The city of Darkveil is a new one for her. The Ash Lands sadly are not, however. Her first visit here wasn't pleasant as it consisted of taking a horse, riding to the nearby volcano, breaking in and almost painting the halls in red in order to rescue her at-the-time girlfriend. It was a stupid and suicidal plan (or lack thereof) but she lived, C'Leena suffering no lasting injuries, and Nephele only receiving a scar for her troubles.
That event is a difficult one to move past. It wasn't her first time taking a life, but it was the first premeditated series of killings. She was almost scared of herself due to a jarring lack of remorse during the event, but she's since moved past that and is working on avoiding fatal injuries as much as possible if she can help it. Despite being a small thing, it's made her feel better about it all.
Shoving those thoughts out of her mind, C'Leena is simply sat on the roof of a moderately sized building, simply looking over the town. Her mouth and nose is covered to avoid inhaling the volcanic ash and soot coating almost everything in a black, grimy film. As usual, Nephele is indeed with her, but retired to their tavern room nearby for some sleep perhaps 10 minutes ago. Normally, C'Leena would join her but she didn't really feel like going inside right now, nor was she particularly tired. From where she's sat, she can clearly watch the sun setting over the horizon, a part of her wishing that Nephele was there to watch it with her for the millionth time.
Sitting on a roofs edge, her legs dangling off the side is C'Leena. A 6' woman with a partially shaven head with chestnut brown hair and a pair of brilliant aquamarine eyes. They are like gemstones, aquamarine replacing her pupils, iris and sclera. In the fading light, they seem to faintly glow as well, highlighting the burn scarring surrounding her eyes. Those two things already spell an entire story. Clothing wise, she's in a basic shirt that Nephele had picked out for her some time ago, and her pair of jeans which have a number of rips in them at this point. It's still thankfully at the level where it can be seen as an aesthetic choice instead of concerning damage, but she's still not overly pleased about it.
C'Leena simply watches the sun set over the horizon, not expecting much to happen tonight. Hell, she's actually looking forward to watching the stars for a while. She idly fiddles with the ring on her finger as the sun continues to dip lower and lower, a passive smile on her face as her mind runs through futures with the blue nymph she calls her fiancé.

Darkveil is not an unfamiliar place to Cirice. Her godfather and some of her adoptive siblings live here. She’d come to town with the intention of a surprise visit but had found the orphanage empty and half-rebuilt. Alone and bored she drove her demonic spectral reindeer towards the Rookery to see if she could possibly visit her friend Zarius if he’s about. The large, double-decker wagon with beautiful stained-glass windows and lanterns hanging from the eaves and pulled by a glowing mostly-skeletal creature was quite the spectacle, even in Darkveil. The city may be full of secret societies and criminals but it wasn’t usually home to many truly wild things. At least not so blatantly. Not many people wanted to speak to someone so obvious and flagrant and so her trip through the streets was easy and clear. She sees a sweets shop and pulls Hitia aside to park, heading inside. Ordering some treats and making small talk with the owner she heads back to the wagon and continues along her way. There’s something interesting going on she’d learned from the shopkeeper, an art show of sorts. Maybe she’ll go and check it out, her parents love art and a new piece she got on her travels would be lovely. As the sun sets, she looks up at the ash-laden sky and sees a woman on a rooftop, her legs dangling leisurely as she watches the sunset. Cirice can’t help but be drawn to her strange arms and the way the light plays about them. Interesting gloves, Cirice thought to herself, I wonder where she bought them… Why not ask? In a moment she’s disappeared from the seat at the front of her wagon and she’s appeared next to the interesting woman 1. “Hello, sorry if this is rude but I caught a glimpse of your gloves and they interested me so I wanted to ask you about them.” She says with a smile, as if her appearing out of nowhere and asking questions is the most natural and normal thing in the world.

