"Oh, I'm not that noble. Usually, people like you as long as you’re useful to them. I intend on keeping myself useful, at the same time I make my coin for my living. Of course, I still have a place in my heart for an spur of the moment kindness towards a gentle knight or something like that..."
She made a mental note to remember asking the knight what he meant by "mana cursed". For the moment, even before she could try and get an answer for the plan he devised, Gabriel was already charging forward. To her surprise, the beast was "alive", and promptly charged at Duros. His courage was inspiring, and with a pang of pain, reminded her of another knight that, at that moment, she considered to be a part of her past. Brave, maybe a bit too much for his own good.
He lunged forward, and she quickly started to walk around the clearing, trying not to get the attention of the beast, getting a bit closer to the buddings. She positioned herself and waved to Gabriel so he could attract the crocodile out of the clearing. She would wait for it to pursue the knight, so she could safely and quickly collect the plants. If she was quick enough, she could still help him get rid of the beast.
"What a wild plan..."

Her words had left him with a twinge of hope at least, in that this woman was a good person wether she had said it outright or not. Coin was fine but it still required that she forgive grievances or be unwilling to hold a grudge and even in its barest form that was admirable, "That is still an admirable thought..."
After his dash and challenging of the beast he had no time to think about anything else as he found himself weaving between its limbs and tail as it launched attack after attack on him. What he couldn't block with his shield he dodged with his footwork, yet he found himself slowly moving towards the losing end of this fight though as he was just a little too slow with dodging a tail swipe of the ferocious beast, finding the tip of the Crocodiles tail making contact with his cuirass and sending him careening with a loud thunk into one of the nearby trees. Sliding down the trunk and to the ground he blinked his eyes open slowly as a ringing sounded out through his skull.
"Oof.... that was not a part of the plan...."
Slowly coming too he was just fast enough to raise his shield sideways as the jaws of the beast wrapped around the trunk and tried to clamp down, his shield the only thing stopping the croc from closing its jaws immediately. Positioning his armor thighs on the center of the top and bottom of the zombie cross jaws respectively he used his enhanced strength to more or less keep the beasts jaw propped open around himself.
"KAMILLE!!!! If you got a sec.... I could use a hand here!", a brief laugh of nervousness left his mouth as he thought about the situation at hand and just how south the moment was heading with each passing second.

When the beast seemed interested enough in Duros, she ran for the small buddings that were the whole wide reason she was in that wet hell of a swamp. For a moment she feared damaging them, and after a moment of hesitation, instead of just plucking the buddings, she grabbed the earth around the roots and took it all. She threw a few of them into her small purse, with earth, roots and all, as careful as she could be.
Next, she briefly ran to the side of the clearing to leave her purse full of dirt and plants, so she could quickly come back to help Duros.
Kamille focused and took a deep breath. She was fortunate enough, unlike Duros, to have a great well of mana to draw from, an inner flame that she got to get closer at each opportunity. The more she practiced, the more she and this inner flame became familiar to one another - so much so that a physical change came upon her and she didn't even notice it. The air around her got hotter, as the tips of the feathers that adorned her clothes started to glow with an incandescent light. Her eyes, usually deep sapphires, changed dramatically: they looked like furnaces, glowing in red and oranges. She raised her hands, mana weaving around them as she prepared the spell.
A stormy cloud swirled over the monster, and within a moment more, it started to rain upon him. Not regular rain by far: stones enveloped in fire rained on the beast, hitting it in a multitude of places and setting ablaze wherever they could.
Kamille summoned forth a meteor shower to cover the monster in fire, hoping it would give Duros the oportunity to either strike back or disengage.

The jaws firmly locked around his frame and his shield he held tight and true as he hoped for a timely rescue by his new companion as it were, a hope that was seen to fruition as he felt the ambient temperature increase drastically around himself and undead monstrosity that had him pinned between itself and a tree. Tucking in tighter he simply withstood that which came for him feeling the fire lick at his skin as the heated rocks pummeled into and tore apart pieces of the long dead beast, its reanimated sinew keeping it together in the shambling form it held up until Kamille saw fit to roast it with her magic.
The damage from her spell caused the crocodile to release its jaws as it attempted to turn around and launch itself at Kamille with abject fury and snapping massive jaws, despite the holes that now riddled its undead frame. Refusing to back down however Gabriel lunged forward from his crouched position as the beast had moved, and used the massive strength he possessed from his Bulls Mark to both grab the legs of the beast and literally hold it back, causing it to stop four or so feet short of being able to bite Kamille with its terrifying jaws.
"I am not sure how long I can hold it, so if you have anything more up your sleeves it seemed to really dislike the fire!", there was a light sense of humor in his tone despite the sense of urgency that was held as well.

