Nyr’s impression of Zeinav City upon entering for the first time could be summed up in one simple word: nervewracking. Though he had grown accustomed to life in Zeinav’s Oasis, this city was an entirely different beast, unlike anything he had ever experienced before. The towering obelisks and buildings threatened to blind him with their golden sheens, and there were more people wandering here and there than Nyr had ever seen in his life before.
But he did not have the time or luxury of freaking himself out. As much as he would have liked to stand around and gawk- Or maybe find a place to hide- He was here on a mission.
The Desert Rose was due a shipment of rare herbs from Dragon’s Cradle, sent down the coast to Zeinav by boat. But due to a recent influx in patients in the Oasis as the Desert Roses’ reputation grew, Sir Kvasir was simply too busy to come and pick up the shipment himself. They could have likely paid for them to be shipped to the Apothecary on a caravan, but there was no guarantee that they would make it back safely when not watched over by someone trained in the care of fragile plants.
So Nyr had volunteered to come, if only to take some of that stress off of poor Sir Kvasir’s shoulders. Sir Kvasir had been nervous about sending his apprentice alone, of course he was, but Nyr had promised he’d be fine on his own.
Sure, maybe he was lying about that. But Sir Kvasir never needed to know! As long as Nyr got the herbs safely and got back home to the Desert Rose, Sir Kvasir would never need to know just how stressful this experience really was for Nyr.
It was the perfect plan.
Except, well…
“Oh dear…”
Nyr bites his lip and chews on it, pensively looking down at the box at his feet. It was an unassuming thing, made of rough wood and slightly damp from its journey on the sea. Nyr wasn’t standing very far away from the ship the box had been unloaded from. He just…
He hadn’t known there were two of them. His arms were already aching with the strain of carrying one box on its own, though it was not particularly large. How was he meant to carry both of these back to the caravan on his own…?
“Ohhhh no.”

The Sultan's Port is always a busy place, no matter the hour of the day. Ships come in and out of the protected harbor continuously, bringing in people and supplies from all over Charon. The docks are a buzz of activity with sailors and deckhands rushing about to moor incoming ships, load and unload cargo, and get passengers disembarked. Due to how chaotic it can be, a good number of the Sultan's Corps patrol up and down the port, ensuring that nothing goes awry under their watch.
Zarius watches a patrol of guards go by as he leans against the corner of a building with his arms folded. The charcoal tiefling pays close attention to the crates being loaded up onto a particularly heavily guarded ship.
That was the target.
Stepping back into the shadows, two other figures stand at the ready by him. A catfolk named Snow and a half-elf named Eirynor wait patiently for further instructions.
"Alright, remember to leave the symbol somewhere the guards will have an easy time finding it. We need this to go off without a hitch."
The tiefling hands over three bottles to the pair, one with a swirling purple liquid inside, another with a green ooze, and the last with little balls of soot.[1,2,3] Eirynor takes one of the bottles while Snow takes the other two.
"We will meet back up later. Make sure to cover your tracks."
"Yes, sir." Snow takes the cork off of the purple potion and drinks it while Eirynor turns invisible. The two head off towards the ship as stealthily as they can.
Zarius watches for a moment then scans the docks for any other activity when he spots someone he recognizes. He leaves the cover of the alleyway and walks over with his hands tucked into his pockets as he approaches a distraught young man standing next to two sizeable crates.
"Excuse me. Nyr, right? What a surprise to see you so far from the Oasis."
After greeting the young tiefling, he glances around for Kvasir. It was odd to see the young man on his own. He was certain that the herbalist had taken a liking to Nyr and it was no secret that the healer had offered him an apprenticeship at the Desert Rose apothecary. At least, that's what he heard from his network of informants after the whole debacle with the angel woman.
Seeing that Kvasir wasn't around anywhere nearby, he looks back at the young tiefling with a curious head tilt. "Are you alone? Is everything alright?"

