A nice expedition to the quite exotic she thought, wandering about the village on the side of a massive mountain. Full of treehouses and Aviankin, as well as a healthy mix of other citizens, the hustle and bustle was quite nice compared to her normally isolated time at the manor. She had been out and about, buying goods that were hard to get elsewhere like down pillows, meanwhile also finding an appropriate place to put her package from Oswald. The society had piqued her interest, especially with everyone living in such a hazardous environment. It wasn't easy to exist at thousands of feet above sea level, nor was it a secret that the smoke from nearby volcanoes occasionally floated this way.
She sat at a cafe, sipping on something called Owl Coffee, as she contemplated where to go next. Gwendolyn sat surrounded by three maids, two of which were politely standing nearby waiting for orders, and the third sitting across from her smoking on a cigarette.
There had been reports of odd happenings lately, even around town. Small tremors brought fears that the Dragons spine was waking, soon to bring destruction upon them all. Unfounded, largely due to the fact that while it was a fault line, consensus held that the mountains were stable enough after centuries of this town existing. She sipped her coffee, and tried to push such thoughts to the back of her head.

Oh, Dragon’s Spine. The rumours spread far, to the point where even little she, all the way in Darkveil, had heard the fears of the lovely people in Dragon’s Spine, which was just simply more than enough reason for her to come, after all. It was either she did it now or she would never get the chance, right? And since her mother had loosened the reins, meaning Persie could go almost anywhere she wished, she had decided she just in fact wanted to visit everywhere she could.
Oh, did Persie love exploring. Sky peak village was such a fun little place! All the things she could climb, and places she could fall, it all gave her such a thrill. Persie was casually walking through the city, making fun, playing games, and simply being happy with existing, and soon she had entered the cafe. She stopped, breathed in the air, and hummed happily as she walked up to the counter, her low pigtail-parted hair bouncing with every step, only showing her excitement.
Soon she had gotten up to the front, and she giggled with the employee for a moment before simply saying - “I’ll get one of whatever you suggest. Owl coffee, you said? It sounds so nice.”

A small rumble, barely perceptible, marched throughout the shop. A few glasses clattered about on their porcelain plates, but nothing was damaged. Well, except for Gwendolyn's shirt. The small rumble had come across at just the right time to make her spill her coffee directly all over the blouse, covering it in a dark brown film that made it look as though she had tripped face-first into a puddle of mud. “Fuck” She muttered to herself, the single napkin that had come with her beverage wouldn’t be enough for this. She stood, steam almost visibly erupting from her ears as there was noone to be mad at but the faultline. Brazenly, she passed the person first in line to demand some more napkins. “Pardon, but I need something to clean this mess. My maids are still out in town shopping and I was only given one napkin.”
“Oh, of course ma’am” the Aviankin employee said, before turning back to Persephone “Right after I finish with this customer you so rudely interrupted” “Excuse me?”
“I said rig-“ “I want to talk to your manager”

The almost imperceptible quake made Persie almost lose her balance. Thankfully, she did manage to catch herself. Then this lady comes in and basically shoves her out of the way. “Whoa– excuse me…” She mumbled, grumbling slightly as she dusted herself off. Honestly, it wasn’t as bothersome to Persie as it should have been. I mean, she essentially threw her to the side to complain about… Napkins?
The poor lovely employee, though. Persie sent him a quick smile, because it was honestly very sweet, but wow. This lady sure seemed to think she was just the center of the world. Persie let her mind wander for a moment, because truly, was it not weird that that just happened? This place was on the edge of the cliff, and when she actually looked around, people were definitely spooked. But then she heard the lady, again, start throwing a fit. Persie rolled her eyes, and grabbed some napkins from the table next to her and offer it to the lady. “Honestly, do you mind just walking away? You’re being a bit… Dramatic.” Persie gives her a sickly sweet smile. For once, she was hoping to NOT get into a fight.
Then another small quake happened. People started freaking out now. Persie looks around, now aware of the situation around here. She looks at the employee, who’s eyes are now widened and freaked. “I-is this normal? You guys are on the edge of a cliff, should… Should I be worried?”
A moment of silence, and a clearing of his throat. “Honestly miss? probably.”