Kamille still feared the distance between the beast and her new friend if she was to launch another spell. She didn't want to hurt Gabriel too, but there was no more time to calculate - at the very least, now there was some distance between the beast's muzzle and Gabriel, so she prepared another spell.
The winds seemed to shift - in truth, it was not the winds that reacted to her magic, it was the fabric of reality itself that shifted and tore apart to make way for her spell. It started with sparkles, and then the flames grew, shifting and dancing around her arms and condensing in her palms. And then, when she clasped her hands together in front of her, the balls of fire combined to create a large fireball, that promptly jumped from her hands and exploded on the beasts open maws, as it tried to catch her.
The impact of her spell was violent, and the fireball splashed all around. Even she felt it pushing her back, since she was close to the beast - she hoped Gabriel would be okay. A Massive FireBall might have been overkill, but it certainly took care of what remained of the dead beast.... as well as of many plants and small animals on the vicinity of it. It was a good decision to first take the buddings she was looking for and place them safely away.

He hoped that whatever was about to come next would be enough to kill the damn beast as he was doing all that he could just to hold it in place and Solaria forbid if the back leg joints detached and it went after Kamille, Mages were usually amazing combatants but didn't always have the best close combat skills in his experience.
What came next though was not something that he could have prepared for though as he felt the massive heat and saw the corona in front of the crocodile first. Barely having time to react to it he held his ground as he utilized his training to prepare his body for what was about to come. The massive fireball seemingly became even larger as it engulfed the undead being and whatever gasses it was emitting, sending a massive draft of fire out past its back side, Gabriel and the poor mangrove behind him in a massive conflagration.
What was left standing was a man who seemed all but okay with a soft hue surrounding him as the wounds he took from the crocodile had begun to be healed by utilizing his family's technique of spell eating, the only thing that allowed him to fight on par with those that could use something he would never be able too. Sections of his clothing were burnt or smoldering and destroyed from the intense fire, his armor still glowing as it died down, but his body seemed fine as if whatever damage was caused by the spell had been completely negated.
"That was.... something... truly splendid Lady Kamille!", despite looking more disheveled then he had probably ever looked before he seemed to be jovial nonetheless and even scratched the back of his head as he spoke with a smile on his lips. Taking a look at his smoldering frame he noticed that maybe 40% of his clothes were destroyed but otherwise he was fine, and his armor still remained so it wasn't like he was defenseless or anything at least.
"Please tell me those were the right buds?", a laugh escaped him as he walked towards her and shook his head looking at the ash that remained of their foe.

There wouldn’t be the need of it, but with a wide gesture, she snuff out the remaining fire that lingered in the clearing, making sure not to start a fire that would get out of control. The clearing was scorched, and everything around them was either whithered or just plain charcoal. When the dust and fire settled down, she seemed worried about Duros.
"Oh my! I'm so sorry! Are you okay? Are you hurt?"
She approached, but seemed kinda worried and didn’t lay a hand on him. Her worried seemed unfounded as... he looked okay, without a single burnt mark.
Now, that was interesting... Some of his clothes were gone, but she wouldn’t complain in the slightest.
When he mentioned the buddings, her eyes went wide open and she quickly forgot she was worried about him. She ran back to where she left her purse, that now was filled with earth and a few buddings.
"Now, it's the time of the truth... Do you have a knife?"
She did mention the blood lily needed a drop of blood to bloom.

His concern was entirely laden on her and none of it on his own being as he strode towards her once she stepped forward, stopping short of her as he listened to her words and simply smirked sheepishly before scratching the back of his head and looking off into the middle distance, "It's... a technique of my families. Those who become a member of the order can begin to learn certain techniques that help fight against those gifted in magic. "Eating" it so to speak to heal ourselves and negate direct damage to our being at least.... Clothes not withstanding.", his last line came as he looked down at himself and notice the bits of exposed flesh on his torso and thighs, "I can't do it to many times without rest but its useful when it needs to be."
Following her to the purse and hearing her ask about a knife he instead cut his palm on the sharpened edges of his shield and held it out to her palm up, "Will this suffice? I don't... use weapons really. Just my shield and body if I can help it....", she was curious as he observed her and looked into her eyes, his own searching for something that not even he was sure of. She was magnanimous to him to say the least.

