"Do not misunderstand," she gives Caedes a bit of a comforting squeeze. "I will still kick both your and my brother's asses for being a pair of idiots. Just, not right now. Not while you both are hurting."
If she was being honest, she had a LOT of different feelings about this situation. She was frustrated with both her brother and Caedes, upset with herself for letting them be dumbasses to begin with, relieved that neither of them ended up dead in an alleyway, and worried about if they were going to be okay moving forward.
She was doing her best to respect their feelings, their privacy, and their choices at grown ass adults but by the long dead fucking gods were they making it difficult.
BUT, sometimes it was necessary to step in.
Taking a deep breath, she steadies her nerves.
"I know a spell which will let me see what you saw. It is not the same thing as experiencing what you did, but you will not be the only one to carry those painful memories."
The spell she spoke of was one Caedes had been subjected to before, but without his knowledge and cast by the powerful Witch of Moonglade. It was a spell that allowed the caster to know the past of another. She learned the spell to aid with their family's work, to interrogate people or ensure the loyalty of their allies.
It was not a spell to be cast lightly. And to use it on a friend was something she tried to avoid when possible.
This was different though. Caedes had gone through a loss few could relate to. He didn't just lose his family, he also lost his own life. It no doubt had changed him in irreversible ways, ways that were hard to understand or speak of because there was no one else to empathize with what he had gone through.
She looks at Caedes, even if he refuses to meet her gaze. "It is something I can do for you that my brother cannot. We do not need to even talk about them until you are ready."
As much as he may want to hide from her, she wasn't willing about to let him. It was clear he was holding in all this for so long and all by himself. While likely necessary after everything that happened, that didn't mean it was healthy for him to keep doing it.
Gently, she lets go of one of the changeling's hands and brushes some of his hair out of his face and back behind his ear. "For now, while things are too painful to speak of, I can at least share in your grief and your pain."
Resting her hand against the side of his face, she pauses for a minute before adding, "Only if you agree to it."
Even though she does believe this was for the best, she would not betray his trust while he was vulnerable. He had to make the decision, and regardless of if she agrees with what he decides, she would respect it.
As she waits for his answer, she starts to mentally prepare herself for if the answer is yes. Even if she had an idea of what to expect, the memories and the emotions attached to them would no doubt be powerful and raw.
