Post by Baron V. Gubb on Apr 15, 2023 19:35:06 GMT -5
Gubb hated visiting the southern part of Charon, despite being born and raised there, they absolutely despised the region, and loathed every time they needed to visit. If things could be managed elsewhere, then the little frog creature would have chosen that option first, but they were here for a very specific reason, and unfortunately that reason lay buried beneath the flooded ruins of the Marsh Flats. The white, two foot Ribbinynh rarely left their estate up north, and when they did, it normally was for something very important. So whatever brought Gubb to the swamp was extremely important.
They had hired a ship, having been transported to the local village, only now to be treading through the muck and murk, looking for a lost grave yard. They had opted to go with a different ensemble this trip, not wanting to get grime on their expensive clothes, but you know the Baron never left the mansion without looking presentable. Gubb had a tan safari vest over top a green shirt, with a tan colored safari hat on their head. A black veil hung over the top, to keep both the bugs and the sun out of their face. Although their body was naturally designed to enjoy this type of environment, Gubb had long since cast off his Ribbinynh heritage.
Finally, after hours of walking, the tiny Frog came upon a set of ruins, stone walls half buried beneath the sinking swamp. A battle had occurred here several hundred years ago, a group of paladins were hunting a vampire who called these ruins home. The vampire, along with it's entire staff team, were slaughtered and left here to be forgotten. Gubb remembered though, but what he remembered was not the vampire lord himself, no that guy was a jerk. The frog distinctively recalled the vampires head butler, a fine man with attention to detail and a strong work ethic. That's what Gubb was here for, to bring that butler back to life so that he could serve the frog for the rest of time.
But where were the bodies?

C'Leena was tired. There were a multitude of other feelings mixed in her being as well, most of all fear, however that has long since been something she's learnt to deal with effectively. A few deep breaths, some questions to herself and her fear was diluted to something she can push to the back of her mind.
"That will be something to deal with later." she mumbled to herself as she walked along the decrepit path. It was an incredibly uncomfortable hike. The ground was muddy and soft in a lot of places, and her boots kept either slipping out from under her, nearly throwing her on her ass too many times to count, or they would sink into the ground, making the walk that much harder. Trees and marshland surrounded her, various animal calls echoed through the trees, sounds made by animals she was unwilling to meet. Hell, she hadn't actually seen a damn animal outside of common house pets her entire life.
Her entire life had been thrown upside down again. After a particularly interesting conversation with a wizard so he claimed, C'Leena was given a bag, some rations and essentially told to 'go figure it out'. She was still sour about that, even thought it had been hours ago by now. The man said he had summoned her or something like that. Her hopes that this was an elaborate prank or something of the sort were dwindling by the moment.
This would generally be the part where her legs would be aching like nobodies business, but she hasn't had to deal with leg pain for a good few years now. That had been quite the thing to get used to. Her only pains were the constant ache of scar tissue across her back and hips but that, too, was nothing new.
Ahead, she could vaguely make out the silhouette of crumbling walls. Finally, she thought. I oughta do some maintenance anyway. Grime cannot be good for the limbs, magic or not.
With a deep breath, she trekked on the final stretch, keen on sitting and simply cleaning for a while.

This is exactly why they were after a new butler, it had become bothersome to do menial task like digging in the mud, they were far better than this. But in order to have a butler help with odd jobs, they first needed to recover said butler. Gubb really had no idea where the bodies would have fallen, most of them having decayed and become one with the earth once more. So, they just started digging, pulling out a tiny compact shovel, and now furiously moving dirt, mud and earth. It was rough, physical labor was not really the frog's things, and after only a few seconds of digging, the pain burning set in. Luckily for them, they did not sweat, or really have to worry about bodily precautions. But Solari be damned the heat was over bearing, and quickly Gubb found themselves running out of energy.
They continued to push through, as minutes turned to hours, Gubb kept going, having only dug a foot deep hole so far. That's when something broke the silence, a sound outside of the ruins, like footsteps moving through the marsh. Someone was approaching. Gubb leapt from the hole and held their shovel above their head like a weapon. No one knew they were here, so unless a random hiker stumbled upon this place, it was more than likely a savage animal here to make the frog lunch. Gubb braced and waited for whatever it was to turn the corner, revealing their vile, dangerous silhouette.