“DRAMATI-“ She says, interrupted by another small shake. “I’m sorry, DRAMATIC?! You don’t even KNOW what kind of drama you’re about to see hun.” The atmopshere in the cafe had definitely changed from calm to anxious and panicky, and Gwendolyn was definitely not helping. The door jangles as several women dressed in reserved maid outfits enter in a hurry. “God’s, she’s started another ruckus” “Ma’am? It’s time to go, A huge tree down the road just fell off a cliff, I don’t think the worst has come yet”
That definitely set the remainder of the patrons into full panic, they were right on that cliff. A good shake would put them so far down the ravine it would take weeks just to retrieve the bodies. That, was the moment that the real quake hit. The ground beneath their feet trembled and rocked heavily, as though their solid ground had just turned into the deck of a ship on the high seas. It wasn't even a quake, more of an upheaval of earth that held the entire city upon it. Glass shattered as the windows of the cafe tore into a million pieces, spilling dangerously out onto the street. A large tree uprooted and landed on the roof, sending ceiling tiles crashing onto the already frightened patrons. Gwendolyn summoned her maul and wedged it between a piece of the ceiling and the floor as it threatened to collapse. And it just kept going, this was no ordinary quake.

“Oh sh–” Persie held on to something - REALLY REALLY tight. Once things were calm enough for her to think, and she got a lay of what was happening in front of her… Turns out Karen was useful. “Okay, Princess. Well, assuming your tantrum isn’t the cause of this, nor are my quakingly good looks, maybe you could chill out enough to help me help them? Or, Gods forbid, you’re just worried about saving yourself?”
Her answer, actually, didn’t quite matter to Persie. She looked around. “Okay… I can summon vines, so people can climb out of here.”
She did just that. She waved her hand, and vines sprouted in a ladder shape, from the collapsed roof to a somewhat safe cliff-dent where the patrons and employees could easily get to safety. “One at a time, yeah? Please be careful!” Another quake. A rather small one, comparatively. She winced as more stuff rattled around her, and she looked to see if anyone was injured. She looks over to Gwen, gesturing up. “You and your little maids should be going too - But again, do be careful!”
Oh what a nightmare this was. Usually Persie was all for some good chaos - But not when it threatened her whole life, or those who clearly did not deserve it. She herded most of the people up the vines, watching to make sure no one fell.

Gods above all this chaos gave her a headache. And yet, it seemed like the biggest irritation still came from the woman who was harassing her before the quake. She didn’t think she could take care of herself and her wards in a little earthquake huh?! She thought, still finding her balance from the last aftershock. Her maids looked between Gwen and the ladder with urgency and realization. “Liste-“ She begun, stopped as the hands of Bernadette, a tall bookish woman with a stern face, wrapped around her mouth. “Thank you, lets go everyone, I do apologize for my mistress” Gwendolyns eyes showed only fury as she swallowed her pride and clambered up the ladder after her maids. Mumbling the whole time under her breath that she could have saved herself. Once the rest of the patrons had escaped, she recalled her Censer Maul that had been holding up the roof to allow the rest of it to collapse. Their small ledge of safety was tight, but solid. The ruins and smoke of the city rose around them, clogging the atmosphere in dust. Gwendolyn approached the woman, eager to vent everything she had been holding back. “Who do you think you are?! Think I cant take care of myself? I don’t need you or your stupid vines!”

Persie got a weird sense of enjoyment, or righteous pride, over the maids and the Karen taking the way out she provided. After all, she absolutely would have been crushed if Persie didn’t help, right? As she rushed to get everyone out, and as soon as they made sure everyone was safe, and let the building collapse, Persie was delighted to see her come over. Persie paused, smirked, crossed her arms and let her rant, yelling and screaming and putting Persie down. All Persie could do was chuckle. “Alright. Won’t happen next time, Princess. I’m sure you would be able to save you and your three lovely maidens by yourself!” The sarcasm was dripping.
“Maybe next time, just to prove it… Just don’t take it. I mean, after all, if you’re gonna bite the hand offered, the hand is gonna stop offering itself. Good luck with your own shit, baby girl.”
Persie was, rightfully in her own mind, of course, pissed off. Truly, was sort of self-important brat was this? Persie held her middle finger to the princess’s face, and turned out to check if everyone else was okay. The tremors seemed to have stopped, and as she went to check on a group of men, she asked aloud. “Well this was dangerous. Are tremors normal around here?” She asked as she leaned down to check if the man's ankle was broken

