Shaa leaned over and grabbed a random mug from the table. Draining it in front of its unfortunate and now thirsty owner, he slams the mug down hard and wipes the froth from his snout. Sounds like a plan to me. Thanks for the drink friends, we’ll be on our way. Looking back to give the now antsy group a quick meaningful sneer, Shaa walks towards the exit, his destination now in mind. Between Shaa’s sneer and Izzy’s now intimidating visage, the group, though charged, did not make a move to follow them directly. He didn’t believe for one second it would stay that way however. He turns quickly to Izzy. Ok, there’s the path up to the village. You sure you want to come up with me? Last chance to bail but… it would be nice to have you along. He says pointing to a steep path up the mountain. The only other path other than the one he took there,so it had to be by process of elimination. If you are coming, you need to get up ahead of me a bit. I got an idea on a parting gift for our buddies inside.
Shaa runs over to the path at a narrow point motions for Izzy to head up the path ahead of him. If she goes, his plan is to rumble the cliff wall and bring some rocks down to block it. Did he have to do it? No. But these guys had pissed him off and if they thought he was going to make it easy for them to cash in on their work, they would be sadly mistaken. Messing with them would be fun and all but there was something that still bothered him. Why were those hell hounds there. And who else might be waiting for them as the ascended the lonely mountains. In the distance, Shaa could make out the sound of a loud howl.

As she and Shaa depart the table, Izzy waggles her fingers sensuously at the group, a gesture that was all the more disconcerting given her terrible visage. She maintains the swagger and the facade until they're out of immediate eye-sight, and pulls off the mask so she can look at Shaa once again, bouncing on the balls of her feet with excitement-- a gesture that abruptly stops as she looks up at Shaa with a moment of confusion. He... hadn't thought she would come with him?
She didn't take it personally, or as an insult; moreso, she understood it as, likely, all the times Shaa had experienced disappointment at the hands of the unreliable. Though their interactions had been limited, Izzy made a living off of reading people-- The big minotaur seemed like the sort who found himself having to do what needed to be done while others found it convenient to look the other way, or simply be elsewhere. Shaa didn't shirk, or hide. He faced things head on. It was telling-- in a good way, but also in a sad way-- that he didn't hold others to that same standard.
Izzy gives Shaa a playful look, arching her brow in a manner that clearly said boi, you kiddin'? "COURSE I'm sure! comin', you couldn't keep me away if you wanted to. Well, maybe you could throw me, but I'm a bit of a boomerang, sugar. I'd just find my way back." The metaphor might have gotten away from her, but that doesn't stop her from winking up at him. "No way I'm missing out on this. Besides, I told you, I got your back."
Her brows arch higher with interest at the promise of a 'gift' for their 'friends' back in the 'tavern'. Snickering with delight, she nods, reaching up to pat the big man on the shoulder. "You got it, Big Guy. Don't keep me waaaitinnn." She throws another wink over her shoulder, and quickly slips up the path ahead, taking to the rocks with a careful grace as she ascended upwards a little ways to get ahead, per his request, and scope out what lay ahead.

