Where if not the Dusty Refuge was a place that would be open until dawn? A place of smoke and splendor, lose and gain, beauty and disgust. Where there was money to be lost (and won), there were people who wanted distracted. Whether by drink or the smoke of a hookah, or a pretty face that danced with shimmying hips. Sweat gleamed where her skin was bared, glitter shimmering all the brighter where it was dusted on her pale form. The red flare of her skirts were like blood when contrasted with the lack of pigment she had to bring it warmth, but it was all the more eye catching for the patrons who had just applauded her performance. She sidled past a waiter with a tray of drinks, nodding her head with a warm smile to anyone who tossed a compliment her way. A bold patron whistled as she passed, and Bliss laughed, giving him a little shake of her hips, but did not stop. She had already been paid for her time, passing entertainment for the gambling den. It was not an unusual gig for her when she passed through Zeinav City, whether it was a token tavern or the Dusty Refuge, though the Refuge usually paid better. Bliss made it to the bar, winking at a woman who sat there attempting to politely not stare. "Water, if you please, darling," she called to the bartender. "Appreciated." -- (Bliss's Dance Routine for the curious)

The Dusty Refuge was dark, smokey, crowded, and the kind of place that a thief loved. The woman dancing on stage was doing more to help make this evening profitable than what Sarris had hoped. When the men gawked and leered, Sarris picked pockets, lifted little items of value, and then moved.
Sarris did not need to steal, though she did need the practice. Her life of surviving on the street had changed long ago. She made enough working as a courier and spy that she could live comfortably. Her ship managed to make enough to pay the crew and give her a little extra. Still the girl was a thief.
Sarris moved up to the bar letting any attention that might be on her, shift the beautiful Bliss. Next to Bliss Sarris looked like a boy with long hair, though Sarris had delicate features.
"Red wine, please," Sarris said pleased with what she had collected as she slid up to the bar near Bliss.
A small fight starts as one of her pigeons reached for his coin purse to find that it was missing. His friend got the accusation in the form of a fist in the jaw and was being called a thief.
"Men," Sarris said.

A cool glass of water was set before her, a slice of oasis in the heat of the desert. She allowed the condensation to wet her hand before lifting to quench her thirst. The sweat beading her skin helped carry the chill from her throat to the rest of her body, still cooling from the performance she had given.
Bliss barely acknowledged her fellow patron beyond a flick of her ears as she drained half the glass. Behind them, raised voices preceded a punch. The bouncers would be by soon to toss both of them from the establishment, naturally. The dancer glanced at her slender companion, pale eyes catching her youthful features.
"Men," she agreed, chuckling smoothly. "And we know all about them, don't we, darling?"
She turned, resting with her back to the counter as she set her eyes to wander across the room. Men were often so much more easily riled than women, it was true. They were such good tools, but short term use only. They broke so quickly, after all, silly things. Women were much better. Gems to be polished into sharp, fine points and kept for as long as possible.
"Tell me, what fun have you been up to tonight?" Bliss inquired, tilting her head toward Sarris with a slow smile. "You look lucky."

To say that Sarris was not a bit envious of how Bliss could draw attention to herself as she walked and danced was an understatement. A girl likes to be noticed, even if it just means that she is going to give her admirer the cold shoulder.
Sarris chuckled a bit. There were things that she did not know about men, and she was in not in a rush to find out.
Sarris blushed as she said, "They tend to be a bit impulsive and do not always notice things."
Sarris watched Bliss and noticed how graceful she actually was. In Sarris' appraisal Bliss was more worldly than she was. Bliss also knew how to look seductive not like a stick bug with hips. "I am just enjoying the show and picking up some odds and ends on my travels," she said. It was polite code that she was pick pocketing. It would mean that she would need to cut Bliss in on the profits. But Bliss had been a great distraction. This crowd was big enough to make this a good evening if she played her cards right.
Pickpockets loved to work with a second person, one that distracted while the other worked. Drunk men and an attractive woman wiggling, made for easy picking.
"I like how gracefully you move," Sarris said. She meant it as a compliment, and she was being sincere. "How is your evening going?" Sarris asked. She wondered what it would be like to have men sending her gifts to her dressing room and trying to hit on her.
Like many young women she liked to romanize things. She did not take into account the attention of men you did not want to notice you.

