The road to Darkveil is quite a dangerous one; between the bandits, the volcanos, the smoke, and the treacherous terrain? Yeah, it's often hard to find anyone traveling that way willingly; and goodness knows he would never walk the Ash Lands alone. But, by some slim chance, he lucked out. A small caravan of entertainers had been at the Dusty Refuge in Zeinav City the night he met a strange man in ebony; and, indeed, it turned out they were going where he was going! And, he is in fact, an entertainer, so they were all too happy to bring him along— back to his 'home town'.
He fit in quite well with the colourful crew of dancers, musicians, and artists at the casino; but now, he sits a splotch of crimson among their sleek, neutral satins. They say it's to avoid detection in the Ash Lands, which— is wise, actually— and also probably why they asked him to stay in the back of one of the horse-drawn wagons to avoid attention. He wonders, distantly, if he should invest in a more neutral 'off-stage' look; something more... natural... and boring.... and normal.
But then, where's the fun in that? He waves the thought away with a hand and breathes a soft sigh as he leans his head back against the wooden interior of the wagon. He hears the wheels clacking as they drag along the rough, rocky terrain; the vehicle rocks and sways with each step the horses take in the path between the dead, burnt pines of the Deadwood. So far, the entertainers seem to know all the best routes to avoid trouble; he's quite grateful, really, because he doesn't think his heart can take much more chaos— It's then that the wagon jolts, and Cantio knocks his head into the side of the interior as it tips to the side.
"Shoot!" a feminine voice hisses from the driver's seat; someone else calls back with a, "What happened?" as Cantio rubs his head from the impact with a mild grimace; he scoots himself away from the wall, and out the back of the wagon to investigate the source of the upset. He rounds the corner, still nursing his head, to witness the wagon's back wheel nestled quite firmly in a rather large, soft pit in the road.
"Is everything okay?" he asks. Up ahead, the other wagon has stopped— and two of the dancers he recalls from the casino, Evie and Avrian, a twin elven duo— are standing around the wheel, conversing amongst themselves on the best method to push the wagon from the pothole before they become sitting ducks for bandits.

It had been a few days since leaving home. The Ashlands, which had always felt like home to Blaze, was starting to get old. After hearing the tales his father spoke of on his journeys, Blaze was sure there was more to the world than just sitting around camp and traveling from one safe area to another. While the trip he had started out on was a simple one, getting to a city proved to be more difficult than he had thought.
Today, with the ever present dark skies, did not help in finding the right direction. What with having no map and no true directions, he was at a loss. So, Blaze did what Blaze does best, found something fun to follow. In this case, it was an ash moth. They are fairly common in the Ashlands, but that would not stop him from seeing what this little creature could show him.
As the moth fluttered and floated through the thick, soot filled air, it became more and more evident to Blaze that this moth had no idea where it was going. "You're just as bad as me..." Blaze muttered to himself as he continued to follow it. He wished that he had asked his mother for a map before he had left, but planning was not his strong suit. It was at this time that he did hear something he had not heard in a long time. The voices' of different people.
"People!" He said aloud. He knew he had to be careful, but his excitement was already growing. He had not met another person in such a long time. As he approached he could hear that they were in a small bit of distress. He thought that maybe he could lend a hand to them with the hope that they would know the area better than him. As he peaked over the ridge he saw the small caravan.
"Hello," he shouted "Is everything alright?" As he did this almost every eye in the caravan turned to look at him. He could tell that they were surprised as a few were scrambling around a cart. "Well, no time like the present" he thought to himself. Then he started to walk down to the caravan with the hope that, in some way, he would be able to help.

"Hello," a shout comes from nowhere, making Cantio jump mid-approach to the twin elves. "Is everything alright?" The twins spook; a few heads that had been peeking out the back of the first wagon duck back inside; and the driver of the stuck wagon scrambles to the other side of the cart from their seat in a flurry of limbs and mild terror. Cantio takes a pace back, looking out towards the source of the voice.
Everyone is a little unnerved, to say the least, when a stranger starts heading their way in the middle of the Ash Lands— a land very well known for its thieves and bandits. Avrian and Evie, at least, stay strong where they are near the pothole, but he can hear them whispering quietly amongst themselves as the stranger approaches. "A bandit?" "Maybe..." "Do you think there are others nearby?" "You think it's a distraction?" "Why else would he be out here? We're in the middle of the Deadwood!"
Cantio looks worriedly at them, then back to the stranger; against what would probably be his best interest, he puts on a smile, unfolding his fan as he strides out to meet him before he can reach the caravan. He hears a small hiss of, "Hey!" and "Cantio!" from behind him as he strolls forwards, but he ignores it to scope the situation with the stranger, himself; there's something about the way the stranger walks that doesn't seem like the calculated stroll of a bandit to him.
"Hello!" he greets, waving at the Tiefling before they can meet in the middle; he stops when he reaches the stranger, tail curling around one leg somewhat nervously. His face, however, doesn't show the same nerves. "Terribly sorry— have we disrupted you? We're just trying to pass through, and got a little..." He peeks behind Blaze, searching for evidence of movement or anyone else nearby. "... Stuck." He looks back at Blaze. "We didn't expect to see anyone out in the middle of the Deadwoods, actually— gave us a bit of a start. Are you... also, traveling? Live nearby?"