The sound of his name on someone else’s tongue is enough to send Nyr jolting into the air with an embarrassing little hop of his feet and a high-pitched shriek of alarm. His face is tinged a darker bluish-purple than usual as he finally turns and-
Oh, oh thank the Gods. He remembers to breathe again as he presses a hand on his chest over the heart frantically beating beneath skin and sinew and bone. He wasn’t being approached by a stranger who somehow knew his name and was probably here to kidnap him or something! No, luckily it was a face he recognized easily in a crowd.
Wait.
Well shit. Now he had to talk to someone.
Taking a deep breath, Nyr manages to give the older fellblood a bit of a shaky smile. It wasn’t any secret that he was easily startled, but embarrassment clings to the edges of his expression nonetheless.
“H-Hello Mister Zarius…! It’s, ah, it’s been awhile, hasn’t it…?” Wonderful job, Nyr. This is how you have conversations with people! By pointing out the obvious. But there was little time to curse his own social blunders, not when Mister Zarius was asking questions Nyr felt obligated to answer.
“Oh, um, yes, I’m here alone. I, uh. I’ve got. Important business as Sir Kvasir’s apprentice! L-Like picking up important herbs for him and… stuff.” There’s a nervous twitch to his fingers while he talks, resulting in him playing with the edges of the lightweight cloak he wears around his shoulders. Good for traveling in the desert and keeping the sun off his back. Also good for hiding nervous tics.
“I… Ah….” There’s a hesitance to his next few faltering words. Realistically, he was not okay at all. He was in an unfamiliar city with boxes he had no way to transport by himself and somehow he had to survive until the next day when he could join the caravan that would take him hom- Back to the Oasis and Sir Kvasir’s apothecary.
But what kind of weirdo would vomit all their anxieties onto an acquaintance on the street like that?! No, he simply couldn’t. The mere idea of doing such a thing was mortifying enough. Besides- The consequences were too dire to even consider. What if Mister Zarius talked to Sir Kvasir about it? They were friends after all, right? Then Sir Kvasir would hear about how utterly pathetic Nyr had been when out on his own and he’d never let Nyr do favors for him again! Or worse, he’d realize Nyr was a terrible apprentice to keep and kick him out of the Dessert Rose for good–
“I-I’m well, Mister Zarius….! Ahah… Hah.. And, um, and you…?”

By the gods, if gravity wasn't a thing this kid would have likely jumped to the moon. He does his best not to laugh at the young man's jumpiness especially when he notes the nervousness in his words and the flushness of his face.
"It has," he agrees.
When he visited the Desert Rose a week back, he was surprised that Nyr had not been present. Clearly, he's been working hard on his apprenticeship, but why Kvasir has the poor lad running around Zeinav City by himself is a bit of a mystery. Perhaps it's because Kvasir cannot trust that sparkly idiot Morrigan Moonweaver to be left alone in the apothecary for too long.
He smiles softly. "Kvasir is an excellent mentor. I am glad that you managed to work something out after things got off to a rocky start. Be sure to learn as much as you can from him."
His eyes drift past the young man's shoulder as he keeps one eye on the dock workers. With Eirynor invisible and Snow using a potion to move much more stealthily, he can't pick them out amongst the busy port. All the better. The less he hears the more it means this mission is going off without a hitch.
Looking back at Nyr, he keeps a friendly expression on his face and does what he can to keep his posture as open and non-threatening as possible. The poor kid seems fairly sensitive and could be set off by just about anything.
"I am well, thank you." He glances down towards the extra crate at Nyr's feet. Judging by the apprentice's statement of what he is doing here and the slight quiver in his arms as he holds one crate, Zarius can put together that Nyr probably could use an extra set of hands.
He gestures to the crate. "Can I assist you?"
Rather than waiting for the apprentice to answer, he goes ahead and picks up the second crate. He looks at Nyr and nods to the streets leading back into town. "Lead on. I assume you must have other means of transportation nearby for the long trek back to the Oasis."
While he would usually prefer to keep a close eye on his own business, using the young man as an alibi in case something goes wrong isn't a bad idea. Considering the last encounter he had with the Sultan, he's not too keen on having to explain himself should any suspicions be raised.
Walking along with Nyr and letting the young fellblood lead him away from the port, Zarius strikes up some casual conversation. Might as well give the kid some much-needed practice in socializing. "How have you been adjusting to the desert heat?"
