Cheers quickly faded as the crew got back to work securing what would be needed to rescue the fishermen. Zak had never seen so much rope. And Tatalia was right in there with them, her expertise evident. Zak moved in to help when suddenly a gust of wind caught the goblin by surprise and sent her skidding across the deck. Suddenly, Tatalia was gone, disappearing over the side.
Zak gasped. Damn the gods this storm, he thought, ironically cursing the very elemental forces that gave him his powers. Cantio’s yell brought him back to his senses, and he rushed to the railing. Not more than moments later, Cantio appeared at his side, and grabbed a rope.
"Zak, pull me back up, okay?"
And without another word, Cantio jumped into the icy depths after Tatalia. “Wha…” Zak squealed, peering over the railing. Relieved to see that Cantio was still alive and gripping the rope, Zak searched for signs of Tatalia, catching sight of her among the waves a few meters away, most likely out of Cantio’s line of vision though. “There she is,” he yelled, but his words were drowned out by the wind. Suddenly a beam of light emitted from Cantio’s hands, and Zak caught his breath in relief as the bard started swimming toward the goblin.
Zak turned to the dwarves around him. “Be ready,” he commanded. “I’m gonna need your help getting them up.”
Looking over the railing, Zak gathered his mana. No rituals or spells could aid him now, but magick coursed through his very being, and Zak trusted that it would help him have the strength to bring the heroes to safety. Both hands held firmly to the rope, and boots secured in the foothold, Zak waited.
“ZAK!”
“NOW! I'm pulling them up,” he yelled, and two of the dwarves ran to the rail, ready to grab the rope as it rose. Bracing himself, Zak pulled on the rope with all his might.