Well... If that was the case, she didn't have to hold back so much, worried about hurting him. That was very interesting indeed - she never heard of this people who would have abilities to negate magic spells... It would certainly be something she needed to look further into, as she could get in trouble for this. Gabriel was gentle and good enough with her, but maybe the next one with that ability she could face, might not be as good, and seeing as magic was her only ability so far... Food for thought.
She woke up from her musings as he cut his hand on the sharpened edge of his shield. She asked something to cut herself actually, but she couldn't deny help if he already did it.
With the buddings on her satchel - that looked more like a plant pot right now, with lots of earth as well as the plants - she arranged the plants so they would all stick upwards from the satchel. There was a curious glint in her eyes, as she anticipated if these buddings were the ones she wanted.
Gently, she took his hand and let the blood drop on the plants, one at a time, a few drops in each. For a moment, it felt like nothing was going to happen, and Kamille even looked a bit frustrated. She took a fright when Mischief suddenly cawed nearby, so focused on the plants as she was. Then, slowly, the buddings started to shift, slightly engorge, as if about to burst. Right before their eyes, the green of the buddings were displaced to give way to six, large and silky petals of the deep red color. One by one, they all bloomed. They were really pretty and their scent was warm and... very different from anything they have ever felt.
Kamille flashed a satisfied smile to Gabriel, but before she could say anything, they could hear Mischief cawing in the distance.
"CAWWWWWWW! Shinny box!"

He watched her intently as she worked, his curiosity peaked so to speak as he watcher her ply a trade and skill that he was envious of to say the least. After all, being able to heal and alchemy as a whole was a coveted ability...
Seeing the petals bloom and the smell they radiated was amazing and wholly different then he was used too. It was an act of earthly beauty and was uplifting to see, as thinking back he was fairly sure he had never seen flowers actually bloom. They just sort of happened or rather his focus had never been on the between part, usually only noticing them after they had bloomed for a while. Seeing the transformation itself, even though he knew these were a special case, was beautiful.
The gentle touch of her hand upon his was pleasing, something that he couldn't deny even if it was perhaps not the most chivalrous inner thought as she held his hand there and guided the flow of his blood onto the buds, as they finished blooming she flashed him a smile that in it of itself was a gift at least, given what it took to get the buds. Smiling back at her sheepishly he seemed a little flustered as he gently pulled his hand back to wrap it with a piece of cloth he ripped from the already damaged torso section of his tunic.
"That was.... an enjoyable experience Kamille... Thank you. Hopefully this box proves less... active of a quest. I am not sure I have enough clothing to remain chivalrous if we had to fight another beast like that!", he let out a small nervous laugh before being interrupted by the cawing of Mischief. Snapping his head in the direction of the cawing he moved towards before speaking again, "He is a good familiar... Tell me, how did you acquire him?", his voice was warmer and more gentle towards her now, not that it hadn't been before but it lacked a certain from of pageantry that it had before and now was more trusting in nature.

Kamille's eyes lit up as the flowers bloomed completely. It was clearly something she enjoyed very much, and once they all exposed their blood-red petals, she inspected them for a moment, touching them very lightly. Mischief called for their attention yet again, and she carefully - almost tenderly - put the flowers away, protected and safe. Finally.
Then, she turned to Gabriel, and after a good, very indiscrete look up and down, she casually added with a playful smile.
"I don't mind about the 'chivalrous' part that much, if I'm being honest..."
She clearly liked to mess with him, as she followed it with a chuckle and a gesture for them to follow the raven. Mischief was insistent on his cawings as to guide them, clearly a very smart bird.
"He belonged to a... questionable stable. The owner seemed to be fed up with him, and then when I entered, he attached to me like I was his Master.... The stablemaster didn't allow me to leave without paying for me. And so... This is the short story of how a bird tricked me."

