was this stupid creature. Was it really out there or was he tromping around for nothing. Guess they would find out. If they did find it, Shaa would find out for sure what this girl’s deal was.

Chatting was something fun and good to me. A natural curiosity between two people. But it always comes to an end; most times before that itch in my head gets scratched. It was so interesting to hear the world through someone so similar and different from myself. I heaved a sigh at the mention of finding the bogaboo. As much as I enjoyed talking, there was a task at hand. I let a smile return to my face as I answered. "I like talking to you too! Yeah, it would be best to take care of the Bogaboo before it ruins our chatting." I tap my finger on my cheek. I stand up, wiping the soil off my dress skirt, as I continue. "From intel I know, they are undead creatures, so light magic is best for us against them; dark is best not used here. That also means they don't need to breathe, that underwater is a possibility. Um..." I walk forward, shouldering my doll backpack once more. "They are quick and nimble. Able to maneuver through the bog and trees swiftly." I hop in front of Shaa, "Not to mention, being from this area, it's best to expect incredible strength from them in a fight."
I quickly hop onto a tall root as I walk around. "In my experience, they rely too much on surprise to take a person down." I give a smile, "Having two people already can challenge it, easy!" Quest Name: Calls in the night Participants: Two or more Location: Marsh Flats Post Requirements: 4 post per person, 200 words per post Description: A night or two into your search, you begin to hear voices coming from the woods, but only at night. These voices are faint and far, but are calling out for you! You can occasionally hear your name being beckoned into the void of the swamp, and while this would normally be enough to send you running the other way, you know this is the work of a Bogaboo, the very thing you are after. So, to do your job, you trek out into the swamp hoping to find this mysterious monster. But its a very elusive creature and finding it comes with it's own obstacles. Mud, bugs, thick vines, thorny bushes and more stand between you and your goal.

So the two adventurers headed out into the swamp, each time finding nothing but sticks, bugs and the occasional creature. Shaa swears that he saw a displacer beast on one of the trips but, as is their nature, as soon as he spotted it, it vanished. It was an odd feeling being together and alone. Even after the days of searching, Shaa felt no closer to understanding his mysterious companion or the elusive monster. Shaa did, however, find some edible mushrooms and a couple fish which he was cooking over the campfire for dinner.
The fish is almost done. He said looking over at Keyke. I hope you like your swampy. That’s pretty much what’s on the menu. Although, I have to admit, that giant lizard from yesterday was pretty good. Shaa turned the food slowly over the fire, watching bits of fish and mushroom fall into the flames as he turned them. When he was satisfied with the outcome, he planted one of the sticks in front of the strange girl to cool. Give it a minute, it’s still pretty hot.. He slaps his broad neck to take out whatever creature was biting at him.
Returning to the fire, he wondered how much longer they would be out here. He wasn’t exactly itching to get back to the unenviable pile of paperwork waiting for him back at the Fighters Guild. On the other hand, not checking in periodically was a no no and his absence, if too long, might spur a search party. They had already lost their actual guild leader, losing a second one would just be downright embarrassing.
Shaa….Shaaaaa. The Minotaurs ears perked up a bit at the sound of his name. Had he actually heard something or were his ear’s playing tricks on him? The swamp was infamous for will o whisks and other fea creatures leading you to your death in the swamp so it was best to ignore such shenanigans but there was something familiar with the voice. Hey Shorty, did you hear that?

Staying in the swamp was something slightly nostalgic to me. From the lizard meat to the scavenging for little things to eat. The small flash to the past in this foggy land was enjoyable while also uselessly tedious. I got used to the area, finding roots and branches to hop off of, even having a bit too much fun being carried by Shaa. the journeys around the place were interesting, Shaa seeing a displacer beast but it lives up to its name.
I sit on a root as the fish cook, giggling at Shaa's joke about the food. "Nothing wrong with that, trust me, I've had worse." I grimace at the thought of when Nit first started learning to cook. "The lizard was really well cooked, again, good job on it." I start to swing my legs, listening the the fire crackle as the voice spoke. I knew better than to open my eyes at a simple thing like that, but Shaa asking me is what drew my eyes open. I look around, locating where the voice could be from. I look back at Shaa, "I heard it, but..." I do another visual sweep of the area. "What's Astrid doing around here?"