Shaa shouldn’t have been surprised at Izzy’s reaction but, truth be told, he was relieved she had gone all in on the impending Shenanigans. Talking smack to idiots in a dingy bar was one thing but, what was coming next was a whole other bowl of noodles. There were most definitely creatures up ahead. Pssst no problem. But Shaa was still not convinced that someone else wasn’t behind them being there and that was what was sticking in his craw. He knew Izzy could take care of herself but there was a whole lotta unknown up that janky path to the mountains. And, on top of that, they had just spit in the face of a buncha mercs who would be coming up behind them. Tactically, it was not a great place to be in and if Izzy got hurt or worse…
Maybe this was Vikram’s fault. The death of his friend and Athena still being missing was having a more profound impact on him than perhaps he had given credence to. It felt like Shaa’s friends were slipping through his big hands like sand. The tighter he tried to hold on, the more they slipped away. But he needed to get those kinds of negative thoughts out of his head. All they did was serve as a distraction and situations like this called for decisive action, not second guessing. He could already hear Athena’s stern voice telling him to pull his horned head out of his butt and get it into the game.
Okay okay! Shaa held his hands up in mock surrender, snorting a bit. I know you have my back. It’s just…. Never mind. Let’s go show these idiots what’s what. Shaa follows Izzy up the path a bit until they find a nice narrow spot. When he is sure she is clear, he places his hand on the mountain side and starts a series of tremors until it causes a landslide, sealing the path behind them. Well that will be fun for them to deal with. But…..just in case. Apparently Shaa was a little bit more annoyed with these guys than he let on. He uses his Terramancy to find a large rock in the rock slide. Forcing some energy into it, the boulder cones to life as a golem. Ok Rocky. You guard the path. If anyone tries to climb over, just squish em. The rock monster bows it’s head in acknowledgment and turns to the rockslide to wait for intruders.
He jogs a bit further up to catch up with Izzy. Well that should keep them busy. Hehe. Let’s head on up to the village.

'Just' what, Izzy wondered to herself, pondering the unspoken end of that sentence. It was strange to be... considered. 'Cared for' might be a shade too far, Izzy knows even less what to do with that. As she makes her way up the rock path, nimble and gazelle like, she finds her mind drifting to that; there was Fei, but she was her elder sister. Momo and her got on great, but Izzy didn't think they'd go to bat for her if it didn't benefit them. Quicksilver? She liked them, and they seemed to tolerate her antics, but she didn't think they would especially care about her either way. The Dame probably thought she'd be more useful dead, and he wasn't wrong. Now, Fish might, but Izzy herself had taught them not to stick their necks out too far for anyone if they could help it; survival, first and foremost, was what mattered.
If Shaa was openly worried on her behalf... that would be a first for the Fellblood.
Behind her, the ground rumbles, and for a moment Izzy worries about the moutains themselves, and the volcano that was not too far down the range-- but, no. There was no billowing smoke, no flashes of orange from cracks in the earth. That was just Shaa doin' his thing.
When he reaches where she was waiting, leaning ever so casually against a rock, Izzy flashes Shaa a grin, greeting him with light applause. "Very niiiice~. Should buy us a good but of time. Lead on, O' Shaa the Intrepid."

Shaa the intrepid. He kind of liked that. Shaa Rhunn in the Centaur language meant “Wanderer of the unending path” It was a moniker given to him by his adoptive family and one that had held true for his whole life. But there was something about being intrepid that appealed to him for some reason. It was definitely better to his more common name “ Aggg a Minotaur!” which was pretty short sighted and reductive. He wondered to himself if he could get that engraved and put on a sign in his house. He had a very sparsely used craft room, might as well do something with it.
Shaa the intrepid? I like it! You must be…. Izzy the ebullient! I think that fits about right. The two kept laughing as they traveled together up the road making up increasing goofier nick names for each other and their mutual acquaintances. Oh that reminds me, thanks for recommending Fish to me for that job. In the end, he was pretty helpful but you should have mentioned that he was a mute. And had the personality of a wet sponge. For some reason, during the whole mission, I kept getting the feeling like he was going back and forth on wanting to stab me. Fish..the quietly stabby. He laughed a bit but, deep down, he really didn’t trust the tiny bird man.
As they continued up the path, the air was getting increasingly more acrid and smokey. Shaa could start to feel his eyes itch a bit from the ash. Man, this place makes me miss Kings Valley. I know several Minotaur who live up here, on purpose. I used to think they were just jerks but now I think they were just constantly being annoyed. I’m a former Terramancer, a master of the elements and even I think this place is dirty. Like the bottom of my hooves are the cleanest part, dirty. Blurg.
Then, in the distance, Shaa sees some houses and a handful of people milling about.