He blushed at her mention of not necessarily minding if he had remained chivalrous or not. It was not something he had expected even if it was appreciated. Smirking he shook his head as he looked down and spoke before rising his eyes to meet hers again, "I see... Well honesty is always appreciated... even if it can be a good way to get into trouble...".
Luckily for him Mischief had cawed again allowing the subject to change before he gave up more of himself then he had intended, not that that was such a bad thing, but the swamp was for sure not the place for that conversation to continue at, at least not in his mind.
Hearing her speak of how she came to acquire him as they walked towards wherever the ebon bird in question was signaling them from he smiled and nodded along after she had finished, even letting out a little chuckle at her quip, "At least such a beautiful and majestic creature was the one to trick you, and not a greedy or precocious thing yes? Could have been far worse... I envy you though, having a traveling companion in any form is great thing... The road and adventuring life can be lonely at times, that much is certain.", he was both raring to find the box, and finding himself enamored enough to want the moment to extend longer while they were lost within the great swamp as it were.

"Trouble is my middle name. It used to be Mischief, but then I gave the name to the bird - even that he stole from me!"
At the very least, Mischief as exceedingly good at finding shinny objects - not as much to find plants, though. Which is why she was so happy to have help in her quest, a silly smile accros her lips.
"I'm often of the opinion that loneliness is an option. I love Mischief, but sometimes I need to talk to people, you know? Do you usually feel lonely, Gabriel? Mages are used to a tad bit of loneliness, but I'd assume a chilvarous one as yourself must be always surrounded by friends and suitors alike."
Their walk wasn't long, but felt actually rather short and quick. Mischief flew over a very big tree, and seemed rather distressed. There was a squared shape entangled with vines, moss and spider webs. Through all of that, they could spot the glinter of gold lining the box.
"I'm assuming that is your box? Do you have ideas as how to retrieve it?"
Mischief himself seemed to not be able to disentangle the box from the vines that held it, and looked rather distressed. He wanted his shinny very badly![/font]

He couldn't help but let out a soft laugh at her joke about the Mishcief name which hopefully was one but even if it wasn't it deserved at least a chuckle.
"A pretty thief he is then!"
Her mention of loneliness though, made him somber intentionally or not, especially so when it came to the mention of suitors and friends. He had his fill when he started his Questing but that didn't last long and was seemingly a long forgotten memory in regards to how his life had been for the last few months. He tried his best to not sour the otherwise pleasant mood with his tonal shift but it was as if he couldn't hide away from the truth when he retorted.
"More often then not I am alone. It could be by choice but... The life I have had led for some time now doesn't really allow for roots so to speak. Finding a band to stick with, that meshes perfectly with oneself is just as hard."
It wasn't that he wasn't kind or magnanimous as those were both good descriptors, but he also took his work seriously and the same kind of people that cling to him for his outgoing self are not always the type to adventure or be serious about it when it matters least, he is a knight after all and to him the Questing wasn't just freedom but a duty that must be followed.
The bird pointed out the box to them as it was entangled against one of the larger of the trees still alive within in the area. Her notion of asking him how he planned to get it down was amusing at least for how he wanted to respond, not just because it was his nature but he had just been dour so to speak and that wouldn't do for the moment would it?
"I could try and climb it I suppose. I would suggest ramming into it with my shield but... I think we are all a little too evolved for that type of display."
A wry smile graced his lips as he looked into her eyes and then back up to the box and shook his head, moving towards the trunk itself. Cracking his back and stretching he started to climb up the tree slowly, using his strength to quite literally pus his fingers and feet into the gnarled and dense bark of the mangrove itself as he went.
"I didn't think I would be getting such exercise today.... Perhaps the Lady would regale me with more of herself as I work my way up there?"

The simplest of solutions, really! As a mage, and not a particular gifted one in the sense of physical capabilities, she often tried to solve everything with magic. Sometimes, even more complicated than needed. What a bit of physical prowess didn’t do, right?
Kamille seemed to notice his shift as he spoke of his loneliness. It was a different situation for everyone, but she could understand it. She would always try to help.
"Maybe its not only a matter of having someone at your side all the time... but knowing you can count on someone, you know? For instance! From now on, every once in a while, you may see yourself wandering around Moonglade. And then you'll know you have a friend there who could give you food and shelter and booze. Good booze, I might add. And then you'll get yourself wondering 'Maybe I'll crash at Kamille's while I'm here. Her stew is okay.'"
It was obviously a backhanded way of inviting him over her house whenever he found himself at Moonglade. When it came time to talk about herself, she looked a bit more shy.
"There’s nothing much really. I left my Master and went to Moonglade to learn on my own. Have been on my own ever since. I'm liking it better this way. Are you sure you don’t need any help?"
She sounded worried. Not... that she could help much on that regard.