Shaa looked over at Keyke in surprise. Wait? You know Astrid? For the first time in days, Shaa finally felt a connection to the strange girl. It had been months since the incident at the temple and Astrid’s heartbreaking decision to leave the guild. Even so, he had kept close tabs on the spunky hammer wielder to make sure she was ok. He had expected that she would meet all sorts of interesting people in her journeys but this one was a bit of a surprise. Or maybe it wasn’t. They could have more in common than he had assumed.
Well, you know the swamps. All sorts of people could be out here looking for the monster. Shaa peered out into the inky black of the bog ahead of them. It’s probably nonsense…Probably. But if it was their friend, could he risk ignoring the call. Time to do something stupid. It’s probably nothing but….we should probably take a quick trip just to check. Finishing off his fish, he calls out. Hey Astrid? Is that you? There was no response. He leaned in closer and listened hard. The feint sounds of laughter could be heard out in the distance

I raise my eyebrow at the question, smiling at the thought of meeting a friend of Astrid. It was a sense of gladness about it, a hint of something that can allow us to be connected. I turn to him and nod, "Better to check and be clear about things than leave it up to fate." I stand up and leap to the branches above. I look down, and point to myself, "I'll keep out of the water and look through the higher places. From what I know of Astrid, she's gonna be running right through the place, if she knows where she's going. Looking for lighting can help us find her!" I give a thumbs up and follow close behind Shaa.
I look down at my fish and mushrooms then back at Shaa. I hold my hand out and grab the fish mentally. As soon as it reached my hand I closed my hand to a fist, packing it away in case it's needed later. Who knows, if that was Astrid, she might be hungry. I quickly grab back onto the branches and focus on balance, walking calmly across as I looked around. Shaa had the noise making covered, so I'll be the eye in the sky.

As they head into the swamp, the voice of their friend seemed to be coming from several different directions. But no matter the direction, the message was always the same. Shaa….Keyke…come. If it really was Astrid he would have to call her out for being creepy in a swamp. But, if he was being honest with himself, the further out they went the less and less likely this wasn’t a trap.
Shaa looks over at Keyke who seems to be moving with little problem. How you doing over there short stack? I tell you something, if we find this thing, I’m not studying squat. He’s getting a fat fist to his stupid boney face for making me shlog through this swamp. Ugh, I haven’t even seen the sun for days. Shaaa…. And you! Shut it! He finds a high spot of moss and looks around. Ok no more nonsense, where are you?
Shaa throws his gnarled branch on the ground. From the earth, a one eyed golem emerges. Golem, see if you can find our friend. Shaa figured that a summoned creature couldn’t be fooled the same way regular folks were. And bonus, if he got attacked, no big. Now they just needed to find them.

I am used to echoing voices, but those are one thing, this was another. Little to no walls, only trees, and even water! These things don't really spell voice throwing skill! It was easy enough to deduce that this was gonna be a trap. At least something or someone who with magic that wasn't sky based. As far as I know, Astrid used sky as her main. I glance down at Shaa, suppressing a giggle at his mini rant of the area. I glance around as I answer his questions, "I'm doing good, but you are right, this is getting really annoying."
I pause, watching him climb, more like step up really, as he joins me to search from the air. I glance around as he talks to his cute little golem, whose name was Golem apparently. My smile remained at that little tidbit of information, a cute fact to contradict the powerful Shaa.
I glance around, looking carefully in the fog, as I feel a light shift in the atmosphere. As a watcher of storms, I would know the feeling before something different, like rain, was bound to happen. The humidity is off, the wind slightly changes, and overall just feels wrong. I call out to Shaa, "Hey... I think the bogaboo in near, and they're getting closer by it's own choice."