"Ebullient!" Izzy throws her head back with a racous cackle. "Now that's a compliment, Big Guy, I'll take that one to the bank, thank ya very much."
When the conversation turns to Fish, Izzy noticably brightens. "Oh, good! I'm glad they got out and about with you." Sha''s opining on Fish's personality and behaviours though, only makes her grin wider. "Whaaat, you don't know sign?" She sounds entirely facetious as she rolls through her sentence out loud and in sign, hands moving smoothly. "If that was the feeling you got, you were probably right. They've got me once or twice. I DID deserve it, though, to be fair." she snickers, shaking her head. "They're a good kid. I'm still tryna learn 'em about how things work, they're only like. Nine years old." she shrugs, as if this was common knowledge.
She snickers as Shaa regards their surroundings, amused by the allegory he crafted. "I dunno, I find it kinda charming! But maybe that's because I'm a walking ashtray m'self." Her brow lifts; she had seen some of Shaa's Terramancy first hand back in the fighting pit while they were traipsing about Charon, along with some of his other impressive abilities, some of which she had even had cause to use herself, thanks to the connection of their rings. "What is it you do now, though, if not the whole Terramancy thing?"
She slows to a walk, pausing her words as they find... people up here, with houses. A weird spot for houses, a homestead, this deep in the criminal territory of the mountains. She tilts her head towards Shaa, speaking out of the corner of her mouth. "Weren't they sayin' this place was cursed and abandoned?"

What is it I do? It was a complicated question. I guess that you could say that I broadened my horizons. I’m not sure if you heard, it’s like the worlds worst kept secret, but … Shaa thought over the events of the last year and their ramifications. Was he really the one to tell her if she didn’t know? He would want to know. It was about 6 months or so. I had gotten into some trouble (shocker) with some cultists. Apparently they were working on getting some weird device to take over the world. Long story short, the device wasn’t a device to take over the world so much as a doorway…and… well long story short. All the gods are dead except the space god who I imagine is pretty pissed at…well everyone.
When I found out Ginma was dead, I got lost a bit. My Terramancy worked but it wasn’t Ginma doing it. It was just me. Then I wondered, “ What else can I do?” So… I started reaching out. To friends, mentors, fellow guild members. Terramancy will always be a part of me, my history. But I see the whole world now. The air, the water, the earth, …all of it. I’m now a part of a group known as elementalists. It’s been….a very good experience for me. Between that, guild stuff and occasional dudes that need a beating, I keep pretty busy. How about you? What are you doing when you aren’t shenaniganising with me? He chuckles deeply.
As they approached the town, Shaa looked around curiously. Cursed? Nahhh. It’s just the supposed farm that’s supposed to be cursed or hexed or whatever. The town ….well the town I think is just full of weirdos. First hint of a banjo or a person with less than 4 teeth and we out of here, if you know what I mean. Shaa walked over to one of the people milling about. The man, older with a bit of a limp, looks at the pair skeptically.
What are you two doing here? Your not from here. He walks over and gets uncomfortably close to Shaa. Ya merchants or something? Y’all are strange looking. Selling weird things? I’m not interested in those weird things. You need to talk to Gary about that. Bring a towel though. They definitely did not need to talk to Gary. No no, we aren’t merchants. We’re here about the hell hounds. The man looked at them cock eyed? You want to go to the farm? Now I know y’all are weird. Sure, I hate those things like anyone but I ain’t about to go up and get chewed by them. Shaa shook his head a bit. Can you just tell us how to get to the farm? Could do, it’s down that way. The man points at a dusty road further into town. Head that way, can’t miss it. That, and in about an hour, those monsters will start up again. Thanks I think. Don’t say I didn’t warn you!