Walking into the ruin, C'Leena was intent on simply sitting and cleaning, so she did exactly that, not exactly taking in her surroundings. She didn't notice the frog wearing safari gear, nor did she notice the hole it was digging mere moments ago. C'Leena found a fallen rock and sat herself down, sighing deeply in relief.
C'Leena is a 6' woman with bronze skin, short curly black hair and - most jarring of all - crystalline aquamarine eyes that entirely lack irises, pupils or sclera. Surrounding her eyes is the unmistakable web that was rather severe burn scarring. It seems old, however unlikely to heal any further. Her clothing is incredibly strange, wearing fabrics and materials that are completely unfamiliar.
C'Leena is wearing a Large Pea coat over a black long sleeve shirt. Below that, she has a pair of denim jeans, a brown belt and rather heavy duty work boots.
Still seemingly oblivious to the presence of anyone else, she takes off her coat, then her shirt, revealing a white tank top. More of the scarring surrounding her eyes is revealed around her shoulders that seem to spread toward her back. Strangely enough, the scarring simply stops at her arm, making a distinct line between scarred tissue and healthy flesh.
You quickly realize why that is, as she casually removes her right arm from her shoulder, rests it across her lap and begins cleaning out the connection between her arm and shoulder. As it's disconnected, what looked like skin fizzles out, revealing a metal and wood limb you'd find on a construct, absolutely covered in sigils and magic runes.
After a solid 30 seconds, she finally looks up and makes eye contact with the frog holding the comically small shovel. C'Leena freezes up, asking herself how in the hell she missed a.. frog wearing a safari costume digging a hole.
"Uh, g'day? How long have you been there?" She asks, not breaking eye contact.
This is going to be a long, long day, it seems.

They were furious! Absolutely outraged at this random woman who had no common sense about her! There was no introduction, no exchanging of names, no common courtesy given at all! Here they were, tiny defenseless Ribbinynh scarred for their lives, and this odd looking person just saunters in and ignores them? The audacity!
"Well I have been here for quite a minute, and have been ignored! You nearly gave me a heart attack. "
Gubb cleared their throat then returned the shovel to it's resting place, knowing now that there was no real danger. They straightened their vest and calmed themselves, trying not to get overwhelmed with rage. They took three giant breathes and relaxed, before addressing the stranger again.
"I must apologize for that out burst, I am not normally so rash. You simply startled me while I was doing some work. You really must introduce yourself when entering a room. I could have killed you!"
They had put the charm back on, wanting this person to think that they truly were sorry. Making enemies with a stranger, especially here during this specific job, was not a good idea. Whoever this was, Gubb hoped they would not cause any trouble. The night was already going to be annoying.

She looks at the frog, down at her prosthetic and back up. She sighs and reconnects the disconnected limb, the illusory skin ripples from her shoulder down. If you hadn't seen her take off the limb, there would be no reason to believe that her arm was fake in the first place.
"Doctor C'Leena Thomas. Sorry for the scare, I didn't mean to spook you. Didn't even notice you initially."
Only a part of that was a lie. Truthfully, C'Leena wasn't sorry. She found the frog too amusing to be sorry, but she kept the smirk off her face. Although, when they spoke, she wasn't entirely sure what to expect. British Kermit was not even close to being on the list, though.
"Kill me with a shovel? Bud, you just watched me take a limb off, I would be thoroughly impressed," she says with a smile and a kind voice, despite the words being said. "May I ask you what exactly you're doing in the middle of a ruin, digging a hole in a safari outfit?" She asks, then adds on, "You look good in it, though. Gotta give credit where credit is due."
She crosses one leg over the other, steeples her fingers and leans forward, eyes twinkling with curiosity despite their featurelessness. She only just arrived in this world, and a talking frog being the first thing she encounters outside of the dick that was the wizard? She's no longer sure what to expect from this place.