Impulsive, indeed. Bliss laughed lightly, bringing up a hand to shield her fangs from view. It would do no good to remind people of the natural weapon most tieflings tended to have, regardless of how unthreatening she portrayed herself to be. "Too right, darling," Bliss agreed, winking at her starry eyed fan.
Picking up odds and ends. Oh ho? Bliss glanced over the slender young woman, red lips spreading into a sly smile that she shared with Sarris. "What a cute flatterer," she purred, leaning in. She curled her fingers beneath Sarris's chin, sliding them up until the half-elf's cheek was cradled in her palm. "Good at taking advantage too, aren't you? Clever thing."
Tonight, Sarris had no need to worry about catching a man's attention.
"Darling, my evening has become so very wonderful," Bliss murmured, as she granted the girl her undivided gaze. The young woman was quite typical of elf blooded people. Lean and pretty faced, ears ever so slightly pointed. What made Sarris special was she was not just this, but also self professed to be skilled in making people's pockets light, shall we say.
A versatile girl, able to be as lovely as she pleased with the right clothing and make up, but equally as able to be as average as possible and pass beneath the eyes of anyone who glanced at her. Not something Bliss was familiar with, but her own looks and body had been honed for different purposes than thievery and whatever other mischief her companion got up to.
"I think I like you," Bliss informed Sarris, withdrawing her hand with a smile. "What would you like, darling? You don't need to share a thing with me. You and I can have a much nicer relationship than materialistic gains."

Sarris had not had anyone lift her chin or touch her cheek like that since she was eight and her mother explained that she was dying. But Bliss' hand and motions were gently. Sarris knew that Bless was well practiced at this. But it did indicate some care.
Sarris' mind raced at the question of what she would like. "There are lots of things I would like," Sarris said softly then leaned back into the bar top. The bar was loud and she was glad for that.
"I want to know why some camels have two humps and some only one. I want to learn part of that scarf dance you did. I would like to have someone look at me and say, 'she is a witch.' To act or learn to tell a story that makes people want to listen. To be comfortable, to learn, and make people smile." There was more that she did not need to say. She wanted to be to be noticed, to be seen as valuable, to be desired... She wanted to be seen as sexy, like Kamille and some of the other women she knew. She wanted to be seen as smart like Serrafluer was, or as business savey as Veliky. She wanted to be beautiful and desired like Bliss was. She wanted to feel like she measured up. Like many young women, she had not gotten to the point of not comparing herself to others.
"I am still young, I have lots of wants," she said. Sarris was not surprised that she opened up like that. Bliss had a disarming way and probably heard more secrets that Sarris owned.
Sarris looked at Bliss and asked, "What would you like?"

Oh, to be that young and want it all. To know why the sun rose and set, to see the hearts of people, to follow a butterfly in a garden. It was a charmingly innocent state of mind, childlike in the fascination of the world and what happened within it. The desire to learn and to be was strong, like many of Sarris's age with a curiosity unslaked be the experiences life has brought them thus far. Or perhaps even stoked by those experienced.
"You certainly do have a great deal of wants," Bliss agreed, likewise leaning against the bar with a quiet smile. "As you should. Anyone who doesn't want something is either lying or a purposeless fool. And we are not fools, darling."
She hummed in thought, looking Sarris up and down critically. "You want to dance and to be a witch. I know more of one than the other, so I think right now I want to teach you what you're willing to learn. I've been bored lately." After all, she could never have too many toys to play with.
Bliss's tail curled. "You're slender, but I've seen dancers do what I do with the same type of body. You'll just have to swing your hips wider. Compensate with more hip accessories or specialize in dancing to different types of music. If you just want to learn a little bit about the 'scarf dance', then I can show you and you can copy, but it wouldn't please me to impart knowledge with no foundation to make it look the best you can."
Her pale eyes gleamed as she locked Sarris's eyes with her own. "I could teach you something about being called a witch too. Ah," Bliss sighed, crossing her arms beneath her generous bosom. "But trustworthy people are few and far between. Perhaps if we get to know each other a little more, I would feel comfortable teaching you a little more than dancing."
She tapped her glass as the bartender passed, indicating its emptiness. The bartender refilled the water as they passed by, pausing at Sarris. "Drink, miss?"

“Bored?” Sarris asked in a shocked tone. Bliss would have people following after her, constant attention, people giving her gifts. “I find it hard to believe,” she said.
“I can dance a bit,” Sarris said a bit coy. “I have been to balls and have danced with many of the vanguard knights,” she added. “Your dancing is different,” Sarris said.
The conversation about the witch label made her blush from ear to ear.
Sarris felt a bit like a spider being lured into the web. The hard part was she wanted to trust bliss. When the bar tender asked, she replied, “Strawberry wine if you have it, please?”
She placed a few coins on the bar top to pay for it.
As a glass was placed Sarris picked it up and followed bliss.