Izzy listens intently, with a very uncharacteristically stern expression on her face as Shaa details what he had indeed been up to. The gods being dead-- well, she had heard the rumours, and one way or another, didn't care a whiff for them to begin with. But it was a bit different, when you were hearing it from the mouth of someone you trusted. Especially when that someone was telling you that not all of them were dead. Ziev, apparently, was still kicking, somewhere.
For some reason, that unsettled her more than the idea of them all being well and truly dead.
But there are more important pieces to the story, namely, what Shaa had started doing with himself when he realized the gods were dead. That had to have been a bit of a knock... the Capitol was denying it all wholesale, which meant the institutions and temples of the gods were still up and thriving, but Shaa knew better. And he truly made something of himself with it.
Then he turns the question back on her and the smile flashes back into place, quick as a crack of her whip. "Sounds like you've been keeping pretty busy for sure! Oh, lil ol' me? Training up my new apprentice, cracking cases, getting into all sorts of shenanigans with folks these days. You remember that guy you shook the house down of? During Hearth's Day? Well he and I are buddies now! We investigated the Scorched Ones in Zeinav, got some reaaaaal good intel off of that."
To say the least.
Izzy drifts into quiet as they approach the people milling about down, letting Shaa and all his charisma handle the situation. The people here seemed espondent about thier situation, powerless to do anything about the hell hounds and accepting them simply as a part of life. Her brow furrows slightly as she thinks for a few seconds.
Before she and Shaa start back down the road again, she shifts her gait, moving up. "Hey, mack, if you get a group callin 'emselves the Iron Reavers up here, I would bounce, they're bad news. If they ask you for directions, you mind giving them a goose chase to go on instead maybe?"

The Iron Reavrs again eh? He scoffs and spits on the ground. We know those corpse scavengers fine. They come back up here, we know the score.
Shaa and Izzy head up the indicated road towards the supposedly haunted farm. It didn’t take long and the people in town grew scarcer until finally it was just the two on the dusty way. Sorry, where were we? Oh yeah, you said you got an apprentice? That’s pretty cool. I help people all the time but it’s more like training than anything so formal. To be honest, it’s probably better for their health to keep time with me pretty limited. It’s not like the guild has hazard pay or something. Shaa picks some dirt out from under his fingernails as they walk. Agh staying clean here is like bailing your ship out with a thimble. Have you noticed yet? There are no bugs here. I would have expected flies at least or something. No bugs means nothing that eats bugs like lizards and birds. It’s just..nothing. Crappy place for a farm if you ask me.
Soon enough the can see a large farm in the distance. The farm has the typical items. A barn, some empty stables. The centerpiece however was the large farmhouse in the back. As they get closer, Shaa is surprised at the farm house’s condition. True to the story, the house is charred and burned from the roof to the foundations. The house itself was still standing there, bruised but unbroken. It would be really risky, but Shaa thought they could actually get inside.
So here we are. Fiery dump ahoy. Shaa looks around and still sees no sign of life. If that town’s person was correct, the howling should start at any time now. Hmmm still seems pretty quiet to me. Out of nowhere, the house again bursts into a massive pillar of flame. As the house burns, loud howls and screams from animals seem to be pouring out of every door and window. Shaa covers his ears from all the racket and mouths the words “ I think we found it”

Izzy tosses the local a bright grin upon seeing his vitriol for the Iron Reavers. "My man. Alright, take it easy and stay out of trouble." she jogs the short distance to catch back up to Shaa, more than interested in picking up their conversation where they had left off.
"Yep! Azalea, also known by her alias (which I gave her), Sparks. Picked her up out of some podunk town that wasn't treating her right, so she's riiight at home back in Zeinav." Izzy shifts her head to look up again at Shaa. While she catches the sincerity behind his words, the truth of them that he feels, Izzy nonetheless snorts. "I mean, maybe, but I get the feeling that the folks who hang out with you on the regular are preeeetty well aware of the risks of getting caught up in some 'shaananigans'." Izzy snickers, gently elbowing the big minotaur in the side. "They gotta learn somehow; better that its from someone who actually gives a shit about their wellbeing than an enemy that doesn't. Besiiiides, what's a little moderate to serious injury between friends, am I right?" Her head tilts as she eyes his hand, the process of picking dirt out from under his nails. Fastidious of him; she knew Shaa didn't mind getting his hands dirty, but she could imagine how much of a pain it would be to keep all of his fur clean. "You're telling me, you see how white I am?" she gestures to her face, the unsettling white of bleached bone. "I spill ink on my hand and that's there for like two years, every time I go outside I get a little extra contour and shadow from the dirt in the air."[/color]
She pauses to look around, intrigued by Shaa's observation. "I hadn't noticed, but yeah, you're right. No bugs." she ponders at the thought, the wheels starting to turn in her head, before she flashes Shaa an impressed little smile. "Good eye. You might make a fine detective yourself, Big Guy."
Once they arrive at the house proper, overlooking the scene from their relatively hidden position, Izzy watches for any signs of life and movement... And then, all hell breaks loose.
Izzy turns to Shaa, her own smoldering-coals for eyes wide.
That.
Was a lot of problems shaped like dogs.
She grimaces, looking back at the pack of hell hounds and back to Shaa, also mouthing "I got a little magic that might be able to help, but there's a lot of 'em. Thoughts?"