Steam was almost visibly emitted from Gwendolyns face as the veil failed to hide the redness of agitation and anger. The celestial on her shoulder bade her to calm her self, find the center, and let it go. She took a deep breath after the woman flipped her off and went to go inspect the mans foot. “Not important, not important, not important” She chanted, bringing herself back to reality. Looking around, the citizens who had paid attention to her outburst were giving her sidelong glances of almost pity. The redness in her face changed from anger to embarrassment. This was a disaster area, and she was worried about accepting help from strangers who were saving her. No, she could have saved herself. She didn’t actually need the escape, but it wasn’t the place to make it apparent. Right? Her outburst was over, everyone seemed to be going about tending to the wounded or gathering and attempting to come up with plans. Around them, the remains of the city burned. Smoke plumed from below where the ruins of tall trees and buildings smoldered in the chasm from the cliff. What could she do to make herself feel important right now the infernal on her other shoulder asked… She pulled a small and a large vial from her waistband. The small one was a deep blue, and as she mixed it with the milky white substance and closed the cap, the larger one adopted it’s colour. She tossed the concoction over to the injured man that the woman was inspecting. Pale blue gas filled the air as it swirled around, touching the wounded on the cliff edge. Bones popped back into place and bleeding wounds sealed. A smirk crossed Gwendolyns face. “I guess he didn’t need your help either” All of the maids behind her bowed their heads and looked away. They already knew the situation had gotten out of hand, she was irretrievable when she got like this. Vindicative, almost cruel.

Persephone was in the middle of getting an answer from one of the men just as the princess had interrupted. Persie watched as the man healed, and the woman take credit. Persephone rolled her eyes. “Congratulations, you administered a potion. You’re so amazing, wooow.” Persephone started slowly clapping her hands as she spoke, the sarcasm still very, very apparent. Persie chuckles a little at herself as she then looks back to the men. “So, the tremors?” She questions, gently moving one of them to sit down as she examined his wounds - Merely flesh wounds, but nonetheless, she moved to grab some gauze and alcohol from the pile of medicinal supplies around them.
“This is the first time this has ever happened…” One of the men finally respond, wincing a little as a salve was applied to his head wound. “I mean, we live on the edge of a mountain! We wouldn’t do that unless it was safe!” He adds. Persephone just quietly nods in response. “Well I’ve certainly never heard of earthquakes in this area… Which is why this is so unusual.” She seemed very confused about the situation- then someone spoke up in the back.
“You know, I’ve heard of tremors happening all over the place!” Someone mumbled in response, then another person. Mumbles turned into conversations, and then panic. Persie winces as people start to yell. “Oh goodness gracious…”

Her annoyance grew to a peak. First this woman just brushing her off, next all these people panicking over nothing. She was surrounded by weakness. Mewling kittens desperate for the milk of human kindness. Too bad, they would find no succor from her today. “SHUT THE FUCK UP” She shouted out to the crowd, turning away from the crouching woman. “If you don’t have a way off this godforsaken cliff, then sit down and shut up. I do not give a fuck about your city, or the source of the tremors. I care about not falling off the cliff.”
The crowd simmered down, recoiling as if personally attacked. But, after all, it worked. They shut up, and only spoke up if they had ideas. One particular boy stepped forward to raise his hand, his mother desperately grasping at him to return. She whispered to Persie as he left her grasp. “Don’t let her hurt him, please…” “What if we could jump down… like landing on a bed?” “That’s st…wait.” Gwendolyn paused a moment before chiding him. It wasnt a bad idea, they were only like a hundred feet off of the next big ledge, and looking down it seemed like other survivors down below were being evacuated through the sewer tunnels. They would just need something to catch them. “Good work kid.” She said, as she simultaneously paged through the abilities on the ring that her boyfriend Wolfe had given her. He had a suspicious amount of ooze based spells, but in this instance it would be to her benefit. Pointing at a spot down on the ledge below, she activated the ring (1). A large sheet of electric blue ooze grew and covered a portion of it, ready to catch all who fell. Turning back towards the crowd, she gave a quick apologetic smile, and jumped. Her maids followed suit one by one, without hesitation, and then they were gone.

Persephone would NEVER admit it - Not under duress, not under torture. Hell, she’d find a way to avoid it under a truth spell - But she was sort of thankful for the Princess managing to somehow control the chaos that was ensuing. Though, and she is not entirely sure why she would have expected this out of her, Persie thinks she could have been a bit nice about it. Ideas were flowing around, and then the boy had shot his hand up like a child in class. Persie watched him as he rushed forward, excitedly explaining his idea as his mother panicked. Persie barely looked over to her as she responded; “I’m not entirely sure what you’d want me to do. If he gets hurt, it is, in fact, his own fault…”
Even she was surprised when the princess had agreed with his idea. But to be fair, it was a pretty good idea. Persie walked up to the Princess and the maids as they jumped, and Persie pat the kid on the head as she looked over the edge. The trio of maids were already helping the princess out of the soft ooze-like bed as she cupped her hands over her mouth to yell down to her; “YOU’RE GONNA KEEP IT UP FOR US, RIGHT?” After getting a confirmation, she nods, and looks over at the kid and his mom. “You two can go first. I’ll stay up here and make sure everyone gets down safely before I go.”
Why was she doing this again? Persie seemed fairly annoyed at herself at the moment. But hey, she’s at least better than the princess right now. Right?
