Ray was no stranger to taking trinkets, though in his last line of work it had been coin purses and jewelry. Animal parts were more suited for real family, among criminals if you couldn't sell it to a fence it was worthless.
"Good to see you care for your family, it's a blessing and half... having one, that is." Gerhart's actions continued to warm Ray's heart.
Before Ray could finish lifting the wagon he saw Gerhart reaching in his pocket and finding the strange pumpkin figurine in the snow. Watching him with curiosity he awaited what help they'd get from a tiny pumpkin... As a cottage burst into existence from the thing Ray dropped the wagon as his head tilted to the side and eyes widened with surprise.
"Oh! I've gotta say a pumpkin house is the last thing I expected you to have in your pocket..." Ray blinked a few times, rubbing his forehead with his hand as he took in the little cottage that seemed almost too perfect for the situation.
After the shock left him he picked one of the merchants up gently in his arms and walked him inside the cottage placing him on a bed inside. The little house was just as cozy on the inside as it looked from outside, and the idea of weathering a storm inside it felt like something out of a fairy tail.
"I've never in my life seen such a thing... Where did you get a pocket house?" The novelty and magic of the house were humorous and whimsical to Ray. Seeing mage used for such a good purpose was reassuring, most simply made spells to kill and maim, he'd not seen a magic item meant solely to preserve and shelter life before.

"Full honesty....kinda forgot I had it until now." He laughed as he hooked his arms under one of the men and started to drag him inside. "My family has a habit of collecting and selling odd trinkets here and there. Since I travel a lot these days, they figured I could use something like this."
There was a wide grin on his face once they were both inside and the door was shut. Gerhart helped get both of the men into a bed before rummaging around in his backpack for a medical kit. Assumedly with Ray's help, he gets to bandaging any wounds and setting a broken leg. It wouldn't be perfect, but it was good enough to keep them together until a real doctor could see them.
He falls back into a seat with a huff once the two injured merchants are fine. A rough hand wipes the sweat from his brow, a small solace taken in that it was warm enough to sweat now.
"This should hold for a day....the real problem is how we will move the wagon, but we can think about that in the morning." Another smile is given to Ray as Gerhart happily stretches back in the chair with a content sigh.

As Ray helped Gerhart move the travelers into the small hut he was still in a state of awe. The little cabin was small but cozy beyond belief. No wonder Gerhart had taken on this job, he had a means of surviving whatever storm they found themselves in just sitting in his pocket. This would definitely be moving up the list of items Ray would love to acquire, the usefulness of it was endless.
"I'm glad I wasn't out here alone, I doubt I could have managed to keep them warm on my own." Ray took a seat and helped Gerhart with the injuries, adding his healing magic to the mix allowed them to make quick work of the remaining injuries.
"Your family sounds interesting, where are they right now?" Ray thought about paying them a visit, it sounded like they might be peddlers and arcane trinkets, like this hut ,could come in handy.
Looking over to the wounded men, now lying comfortably in two cots in a warm and safe place, it brought a smile to his face that they'd been able to save the two from both being eaten and freezing to death. The owl bear dead outside would be a story and a half for the townsfolk, another thought struck him as they waited. Owlbear meat.
"One moment, I think I've an idea as to how to feed us. Ever had Owlbear stew?" As he finished Ray strolled out the huts door.
Taking a small knife from his pocket Ray sliced a few pieces of meat from the bears flank, the corpse was still warm which made harvesting it much easier than it would be in a few hours. He took a few moments to snap loose some of the ribs of the beast, thinking of their use in creating a broth. Taking a peek into the cart he found a few vegetables and a pouch of spices, a small fee to levy on the men's goods he thought. Especially as they'd be the one's eating it.
Returning inside he smiled in triumph as he held a large cut of meat in one hand and a bundle of vegetables in the other. He then sat down near the fire and began to prepare a stew using the ingredients. Cooking a meal was a rare privilege when on the road, especially with such lavish ingredients. He hoped the meal would fortify the four of them for the journey back, returning some much needed strength to them. As Gerhart had mentioned, they'd need to somehow get a whole cart of goods back to town in the morning...

"Let's be fair, I don't think this would've gone well if either of us were alone." He grinned widely over to Ray. "Not exactly like I can patch people up like that." Gerhart gave a little stretch, letting Ray finish up healing before he moved to getting the cottage warmed up.
He knelt down in front of the fire, tossing some kindling and a few logs into it before sparking the fire. "They are around, travelers by nature so hard to tell exactly where they are at any given moment...Last I knew somewhere around Eclipse City I think." Small embers were stoked and encouraged into joining together to create a nice warm fire.
"You know it's odd, I've had owl stew, bear stew, but never owlbear stew." Another little laugh. While Ray collected meats and vegetables, Gerhart collected snow in a cauldron to start melting and boiling it to turn into water.
Gerhart sat back as things started going, knocking the snow from his boots and blowing into his hands to help warm them up just a little bit faster. The smell of cooking food filling the cabin certainly helped him relax a bit. He let out a deep and contented sigh, moments like these were certainly few and far between. Gerhart can't help but remember how he started adventuring....alone, armor he picked from people who no longer had a need for it and a pair of knives barely sharp enough to cut water. Certainly was a far cry from that now in a good way.
"So how are we gonna move that big cart? Think we can just pull it?"

Ray had been brainstorming ways to move the cart while cooking, and had only ever had the same idea. Just pull it. Though this was not ideal, he was strong but relied on Qil's celestial energy to fuel that strength. The cart could be pulled as long as Qil had enough fuel to give him, and he'd never tested his celestial friend's endurance in such a way...
"I was thinking as much, I'm no carpenter. If these fellows wake up by morning perhaps they'd be able to fix it. Otherwise... I say we're likely going to be taking turns lugging a wagon full of supplies, and two grown men, through deep snow." Ray's voice clearly communicated he was not looking forward to the escapade.
He relaxed in his chair as the stew boiled, stirring it occasionally and checking vegetables for tenderness as he thought about the situation further.
"Only other idea I've got is for one of us to make the trek back to the village and get help sent this way. Though, with the possibility of further creatures lurking in the snow, that seems like a recipe for disaster. Maybe we should stick with the simple recipe, strength of arm and simplicity of task."
Ray brought a spoon near his lips and smelled the stew before allowing it to fall from the spoon into his mouth. It wasn't the best he'd made, though of all the soups he'd eaten in a magical hut amid a blizzard it was possibly the best. Owl bear meat was less gamey than he'd imagined and far leaner, perhaps that explained why it was hunting in such awful conditions? He poured bowls for himself and Gerhart, handing his to him, before digging in to the meal.
When morning arrived he would at least have had a good meal and a comfy nights rest if he was destined to lug a wagon around.