Izzy had gotten to the heart of the problem even though it probably wasn’t what she had intended. She was right. There were a LOT of hell hounds. Much more than he had expected. But the issue was not that there were too many to handle. Shaa could kick the fire puppies to the curb in 12 different ways without breaking a sweat. The issue was that hell hounds were summoned creatures. You could find the odd one or two hanging around but it was fairly rare. But an entire house full of them that appeared AND disappeared at regular intervals? There was just no way. It was about as likely as stumbling into a pack of Vorrapede playing cards. It just didn’t happen. Someone or something was summoning them and they really really didn’t want to be disturbed. They needed to get a look inside that house.
Shaa cracks his knuckles and starts walking towards the house. Two of the closer Hell Hounds see him coming and start to charge. Shaa keeps walking watching the two as they approach. Too more hounds stand guard on the porch of the house. Closer and closer they come as the Minotaur prepares himself for what’s coming next. As the first one leaps for his face, Shaa reaches out and touches the beast. The touch is enough to sap all of the fire abilities out of him. The dog, with no flames to keep its shape, tuns into a pile of ash on the ground. The second hound, confused at what just happened, lunged only to meet the same fate. If he was being honest with himself, he had actually thought they would just turn into regular dogs when he stole their flame but apparently they couldn’t stay corporial without it.
Shaa looked at Izzy and tapped his ring finger, suggesting the next course of action. They were getting in that house.
Endothermic Reaction While this ability is toggled on, anything you physically touch that is another living being or recently affected by heat from any source has the heat within it drained and transferred into yourself giving you stacks of Conflagration that you can either add to existing stacks of Conflagration for use with Molten Core or immediately apply to a fire based spell or ability if you do not have molten core active. This ability can only absorb five stacks before it needs to go on cooldown for two posts.

"Oop," Shaa begins to approach the house, walking at a steady amble as Izzy looks on with brows raised. We goin? Were goin. Alright. Izzy follows behind closely, wondering exactly what the plan was-- but it quickly becomes clear when two slavering hell hounds charge him, and he reduced them to ash, smothering their flames effectively and thoroughly. Izzy claps softly and politely; a good showing, old chap.
Izzy hums thoughtfully, nodding as Shaa taps his ring finger, but wondering what to do about it, precisely. She had used the abilities of the big minotaur before, much to her absolute delight, but isn't quite certain what she should be utilizing in this situation. Whatever it was Shaa had done to the Hell Hound, grabbing and sapping it of energy-- she doesn't think she can do that specifically.
But if what they need to do is smother the flames, well, she knows Shaa has a few tricks up his proverbiall sleeve that might lend to their situation. Flashing him a rakish smile, she gives him an affirmative nod, brushing the large ring around one of her gnarled horns to activate the abilities of Shaa Rhunn. Opposite of fire, opposite of fire... Shaa had a lot of earth based abilities at his beck and call, but what about...
Ah!
Finding the magic within their connection, Izzy draws on it, turning her hands over as she casts the spell [1]. Rain begins to fall from the already clouded sky, pure and pristine and finer than anyone had seen in many, many years, she assumed. The Hell Hounds were less than thrilled, yipping and snappin as the rain struck their flaming bodies, sizzling steam hissing up where it landed, dousing some of the flames.
Izzy turns to Shaa with a light shrug, her smile crooked. Good?