The sunset is indeed very pretty, but her attention is arrested by a rather fancy wagon being pulled along by an.. undead horse. That entire thing is a bit creepy and two things in her mind are especially not fond of it. First is the doctor in her. Playing with death is a frankly repulsive thing to do, and another thing she can't exactly put her finger on. Nevertheless, her attention isn't on the horse for long as a woman hops out and enters a nearby building.
C'Leena shrugs and continues watching the sky, not expecting anything to come from that little event. She is proven wrong, however, when that same woman simply appears next to her, asking about.. Gloves? Now, C’Leena can recognize Blink when she sees it - hell, it’s probably her most used spell outside of Space Pocket (Although it’s hard to consider that a spell).
Nevertheless, the woman's sudden appearance does jolt C’Leena slightly as her attention is arrested by her. It takes a second to process the question and when she does, she responds with confusion. C’Leena looks down at her hands only to realize that the illusory skin covering them isn’t even active. She’s not even wearing gloves.
“Firstly, Hello, how’re you doing? Second, they’re not gloves, sadly. These are prosthetics.” She extends a hand toward the mystery woman, inviting her for a handshake. “Dr. C’Leena Thomas. I will be happy to talk with you about them if you’re still curious.”
What little that can be seen of the prosthetics shows what would look like a normal hand if it had skin covering it. However, the entire hand itself is made with many small plates that shift and move to provide as much flexibility as humanly possible - which it’s doing very well. Along the edges of the plates are inscriptions softly glowing with aquamarine light. One thing is for certain: These are incredibly magical in every sense of the word.
C’Leena hasn’t spent an exorbitant amount of time meditating recently, so her sense of touch is non-existent but that’s alright. She just needs to exercise a little more care with gripping objects - or peoples hands.
There is something.. Strangely familiar about the woman. She knows for certain that they haven’t met but something is just bugging her. Unable to put a pin on what it is, she hopes that introductions can help solve that mystery.
On a wildly off topic note, the sudden thought that C’Leena needs to update Cyran on her relationship with Nephele rushes into her mind, and is only indicated by C’Leena raising her eyebrows a touch. Now how the hell would I get in contact? He hits me as the guy who ‘will contact you, not the other way around’ despite the fatherly vibe he has going. Hm.

“Prosthetics?” Cirice asks, tilting her head thoughtfully. “Those look a lot nicer and more comfortable than the peg legs and hooks the sailors back home use!”
She recognizes the gesture and grips C’Leena’s hand gently, as if she’s afraid she’ll break it. “I’m Cirice, Cirice Lunestre. Oh yeah I’m a lady too. I’m always curious. Nice to meet you! C’Leena… I feel like that’s familiar… We certainly haven’t met before, I’d remember someone like you. Are you perhaps a member of the Mage’s Guild? I haven’t met everyone in the Guild but I did read a roster once.”
Cirice tends to speak faster when she’s excited and curious and her words come out at an alarmingly fast rate.
“Oh if you’re a doctor then maybe Kvasir mentioned you! He’s a doctor and a good friend of mine! How do your arms work? Did you make them? They’re clearly magic, what all enchantments are on them? How would you make magic arms without arms? Did you make them when you still had arms? What happened to your arms?”
Her rapid-fire questions are accompanied by her curious close-up look of the hand she’s holding. She marvels at the runes and the little shifting plates that moves like muscles as the arm moves.
“Oooh that’s so cool! I’ve never seen anything like this!” She exclaims in delight.

C'Leena chuckles as Cirice takes her hand delicately, treating it as if it were glass. On her hand that Cirice is inspecting is her engagement ring - a silver band with three obsidian stones embedded in the ring, with the larger piece in the center with two smaller ones to either side.
"Definitely more comfortable than pegs. Good to meet you, Cirice." The thought of using her title runs through her mind, but frankly she doesn't really care enough. Her last encounter with nobility went.. very poorly. At least she can now say that she ripped a noble a new asshole.
Once Cirice began hitting her with rapid fire questions, it didn't take too long for C'Leena to become slightly overwhelmed with trying to follow along. Utilizing a break that Cirice took to breathe, C'Leena began answering her questions. "No, not with the Mages Guild. Not even really familiar with them. I do magic, sure, but I'm not in a guild about it. As for the familiarity.. Only person who would feasibly talk about me would be Cyran. He mentioned a Goddaughter - that wouldn't be you, would it?" She asks, only slightly put off by how deeply Cirice is inspecting her arm. If this were to happen like, nearly a year ago C'Leena probably would've snatched her hand back and completely shut out.
"I don't know a Kvasir, but maybe I should hunt for him," She says, toying with the idea. "Explaining how they work would take.. a long time. Essentially, the limbs are connected to me via what I've dubbed 'Magic Bullshit'. I've only made upgrades to these ones, simply trying to work on a sense of touch and to improve the illusory skin." She begins answering, taking advantage of yet another breath.
"Yes, they are incredibly magic. I'm still trying to learn about them, and I keep finding magical arrays that I didn't even know existed." Then the questions began asking about the loss of arms, and a beat of hesitancy stops C'Leena in her tracks. Now this is a subject that she's sensitive about, but she's had five years to get over this. It's about time she stopped shutting down every time the subject is broached.
"I uh, didn't attach these myself. I had to have other people attach them for me. And I.. Lost them in a fire. Buncha-stuff happened that made my arms and legs no good, so they had to get lobbed off and replaced." Her hesitancy on the subject is clear, but she doesn't hold any malice or bitterness toward Cirice for asking. Curiosity is C'Leena's bane as well, so she understands why Cirice is spitballing so many questions at once.
"It really is incredible work," She says, changing the subject to Cirice's delightedness. "I do hope to make my own like this one day. It used to be my job to make prosthetics but.. Life got in the way." She shrugs, opting to leave out most of her story. She looks at Cirice with a smile, waiting for whatever she has to say next.