Shaa watched as the rain came down and started to laugh. I was more thinking we could both become full on fire elementals but this place certainly could use the rain. You win. Shaa dons his spirit shroud, the power flowing from his deceased parents pour into him further pushing the rain until the drizzle becomes more of a downpour. The hell hounds are definitely not happy about the shift and retreat inside. He takes a moment to watch as puddles start to form on the parched earth and tiny streams of water make their way into long dried gullies. Shaa can see tiny droplets form on his eyelashes as he blinks them away. As the water starts soaking into his fur, he motions Izzy to follow him inside.
As he walks up to the porch, he gets a closer look at the front door of the house. The door is scorched and the front handle seems to be missing. Shaa places a large hand on the door, giving it a light push. The door swings inward into the house with a loud creaking noise coming from the old hinges. He Stan’s at the doorway looking inward into the darkness, no sign of a hell hound anywhere.
As he steps inside the house, his eyes grow accustomed to the darkness and he gets his first real look at everything inside. To his surprise, everything looks…normal. The house, although not fancy, is nicely adorned with furniture, tables, books and all of the other normal trappings of a farm house out on the sticks. No sign of anything bird , nothing unnatural, just a regular house.
Shaa walks over to one of the tables and runs a finger across the top of it. Looking at his finger, it has come off cleanly, no dust. Looking around the room, he half expected someone to come in and offer him a drink. Izzy! Look at this. You are the detective, what do you think?

"If I could become a fire elemental, I totally would big guy," Izzy grins, her snicker developing into a full-blown cackle as Shaa does something to the rain and makes it a deluge of water. She spins under the torrential downpour, red curly hair and clothes flattening against her body as they proceed towards the house proper.
The exterior looks battered and beaten up; Izzy draws her blade as they approach, carefully holding it at her side to cover Shaa's flank as they ascend up the rickety steps, through the door as Shaa gingerly pushes it open.
Whatever she had expected to find, it wasn't this.
Confusion passes over her features as they step inward. It was pleasantly lit, the table set and ready for a fine dinner. She reaches over to tap the surface of the table, nodding with Shaa as he shows her that there was no accumulated dust in this place, which was, by all intents and purposes, supposed to be abandoned. "...we have two potential options," she says slowly, looking around with a slight furrow to her brow. "Either whomever is living here is still very much alive and is complicit-- or this is some sort of illusion." She clicks her tongue and turns to Shaa, uncharacteristically serious as she drips rainwater on the floor. "In either case that would mean there's someone powerful here. Or more than one." It was also probably a trap.

Shaa rolls his eyes a bit. I swear, half of the homes I go in are traps. I tell you this is why I live underground or sleep outside. Buncha nonsense.
He considered Izzy’s analysis and had to agree with it. Was this house really destroyed and this was all an illusion or was the house always here and it was never burned down to begin with? What did they know for sure. The hell hounds were definitely real. He could feel their heat and presence as he turned them into ash. That was no illusion. They could have been summoned to keep people from getting to close to discover the illusion. That seemed to make the most sense. But if that were the case, where were the illusionists? Who summoned them? Not just once but repeatedly and regularly for who knows how long. They were missing some players to this game.
Shaa walked over to the table and picked up a plate. Turning it around in his hand, it had fancy gold decorative inlays around the edge. It was obviously designed for a fancy dinner. Please be careful, those plates were my grandmothers. Shaa turned to the entryway to find a woman in a blue cotton dress looking at him warmly. Her hair was long and dirty blonde, with a long yellow ribbon tying it up in the back. She was carrying a small basket that was covered with a red hand towel. Please, take a seat, we’ve been expecting you. Shaa looks over at Izzy and raises an eyebrow. Come now, while the rolls are still warm. There is much to discuss.