“Hey yeah that is me!” Cirice says with a joyful laugh, “Cyran must have mentioned you in a letter. His letters are wonderful and full of stories from his adventures. I tend to leave out some of the worse stuff, otherwise Dad gets overprotective.”
“You should totally meet Kvasir, he has an office in Zeinav called the Desert Rose, he’s amazing! Best doctor in Charon, at least I think so.” She giggles “‘Magic Bullshit?’ What a highly technical explination. So its a mix of animation spells and illusion, that’s incredible! The Guild would love this, you should join! THey can be stuffy but there are a lot of cool people too. If you’re trying to uncover secrets of magitech then they’re your best bet. I’m not very technical myself, I’m more magical practice than theory.”
C’Leena’s hesitance to speak about what happened isn’t lost on Cirice and she slows down, sobering up a little. “A fire? That… sounds really awful, I’m sorry. Why… Why not use magic and regrow them? Not that your arms aren’t super cool and stylish, but like one spell and you could have the old flesh ones back. Prosthetics are cool, but magic is cooler. OH are you engaged?”
She looks at the ring on C’Leena’s hand with more scrutiny, realizing she may have overstepped and made the woman uncomfortable. “Sorry…. I tend to ask a lot of questions when I’m excited. That isn’t the best way to make new friends. But if you know Cyran we’re practically friends already! Have you been to the Rookery? I was going to visit another friend, Zarius, and see if he wanted to go see an art show with me, would you like to join? I’d love to hear everything about you!”

The level of excitement emanating from Cirice was both mildly contagious and wildly entertaining, and C'Leena couldn't help but chuckle with her. "Cyran is a very sweet man. He spoke highly of you, although certain.. circumstances prevented him from speaking more about you. It's good to finally meet you, though!" She opts to leave out the fact that Cyran had to help her through a PTSD episode. That might be oversharing a bit.
"Desert Rose, huh? Does he specialize in anything? Disease, Emergency Care?" C'Leena's interest has successfully been piqued. Getting to know how magic interacts with the body would most likely come from him. Plus, her fiancé is a Fey - learning more about fey anatomy and whatnot would most likely also come from him. "I might have to go pay him a visit at some point."
As the subject switches to her arms and the magic behind them, C'Leena shifts her body to face Cirice, crossing her legs. There is a light metallic tapping as she shifts her legs, muffled slightly by the denim. "Yeah, Enchantment, Illusion and I do believe some sense of Abjuration. Theres a lot going on that I'm still figuring out but it gives me something to do when my ADHD permits." She chuckles lightly. "I've seen the guilds and whatnot, and I've thought about joining but I don't really have the time right now. Don't really have a set home yet. Maybe after me and Nephele settle."
Speaking of the fire unsurprisingly discomforts her, but she steels herself and smiles at Cirice's concern. "Dal'n, if I could do that, I would have the moment I figured out that was an option. But," C'Leena rolls up her short sleeve, revealing her scarred shoulder. Her eyes flash before the sigaldry on the arm fades to nothing, and she disconnects the prosthetic. On her shoulder is even more metal and sigaldry seemingly embedded into the shoulder. "Can't exactly remove this without intensive surgery that I highly doubt is possible here. I do miss my actual arms, but Cyran taught me his Dreamwalker spell, and that lets me be who I was prior to all this. That is good enough for me.
"Plus, it lets me show off where I came from. Win-Win!" C'Leena reattaches the arm with less of a click and more of a hiss. Plates subtly move along the length of her arm, almost 'recalibrating' before the sigaldry comes back to life. "But yes, magic is in fact cool as hell."
The sudden switch from her prosthetics to her ring is slightly jarring, but after a moment, her smile becomes more genuine - a visible swell of pride and glee with the subject change. C'Leena lets Cirice apologize and rant for a second, deciding to work backwards with her questions. "As long as it takes no more than.. three or so hours, I'd be down to go. My fiancé is a Nymph and doesn't sleep for very long, so I am technically on a time limit but yeah, I'm keen. As for the Rookery, that's.. The fancy place down that way, right? Haven't been there but I've seen it. Looks pretty neat." She points toward the general direction of the Rookery, remembering that her and Nephele passed it earlier in the day.
"And yes, I am engaged. Very happily with - like I said before - a Fey named Nephele. She's.. The sweetest thing ever. Kind to a fault, a Loverbug in all but name and absolutely stunning. Oh my god her eyes - she has these eyes that are like the stars at night. Constellations and entire galaxies and when she meditates, these beautiful nebulas illuminate the room in a literal sense. I have woken up numerous times to see reds, greens and blues dancing across the walls when she was meditating."
She forgets that she shouldn't rant like this, but every word out of her mouth is filled with such love and passion that it's unsurprising that she has. "Her and I have been together for.. less than a year. Long story that I will hold off on for now." C'Leena begins to idly fiddle with the ring, twisting it on her finger as she speaks. "Sorry for the rant, I haven't had my meds in.. fucken hell like, eight, nine months now? I miss not having a constant fog in my head when I try to think. Is there Adderall in Charon? No I don't think so. Damn, maybe I can smuggle some if I find a way to go back? No, they may get magicked up.." She frowns as she falls into yet another one of the massive holes in her brain. She catches herself, shakes her head and looks to Cirice apologetically. "Ehh, whoops."

“Cyran is the best!” Cirice agrees, not prying further into the story there, they probably fought a monster or something together. “The pleasure is mine, truly! I think Kvasir specializes in medicines and alchemy, that sort of thing. The Desert Rose is full of all kinds of crazy plants. You have to see it!”
As C’Leena just casually takes her arm off with a flash of unfamiliar runes Cirice’s eyes widen. Prosthetics were not unfamiliar to her necessarily, but something this intricate and enchanted is surely one of a kind. She listens raptly, looking closely at the sigils and barely registering the unfamiliar acronym. “You totally should! Oh if you’re looking for a place to live you should check out the Crescent Isles, they’re the best place in all Charon! I’m sure you guys could get a really nice place there.”
The shift in C’Leena’s demeanor is slight but enough that Cirice, close as she is to her notices. “Well I guess that’s true, I’m not sure what would happen with that if I tried to regrow your arms… it could get incorporated into the new arm or like fall out or any kind of thing… I’m glad Cyran was able to help at least!” she grins at her new friend. “I promise I’ll get you back to your lady love before she even notices you’re gone! Yeah thats the place, you should check it out. Tell Zarius I sent you!”
Hopping down from the roof and lightly gliding to the ground in a stream of lavender sparkles she giggles at C’Leena’s gushing2. “She sounds absolutely incredible! When we get back introduce me, please, I want to see her eyes! I feel that, myself and my love haven’t been together for too long, but I could gush about him forever too. Thats a long story too.”
“If you needs medicine Kvasir can probably help,” she ponders aloud, looking back up at C’Leena on the roof, “dunno what “add-her-all” is but I’m sure Kvasir will be able to make some for you! Don’t apologize! Love is like that! You can tell me the whole story and gush later. Let’s have some fun!”
She waits for C’Leena to come down and takes her shiny metal arm in her own as they make their way toward the gallery. Cirice points out anything and everything of interest during their walk, telling C’Leena probably too much frivolous detail about her time in the city. Its a pleasant walk and when they arrive at the art gallery the queue to enter is only a few people long. In no time they’re inside and staring at fine art. 1 Fairy dust
